• Lenovo Y460 Intel Driver Secondary Display Flickering

  This is a part of the massive dump of problems I'm encountering with my Lenovo Y460 and Ubuntu. Problem: ATI PowerXpress doesn't really work. Doesn't work as I have to use the open source driver with hacks. Turned off ATI card at boot Details on how I accomplished that: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10955831#post10955831 Installing the ATI drivers results in a failure of the intel drivers to work with Ubuntu Class (all animations have to turned off). Anyway to fix this problem to allow switchable graphics to work? The problem above has been fixed by FGLRX (Catalyst 11.6) is it compatible with kernel 2.6.39? However, there's another issue. If I connect my secondary monitor (VGA 17'') while using the Intel driver, I would not be able to use that screen as there's flickering and tearing, making the screen blurry and usable.   I am thinking of a methodology for rapid retrieval of code snippets. I imagine an HTML table with a setup like this: one two ... ten one oneTwo() oneTen() two twoOne() twoTen() ... ten tenOne() tenTwo() When a user clicks a function in this HTML table, a snippet of code is shown in another div tag or perhaps a popup window (I'm open to different solutions). I want to maintain only one PHP file named utitlities.php that contains a class called 'util'. This file & class will hold all the functions referenced in the above table (it is also used on various projects and is functional code). A key idea is that I do not want to update the HTML documentation everytime I write/update a new function in utilities.php. I should be able to click a function in the table and have PHP open the utilities file, parse out the apropriate function and display it in an HTML window. Questions: 1) I will be coding this in PHP and JavaScript but am wondering if similar scripts are available (for all or part) so I don't reinvent the wheel. 2) Quick & easy Ajax suggestions appreciated too (probably will use jquery, but am rusty). 3) Methodology for parsing out the functions from the utilities.php file (I'm not to good with regex).

  I have this problem wherein, I can not display the correct characters given by the character. How can I achieve this?

• 12.04 How to go back to command line only ubuntu

  I was attempting to install a command line only version of Ubuntu and followed the instructions here. I downloaded the alternate CD and went through the installation, but never got an "Install a command-line system." option. 12.04 is now up and running, though i don't need the desktop GUI. From what i have read i can set it back into text mode using grub, but what packages should i remove that i don't need any more?

• How can I export emacs documents in 13.04?

  When I try to export a document from org-mode in emacs, c-X, c-E now results in 'Can't find library org' whereas in 10.04 it opened the export dialog allowing me to produce html, pdf etc. from the source org file. Searching with Google, I found this bug for redhat which looks closely related. The trouble is I don't know how to get hold of the emacs-el package it talks about in ubuntu in order to try its workaround so I'm currently stuck.

• 12.10 Quantal display issues using nvidiaXineramaInfoOverride

  After updating to 12.10 today, my xorg.conf doesn't seem to be respected by Quantal. Not sure if this is a 'bug' or whether it's just an adjustment I have to make due to changes in the OS. When logging in, it seems Ubuntu is now recognizing only one 3840x1080 screen named "Matrox" and maximizing windows spans them across both screens. In 12.04, this configuration file successfully allowed me to override the data provided by my TripleHead2Go and maximize windows to a single monitor. Any ideas or where to start on trying to debug this? • T60 Screen/LCD gets black after some minutes with a highpitched sound rising and fading

  Just now my T60 screen got "black" (so no display). On my second monitor: no problems so the VGA output works. Symptom: Screen blanks / no display, but it works on the second monitor Steps to reproduce: - boot - wait (it does not matter what you do you do not have to login or anything) - (now the monitor of the laptop slowly begins to make a ssssssssHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWOEOEssssssss noise of about 10 seconds) - right after the sounds ends, the monitor gets black. Sometimes it seems to be the same each time. Software: Installed no new software before/after, running ZoneAlarm and antivirus. Other: It does not feel hot in any place, there don't seem to be running processes with strange behaviour. Warranty: Out of warranty What was I doing: Typing text on a website and doing some PHP coding in a text editor. What can I do here other than buy a new laptop? Does it sound familiar to known cases? Which does not seem the core issue but some electric issue so it seems replacing the LCD is not the thing to do here. If it is not the LCD that needs to be replaced (see other threads), which parts can I order to fix this? Is there any information which could lead me to identify the issue? I have read replacing the "inverter" AND the "backlightning" would that make sense? Update 2: I replaced the inverter with another inverter, but IO have the same problem. I DID notice that the inverter is the component that makes the sssssssssssssHHHHHHHHHH sound AND it becomes very hot in a few seconds. (So both the old and the test one) The problem is hmmm wat is then the thing that makes the inverter hot by (assumption) after which it shuts itself down. Is it either the input or the output? The output seems to me not, because the screen seems to function so it must be the electricity coming in. But what causes it to become so hot would it be the VGA card outputting some unusual high voltage seems unlikely? I am looking for the component to order / replace update 3: Great news. Ewendish gave me the hint to look in the BIOS. While I was in the BIOS I noticed that the screen did not switch off and there was not a high pitched sound. So I lowered some settings in the BIOS. I then noticed that with brightness turned to 0 (via FN End), it does not make a high pitched sound and does not turn off, with brightness turned up just three "stripes" it starts making the sound. So I could from now on work under lowest brightness modus or... see where the problem lies. So as stated below with either power management or display drivers / ATI Catalyst settings / Windows display settings. I'm trying to see where it lies, but I will google some first. Update 4: I wiped clean the Windows XP installation and installed Windows 7 on it. Unfortunately the problem remains: as soon as the brightness goes up the screen starts hissing. This means... back to original thought: it probably IS a hardware problem. Although ... again... if it is NOT the inverter, what is it? Could it be the backlightning component? I could try to switch that with a another T60... but this is quite tricky.

  Do you like to monitor your system but do not want a complicated app to do it with? If you love simplicity and easy configuration then join us as we look at Desktop Info. Desktop Info in Action Desktop Info comes in a zip file format so you will need to unzip the app, place it into an appropriate “Program Files Folder”, and create a shortcut. Do NOT delete the “Read Me File”…this will be extremely useful to you when you make changes to the “Configuration File”. Once you have everything set up you are ready to start Desktop Info up. This is the default layout and set of listings displayed when you start Desktop Info up for the first time. The font colors will be a mix of colors as seen here and the font size will perhaps be a bit small but those are very easy to change if desired. You can access the “Context Menu” directly over the “information area”…so no need to look for it in the “System Tray”. Notice that you can easily access that important “Read Me File” from here… The full contents of the configuration file (.ini file) are displayed here so that you can see exactly what kind of information can be displayed using the default listings. The first section is “Options”…you will most likely want to increase the font size while you are here. Then “Items”… If you are unhappy with any of the font colors in the “information area” this is where you can make the changes. You can turn information display items on or off here. And finally “Files, Registry, & Event Logs”. Here is our displayed information after a few tweaks in the configuration file. Very nice. Conclusion If you have been looking for a system information app that is simple and easy to set up then you should definitely give Desktop Info a try.   Is there a way to hide the Primefaces fileUpload progress bar and buttons in advanced mode and auto mode? • HAProxy not passing SSL traffic in TCP mode (unknown protocol)

  Hi, I've got a HAProxy LB solution setup and working correctly. All HTTP traffic on port 80 is being passed through succesfully. I'm now trying to get SSL traffic to work (in TCP mode and on just one server for now) however I keep getting the following error when testing via openssl: 26396:error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol:s23_clnt.c:588: However, when I try the same test (openssl s_client -connect) on the web servers IP address and hostname, everything seems to look OK. I can setup a hosts record locally and confirm that the browsers are picking up the SSL certificate succesfully for the domain.   With the SoapClient class on PHP5.x and working against a SOAP web service that has optional parameters in its methods, you won't have any problem if you use the non-wsdl mode. But, at least by default, with the wsdl mode, if you don't fill all the parameters you will get an error like: SOAP-ERROR: Encoding: object hasn't 'xxx' property Is there any way to avoid that error without working with the non-wsdl mode and without filling all the parameters?

• Debuging CUDA kernels called from .NET code in VS2008, emulation mode

  CUDA has an option to compile code in emulation mode, which is supported in the .rules file they provide. I have C# .NET 3.5 SP1 code that calls a native dll, using DllImport, the native dll is compiled via VS2008 using nvcc and its function is to transfer memory from and to CUDA and to invoke CUDA kernels. When the CUDA kernels are correct, everything runs fine, but when there is a bug, I can only step in to the code until the title of the kernels and see the parameters they receive. (I enabled debugging native code in the startup-project's debug options.) I have tried compiling with emulation mode, however I get the CUDA error "mixed device execution" when calling the CUDA memcopy host--device. I tried switching the alloc+dealloc+memcopy with their equivalent non-CUDA versions, but then the same error occurs when invoking the kernels. What did I do wrong in my attempt to using the debug-emulation mode? P.S. I tried this on Vista x64 SP1 + VS2008, with the same solution complied in both x86 and x64, neither worked in emulation mode, both worked in non-emulation mode.

  BACKGROUND Am writing a WinForm app that uses the SSRS Report Viewer control to render reports in local mode - there is no SSRS server involved at all I can successully create and execute reports in local mode What I want to do is add Parameters to the report THE PROBLEM When the Report Viewer control executes a report in local mode it does not provide any UI that allows the user to enter values for parameters defined in the report This is in contrast to to when the Report Viewer control is running a server report - parameters are shown. MY QUESTION Are there pre-built components or even sample code I can use that would provide a reasonble parameter user experience for this scenario (scenario = SSRS + Report Viewer Control + Local Mode)? Yes, I could write this UI code myself - what I am looking for is existing code to avoid having to implement this UI because I'd rather spend my time making the content of the report work well NOTES Switching to another reporting engine besides SSRS is not an option. Switching to server side reports is not an option.

• Windows 7 + Deep Freeze - I'm stuck in an endless reboot loop

  I have the following setup: Windows 7 Ultimate Deep Freeze I "thawed" my machine last night and performed a Windows Update. The update is having issues (it gets stuck at 32%, fails, and restarts my machine). When it reboots it attempts it again, and again, and again, etc. (Endless loop). I looked online and found some solutions, but none of them seem to be working: When I run Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/ Network, or Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt it attempts to revert the Windows Update changes. However, the problem is with Deep Freeze on (and now in "Frozen" mode) the reverted changes don't stay, and I'm back into the loop of death. Oh, and side note: "Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt" does not actually take me to a command prompt window? Perhaps because it is attempting to complete the Windows Update changes first? I have tried to select the option to NOT restart when an windows error occurs, but it still does. I tried the remainder of all the other options in the F8 screen. The only other option left is to find my Windows 7 Media Disc (I can't find it right now) and use it to repair windows (because for some reason the repair option does not show up in the F8 screen). Is there a way to disable Deep Freeze from loading? When I selected "Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt" I noticed that it loads the DpFrz.sys file. I know that when I'm in the Windows Boot Manager if I press F10 instead of F8 (while highlighting Windows 7) it takes me to an "Edit Boot Options" screen: Edit Windows boot options for: Windows 7 Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe Partition: 2 Hard Disk: 8e90e329 [ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN (I CAN EDIT THIS LINE) ] Update: I found my Windows 7 Media Disk and it did not help out. The laptop had the "System Restore" as a partition on the HDD. I later received (in the mail) a Windows 7 Upgrade Disc from Sony to upgrade my system from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate. I placed the disc into the DVD drive and it does not come up as a "bootable" disc. I'm going to try to find an alternative disc to see if I can get into Command Prompt. Update 2: I got a Windows Repair disc and got into a command prompt window. I got into the registry and disabled Deep Freeze. Also: I renamed the Pending.xml file to Pending.old I cleared out the Windows Temp directory I still am stuck in the loop (though, it isn't an issue with DeepFreeze anymore because I can make changes to the hard drive and they persist). Not sure what to do at this point? Update 3: I ran the repair option and it couldn't repair, but it did point me to something. It says the error was due to a driver that was failing. I have a feeling it is my UPEK Fingerprint scanner.

• Windows Media Player - Display JPEG cover art for FLAC files

  I got WMP 12 (on Windows 7 RC1) to play FLAC files by installing the Ogg Vorbis/FLAC, Direct Show filters, but WMP does not display the embedded cover artwork. After experimenting I found that it will display the cover art if it is embedded in PNG format, but up to now I've used JPEG for all my FLAC files. Rather than re-tagging all my files, does anyone know a way to get WMP 12 to display JPEG embedded cover art?

• VM can’t connect to outside in bridged mode

  Hi Guys, I am not able to ping any machine(not even the host) from Guest VM in bridged mode. But I got an IP which is on the same subnet as host. I can ping my guest VM from the host and can use ssh to connect to the guest. I am using Vmware workstation 6.5. Guest VM is a centos VM and host is windows xp. Every thing works fine in NAT mode. Any clues as to what could be happening. I tried disabling all the firewalls I have. My virtual network editor shows that my ethernet adapter(the one my host uses) is used for bridging. It is connected. I don't understand how I can get an IP address from DHCP server. I can't ping any of the DNS servers in generated /etc/resolv.conf which are the same as that of my host

• Windows 7 does not recognise second display output

  I've got a PC with dual BenQ G2222HDL monitors and an ATI Radeon HD 4650 video card. I've been running both monitors at 1920x1080 for some months now but last week the second monitor switched to a lower resolution and won't let me go back to 1920x1080. If I right click the Desktop and choose Screen Resolution from the menu, I get two items in the Display: drop down list BenQ G2222HDL D-SUB Display device on: VGA In the past 2 was always the same as 1. If I click Detect a third item appears Available display output on: ATI Radeon HD 4650 but if I use the Multiple displays: drop down list to use it says "No display detected" and then lets me choose from either "Connect anyway on S-Video" or "Connect anyway on Component", neither of which help. It seems like Windows 7 recognises the card is dual-head, and knows I have got two monitors, but can't link it all together. I have checked and all my drivers are up-to-date. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the second monitor working properly again?

• Intellij + GWT 2: Development Mode ignores changes to static content

  The new Development Mode in GWT 2 is awesome, but unfortunately as launched from Intellij IDEA 9, it does not seem to notice changes made to static files such as html, css, etc. It immediately see changes in *.java files, but not the static ones. If I make a change in a static file I need to quite the Development Mode tool and re-launch it. This is painfully slow, and negates much of the point of using dev mode in the first place I assume this is some artifact resulting from the way the Intellij runner launches it- it creates an out/artifacts/project_war_exploded directory with the static content and class files. How can I get Intellij Dev Mode tool to follow changes made to the original static source files?
