  • How to parse an argument without a name with Ruby's optparse

    - by Leonid Shevtsov
I need to parse a command line like script.rb <mandatory filename> [options] with optparse. Sure I can write some custom code to handle the filename, then pass ARGV to optparse, but maybe there's a simpler way to do it? EDIT: there's another hacky way to parse such a command line, and that is pass '--mandatory-filename ' + ARGV to optparse, then handle the --mandatory-filename option.

  • Must I Install a Gem to Unpack It?

    - by yar
I wrote up some instructions for freezing a non-native gem in a Rails app today: install the gem sudo gem install fastercsv put the reference in the environment.rb (I think this is only necessary to do unpack with no GEM specified) config.gem "fastercsv" unpack the gem rake gems:unpack GEM=fastercsv uninstall the gem sudo gem uninstall fastercsv I know this must be the long way around: how can I unpack the gem without installing it first? Also: What's the difference between rake gems:unpack GEM=fastercsv and gem unpack fastercsv?

  • Cocoa/MacRuby: How to write a toolbar which accepts custom items?

    - by Joseph Melettukunnel
I'm doing my first steps in MacRuby. Does anyone know how I can add a custom Toolbar to my Cocoa/MacRuby application, which will accept "regular" items for e.g. switching the view (see http://www.stevestreeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/SelectableToolbarDemo001.png). I've read some tutorials and I guess I have to create a custom delegate for the Toolbar and then connect it via the Outlets window, but how does the myCustomDelegate.rb have to look like? Thanks a lot! Cheers

  • How to read a file byte by byte in Python?

    - by zaplec
Hi, I'm trying to read a file byte by byte, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm trying to do it like that: file = open(filename, 'rb') while 1: byte = file.read(8) # Do something... So does that make the variable byte to contain 8 next bits at the beginning of every loop? It doesn't matter what those bytes really are. The only thing that matters is that I need to read a file in 8-bit stacks.

  • How to make emacs stay in the current directory

    - by Mad Wombat
When I start working on a project in emacs, I use M-x cd to get into the project root directory. But every time I use C-x C-f to open a file in one of the subdirectories (like app/model/Store.rb) emacs changes current directory to that of the file. Is there a way to make emacs stay at the root?

  • Where is asset_host rails 3?

    - by tig
What happened to asset_host in rails 3? Earlier I can put following code into development.rb and get all assets not present on development: ActionController::Base.asset_host = proc do |source, request| unless File.exist?(File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'public', source.sub(/\?\d+$/, ''))) 'http://example.com' end end But in rails 3 there is no such method and google does not help me.

I have installed the pg module with help of gem install pg Which returned Successfully installed pg-0.8.0-x86-mswin32-60 When a .rb-file looks like this require 'rubygems' require 'pg' I get an LoadError (exception 126) which tells me that it can't find the module C:/Ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/pg-0.8.0-x86-mswin32-60/lib/pg.so. • Error message when running a Sinatra application on Windows Vista.

    - by Adam Siddhi
I was following a video tutorial by Adam Keys about how to make a URL shortener app in Sinatra. The code that is giving me problems is located here http://pastie.org/958644 So when I ran it I got this error: shortener.rb:12: syntax error, unexpected $undefined, expecting $end @@ home I typed it exactly as Adam said but this keeps happening. What could the issue be? By the way, I am running ruby 1.9.1p243 (2009-07-16 revision 24175) [i386-mingw32] on Windows Vista. Thanks, Adam

  • Where to put files that will be read in a Rails app?

    - by Guilherme
I'm developing a Rails application and within that application I developed a Rake task that will read entries from a file and store them into the DB. Producing the code was no problem, but I'd like to know, where do I place the file that is read? Is there a convention for that, if yes, what is it? I know I could have used the seed.rb file but is it ok, by the standards, to load and read a file from there? Thanks in advance!

  • Cannot execute "LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE" Mysql query in Rails after a connection reconnection

    - by Ngan
On Rails 2.3.8 (but I think Rails 3 might have this issue as well, not sure): I get an error when trying to execute a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE query after reconnecting to a database. I have a process that parses a file that can potentially take a bit of time. During the parsing, Mysql closes the connection due to timeout. This is fine, I do a ActiveRecord::Base.verify_active_connections! and I get the connection back (I do this in several places through my app). However, running a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE statement, I get this error: Mysql::Error: The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version It's not a permission issue, I know that for sure. Check out my test in console: ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute("LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/tmp/test.infile' INTO TABLE users") [Sat Jan 08 00:09:29 2011] (9990) SQL (1.7ms) LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/tmp/test.infile' INTO TABLE users => nil > ActiveRecord::Base.connection.disconnect! => #<Mysql:0x104c6f890> > ActiveRecord::Base.verify_active_connections! [Sat Jan 08 00:09:58 2011] (9990) SQL (0.2ms) SET SQL_AUTO_IS_NULL=0 => {...connection stuff...} > ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute("LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/tmp/test.infile' INTO TABLE users") [Sat Jan 08 00:10:00 2011] (9990) SQL (0.0ms) Mysql::Error: The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version: LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/tmp/test.infile' INTO TABLE users ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: Mysql::Error: The used command is not allowed with this MySQL version: LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/tmp/test.infile' INTO TABLE users from ~/gems/activerecord-2.3.8/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract_adapter.rb:221:in `log' from ~/gems/activerecord-2.3.8/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:323:in `execute' from (irb):6 I am able to do other queries like SELECT and whatnot, and I will get the correct result. It's just this one that giving me the error. I even tested this with a fresh rails app. You'll notice that I am able to do the exact same query before the disconnect. Thanks for the help!

  • Custom dynamic error pages in Ruby on Rails not working

    - by PlanetMaster
    Hi, I'm trying to implement custom dynamic error pages following this post: http://www.perfectline.co.uk/blog/custom-dynamic-error-pages-in-ruby-on-rails I did exactly what the blog post says. I included config.action_controller.consider_all_requests_local = false in my environment.rb. But is not working. My browser shows: Routing Error No route matches "/555" with {:method=>:get} So, it looks like the rescues are not fired. I get the following in my log file: ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/555" with {:method=>:get}): Rendering rescues/layout (not_found) Is there some routing interfering with the code? I'm not sure what to look for. I'm running rails 2.3.5. Here is the routes.rb file: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| # routing van property-url map.connect 'buy/:property_type_plural/:province/:city/:address/:house_number', :controller => 'properties' , :action => 'show', :id => 'whatever' map.myimmonatie 'myimmonatie' , :controller => 'myimmonatie/properties', :action => 'index' map.login "login", :controller => "user_sessions", :action => "create", :conditions => {:method => :post} map.login "login", :controller => "user_sessions", :action => "new" map.logout "logout", :controller => "user_sessions", :action => "destroy" map.buy "buy", :controller => 'buy' map.sell "sell", :controller => 'sell' map.home "home", :controller => 'home' map.disclaimer "disclaimer", :controller => 'disclaimer' map.sign_up "sign_up", :controller => 'users', :action => :new map.contact "contact", :controller => 'contact' map.resources :user_sessions map.resources :contact map.resources :password_resets map.resources :messages map.resources :users, :only => [:index,:new,:create,:activate,:edit,:profile,:password] map.resources :images map.resources :activation , :only => [:new,:resend] map.resources :email map.resources :properties, :except => [:index,:destroy] map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :users admin.resources :properties admin.resources :order_items, :as => :orders admin.resources :blog_posts, :as => :blog end map.connect 'myimmonatie/:action' , :controller => 'users', :id => 'current', :requirements => {:action => /(profile)|(password)|(email)/} map.namespace :myimmonatie do |myimmonatie| myimmonatie.resources :messages, :controller => 'messages' myimmonatie.resources :password, :as => "password", :controller => 'users', :action => 'password' myimmonatie.resources :properties , :controller => 'properties' myimmonatie.resources :orders , :only => [:index,:show,:create,:new] end map.root :controller => "home" map.connect ':controller/:action' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' end ActionController::Routing::Translator.translate_from_file('config','i18n-routes.yml')

  • What quality, parser-generator options exist for ruby?

    - by cartoonfox
What open source (preferably gem-based) parser-generator options do I have in Ruby? I've used (flex&bison)|(lex&yacc) from C in the past, and I'm comfortable with BNF-style specifications. I've heard of treetop, but it looks a bit alien and verbose compared to yacc... Purpose: I want to convert my text markup language to a BNF and generate the parsing code. I think it's a better strategy than my first-order solution: http://github.com/dafydd/semantictext/blob/master/lib/semantictext/rich_text_parser.rb

  • CodeIgniter, Unit Testing, and Continuous Integration

    - by blork
As part of a University project, my team and I have to set up automated unit testing with CruiseControl.rb. We chose to use CodeIgniter for the project, and are having some problems getting everything working together. Does anyone have experience setting up such a configuration? Some of the unit testing frameworks we've tried are: PHPUnit SimpleTest Toast ...but we've had no success with any of them.

  • Code golf - hex to (raw) binary conversion

    - by Alnitak
In response to this question asking about hex to (raw) binary conversion, a comment suggested that it could be solved in "5-10 lines of C, or any other language." I'm sure that for (some) scripting languages that could be achieved, and would like to see how. Can we prove that comment true, for C, too? NB: this doesn't mean hex to ASCII binary - specifically the output should be a raw octet stream corresponding to the input ASCII hex. Also, the input parser should skip/ignore white space. edit (by Brian Campbell) May I propose the following rules, for consistency? Feel free to edit or delete these if you don't think these are helpful, but I think that since there has been some discussion of how certain cases should work, some clarification would be helpful. The program must read from stdin and write to stdout (we could also allow reading from and writing to files passed in on the command line, but I can't imagine that would be shorter in any language than stdin and stdout) The program must use only packages included with your base, standard language distribution. In the case of C/C++, this means their respective standard libraries, and not POSIX. The program must compile or run without any special options passed to the compiler or interpreter (so, 'gcc myprog.c' or 'python myprog.py' or 'ruby myprog.rb' are OK, while 'ruby -rscanf myprog.rb' is not allowed; requiring/importing modules counts against your character count). The program should read integer bytes represented by pairs of adjacent hexadecimal digits (upper, lower, or mixed case), optionally separated by whitespace, and write the corresponding bytes to output. Each pair of hexadecimal digits is written with most significant nibble first. The behavior of the program on invalid input (characters besides [a-fA-F \t\r\n], spaces separating the two characters in an individual byte, an odd number of hex digits in the input) is undefined; any behavior (other than actively damaging the user's computer or something) on bad input is acceptable (throwing an error, stopping output, ignoring bad characters, treating a single character as the value of one byte, are all OK) The program may write no additional bytes to output. Code is scored by fewest total bytes in the source file. (Or, if we wanted to be more true to the original challenge, the score would be based on lowest number of lines of code; I would impose an 80 character limit per line in that case, since otherwise you'd get a bunch of ties for 1 line).

  • Creating a structure from bytes with ctypes and IronPython

    - by Adal
I have the following CPython code which I now try to run in IronPython: import ctypes class BarHeader(ctypes.Structure): _fields_ = [ ("id", ctypes.c_char * 4), ("version", ctypes.c_uint32)] bar_file = open("data.bar", "rb") header_raw = bar_file.read(ctypes.sizeof(BarHeader)) header = BarHeader.from_buffer_copy(header_raw) The last line raises this exception: TypeError: expected array, got str I tried BarHeader.from_buffer_copy(bytes(header_raw)) instead of the above, but then the exception message changes to TypeError: expected array, got bytes. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

  • Rails 2.3.2: Accessing Model Specific Data in Another Model

    - by Gimli
I'm using Rails 2.3.2 and using Paperclip to upload photos. I'm also using a slightly customized subdomain_accounts.rb to set some account-specific variables. My question is this: How can I set the bucket used in Paperclip to be dependent on the current account? Since this looks to be a model attribute set up early on, how can I override it later? Thanks.

  • Interaction between C++ and Rails applications

    - by FancyDancy
I have two applications: c++ service and a RoR web server (they are both running at same VPS) I need to "send" some variables (and then do something with them) from each other. For exaple, i'm looking for something like this: // my C++ sample void SendMessage(string message) { SendTo("127.0.0.1", message); } void GetMessage(string message) { if (message == "stop") SendMessage("success"); } # Ruby sample # application_controller.rb def stop @m = Messager.new @m.send("stop") end I have never used it before, and i even don't know which technology should i search and learn.
