• Unable to fix broken packages with sudo apt-get install -f

  Here's my result, of sudo apt-get install -f. i have Ran it twice and got negative result. I believe there is an error at "error in Version string '0:3.6.1-dates for language English Translation data updates for all supported packages for: English" This same statement "error in Version string, caused me three days of attempting to download version 12.04. There is a bug report concerning the quoted text as well. Is there anyway to download the version without the language packs, why would I corrupt version 11.10? Also, when attempting to download Synaptic using sudo apt-get install synaptic, I get the same error message. Again I point out the initial download problems and the same error message receipt.   I'm trying to print extended code page 850 characters using ZPL II to a Zebra S4M. Whenever one of the extended characters I.E. ASCII value 127 is used I get a box of varying shades of grey instead of the actual value. I'm trying to print ± and ° (ALT+0177 and ALT+0176). I suspect its the RawPrinterHelper I am trying to use (as downloaded from MS, and another from CodeProject) however I cant see where the character codes are going wrong. Weirdly, printing direct from Notepad renders the correct characters, which leads me to believe it is a problem with the raw printer helper class. I am not tied to using the Raw Printer Helper class so if there is a better way of doing it, I am more than happy to see them. • Problem retrieving Hostaddress from Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort

  I'm running into an odd issue retrieving printer port addresses. When I get all the entries in Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort, the HostAddress field (which should have the IP address) is usually blank/null, only the port name has a value. To make it a bit stranger, if a particular port is not in use by any printer, THEN the HostAddress will have the the proper value. • How to add texture to fill colors in ggplot2?

  I'm currently using scale_brewer for fill and these look beautiful in color (on screen and via color printer) but print relatively uniformly as greys when using a black and white printer. I searched the online ggplot2 documentation but didn't see anything about adding textures to fill colors. Is there an official ggplot2 way to do this or does anyone have a hack that they use? By textures I mean things like diagonal bars, reverse diagonal bars, dot patterns, etc that would differentiate fill colors when printed in black and white. Thanks for thoughts! Robert

• Validating a Postscript without trying to print it?

  Saving data to Postscript in my app results in a Postscript file which I can view without issues in GhostView, but when I try to print it, the printer isn't able to print it because it seems to be invalid. Is there a way to validate / find errors in Postscript files without actually sending it to a printer? Preferred would be some kind of Java API/library, but a program which does the same would be fine as well. Edit #1 : no I don't know why it's invalid, nor even necessarily if it's invalid, but would like to be able to validate it outside of ghostview, or figure out what's going on when it can't print. Answer : Well using the ps2ps trick I was able to see the output that Postscript does and there check the difference. The difference was that I am not allowed to have a decimal number for the width or height of images in the Postscript, but rather only integers. So I still didn't find a way to validate, but this way was good enough for my problem. Thanks.

  I have a custom routing application that takes information for a route from google maps. It then creates a Google Visualizations DataTable to hold all the steps in the route. My current problem is that in order to reduce overflow for very large routes, I have enabled paging in the options of the DataTable. This leads to a not so printer friendly version because only the portion of the data that is shown in the table will be printed. The other portions of the table are loaded dynamically by the API when you click prev and next. Is there a not so hard way to get the DataTable to be printer friendly when it comes time without sacrificing the ability to have paging enabled?

  We're developing a browser-based warehouse app that needs to print labels and invoices regularly. We want to be able to print to the local printer without going the the usual browser print dialogs. Is this possible? Possibly using a greasemonkey userscript? We don't want to have to setup a whole CUPS printer network and deal with all that, but warehouse pickers having to click through a print dialog 1000 times a day isn't an option. We're printing PDFs, not sure if that matters. If we could do this another way using HTML5 or something else I'm open to course changes or other ideas here.

  I'm writing an application which utilises tables which can be printed if the user so desires and I wish to print a JTable filled with data, except I haven't been able to find an option to remove the formatting; the printed tables looks like it does in the GUI (based on the system theme) which is making the table less readable and using excess ink. I wish to print the same data with clear formatting. Is there a way to do this straight from a JTable or is my best option simply to print to a file and have the use printer from there. Currently it functions through a viewer which gives the user some options for printing, and then it goes to the system's printer.

  I have a complex widget with tons of different subwidgets, e.g. subclasses of QLabel. I want to print this widget, but obviously I do not want to print the background, I want to print with differing text colors or have the style of frames slightly modified. As I do not really want to iterate through all subwidgets with a special "print" function, which I would need to attach to all widgets (how to add "print" to a QLabel?), I would like to use paintEvent. If I have a hierarchy MyWidget - derived from - some QWidget, I would like to insert a sublayer MyWidget - MyPrintWidget - some QWidget, where myPrintWidget::paintEvent would check, if the current print is going to the screen (thus call QWidget::paintEvent), else if we are printing to the printer, call some function MyPrintWidget::drawWidget instead. Is this the right way to print-enable a widget? How can I figure out in paintEvent, that I'm printing to a printer instead of the screen? Is there a good example of printing complex widgets?

• Creating a Non-Databound Report in Winforms

  I am using Visual Studio 2008 and all the components that come with it as well as Infragisitics for Winforms. I need to design a label that will print to a label printer. None of the controls are databound and will most likely be set in code eg/Label.Text = "My Heading"; as there will be minimal information on the label. One piece of information is a barcode so I need the functionality to do that, I assume I can just set the font of the label to barcode and it will do its thing. Can I just add a Crystal Report to a form design it, set the label text properties in code, tell it what printer to print to and then call report.Print(); I've had a quick go and seems not as easy as I thought. I use various operations to find data on the devices I discover, but want to distinguish the network devices from computers. And I'm wondering if anyone knows how I could do this? I looked a bit at SNMP, and tried connecting to my network printer, router and modem. But I seem to only be able to connect to the printer, neither the router or modem responds.   I'm maintaining this Swing app that has a "print" option. Users need to be kept from interacting in any way with the underlying file system, but the print dialog offers "print to file" as one printer, and that of course allows selecting a directory and file from the file system. Is there a painless way to override/modify the print dialog to hide the "to file" printer from this dialog? I understand the API will let me do this piecemeal but I'd rather not have to re-create most of the dialog GUI and functionality to do this.

  I intend to write an online shopping program using PHP. When the buyer completes an order I want to print the receipt to his/her printer using Google Cloud Print. For that I will need the buyer to shared his/her printer with my Google account. My questions are: 1. Is there an upper bound for the number of printers a Google account is allowed to print to? 2. • Printing python tkinter output

  I am trying to print the contents of a python tkinter canvas. I have tried using the postscript method of canvas to create a postscript file, but I get a blank page. I know this is because I have embedded widgets, and these do not get rendered by the postscript method. Before I rewrite my program to create a more printer-friendly layout, can someone suggest a way to approach this problem? All of the programming books I have ever read approach the problem of sending output to a printer with a bit of hand-waving, something along the lines of: "It's a difficult problem that depends on interacting with the operating system." I also have a hard time finding resources about this because of all the pages related to printing to the screen. I am using Python 2.6, on Ubuntu 9.04.

• Forward traffic between two VLANs.

  I have a small network with two VLANs. One is our internal network for basic file sharing, etc and the other is a public wifi network for our customers. The internal network is configured as 192.168.1.x and the public wifi is 192.168.11.x. We have one printer at 192.168.1.50. I would like to be able to have that printer available to our customer at 192.168.11.50. I suspect it can be done with iptables, but I'm brand new to it and I just can seem to work out the syntax. Can anyone offer any help? Oh, this is all running on a wrt54g router running Tomato.

  Howdy, I need to be able to print from my wpf application. I am just trying to print a transaction receipt. I have found that using PrintDialog pDialog = new PrintDialog(); pDialog.PrintVisual(new Receipt("transaction name","my store"), "documentTitle"); Does the trick very nicely. "Receipt() is a usercontrol that renders out the transaction details. How are you meant to do this? is this the correct way? what do I do if I dont know the printer that is going to be used? should I make the usercontrol only as wide as a thermal receipt printer? Any suggestions would be great!

• C# Different class objects in one list

  I have looked around some now to find a solution to this problem. I found several ways that could solve it but to be honest I didn't realize which of the ways that would be considered the "right" C# or OOP way of solving it. My goal is not only to solve the problems but also to develop a good set of code standards and I'm fairly sure there's a standard way to handle this problem. Let's say I have 2 types of printer hardwares with their respective classes and ways of communicating: PrinterType1, PrinterType2. I would also like to be able to later on add another type if neccessary. One step up in abstraction those have much in common. It should be possible to send a string to each one of them as an example. They both have variables in common and variables unique to each class. (One for instance communicates via COM-port and has such an object, while the other one communicates via TCP and has such an object). I would however like to just implement a List of all those printers and be able to go through the list and perform things as "Send(string message)" on all Printers regardless of type. I would also like to access variables like "PrinterList[0].Name" that are the same for both objects, however I would also at some places like to access data that is specific to the object itself (For instance in the settings window of the application where the COM-port name is set for one object and the IP/port number for another). So, in short something like: In common: Name Send() Specific to PrinterType1: Port Specific to PrinterType2: IP And I wish to, for instance, do Send() on all objects regardless of type and the number of objects present. I've read about polymorphism, Generics, interfaces and such, but I would like to know how this, in my eyes basic, problem typically would be dealt with in C# (and/or OOP in general). I actually did try to make a base class, but it didn't quite seem right to me. For instance I have no use of a "string Send(string Message)" function in the base class itself. So why would I define one there that needs to be overridden in the derived classes when I would never use the function in the base class ever in the first place? I'm really thankful for any answers. People around here seem very knowledgeable and this place has provided me with many solutions earlier. Now I finally have an account to answer and vote with too. EDIT: To additionally explain, I would also like to be able to access the objects of the actual printertype. For instance the Port variable in PrinterType1 which is a SerialPort object. I would like to access it like: PrinterList[0].Port.Open() and have access to the full range of functionality of the underlaying port. At the same time I would like to call generic functions that work in the same way for the different objects (but with different implementations): foreach (printer in Printers) printer.Send(message)
