• Resealing windows XP stops PXE working

  I'm trying to capture a drive image of a windows xp pro machine. I've gone through the steps and resealed the machine. When i try and network boot the PXE instantly gives the message "PXE-MOF" and ends. I have managed to get network boot to work on this machine whenever XP is not resealed. I have tried Multiple times to get PXE to work after resealing windows, but with no luck. As soon as i unseal it, PXE works every time. I know PXE is supposed to work independent of what's on the hard drive. Is there any way that resealing windows could cause PXE to stop working.

• ubuntu ppa's and apt precedence

  I'm trying to get the latest mplayer installed with vdpau support. Haven't had any luck so far. I found a PPA that says it works and I want to install it. I added the PPA to my apt.sources and did an update. I just wanted to know, how do I know that I'm now installing the mplayer package from the PPA, and not Ubuntu's standard repositories? From what I see I just install the same package using apt-get install mplayer. How do I know which mplayer I'm getting? Where do I specify what takes precedence?

• Formatted USB flash drive with Disk Utility on Mac and now it is not recognized on any Mac or Windows machine

  I have formatted Canyon CN-MP4A USB flash drive with Disk Utility on Mac and now it is not recognized on any Mac or Windows machine. I have formatted with Disk Utility > drive > Erease > Format > MS-DOS (FAT). Now when I plug it in any Mac or Windows machine, nothing happens. Like nothing is plugged in. It has a screen, and I was able to format it directly from the device before, but now when I turn it on, welcome screen appears, but nothing else. I can not get to the menu. Is there a way I can format it? I am looking for the answer on the internet, but no luck so far.

  Hi I will be setting up a linux webserver to host WordPress on. The problem is that although I know how to do it, I don't know how to properly do it. So I'm now looking for semi-advanced tutorials that are complete and secure above anything else. I don't really mind trying a new distro, but I prefer ubuntu/debian. I read this post: Any good resources for setting up a webserver in Linux ? But these are very limited. So far not a lot of luck finding good guides and howtos. This should probably be a community wiki but I can't seem to transform it myself. Thanks

• left shift "stuck " on Windows 7

  I'm having a hard time with a "stuck" left shift key. my sister complained she is getting symbols instead of numbers using her netbook. after some time I fired up the on screen keyboard (winr+r"osk") and to my surprise, the left shift key was in some kind of toggle mode. since then I'm trying to inject registry keys to disable accessibility futures like stickykeys etc. to no avail. tough luck all http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/Windows-vista/disable-the-irritating-sticky-filter-keys-popup-dialogs/ check box are disabled What's going on? • Is it possible to make the Numpad 5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Num Lock is on?

  I hope someone can help me out with this; I use a laptop and I like to play games a lot that are arrow key dependent. So after a while of using my laptop, I accidentally broke the Down Arrow key. So I decided to try and find out how to make the Numpad5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Numlock is on. I was trying to use AutoHotkey, but so far I've had no luck. Can anyone help me out with this? So far the scripts I used that didn't work were Numpad5::NumpadDown or Numpad5::Down. Am I doing something wrong here?

  Hi, I have successfully configured Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 all 64 bit, however when I tried to access this particular SQL Server 2008 DB instance from another SQL Server 2008 SSMS in another Windows Server 2008 it failed ? what I did is to disabled the IPv6 IP address using the regedit but still the problem hasn't been fixed even after restart ? I have enabled the named piped as well but still no luck ? any help please ? Here's the error message: " A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.   Hi, everyone I have a huge pcap file (generated by tcpdump). When I try to open it in wireshark, the program just gets unresponsive. Is there a way to split a file in set of smaller ones to open them one by one? The traffic captured in a file is generated by two programs on two servers, so I can't split the file using tcpdump 'host' or 'port' filters. I've also tried linux 'split' command :-) but with no luck. Wireshark wouldn't recognize the format.

• Thomson TG585v7 router - promiscuous mode

  I have a TG585v7 as a router with several machines plugged into it. In the default setup, the packets are only delivered to the specific machine but I want to be able to setup to monitor all network traffic on one of the machines, i.e. I need those packets to be picked up when my ethernet card is in promiscuous mode. Is this possible? Guide here has this "mcastpromisc Make the IP interface multicast promiscuous. OPTIONAL", is this what I am looking for? Does it mean I need to manually add all my machines by their MAC addresses to be able to receive packets destined for them? Or am I out of luck and I need to get a better router?

• Scan And Fix a RAW drive

  Hi Basically I got the same problem as described in this thread. When I plug my HTC Hero Android Phone with USB into my Windows 7 computer I get a "Do you want to Scan and Fix" message. However, if I click "Scan and Fix", the USB instantly unplug itself, so that's no good. I've tried updating drivers from HTC with no luck. I've also tried running chkdisk from command-line with the message that it can't be used in RAW drives. This is really really annoying, and the SD card works just fine if I ignore the message, so I just want a way to disable/hide this message permanently. If anyone have some ideas how this can be done, please let me know. Thanks.

  Trying to get my IIS 7.5 playing nice with VS 2008 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I'm getting this error: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. This happens when accessing a virtual directory outside C:\inetpub\wwwroot. I'd like to be able to create virtual directories outside the root if I can. I've added the NETWORK SERVICE to the folder hosting the virtual directory, still no luck. This folder is on my C: drive, not a share. TIA

• Word 2013: Get the page number for the previous page

  I'm trying to accomplish something very simple in Word 2013, but the feature does not seem to be available, nor can I work it out with field codes. I simply want to include, on multiple pages, "continued from page n". In terms of field codes, I have tried this: { = PAGE - 1 \* MERGEFORMAT } It just tells me that PAGE is not a defined bookmark. Is there any way that this can be done? Edit: Per documentation I found somewhere, I also tried this - but with no luck: { = { PAGE } - 1 } This just threw Syntax Error, { back, which leads me to assume that it's incompatible with newer versions of Word.

  Howdie Scenario: Allow developers to submit new application packages to a market server. Developers run a bash script which contains a cURL call to market server (localhost/market/submit/$app-name). The submit script on the server creates a new folder in existing svn server with the name of the submitted app. Script on dev side waits for HTTP to issue a success message and then do a svn checkout in dev local machine. Problem: The submit script on the market server failed to create new svn directory through code: echo `svnadmin mkdir -m 'added new package $package' http://localhost/market/packages/$package`; this does not echo nothing and when I go on http://localhost/market/packages, the folder has not been added and the revision number has not been incremented. I've tried from a terminal in market server chown root:www-data /usr/bin/svnadmin but still no luck. Somebody has come acrosss similar problem? Any solutions? Thanks! • MacBook (late 2008) EFI Firmware Update 1.8 Problem

  Last night I applied EFI Firmware update 1.8 to my Macbook (late 2008). After installing EFI Firmware Update and rebooted my computer and installed SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0. After that my Macbook rebooted and a black screen is showing with "No bootable device. Please insert bootable device and press any key to continue". I put in one of the bootable installation disck (MAC OS) and it's still stuck on the same screen. I have also tried restarting my macbook manually but no luck. Have anyone experienced that?

• How to Install Python 2.6 on Fedora 8?

  I don't want to use Fedora 8. I would be very happy to use the newest version, but there is no choice. My problem is that 8 comes with python 2.5. I am trying to upgrade it to 2.6, but with no luck. The only caveat is that I don't want to just install directly from source. I want to do it through the package manager using an rpm. I have tried building my own rpm from source using rpmbuild. I have tried using src rpms from newer versions of Fedora. I've tried these CentOS instructions. Nothing seems to actually result in an rpm file that installs successfully. I have also tried extensive Google searching, and have been unsurprisingly unable to find any rpms that work, or working instructions to build my own rpm.

• How to reverse-i-search back and forth?

  I use reverse-i-search often, and that's cool. Sometime though when pressing Ctrl+r multiple times, I pass the command I am actually looking for. Because Ctrl+r searches backward in history, from newest to oldest, I have to: cancel, search again and stop exactly at the command, without passing it. While in reverse-i-search prompt, is it possible to search forward, i.e. from where I stand to newest. I naively tried Ctrl+shift+r, no luck. I heard about Ctrl+g but this is not what I am expecting here. Anyone has an idea?

• Mac has become insanely slow : Processes SystemUIServer, UserEventAgent and loginwindow using a lot of memory

  I have been using my Mac for for many months without any problem. But recently all of a sudden the Mac became insanely slow. I opened Activity Manager to see what was happening. For three processes SystemUIServer, UserEventAgent and loginwindow, the memory gradually increases and reaches upto 2 GB for each process. This completely hangs up my Mac. I tried the following : 1. Restart Mac 2. Restart Mac in safe mode 3. Manually kill the processes 4. Remove Date and Time from Menu bar(this was supposed to be the problem for the SysteUIServer process's memory according to many users) 5. Removed the externally connected keyboard and mouse(some had suggested this for UserEventAgent's memory) No luck with any of those. The moment I log in, the memory spikes up. Any idea what the hell is happening? Please help.

How can I estimate how much more memory it needs to get to a 95% hit ratio? edit: This question was blocked, but I do not think this is impossible to answer. After all, anyone that's used a caching system HAS answered this question, most likely with trial&error&luck. I can look at my usage patterns. I can increase or decrease memory and see how hit rate changes. Both of these provide data that informs an estimate. But what's a good/better/best way to do this?

  hi. sorry to have to ask such a basic question!! i've got fedora 13, trying to figure out how to change the "I Beam" pointer. earlier, i had a "thin" "I Beam" pointer in my gedit/term windows. now, I have a "thicker/shadow" kind of "I Beam" pointer when i move the mouse over the gedit/term windows. obviously, i've made some change, but i can't figure out what I changed, or where this attribute is set. i've checked google/irc, as well as looked through the "system-preferences-appearance" with no luck.. i saw the customize part of the gui, and could resize the "arrow" but nothing for the "I-Beam". this isn't critical, but it is anoying!! any thoughts/pointers would be helpful. thanks

• Connect devices plugged into Raspberry Pi ethernet to WiFi network

  I'm just starting out on a mission to learn more about networking and I've followed a tutorial (http://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-turn-a-raspberry-pi-into-a-wifi-router/) to turn my Raspberry Pi into a wifi router. That worked really well so I modified it slightly so that I can use a tethered iphone for the internet connection - I just switched all "eth0" references to "eth1" (the iphone interface) and added a script to set everything up when the phone is plugged in. This setup has freed up the Pi's ethernet port so I'd like to try and take this a step further and allow devices plugged into it to connect to the network. If possible, I'd like to try adding a switch so I can connect multiple devices. I've tried fiddling around with nat & iptables with no luck so my question is, how can I connect devices on eth0 to my wlan network?

• Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Sound Stopped Working

  I have cancelled cable and want to watch the NCAA tournament games on my TV tonight through my 2011 Macbook Pro where I can stream the game in a browser. I have a cheap Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI converter that I have connected to my TV in the past and had no issues with audio or video, the problem is the audio has stopped working since the last time I used it a few months ago and now just keeps playing through the laptop speakers, but the video works fine. Everything with my setup is the same and when I try to force the audio output to the TV in the Audio system settings, my TV is not listed as an output option at all. I have tried various combinations of power cycling, replugging-in both devices and making sure the TV options are set properly to receive audio through HDMI but no luck. Anyone know what the issue could be?
