• Eclipse Basic Web Development?

  I want to start doing web development with Eclipse. Not Java, tomcat, axis2, or anything else anymore complicated than basic XHTML / JS / CSS development, at this time. Problem 1: I realize that it can edit those files, but its trying to manage my HTML docs as part of "my workspace", and all I want it to do is manage the files as part of my local www server HTdocs directory. Problem 2: I would like to edit WYSIWYG-style, if possible. I tried installing a plug-in for that, but I wasn't able to get w4 toolkit to function properly. This would really help me to speed up development, I think. Follow-up: I've installed WTP and its dependencies (except for the tests portion, which had install problems due to dependencies that were seemingly irreconcilable).

• Keeping a database structure up to date in a project where code is on subversion?

  I have been working with Subversion for a while now, and it's been incredible for the management of my projects, and even to help managing the deployment to several different servers, but there is just the one thing that still annoys me. Whenever I make any changes to the database structure, I need to update every server manually, I have to keep track of any changes I made, and because some of my servers run branches of the project (modifications that are still being worked on, or were made for different purposes), it's a bit awkward. Until now, I've been using a "database.sql" file, which is a dump of the database structure for a specific revision. But it just seems like such a bad way to manage this. And I was wondering, how does everyone else manage their MySQL databases when they're working on a project and using Subversion?

• Version control for Adobe Flash projects

  I'm working with a very complex Flash project which is part of a full range of services that we deploy for the use of our clients. For most of our software sources (Java, PHP, Javascript, HTML and a some supporting scripts in other languages) we use subversion for version control and management, so we do the same for our Flash projects, even though we gain little benefits from version controlling that (except being able revert to previous versions) as FLA files are stored as just binaries which we cannot get meaningful diffs from. We're putting as much code as we can into AS files which we can properly manage using subversion, but due to the requirements of our architecture and our deployment strategy (both we cannot change because of our clients needs), we still maintain a large collection of FLA files that we need to manage. I've looked at Adobe Version Cue and while I do not really understand what it does in terms of version control, will moving our Flash projects to hosting on Version Cue will give me better control then I currently get from Subversion? Also - if people can share their experience and suggestions regarding version control of Flash projects, it will be very helpful.

• Mercurial Messing Up csproj Files?

  I am using Hg to manage and merge code with three other developers involved in a VS2008 project. We do have an .hgignore file that ignores a fair number of files not necessary to track, such as *.pdb, *.obj, etc. However, we do track .csproj files. Periodically, it would seem that files go missing after a merge. We would get build issues, and have to relocate files which were in the project folders, but not in the csproj file. Eventually, I noted during a merge conflict that sometimes Hg seems to merge incorrectly. Here's a screenshot below. The actual conflict that requires manual intervention is lower in the file. But in this section, hg incorrectly replaces DirectoryTasks.cs with a new, different file called ReportTasks.cs, when in fact, both should be added. How do people manage to avoid this?

Manage files means it will be able to move files from source to destination servers. The client gave us 4 page document detailing what sort of software they are looking for. They dont want to use existing commercial softwares. They want to build their own customizable software. Has anybody worked on this type of project? • Django "Error: cannot import name escape" on windows

  I cannot run the dev server because of this error ("Error: cannot import name escape"). I assume its because of modifications I've done to the project, but i have no idea how to find where the error is originating from to fix it. I don't import anything called escape anywhere. Update Using django-admin.py rather than the projects manage.py, don't know why... Update 2 Now manage.py is working. This may be because I had a file called email.py which was trying to import email.mime.text (ie trying to import itself) renaming to sendemail.py solved this problem.

• iPhone StoreKit development: Can't create a test user?

  I'm trying to get up to speed on how to develop an in-app store using the new 3.0 SDK... but I'm a bit stuck in that I don't seem to be able to create a test account. The iTunes Connect FAQ states "To create test users for your sandbox environment, go to the Manage Users section of iTunes Connect and select In App Purchase Test User. Your test users will not have iTunes Connect access. They will just have access to the sandbox environment." ...but when I go to that Manage Users section, there's no mention of any sort of "In App Purschase Test User" or how to make one. Did I miss doing something to enable that? There is another section of that same FAQ that seems to suggest I need to have a paid app in the store first? Is that the reason I can't even use the test environment?

If I understood correctly "coordinated" implies multiple changes are encapsulated as one atomic operation. If that is the case then it seems to me that coordination only requires using a dosync call.   How should I manage memory in my mission critical embedded application? I found some articles with google, but couldn't pinpoint a really useful practical guide. The DO-178b forbids dynamic memory allocations, but how will you manage the memory than? preallocate everything in advance and send a pointer to each function that needs allocation? Allocate it on the stack? Use a global static allocator (but then it's very similar to dynamic allocation)? Answers can be of the form of regular answer, reference to a resource, or reference to good opensource embedded system for example. clarification: The issue here is not whether or not memory management is availible for the embedded system. But what is a good design for an embedded system, to maximize reliability.

• PHP upload to GoDaddy hosted site

  Hi, relatively new to both hosting and PHP, so apologies for (probably) missing the obvious, but… I built a page which would allow file uploads to my site, following the example laid out here: W3Schools PHP upload exercise Through the File Manage on my Godaddy hosting, I created a folder named ’upload’ so that the file would land there after being uploaded through the page I had built. Part of the returned page that appears after submitted the file reads: Temp file: d:temptmpphpE4C9.tmp Stored in: upload/testfile.txt which would indicate that the file has been sucesscully uploaded given the code in the example. However, I cannot see the file in the ’upload’ folder via my File Manage, or anywhere else on the hosting of my site (as far as I can see). I also cannot see the ’temp’ folder anywhere either… Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim

  I want a plugin for joomla like jforms or chronoforms in order to make a form to upload videos along with other custom fields to db and manage them. The only problem is I want this functionality to be made from inside the administrator console and not to appear on a page at my site's frontend. My site does not have a login service , so I need to make the admin able to login to administration panel and from there to upload and manage videos.   I am building a framework that manage the access to the database. the framework getting tasks from the user and handle a connection pooling that manage the access to the database. the user just send me SQL commands. One of the feature that i would like to support is working with JPA, in this case i will provide entity manager. in some cases i would like to provide JDBC access as well as JPA access. the arguments for the database are written in XML file. so for JPA i need to write the property in persistence.xml so it will be not so smart to write again the same arguments for JDBC. do you know if i can get the arguments of the database from persistence.xml, do you know if there is a source code that do it. or should i parse persistence.xml by myself?

• How can I pass Arguments to a C++ program started by the Registry?

  Hello, I'm creating a Win32 program that will be executed every time the computer turns on. I manage to do this by adding the .exe path into the registry. The problem is; I want to make the program appear minimized in the system tray when the computer is turned on but if I double click it [after the computer turns on and the program is not currently running] the program should appear on its normal [maximized] size. Question, I was thinking on whether is was possible to pass an argument to the program when the program is executed from the registry. Is this possible? If yes/no, how would I manage to do this? (Using windows XP) Thanks.

The project folder contains only 4 files: __init__.py manage.py settings.py urls.py I tried replacing twingle.urls with urls.py but then it gave me a different error. What is it I can do to get this working?

  I am a little bit puzzled about something. I am creating a ASP.NET MVC eCommerce application and currently I have written all the back end in ASP.NET MVC. I was thinking if its better to write all the management in WPF instead of HTML, as its probably even less prone to be exploited by hackers. I am a Windows user so I am not really bothered about using Linux/Mac at the moment so I am quite aware that having all the back-end written in HTML will allow users to have access to the admin area using other OS. I would like to see what are the advantages and disadvantages of having WPF to manage the content of the website as its probably much easier to develop and manage (think about Live Writer).

• Django: Change models without clearing all data?

  I have some models I'm working with in a new Django installation. Is it possible to change the fields without losing app data? I tried changing the field and running python manage.py syncdb. There was no output from this command. Renavigating to admin pages for editing the changed models caused TemplateSyntaxErrors as Django sought to display fields that didn't exist in the db. I am using SQLite. I am able to delete the db file, then re-run python manage.py syncdb, but that is kind of a pain. Is there a better way to do it?

  my question is what potential problems or difficulties would be with implementing usual web app with somewhat reach user interface (multiple dynamic tabs, accordians and so on) using jQuery MVC approach with Spring REST vs using Spring MVC. Problems what I can think of could be: I will not be able to use Spring security fully, JavaScript coding could become hard to manage, any form verification becomes not easy to manage... what else? and does jQuery MVC with REST make sense at all? On other side jQuery with MVC and REST move all GUI concerns to JavaScript side (whether it is bad or not) and leave all data manipulation to server side.

  I'm migrating some code from a working web app, but can't get it to work on the new server. Everything seems to be configured correctly, but I'm getting internal redirect limit errors in Apache2. Here are my rewrites and explanation This WORKS - any subdomains that aren't cdn. or manage. should be redirected to u.php RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(^.*)\.mediasprk\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond ^(.*)$ !^(cdn|manage)$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.(png|gif|jpg)$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ u.php?uri=$1&hostName=%{HTTP_HOST} This is no longer working. Goal here is to handle CName pointing. So if it's not my app domain (mediasprk.com), then handle it by sending it to u.php.   I am developing a website that will manage data for multiple entities. No data is shared between entities, but they may be owned by the same customer. A customer may want to manage all their entities from a single "dashboard". So should I have one database for everything, or keep the data seperated into individual databases? Is there a best-practice? What are the positives/negatives for having a: database for the entire site (entity has a "customerID", data has "entityID") database for each customer (data has "entityID") database for each entity (relation of database to customer is outside of database) Multiple databases seems like it would have better performance (fewer rows and joins) but may eventually become a maintenance nightmare.
