• Question about [literally] mapping location based on an IP address.

  I've been bored lately and I want to start a new project. I was looking at a website mentioned in a different question (http://www.grapevinegame.com/), and I thought the map and how it plots a point based on someone's IP (I assume) is pretty nifty. I want to do something like that, but I have no idea how it's done. I know you can get latitude and longitude, city and state, and some more with some already-written scripts, but how would you plot those on a map of the world? I've seen it other places, like Google Analytics and such, as well. It seems like a neat thing to be able to do, so I was just wondering how exactly it works. :-p.

• Google Map Web Service working on local but not online

  Hi all, I have a problem with a Javascript request to the Google Map Api Web Service : if I have the HTML file on my computer it works, but it doesn't work online.   i want to use google map api for my desktop application. the application will be totally connected to internet. while i was searching some research notes about this implementation. i found a ideal site with the configurations. but it has some java files to be downloaded. but when i tried that website its not loading. which is swinglabs.org http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2007/10/30/building-maps-into-swing-app-with-jxmapviewer.html any other options of doing this api implementation to my desktop application. and one more thing. i tried downloading the google api. even it ask a url. we have to provide a url then only we get a key to download it. and the api should run in that specific url. otherwise its not working. how this appears to a desktop application any ideas welcome..

  Hello everyone, What I'm looking to do is to sorta a Java List or Map in the order the items are in a XML File. For Example I have a list of function names as so: functionOne functionThree functionTwo The XML File looks like this: <xml> <function>functionOne</function> <function>functionTwo</function> <function>functionThree</function> </xml> So I would like to sort the list so the function names are as so: functionOne functionTwo functionThree Now Im trying to do this for Variables as well, so there are around 500+ unique 'items'. Does anyone have any idea how I can go about doing this? Now for the file that determines that sort order doesn't have to be XML it just what I use the most, it can be anything that can get the job done. Thanks in advance for your time.

• Why does the infobox in my MSN Map not close?

  I'm having a bit of trouble with this map, invoked by the "View our interactive map" button in the middle of the content area. If you double click a point such as 8 which causes a zoom and then afterwards it causes the info box to appear, the hide logic is wrong. If you try to close the x, it will fail. This is probably because the user clicked too fast and the map thinks its in zoom mode when infact it should be in info box mode. Has anyone ran into this issue before? Looks like I have to mess around with window.ero.hide and some other functions.. because map.HideInfoBox doesn't hide the map. EDIT: The script used is here. I did not code it, but the relevant bit has: onclick="EnableEroHide();map.HideInfoBox();changePin();return false;" The map.HideInfoBox() should hide the info box.

• Determining where to animate the map given a list of GeoPoints

  My android application loads some markers on an overlay onto a MapView. The markers are placed based on a dynamic list of GeoPoints. I want to move the map center and zoom into the area with most items. Naively, I can calculate the superposition of all the points, but I would like to remove the points that are very far from the mass of points from the calculation. Is there a known way to calculate this ? (e.g. probability, statistics .. ?)

  Hi I'm currently using yahoo map service to display a static image of a location with the latitude and longitude that I suppiled, and this work fine. But I was just wondering if it possible to send an url request to the service that will return an image with multiple markers on the image? (ie. more than one locations marked).   Alright, so I was wondering if there was an alternative, lightweight way to creating an image map. Basically, I want to take this image: And have the sections of the diagram light up when they are hovered over, kinda like this (I've mocked it up in photoshop): The other sections (which I haven't named yet) should be able to do the same. Also, I'd like to be able to use javascript later to have sliding links appear from behind those sections (I roughly know how to do that now, so I'm okay that) Does anyone have any suggestions? Just a general direction on what to search for would be great.

  I am trying to write a function [offset,coffset]=findLowNhbr(map) that for each pixel in a map finds the eight neighbors to the pixel, and returns two matrices with both the row and column offsets to the lowest neighbor (uses the numbers -1, 0 and 1). Border pixels are given 0 offsets for both the row and column, since they do not have neighbors. Here is what I think the general plan for this function should be: For each point, find the eight nearest neighbors. If the neighbor is lower than the point, return -1 If the neighbor is at the same elevation as the point, return 0 If the neighbor is higher than the point, return +1 Store these offsets in two matrices. I am at a complete loss as to where to start, so any advice or questions are welcome!

• How to I change the text location on my google map for map clusters in Fluster2?

  Hi, I'm using google maps to create a bunch of POI on a map. I'm using the Fluster2 library to cluster the POI together when there are too many in a certain location. This all works fine and I'm very happy but I would like to move where the fluster2 text is written so it matches my custom icon. ie: it has a marker with 5 written over it so that you know there are 5 poi under that cluster. Does anyone know how to change this or set the text to a specific location? Thanks The Net Duck

• Looking for a mobile platform to view vector data and use it like a simple map

  I would like to develop or use an existing platform that will allow me to view custom vector data and use it as a map on mobile phones such as Android/IPhone (Maybe even WP7). I'm hoping that there's already a good infrastructure for what I need so I would not need to develop a whole infrastructure by myself. In Conclusion - Is there any existing platform that may answer my needs? If not, how would you guys suggest I should begin? How should I save my vector data? How could I read it? Should I view it with a graphics engine like OpenGL? Is there any chance this solution could be cross-platform? I know that it's possible since it was already done with apps like Waze. And it works the same on iOS and Android. Thanks!

• Group Objects by Common Key

  I have a list of Customers. Each customer has an address and some customers may actually have the same address. My ultimate goal is to group customers based on their address. I figure I could either put the customers in some sort of list-based structure and sort on the addresses, or I could drop the objects into some sort of map that allows multiple values per key. I will now make a pretty picture: List: A1 - C1, A1 - C2, A2 - C3, A3 - C4, A3 - C5 Map: A1 A2 A3 C1 C3 C4 C2 C5 Which option (or any others) do you see as the best solution? Are there any existing classes that will make development easier?

  I need to extract the SAME type of information (e.g. First name, Last Name, Telephone, ...), from numerous different text sources (each with a different format & different order of the variables of interest). I want a function that does the extraction based on a regular expression and returns the result as DESCRIPTIVE variables. In other words, instead of returning each match result as submatch[0], submatch[1], submatch[2], ..., have it do EITHER of the following: 1.) return std::map so that the submatches can be accessed via: submatch["first_name"], submatch["last_name"], submatch["telephone"] 2.) return a variables with the submatches so that the submatches can be accessed via: submatch_first_name, submatch_last_name, submatch_telephone I can write a wrapper class around boost::regex to do #1, but I was hoping there would be a built-in or a more elegant way to do this in C++/Boost/STL/C.

• Html2Canvas ...Google Map is not rendering

  I am running a Apache Server . I have a simple screen capture set up using Html2canvas .The capture function is rendering a blank Image . I have tried numerous ways to configure the javascript using related articles from this site to no Avail . • Am I allowed to display a small image on top of a Google Maps Static Api map?

  I am the webmaster to my company's website. I was asked to make the Google Map on this page smaller, but the interactive map doesn't work well at all at 300x200. I was asked to place a screenshot there but since that seems to be a violation of Google's terms I decided to use the Static Maps API. As you can see, on the page, I have a custom pointer icon. I don't want to lose it, so I intend to use HTML and CSS to place the pointer over the map, thus replacing the original pointer on the client side. Am I allowed to do that?

• Will you still play a good Red Alert 3 mission map? [closed]

  I've been creating a RA3 mission map (play in Skirmish), most likely a remake of RA2 Yuri "To the Moon" mission, with more interesting elements. However, because of my work, the process was corrupted for more than a year. And now, I see that very few people still play RA3. So, should I continue making this map? Because there're still a lot of work to complete this map. I can assure you, the mission will be interesting. However, if few people play it, there's no need to waste time to it. • Converting python collaborative filtering code to use Map Reduce

  Using Python, I'm computing cosine similarity across items. given event data that represents a purchase (user,item), I have a list of all items 'bought' by my users. Given this input data (user,item) X,1 X,2 Y,1 Y,2 Z,2 Z,3 I build a python dictionary {1: ['X','Y'], 2 : ['X','Y','Z'], 3 : ['Z']} From that dictionary, I generate a bought/not bought matrix, also another dictionary(bnb). {1 : [1,1,0], 2 : [1,1,1], 3 : [0,0,1]} From there, I'm computing similarity between (1,2) by calculating cosine between (1,1,0) and (1,1,1), yielding 0.816496 I'm doing this by: items=[1,2,3] for item in items: for sub in items: if sub >= item: #as to not calculate similarity on the inverse sim = coSim( bnb[item], bnb[sub] ) I think the brute force approach is killing me and it only runs slower as the data gets larger. Using my trusty laptop, this calculation runs for hours when dealing with 8500 users and 3500 items. I'm trying to compute similarity for all items in my dict and it's taking longer than I'd like it to. I think this is a good candidate for MapReduce but I'm having trouble 'thinking' in terms of key/value pairs. Alternatively, is the issue with my approach and not necessarily a candidate for Map Reduce?

• Map element position in data file to class property

  I need to read/write files, following a format provided by a third party specification. The specification itself is pretty simple: it says the position and the size of the data that will be saved in the file. For example: Position Size Description -------------------------------------------------- 0001 10 Device serial number 0011 02 Hour 0013 02 Minute 0015 02 Second 0017 02 Day 0019 02 Month 0021 02 Year The list is very long, it has about 400 elements. But lots of them can be combined. For example, hour, minute, second, day, month and year can be combined in a single DateTime object. I've splitted the elements into about 4 categories, and created separeted classes for holding the data. So, instead of a big structure representing the data, I have some smaller classes. I've also created different classes for reading and writing the data. The problem is: how to map the positions in the file to the objects properties, so that I don't need to repeat the values in the reading/writing class? I could use some custom attributes and retrieve them via reflection. But since the code will be running on devices with small memory and processor, it would be nice to find another way. • How to fluent-map this (using fluent nhibernate)?

  I have two tables in my database "Styles" and "BannedStyles". They have a reference via the ItemNo. Now styles can be banned per store. So if style x is banned at store Y then its very possible that its not banned at store Z or vice verse. What is the best way now to map this to a single entity? Should I be mapping this to a single entity?
