  • How to work with bookmarks in Word without naming them?

    I am working in a large Word 2007 document and need bookmarks to remember editing positions. I know I can manage bookmarks with shift+ctrl+F5 but that's cumbersome because I am used to do this a lot faster in the Delphi editor. There I create a bookmark with ctrl+shift+0..9 and jump to the bookmark with ctrl+0..9. In this way I have 10 quick bookmarks. I do not have to name them, I do not have to pick them from a dialog (because there is not even a dialog prompting me for a selection). Is something similar possible in Word, or has anybody made a macro for that purpose? Thanks.

    My Word 2007 spell-check seems to work fine, except that when I paste in text from somewhere else, it won't detect any misspellings in that pasted text...no matter what I try. If it makes any difference, when I paste in text, the formatting is preserved (size color etc). Any ideas on what to try?

I have an physical machine with 500GB HDD, on what is installed old Windows-2003 server with one server application. The application is like the windows itself, too old, no support for it today, haven't installation media and so on.. ;( On the HDD it is used only approx. 100MB (maybe less when will delete all unnecessary files). Want convert the the machine into the VirtualBox, and the VirtualBox should run on the same machine. Is possible to do this with the next steps? I can attach another HDD (via USB or internally) Boot an live Linux from CD, mount HDDs Run "something" on the Linux (the above wikipedia article have many pointer for the SW) for the conversion and store the image on the USB HDD - unfortunately, many of tools uses some specialty what exists in Windows-XP and above. No informations about Windows-2003 server, so what is an working solution for Windows-2003? try boot the virtual image with VirtualBox when it will run ok, remove the old installation, install Linux on the old 500GB hdd, copy the image and run.. The above should works (i hope), but the problems: i currently have only 320GB external USB hdd. (ofc, i can remove it from a box and enter it as internal HDD too) so, for the conversion I looking for the on the fly HDD shrink, so while moving the physical 500GB HDD need shrink it into smaller HDD - as i told above, only 100MB is used Exists something for this? (free) - or the only way is buying and larger 1TB hdd and using it for the conversion? Another question are: is anybody have real experience with windows-2003 conversion into VirtualBox? Looking for an answer from someone who really doing it and can figure out real pitfalls. (googling can do myself). exists here better approach for the solution?

  • SMTP Remote Queue on Exchange 2003

    We are currently using Windows Server 2003 R2 with Exchange 2003 and SolarWinds Exchange Monitor to monitor. A couple of weeks ago the SMTP remote queue began to build up and it got to about 150 messages in the queue when it began to go down. For the last couple of days the queue has been building up and it has now reached 450 messages. Is there anyway that i can clear this and is it anything that I need to worry about? Thanks guys!

    have installed VS 2003 in my XP VM, which was shared from a remote drive, after installing, when I tried to open new windows application, the IDE freezes, I have tried it many times, repairing, uninstalling .net 1.1 and VS 2003 and again install, mapping the share drive to my local, etc., After all these trials I was left with no option I know...     Jumping to a specific page in Word is a common task and easy to do using the Find and Replace dialog box. You can also use this same tab to jump from one table directly to the next table in your document. Your cursor does not have to be in a table to jump to the next table. Put the cursor in any paragraph or table and press F5 or use the Ctrl + G keystroke combination to open the Find and Replace dialog box. The Go To tab is automatically selected. Select Table from the Go to what list and click Next. The next table in your document is selected and the Find and Replace dialog box stays open.

    I have Microsoft Project Professional 2003 installed (11.2.2005.1801.15, SP2). I have been trying to open a MPP file created in a newer version so need the converter, which is part of SP3. But when I try to install the SP3 package (as downloaded from Microsoft's site) I get an error message box: --------------------------- Project 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) --------------------------- The expected version of the product was not found on your system. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Project (and Office) are licensed and otherwise work correctly.     Hi, I am trying to duplicate a feature that exists in Multimate (Ashton Tate) word processor. Yes, the one that hasnt been supported for 20 years! If I can duplicate this one feature I can get all the users off MM and onto Word. The thing that MM does really easily is that there is a function key that they can press at any time that will - - jump the cursor from the paragraph they are writing over to the right hand side - create a numeric field - allow them to enter a number into the numeric field - return them to the left hand side to start a new paragraph What MM also does is automatically total the numeric fields on each page and create a subtotal in the page footer. it also creates a total for the entire document and puts this in the footer of the last page. I would like to duplicate this feature in word with a macro, but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions or code would be great, thanks, will.

    I have a form (Quote) with an auto-number ID, on the form at the moment are two subforms that show different items (sub 1 shows partition modules sub 2 shows partition abutments) both forms use the same parts tables to build them. Both forms are linked to the quote form using the ID. All works well until the forms is refreshed or re-loaded, subform 1 shows the module names and quantities and blank spaces for the abutment names but shows the quantiews for the abutments, the reverse of this is shown in the abutments subform 2. When the lists for the variuos types and the detailed parts lists are printed they are correct. This seems to be only a visual problem. All based on Access 2003.   • Cannot authenticate to SBS 2003

    I am trying to connect my machine to my work's entirely windows network and I am having a few issues: Whenever I try to access the server, the authentication dialog just keeps popping back up. I cannot connect to the printers (it says connecting to device failed) I have tried setting up samba, winbind, kerberos, likewise open all to no avail. I have a feeling I am just setting them up wrong.   • Dreamweaver Delete Space to Word, Not Word

    There's a built in DW keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Del) that deletes up to AND INCLUDING the first word to the right. I used to use the ColdFusion Studio app for coding and it would just remove the space UP TO the word (left the word or bracket, or whatever alone.) Any DW users know if this is a setting that can be changed? I'm really used to the old behavior and keep deleting the first word, hitting Ctrl + Z to put it back and then having to manually delete all the spaces to leave the word... Hoping one of you geniuses can help! Thanks, D.

  • What would keep a Microsoft Word AutoNew() macro from running?

    I'm using Microsoft Office 2003 and creating a bunch of template documents to standardize some tasks. I know it's standard practice to put the templates in an certain place Office expects to find them but that won't work for me. What I want is to have "My Template Foo.dot" and "My Template Bar.dot", etc. in the "My Foo Bar Stuff" on a shared drive and users will double click on the template to create a new Foo or Bar. What's I'd really like is for the user to double click on the Foo template and be prompted for a couple of items related to their task (e.g., a project number) and have a script in the template change the name that Save will default to something like "Foo for Project 1234.doc". I asked on Google Groups and got an answer that worked....for a while. Then my AutoNew macro stopped kicking in when I created a new document by double clicking on the template. I have no idea why or how to debug it. I'm a software engineering with 25+ years of experience but a complete Office automation noob. Specific solutions and pointers to "this is how to automate Word" FAQs are welcome. Thanks.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 on the Mac sometimes "Disappears" documents, really.

    This happens in a computer lab environment, has happened at least 3 times. We are running Microsoft Office 2008 for mac on Leopard, everything is updated. Our user's home directories are on a network drive, but the /Library/Cache folder is running locally. Typically a student will have a Word file that they have been working on, it's been saved before they even logged onto the computer that day. They log on, open the document, click the save icon (not go to File Save), sometimes even save multiple times, then close Word. The document is now gone. It's not hidden, there are no autosaves or anything in the Cache folder. Definitely not in the trash or trashes folder. It can't find it when you click on it in 'recent documents'. Searching meticulously though every folder in their home drive turns up nothing. They look using Finder, I look ssh'd as root into their home using ls -la. I look for similar files in case they renamed it by mistake. It's gone. Disappeared. Vaporized. It's happened to at least 3 different users in the past year. Much whining. Any idea?

    Two days ago,a colleague of mine tried to publish an asp.net website (which is built in VS2008 using framework 3.5) to our server,he configured everything in IIS (he made sure that the selected asp.net version is 2.0) and launched the website..at first it was working great but when he tried to click on a specific treeview...BOOM..: "Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request." In that page there were these control: a TreeView and a Placeholder,when the user selects any node then it's controls will be created dynamically into that placeholder..for the first time it's working fine but when (s)he select another node then that issue appears. He called me to help him with this issue,for me this is the first time I see such an issue,scratch my head then I decided to eliminate the possibilities of this issue one by one,at the development machine it's working perfectly,he published the website at the local IIS and again..it's working perfectly,I took a copy of the website and published it into my laptop but no issues at all,so this is means that it's not an issue in the code. So there is something missing/wrong in our server [it has Windows Server 2003],we went to the server and checked on the web-config and the configurations on IIS...nothing wrong so far,so I decided to check if the framework 3.5 is installed or not and the answer: it wasn't installed Of course he assumed that it was installed and there was nothing to tell if it wasn't from the "ASP.Net version" in IIS because frameworks 3.0 and 3.5 will not be listed there [2.0 will be listed there instead],the only way to check if it was installed or not is to search for the framework in this path:[WINDOWS Folder]\Microsoft.NET\Framework or check if it was installed in Add or remove programs. The obvious solution for his case: We installed Framework 3.5 SP1 into our server,did a restart to the machine and it worked ! If anyone faced the same issue and solved it using the same solution or with a different one please post it here to share experience.

  • Can I read an Outlook (2003/2007) PST file in C#?

    Is it possible to read a .PST file using C#? I would like to do this as a standalone application, not as an Outlook addin (if that is possible). If have seen other SO questions similar to this mention MailNavigator but I am looking to do this programmatically in C#. I have looked at the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook namespace but that appears to be just for Outlook addins. LibPST appears to be able to read PST files, but this is in C (sorry Joel, I didn't learn C before graduating). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Thank you all for the responses!   • Certain clients (IP range) can not ping server

    I just virtualized a Windows 2003 Server SP2 x32. The server contained our help desk server (Spiceworks) and our anti virus management server (ESET RAC). The host computer actually contained the virtualized server originally; I created the vhd and then I wiped this system clean and installed Windows 2008 R2 x64 Datacenter and added the virtualized 2003 onto the Hyper-V 2008 R2 Server. I got the server running fine except for... certain ip ranges. Local clients can get updates from the AV server from my 192.168.180.xxx & 192.168.181.xxx BUT NOT from any 192.168.182.xxx, 192.168.183.xxx, 192.168.184.xxx etc... I can not ping the server from any clients except for the 180. & 181. ranges. Now I created 2 other virtualized servers (win2008 & a win7 pro) and they exist on the same virtual host as the 2003 server. And at first I could not ping those until I went to the "\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings" and Turned On File and Print Sharing. Then I could ping and access those virtualized guests. Win2003 server isn't quite the same. But I am sure I have it on. But now when I ping from a client on one of those ranges that would not work I get this: As you can see the ping leaves our network. We have 2 ad/dns servers (one 180. & the other in the 181. range). Is it DNS? Both AD/DNS servers are Windows 2003. And we plan on upgrading both to 2008 R2 within a month or two but I need to fix this issue pronto (esp the AV end). btw, I did rename that 2003 Server (Spiceworks/AV) hostname. And I tried a CNAME. But I do not think that is the problem. EDIT: OR because this server existed on this hardware/computer before becoming virtualized?
