    I read a quote recently by Rich Hein of CIO.com "Certifications are, like most things in life: The more you put into them, the more you will get out." This is what we tell candidates all the time. The real value in obtaining a certification is the time spent preparing for the exam. All the hours spent reading books, practicing in hands-on environments, asking questions and searching for answers is valuable. It's valuable preparation for the exam, but it's also valuable preparation for your future job role and for your career. If your goal is just to pass an exam, you've missed a very important part of the value of certification.We receive so many questions through different forms of social media on whether or not certification will help candidates get jobs or get better jobs. Surveys conducted by us and by independent entities all point to the job and salary benefits of certification. However, a key part of that equation is whether a candidate can actually perform successfully in a job role. If preparation time was used to practice and learn and master new skills rather than to memorize a brain dump, the candidate will probably perform successfully in their job role, and job opportunities and higher salary will likely follow. Candidates who do not show that initiative, will not likely reap the full benefits of certification.Keep this in mind as you approach your next certification exam. You are preparing for a career, not an exam. This may help you to be more appreciative of the long hours spent studying!

No errors, nothing. I don't see any actual changes in the objects in the HTML that should cause this. How do I fix this? Any workarounds or bandaides I can apply?     Have just started playing with ASP.NET MVC and have stumbled over the following situation. It feels a lot like a bug but if its not, an explanation would be appreciated :) The View contains pretty basic stuff <%=Html.DropDownList("MyList", ViewData["MyListItems"] as SelectList)%> <%=Html.TextBox("MyTextBox")%> When not using a model, the value and selected item are set as expected: //works fine public ActionResult MyAction(){ ViewData["MyListItems"] = new SelectList(items, "Value", "Text"); //items is an ienumerable of {Value="XXX", Text="YYY"} ViewData["MyList"] = "XXX"; //set the selected item to be the one with value 'XXX' ViewData["MyTextBox"] = "ABC"; //sets textbox value to 'ABC' return View(); } But when trying to load via a model, the textbox has the value set as expected, but the dropdown doesnt get a selected item set. //doesnt work public ActionResult MyAction(){ ViewData["MyListItems"] = new SelectList(items, "Value", "Text"); //items is an ienumerable of {Value="XXX", Text="YYY"} var model = new { MyList = "XXX", //set the selected item to be the one with value 'XXX' MyTextBox = "ABC" //sets textbox value to 'ABC' } return View(model); } Any ideas? My current thoughts on it are that perhaps when using a model, we're restricted to setting the selected item on the SelectList constructor instead of using the viewdata (which works fine) and passing the selectlist in with the model - which would have the benefit of cleaning the code up a little - I'm just wondering why this method doesnt work....   • Amazon S3 Change file download name

    I have files stored on S3 with a GUID as the key name. I am using a pre signed URL to download as per S3 REST API I store the original file name in my own Database. When a user clicks to download a file from my web application I want to return their original file name, but currently all they get is a GUID. How can I achieve this? My web app is in salesforce so I do not have much control to do response.redirects all download the file to the web server then rename it due to governor limitations. Is there some HTML redirect, meta refresh, Javascript I can use? Is there some way to change the download file name for S3 (the only thing I can think of is coping the object to a new name, downloading it, then deleting it). I want to avoid creating a bucket per user as we will have a lot of users and still no guarantee each file with in each bucket will have a unique name Any other solutions?

    Hi I want to load my windows form: web browser thats using the webbrowser control, It would load a web page, and load my defination and search for elements that has been define, it will then assign the default values and these values can not be changed by the end user. Example If my application finds "FirstName" it would always assign the value "John" If my application finds "LastName" it would always assign the value "Smith" (these values should not be changed by the end user). I am just learning about LINQ to XML in all its glory and frailty, trying to hack it to do what I want to do: Given an XML file like this - <list> <!-- random data, keys, values, etc.--> <key>FIRST_WANTED_KEY</key> <value>FIRST_WANTED_VALUE</value> <key>SECOND_WANTED_KEY</key> <value>SECOND_WANTED_VALUE</value> <!-- wanted because it's first --> <key>SECOND_WANTED_KEY</key> <value>UNWANTED_VALUE</value> <!-- not wanted because it's second --> <!-- nonexistent <key>THIRD_WANTED_KEY</key> --> <!-- nonexistent <value>THIRD_WANTED_VALUE</value> --> <!-- more stuff--> </list> I want to extract the values of a set of known "wanted keys" in a robust fashion, i.e. if SECOND_WANTED_KEY appears twice, I only want SECOND_WANTED_VALUE, not UNWANTED_VALUE. Additionally, THIRD_WANTED_KEY may or may not appear, so the query should be able to handle that as well. I can assume that FIRST_WANTED_KEY will appear before other keys, but can't assume anything about the order of the other keys - if a key appears twice, its values aren't important, I only want the first one. An anonymous data type consisting of strings is fine. My attempt has centered around something along these lines: var z = from y in x.Descendants() where y.Value == "FIRST_WANTED_KEY" select new { first_wanted_value = ((XElement)y.NextNode).Value, //... } My question is what should that ... be? I've tried, for instance, (ugly, I know) second_wanted_value = ((XElement)y.ElementsAfterSelf() .Where(w => w.Value=="SECOND_WANTED_KEY") .FirstOrDefault().NextNode).Value which should hopefully allow the key to be anywhere, or non-existent, but that hasn't worked out, since .NextNode on a null XElement doesn't seem to work. I've also tried to add in a .Select(t => { if (t==null) return new XElement("SECOND_WANTED_KEY",""); else return t; }) clause in after the where, but that hasn't worked either. I'm open to suggestions, (constructive) criticism, links, references, or suggestions of phrases to Google for, etc. I've done a fair share of Googling and checking around S.O., so any help would be appreciated.     hello All, I am new to the programming world of dojo and web applications. I am trying to acomplish a task where I want to manipulate the textbox value with some text. I tried everything including some code from dojocampus, but even this code doesnot do anything. I have also tried to create an instance , with dojo.widget.byId and dijit.byId and then tried the instance.value = 'newtext' and everything that I could find but for some reason , the textbox is not updating.     I'm using Jekyll to create a new blog. It uses Liquid underneath. Jekyll defines certain "variables": site, content, page, post and paginator. These "variables" have several "members". For instance, post.date will return the date of a post, while post.url will return its url. My question is: can I access a variable's member using another variable as the member name? See the following example: {% if my_condition %} {% assign name = 'date' %} {% else %} {% assign name = 'url' %} {% endif %} I have a variable called name which is either 'date' or 'url'. How can I make the liquid equivalent of post[name] in ruby? The only way I've found is using a for loop to iterate over all the pairs (key-value) of post. Beware! It is quite horrible: {% for property in post %} {% if property[0] == name %} {{ property[1] }} {% endif %} {% endfor %} Argh! I hope there is a better way. Thanks.

    Objective: In support of a Windows Service that may have multiple instances on a single machine, use a Setup Project to create an MSI capable of: Receiving user input for Service Name Installing service Serializing Service Name from 1 (so that the proper name can be used in logging and uninstall) My initial hope was to set Service Name in App.config (and then retrieve it during uninstall upon instantiation of the ServiceInstaller. This seems to have been naive, because it is not accessible during the install. If MyInstaller extends Installer, it can call base.Install(); however, my attempts to write to app.config (within MyInstaller.Install() and after base.Install()) are inneffective. So while the service can be installed with a custom Service Name, that name is not serialized and the installer is most displeased upon uninstall. How should this be done?

Most of the data is fine, but the Limits and Permissions are setout differently.   • Hibernate not using schema and catalog name in id generation with strategy increment

    Hi, I am using the hibernate increment strategy to create my IDs on my entities. @GenericGenerator(name="increment-strategy", strategy="increment") @Id @GeneratedValue(generator="increment=strategy") @Column(name="HDR_ID", unique=true, nullable=false) public int getHdrId(){ return this.hdrId; } The entity has the following table annotation @Table(name = "PORDER.PUB.PO_HEADER", schema = "UVOSi", catalog = "VIRT_UVOS") Please note I have two datasources. When I try to insert an entity Hibernate creates the following SQL statement: select max(hdr_id) from PORDER.PUB.PO_HEADER which causes the following error: Group specified is ambiguous, resubmit the query by fully qualifying group name. When I create a query by hand with entityManager.createQuery() hibernate uses the fully qualified name select XXX from VIRT_UVOS.UVOSi.PORDER.PUB.PO_HEADER and that works fine. So how do I get Hibernate to use the fully qualified name in the Id autogeneration? Btw. I am using Hibernate 3.2 and Seam 2.2 running on JBoss 4.2.3 Regards Immo

  • textfield value empty when i fill it with javascript

    i am using modalpopup to enter some value in a textfield. after the value is selected in the modalpopup view, the modalpopup is closed and the value has taken the propriate value. Even if the value is displyed in the textfield, the textfield1.text returns me string empty. when i see the source code (html), i see that even that the textfield is displaying something it hasn't really this value in it, because the appropriate html input field hasn't value yet. thats the code i use to fill this textfield. function CloseRequestModal(s) { document.getElementById('<%=txtRequest.ClientID%>').value = s; var mpu = $find('<%=ModalPopupExtender3.ClientID%>'); mpu.hide(); } Please Help, Thanks in advance.

    I have a class Foo which overrides equals() and hashCode() properly. I would like to also would like to use a HashSet<Foo> to keep track of "canonical values" e.g. I have a class that I would like to write like this, so that if I have two separate objects that are equivalent I can coalesce them into references to the same object: class Canonicalizer<T> { final private Set<T> values = new HashSet<T>(); public T findCanonicalValue(T value) { T canonical = this.values.get(value); if (canonical == null) { // not in the set, so put it there for the future this.values.add(value); return value; } else { return canonical; } } } except that Set doesn't have a "get" method that would return the actual value stored in the set, just the "contains" method that returns true or false. (I guess that it assumes that if you have an object that is equal to a separate object in the set, you don't need to retrieve the one in the set) Is there a convenient way to do this?   • A null value should be considered as 0 when addition of it is done with decimal value.

    There are three column in the datatable A,B and C. Now each column is type of decimal. Now I am doing like dt.Columns["A"].Expression="B+C"; to make addition of Column B's record and column C's record. Now if there is any value of B or C is null then addition of B and C will be null like B's value is 3 and C's value is null for first row then B+C(3+null) will be null which is not appropriate, the result of addition should be 3.If I replace 0 instead of null then it will be ok.But whereever there is null value in the records it should be remain it is and it should not be replaced by 0.That is null value should not be replaced by 0 and when addition of null value is done with any decimal value null value should be considered as 0. Is it possible,how can we do this ?

    Hello, I've a problem with DropDownlist Name in ASP.NET MVC In my EditorTemplate, I've <%: Html.DropDownList("PoolGeometry",Model.selectVm.PoolGeometry, new { id = "poolgeometry" })%> In generate html, I've <select name="Pool.PoolGeometry" id="poolgeometry"> Normally, "PoolGeometry" is a field in db. If my dropdownlistname has the same name, selected value is value of field. I don't understand this automatic rename! EDIT : Name is dependent on EditorTemplate : if EditorTemplate called like this: <%: Html.EditorFor(model => model.Pool,"SwimmingPool","")%> Name of dropdownlist is "PoolGeometry" and selectedvalues are ok. (i am using a XPathNavigator in my method) <testsystem> <test> <name>one</name> </test> </testsystem> I was able to get a attribute with a syntax alike this: (but when changing the xml struture it no longer holds a attribute value) string name = nav.GetAttribute("name", "") But have no luck getting the value with a nav as of yet.
