  How do i make my vb.net application (running on intranet) compatible with all the browsers. The problem is all the text boxes and drop downs size varies when I browse the application in different browsers. For example when I browse in Chrome all the drop downs size changes and textbox becomes small.In IE8 all the dropdowns , comboboxes and the size of the grids gets changed. The combobox in firefox and IE 7 or later gets small in size.Is there any solution for this. And also I would like to add , the application works perfectly with IE6 only.

  I am currently rethinking the object dispose handling of the qooxdoo JavaScript framework. Have a look at the following diagram (A is currently in scope): Let's say we want to delete B. Generally, we cut all reference between all objects. This means we cut connection 1 to 5 in the example. Is this really necessary? As far as I have read hear 1, browsers use the mark-and-sweep algorithm. In that case, we just need to cut reference 1 (connection to the scope) and 5 (connection to the DOM) which could be much faster. • Wrong extraction of .attr("href") in IE7 vs all other browsers?

  Can it really be true that the attr("href") command for a link is handled very different in IE7 in comparison to all other browsers? Let's say I have a page at http://example.com/page.html and I have this HTML: <a href="#someAnchor" class="lnkTest">Link text</a> and this jQuery: var strHref = $(".lnkTest").attr("href"); Then in IE7 the value of the strHref variable will be "http://example.com/page.htm#someAnchor" but in other browsers it will be "#someAnchor". I believe that the last mentioned case is the most correct one, so is it just a case of IE7 being a bad boy or is it a bug in jQuery?

  As I understand the XML spec, the significance of the order of child elements is not guaranteed. XML parsers tend to keep child elements in the same order as they occur in the XML document, but they are under no obligation to do so. If that's so, then are browsers free to render the <li>s in an <ol> or an <ul> in a different order than they occur in the XHTML? Or is it specified in the XHTML spec somewhere that order has to be preserved? I realise that all major browsers will respect the order of my <li>s. I'm just interested in the academic question of whether or not they are technically obliged to.

  If I understand right, applications sometimes use HTTP to send messages, since using other ports is liable to cause firewall problems. But how does that work without conflicting with other applications such as web-browsers? In fact how do multiple browsers running at once not conflict? Do they all monitor the port and get notified... can you share a port in this way? I have a feeling this is a dumb question, but not something I ever thought of before, and in other cases I've seen problems when 2 apps are configured to use the same port.

• HTML5 drag & drop: The dragged element content is missing in Webkit browsers.

  I'm trying to implement something similar to a cart where you can drop items from a list. This items (<li> elements) has some elements inside (divs, span, and that stuff). The drag and drop itself works great. But the dragged element's image doesn't show its content in Webkit browsers. My list element has a border an a background color. In Firefox, the image is the whole item. In Webkit browsers, only the dragged element without content. I see the background and border, but without text inside.   When you run more than 6 applications on Windows 7 and you press alt-TAB, icons representing the first 6 applications and the desktop appear on the first row of the grid and you can cycle with alt-TAB-TAB... through the 6 most recently used windows the usual way, but the 7th and other less recently used windows don't follow the same rules. Instead they get grouped together according to their application but disregarding whether they were recently used or not. This new behavior is mentioned here. I am very used to the old way of cycling and the new system is driving me crazy. I tend to have 20 or so windows open at one time and I frequently need to alt-tab to the 7th or 8th window on the stack but it doesn't work the same anymore. Does anyone know how to put back the old behavior, so that alt-tab-tab-tab... goes through the whole list in most-recent to least-recent order?

• Can I fix memory leaks in browsers? (Win7 64bit IE9 Chrome)

  I have a habit of opening websites in their own window, then getting interested in something else in another window while leaving the first window open with the intention of returning to finishing reading. Sometimes I'll leave browser windows open for quite a while. When I do, the browser locks-up gigs of memory until it uses so much, IE will no longer respond. I've seen one browser window use up over 2 gigs just sitting there doing nothing. Chrome appears to do it too, but it doesn't use nearly as much as IE. Is there a way to stop this? Any ideas what may be causing it? Is it a problem with the OS or the browsers? Any insight is appreciated.

• Why maximum 1.0 Gbit Ethernet connection an old notebook, and only 100 Mbit on newer faster computer

  Strange problem about Ethernet speed: recently we bought an i7 core computer running Win7 64 bit with an onboard Gigabit Ethernet controller (Realtek PCIe Gbit Ethernet Family controller). Connecting this new fast pc directly to our brand new ASUS Gigabit Ethernet router via CAT6 cable(!) shows up the adapter status (see picture attached) only 100mbit, while the router is capable of 1000 mbit. More facts: Connecting an 8 year old IBM notebook with gigabit ethernet to the same cable end shows 1.0 Gbit connection in its adapter status. Speedtest.net shows 35 mbit/s down on the new computer Speedtest.net shows 78 mbit/s down on the old rusty IBM notebook. We have an 120 mbit down internet connection, which we we truly receive on another pc (also directly connected to the router) How to get the 1.0 Gbit going in the new pc ?

  Hello everyone, I've had a headache of a weekend after upgrading to the latest firmware for my wrt54g. Suffice it to say I'm not satisfied with the latest version. Now I'm looking around for the previous version of the firmware out there on the interwebs and am having trouble. I noticed that linksys at one point had an ftp site: ftp://ftp.linksys.com. There you could find old firmware for your device. It now appears defunct. Does anyone know where I could find old firmware versions for my wrt54g router?

  We need to design an browser application accessed by a fixed set of external entities (providers). I was wondering if there is a pre-existing survey that is 1) Online 2) Determines the browsers being used etc. without the users having to type it in 3) Determine connectivity from IP address. (Like how Speedtest.com does ). It can tell what your ISP is ,etc without having the user fill it in. The ability to add other questions. So basically a recipient of the survey would navigate to the site, the survey questions that can be inferred , are prefilled so as make recipient only answer the non-technical questions of the survey.

• Why do all my browsers default to the "Impact" font?

  I've been struggling with a font issue which I hope you can help resolve. A few weeks ago I started seeing "Impact" as the default font on lots of webpages, rendering much of the content illegible. I think this issue began after I installed other fonts, but I'm not sure. The issue occurs on Chrome, IE and Firefox which suggests it is a Windows issue. By the time I tried to revert the changes via System Restore, it was too late. I tried to reset the default font but Windows does not seem to respond to that. When I click "Restore to default font settings" the button greys out but nothing else happens. No dialog box and no change in the issue. I've tried deleting the fonts in my font folder and re-installing them (from backup) but that did not work either. • How can I remove OLD history from Google Chrome?

  I'm working on a laptop with a modest hard drive, and 500MB is taken up with Google Chrome "History Index" and "Thumbnails" files. Some of these files are a year old. Chrome offers me the option to remove recent history, but I want the opposite: I want to remove old history. (Ideally I would remove the least recently used history information, but I don't expect to be able to do that.) Anyone have any ideas? I'm running the standard Debian google-chrome-beta package.

• How do I import Outlook 2007 accounts and rules and IE usernames and stored passwords from old HD?

  I had an older PC running Win7 and the motherboard died on me. I've since updated my PC to another Win7 machine running a RAID 0 along with my old HDD installed as an extra drive. The problem is, I need to somehow import my Outlook email accounts (10) and rules along with my IE usernames and adjacent stored passwords for all the sites I've visited. I don't want to have to recreate the wheel for all this data. What I've found is that I have to run regedit in order to do so, but I cannot seem to boot to the old drive in order to run regedit and export the files. Can someone please help me?

  Every time I open an XML file, all I get is blank page instead of tag tree. The file itself is correct and loads okay, I can see it via View Source or in the Firebug. I've tried turning off all my addons and tried running Firefox in safe mode, but the problem was not solved. I'm guessing that I've messed up my configuration somehow and Firefox now tries to render XML files as HTML ones. I've tried googling, but with no success. Help, please? • What is a safe way to dispose of personal info on an old laptop and what to do with said laptop?

  I have an old laptop someone gave me that only has 64Megs of RAM on it and runs WIN XP. I wanted to wipe the drive clean by installing Ubuntu Desktop to remove any shred of personal information on it and to make it useful to someone else. But the Ubuntu installer keeps failing because there is not enough RAM. Is there another version of Linux that would easily install on a 64 Megs of RAM system? 2nd part of question, what do I do with this old laptop? It doesn't have a battery anymore and has to be plugged into the wall to run. Assuming I can install a good Linux distro on it, who do I give it to? Salvation Army? I'm looking to just have it be useful to someone or some organization for spare parts or some basic computer usage.

• Mail being delivered to both old and new server.

  Two days ago I migrated our old site to a new server. I turned down the ttl before I did it and some email is still going to our old server and some to our new after a little over 48 hours. Both these are on shared hostgator sites. From what I can tell everything is set up properly. An nslookup points to the right ip address. Any insight? Support just tells me that everything is set up properly and I have to wait for propagation. I've never had it take over 48 hours though.

  We are doing some cleanup, and there is an old Exchange VM hanging around that we want to get rid of. We do not have the local admin credentials, but we can ascertain that it is not part of the current domain. Seeing as the new production Exchange server is working fine, is it safe to power off and remove the old server? *I should probably note that this is not an Edge Transport server. There was an upgrade to Exchange 2013 at some point in the past, and there is only one functioning Exchange server now.

• All browsers hang on windows 7 in tab says 'Waiting for...' need restart

  I'm having a frustrating problem with browsers on OS windows 7 home premium. IE 10: My web browsing works ok for a while and then pages freeze and tab at top says "Waiting for ...' and never loads. Strangely I can still get to Google search results but if I click anything it freezes. Chrome freezes too and says 'The page has become unresponsive ...kill page' Safari stops also. I have tried clearing cookies, cache, turning off Bitdefender firewall and nothing apart from a restart fixes it. consequently I am forced to restart my computer several times a day to stop this browser hang. I have no idea what could be causing this ..any help greatly appreciated.

  In what platforms/browsers does Adobe Flash come preinstalled? I'm pretty sure neither FireFox nor Safari include it on any platform but Chrome on Windows does (not sure about Mac or Linux). What about IE on a completely vanilla Win XP system? Or Win 7? Maybe mfgs like Dell add it if MS doesn't? Perhaps we can find (or build) a comprehensive list. Considering that Flash is a significant piece of the web platform, I hope I've asked this on the right place.

• Is there a way to redirect certain URLs to specific web browsers in Linux?

  I'm using Chrome as my default browser in Ubuntu 12.10. I need to use Firefox for business purposes (certain websites pertaining to my work only work with Firefox). Is there a way to force Ubuntu to use Firefox for certain types of URLs (maybe as defined by a regular expression) while maintaining Chrome as my default browser for all my other tasks? Perhaps as a shell script running in the background? I'd like this to work system-wide, covering links from Chrome itself as well as PDFs/ODTs, etc. I have searched for solutions, but I couldn't find anything besides OpenWith, a Firefox extension which adds a button to open certain links in other browsers which would again require me to open Firefox beforehand, which does not help me at all. Does anyone have any ideas? Something like Choosy for Linux?
