• Natively open .doc or .odt file in LaTex

  I have looked at ways to convert word or open office text files to LaTex format, and those have been addressed on SU here and here. These will work, but I'd rather have a native single-step solution. Does anyone know of any module or add-on for LaTex that will let one open .doc and/or .odt files without the use of third-party conversion tools? It would be ideal if it would allow for editing and saving in the same format. If it makes any difference, I am using LaTex Editor in Windows.

• How to remove a plain text protecting single quote from all the selected cells in LibreOffice Calc?

  I've imported a CSV file having the first column to be date-time values in ISO 8601 format like 2012-01-01T00:00:00.000Z for the first moment of the year 2012. Then, willing to make LibreOffice to recognize the format (as I was looking forward to plot a diagram), I've selected the column, chosen Format Cells... and entered the custom time format as YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.000Z And this seems to work if... I edit a cell to remove a hidden single-quote from its beginning (which serves to protect a cell content from being interpreted) as all the newly formatted cells now store values like '2012-01-01T00:00:00.000Z (note the single quote - it is only visible when you edit a particular cell). And I am to do so for all the cells in the column. How can I automate this? UPDATE: I've already found a solution for the particular case of mine: it helps to set a column format to "time" in the CSV import dialogue. But I am still curious how could this be done in case I wouldn't have the original .csv data file to import but only the .ods file with the data already imported without the format specified at the import time.

• Associating multiple data with a single entry in Open Office Base

  I'm trying to build a database that I can use to track prices of groceries on certain dates. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to have a single entry associate with multiple data. For example, carrots. The index would be carrots. Then, a few categorizing fields (ie, Produce|Vegetable) Then, I can enter a price, date that the price was valid, store that was selling for said price, etc. And the next time I buy carrots, I can just add a new set of pricing data that would be associated with the original carrots entry. I know very little about database building, so if anyone has something I could just modify, I would greatly appreciate it. Alternatively, a step by step tutorial would be great.

• Windows 7 autostarting apps as administrator

  Hello everyone. The question is easy to answer I guess. (Tried to search here, didn't find an answer.) So. The deal: There is a bug in OpenOffice (haha ..just one? :)), which prevents the spellcheck. You have to start it with right-click , run as administrator to make it work. Tried also setting this at the 'properties', but it didn't work. But 'quickstart.exe' would be also enough to make this work. (OpenOffice's quickstarter). So I'd like to run it at boot, as an admin, like I'd do with right-click. How to do THAT? (Actually there is a different bug for spellcheck on Win7. One have to run oowriter.exe as an admin, and then install the extension BY HAND from Program Files...\share...*.oxt. And THEN it'll work IF you run the app as an admin. (I'll buy SoftMaker's office as soon as the hu spellcheck arrives, but until then I have to make this work. Thanks for the answers in advance.))

• Automatically insert Cell References from one Sheet into other Sheet in OOO Calc

  I have a spreadsheet in Open Office 3.0 Calc. The spreadsheets consist of the first sheet and an arbitrary number of additional sheets, each collecting data for a specific month. The Month sheets have an identical structure. The first sheet is supposed to provide an overview to the most important numbers in the month sheets. What I would like to do is this: Whenever I add a Month sheet, I want it to appear automatically in the Overview sheet with the structure given below. So, for each Month sheet, copy or reference some of the cells into the Overview sheet: {Referenced Sheet Name} | Fixed Header1 | Fixed Header2 | Fixed Header3 Fixed Label 1 | {CellRef 1} | {CellRef 2} | {CellRef 3} Fixed Label 2 | {CellRef 4} | {CellRef 5} | {CellRef 6} I know how do to this for just one sheet by hand, but I have no clue how to make OOO do this automatically for me. Is it possible at all? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

  I want to rearrange rows with the mouse in Calc. In Excel, I select the whole row, then drag and drop it while holding SHIFT. This causes the drag and drop cursor to turn into a bar rather than cells, and the cells are inserted at the bar's position. Is there a way to accomplish the same sort of thing in Calc without going round the houses inserting columns before the drag operation?

• How to edit a read-only document in LibreOffice?

  I need to fill a form (which I received in .doc format and saved as .odt). The file is read-only except for the fields where I can enter the information. Unfortunately, with the fields filled it doesn't fit on one page, and I need to edit it so I can print and submit it. With LibreOffice beta 3, I could edit anything outside of the fields, and the fonts were slightly smaller, so it fit on the page even with the fields filled. Today I upgraded LibreOffice, and when I opened to edit a field where I had a mistake, it no longer fits on the page, and I can't edit it. When I opened the properties it says that the document is NOT read-only, but it is. When I try to delete text it tells me that I can't edit the read-only content. Can anyone give me some advice, because I've been trying to print my form for 2 hours already. I tried AbiWord and KWord, but both are missing elements from the page (though the forms fit). I can also edit the margins (Format - Page is dimmed, but when I begin to edit a field it's no longer dimmed)med

• Changing the cell range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc

  Is there any way of changing the range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc (version 3.6)? I have a set applied already to a range of cells, but there is no obvious way of changing which cells a given set of conditional formatting is applied to. I either have to copy and paste the formatting, which results in multiple entries in the conditional formatting (which makes it difficult to manage), or delete the entire thing and create a new one every single time I want to change the range of cells.   Dear all, I'm using OpenOffice as a daemon. Sometimes, when the daemon is running a long time, CPU use spikes very high and then openoffice crash. At this point, the open office applicattion don't work and the documents don't be generated. How can I restart automatically the openoffice daemon when this problem happens? Rather, I want to create a spreadsheet that contains formulas & graphs that read from this (or any other) CSV file I point it it.   I have students who, when asked for PDF, sometimes hand me an OpenOffice document or spreadsheet. file(1) can identify these documents, but I've been unable to discover how to convert them to PDF using the command line. (The man page for ooffice(1) lists an option to print a document but not to convert to PDF.) Google is unhelpful, except for giving me the uneasy feeling that this can't be done without a nifty script in a language I don't know against an API whose documentation I can't find. Can anyone help me solve the problem of converting an OpenDocument to PDF using only the Unix command line?

• Transferring slides from one computer to another and the images are lost

  I used OpenOffice Impress to make some slides for a presentation and when I try to transfer the slides to another computer the images are lost, with text displayed in their place describing the location that the images could be found. This happens when I save in odp and ppt and also when I try to upload the slides to Google Docs. Any idea what is wrong? While making the slides I just dragged and dropped the images into the presentation.

• OpenOffice Writer page style bug?

  I have a large Open Office odt document. It uses (mostly) four page styles: Left Page, Right Page, Left Chapter, and Right Chapter. The last two are custom styles that simply remove the header. But I have a problem with Chapter 4: if I try to set the style of the first page to Right Chapter, it sets the style of Chapter 3's first page! I've tried it several times, and it always does this. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug? Or is my file corrupted?

  How to get opentype fonts in .otf format working on Ubuntu and OpenOffice 3.2? It would be great if I could use opentype features in OOo, but I'll be glad enough if I could use them even converted to TTF. I've tried numerous ways described on the net, but with no success. For now, I succeeded with using OTF fonts in Inkscape. How to get it working with OOo? Any news about opentype in upcoming versions of OOo? Can you recommend any other alternative to MS Word, or better yet Adobe Indesign with good OTF support?

  I have been given 10 old eMAC computers to donate to a local primary school. I am a PC person but I have volunteered to set these up with some kind of office suite. The specs are: 700MHz G4 640MB RAM (should be enough for anyone!) OS-X 10.3 40GB hard disc with 30GB free space I'd like a recommendataion for an office suite that will work on these old boxes.   How I can easily apply a template to an existing OO Calc file? AFAIK it is possible only to make a new file from a template, copy the sheets in it, and save/overwrite the old file. But I don't like this way; there is a easier/better way to do this? Like a macro, or something like that. I just need to repeatedly apply page margins to my sheet.

• OpenOffice - make autocorrect keep the original letter case

  I use OpenOffice to write in about 5 languages, using the US keyboard only. I therefore make extensive use of the autocorrect feature to add accents and the like automatically. The problem is that OpenOffice insists on ignoring the letter case I use, and instead it always uses that which I used when setting up the autocorrect. For example, now when I type, in French, "D'apres", it gets converted to "d’après" instead of "D’après". Is there a way to tell OpenOffice not to change the letter case?

• Error 502 in OpenOfficeSpreadsheet formula

  The formula failing is the following: =IF(TIMEVALUE(C2 & ":00") > TIMEVALUE(B2 & ":00"); 0; C2-B2) I previously tried =IF(C2 > B2; 0; C2-B2) but this also gives me "Error 502". The cells it is referring to contains data in the format "12:30" (I formatted the columns with format "HH:MM"). I just want to calculate how much time lies between two times, respecting the special case where endtime < starttime.
