  • Loading non-RJS javascript via ajax in Rails

    - by David Smith
    I've written a rails module that generates some javascript for a google map. As the user makes changes on the webpage, I use observe_field to call back to the server to regenerate the map's javascript (without updating the whole page). I'm having trouble finding a good way to insert the new javascript into the page. I've tried <div id='my_div_1'>div1</div> <%= update_page_tag do |page| page.replace_html 'my_div_1', "<script>alert('hi');</script>" end %> but it seems that replace_html only works for non-script html. It chokes when the content includes the closing < /script tag. Additional information...here is a page that I think is the root of the problem. http://www.wwco.com/~wls/blog/2007/04/25/using-script-in-a-javascript-literal/

  • Struts:JSON:return multiple objects

    - by cp
    Hello Is it possible to return multiple JSON objects in the request header with Struts1? I am presently returning a single JSON objects, however the need now is to return a second data structure. All the client-side processing works perfectly for the single data structure in the single JSON objects, I really do not want to complicate it by putting two hetrogenous data structures in a single return JSON object. tia.

  • capturing click events on web-browser scrollbars

    - by The Code Pimp
    Hi, is it possible to capture a click event on a scrollbar? I have some code where i am observing the click and mousedown events on the document. However, it seems that when I click on the scrollbar, the event is not captured. This leads me to believe that the scrollbars aren't really part of the document. (Assumption :-)) Is this a correct assumption? What is the right way to do this so that the behaviour is consistent across all major browsers? sample code document.observe('click', function(evt){ //do something //blah blah blah }); Thanks

  • Minifying CSS, JS, and HTML - together

    - by Radu
    Minifying JS and CSS is quite common. The benefits of minifying JS are much greater that those seen with CSS because with CSS you can't rename elements - and same goes for HTML. But what if all 3 were minified together so that the benefits of using shorter names can be brought to CSS and HTML? That is, instead of minifying without any regard to the relationships between the 3, these could be preserved and made simpler. I imagine that the implementation could be quite difficult but if it were possible, do you think it would provide a significant advantage over traditional minification?

  • Stop observe_field from observing

    - by TenJack
    I am using the rails helper observe_field to observe a the input of a textfield: <%= observe_field :word_word, :frequency => 0.25, :function => "wordObserve('#{@word_str}')" %> When the textfield input becomes a certain value, I would like to stop observing. I have tried both Event.stop() and Event.stopObserving(element, eventName, handler) but neither seem to work. Any ideas?

  • Feedback, LiveChat or Call me Buttons - How to - Ajax

    - by user378464
    Hi - I am looking for the best technology to provide customer ways to add our functionality through buttons on their websites. I know this can be done adding button to a body and attaching a click listener but I am stumped at a point where I need to resize my iframe (UI after they click a button) and it cannot be done from internal iframe. I wanted to check how getsatisfaction, invox, zendesk and other companies offer this functionality. is there a quick tip for this? I am just looking for modus operandi and not actual code. Many thanks.

  • Rails partial gets double escaped when using link_to_function

    - by dombesz
    Hi, I have the following code. def add_resume_link(name, form) link_to_function name do |page| html = form.fields_for :resumes, @general_resume.resumes.build, :child_index => 'NEW_RECORD' do |form_parent| render :partial => 'resume_form', :locals=>{:form=>form_parent} end page << "$('resumes').insert({ bottom: '#{escape_javascript(html)}'.replace(/NEW_RECORD/g, id) });" end end And on the resume_form i have somewhere: =add_skill_link("Add Skill", form, "resume_#{id}_skills") and the function looks like: def add_skill_link(name, form, id) link_to_function name do |page| html = form.fields_for :skill_items, @general_resume.skill_items.build, :child_index => 'NEW_RECORD' do |form_parent| render :partial=>'skill_form', :locals=>{:form=>form_parent, :parent=>id} end page << "$('#{id}').insert({ bottom: '#{escape_javascript(html)}'.replace(/NEW_RECORD/g, new Date().getTime()) });" end end So basically i have a javascript code which dinamically adds a piece of html (add_resume) and contains another javascript code which dinamically adds a select box to the page. My problem is that the add_skill_link works fine if i use from the server side, i mean rendering from server side. And gets double escaped when using within the upper described way. I tried to remove the escape_javascript from the add_skill_link bit still not good. Any ideas?

  • Select next element of a given class

    - by kevinb92
    Hello, I want to hide and show some form in my page. For each form theres a link, and i want that, when i click on this link, it hide and show the nearest form of the link. My code looks like this : $$('.flagLink').each(function(s){ $(s).observe('click', function(event) { // here i want to hide and show the nearest form }); }); I've tried this : $$('.flagLink').each(function(s){ $(s).observe('click', function(event) { $(s).next('form').toggle(); }); }); It works but, i would like to be more precise like : $$('.flagLink').each(function(s){ $(s).observe('click', function(event) { $(s).next('.flagForm').toggle(); }); }); but the .flagForm selector doesnt work.

  • Are Ext JS files necessary in a working site?

    - by songdogtech
    I've inherited a high-traffic site that loads some Ext javascript files and I'm trying to trim some bandwidth usage. Are Ext libraries necessary for development only or are they required for the finished site (I've never used Ext.) The site loads ext-base.js, ext-all-debug.js, expander.js, exteditor.js. It appears that expander.js and exteditor.js have some site specific code, so they should stay? But what about ext-base.js and ext-all-debug.js? Am I reading this correctly - are base and debugging libraries necessary for a live site?

  • Always require a plugin to be loaded

    - by axon
    I am writing an application with RequireJS and Knockout JS. The application includes an extension to knockout that adds ko.protectedObservable to the main knockout object. I would like this to always be available on the require'd knockout object, and not only when I specify it in the dependencies. I could concat the files together, but that seems that it should be unnecessary. Additionally, I can put knockout-protectedObservable as a dependency for knockout in the requirejs shim configuration, but that just leads to a circular dependency and it all fails to load. Edit: I've solved me issue, but seems hacky, is there a better way? -- Main.html <script type="text/javascript" src="require.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> require(['knockout'], function(ko) { require(['knockout-protectedObservable']); }); </script> -- knockout-protectedObservable.js define(['knockout'], function(ko) { ko.protectedObservable = { ... }; });

  • Run code before class instanciation in ActionScript 3

    - by soow.fr
    I need to run code in a class declaration before its instanciation. This would be especially useful to automatically register classes in a factory. See: // Main.as public class Main extends Sprite { public function Main() : void { var o : Object = Factory.make(42); } } // Factory.as public class Factory { private static var _factory : Array = new Array(); public static function registerClass(id : uint, c : Class) : void { _factory[id] = function () : Object { return new c(); }; } public static function make(id : uint) : Object { return _factory[id](); } } // Foo.as public class Foo { // Run this code before instanciating Foo! Factory.registerClass(42, Foo); } AFAIK, the JIT machine for the ActionScript language won't let me do that since no reference to Foo is made in the Main method. The Foo class being generated, I can't (and don't want to) register the classes in Main: I'd like to register all the exported classes in a specific package (or library). Ideally, this would be done through package introspection, which doesn't exist in ActionScript 3. Do you know any fix (or other solution) to my design issue?

  • How can I run an appear effect and a fade effect in scriptaculous? I need them to run in tandam so t

    - by LeeRM
    Hi, Ive been fiddling with this for hours and hours and just cant get it right. First off my sites are already using Prototytpe and Scriptaculous, and to change would take a long time. Basically I am after achieving a slideshow effect similar to jQuery Cycle plugin. I have written most of it but cant get over this hurdle: I need the user to be able to press a control button which will skip the slide to which ever one they have picked. My problem is that if a fade / appear effect is running, then it causes an overlap. I am using queues and they are in their own scope. The problem as I see it is that the fade effect on one slide and the appear effect on the next slide are separate functions. Which means that if the user clicks the control button to move to another slide whilst the animation is inbetween fade & appear, then the next cycle will slot itself in the queue between those 2 effects. The default is to append to the end of the existing queue, which should be fine. But if the appear hasnt been added when a new fade is instantiated, then the queue messes up. I can make it so nothing happens if animation is in effect but thats not the effect I am after. I want to be able to click a slide and whatever is happening to effectively stop and the next slide appear. This is an example of what I am after: http://www.zendesk.com/ Im sorry if that doesnt make sense. Its a tough one to explain. Thanks Lee

  • Images with razor asp.net mvc inside JS

    - by sarsnake
    I need to dynamically insert an image in my JS code. In my Razor template I have: @section Includes { <script type="text/javascript"> var imgPath = "@Url.Content("~/Content/img/")"; alert(imgPath); </script> } Then in my JS I have: insertImg = ""; if (response[i].someFlag == 'Y') { insertImg = "<img src=\"" + imgPath + "/imgToInsert.gif\" width=\"6px\" height=\"10px\" />"; } But it doesn't work - it will not find the image. The image is stored in /Content/img folder... What am I doing wrong?

I would like the literal HTML content, so only HTML and no Rails I thought inner_html would work, but I get a RJS exception (TypeError: $("content").innerHtml is not a function) Does anyone know how I can get the content? Thanks!

  • How can I set breakpoints in an external JS script in Firebug

    - by Manu
    I can easily set breakpoints in embedded JS functions, but I don't see any way of accessing extarnal JS scripts via Firebug unless I happen to enter them during a debug session. Is there a way to do this w/o having to 'explore' my way into the script? @Jason: This is a good point, but in my case I do not have easy access to the script. I am specifically talking about the client scripts which are invoked by the ASP.Net Validators that I would like to debug. I can access them during a debug session through entering the function calls, but I could not find a way to access them directly.

  • form_for [@parent,@son],:remote=>true not asking for JS

    - by Cibernox
    Hi. I have a plain old form. That form is used to create new objects of a nested model. #restaurant.rb has_many :courses #courses.rb belongs_to :restaurant #routes.rb resources :restaurants do resources :courses end In my views(in haml), i have that code: %li.course{'data-random'=>random} = form_for([restaurant,course], :remote=>true) do |f| .name= f.text_field :name, :placeholder=>'Name here' .cat= f.hidden_field :category .price= f.text_field :price,:placeholder=>'Price here' .save = hidden_field_tag :random,random = f.submit "Save" I espected that form to be answered by action create of courses_controller with JS (create.js.erb), but it is submited like a normal form, and is answered with html. What am I doing wrong? This problem is similar to this but the only answer don't make sense to me. Thanks Inside

  • Is it possible to run node script from a web page as differnt user?

    - by Blame
    I'am searching for days now but could not get an answer. I would like to do the following: User connects to editor.html (Apache2 with basic http auth) User want to open a file on the server with his user/pass (same as in passwd) Node.js Script gets startet with user rights from above and user can edit file The Node Script will handly the connection via websockets and read/writes files. I think the biggest problem is that its not possible to run a node script on the server from a web page... and I don´t want to involve any php/cgi scripts... only Apache and Node.js / JS. Please also comment or answer if you know that it is really not possible... Thanks! Kodak

  • Backbone JS central model where all views can use

    - by chchrist
    I am new to backbone js and require js. I use requirejS to organize my backbone code into modules. I don't know if this has any importance to what I want though. I want to have a central model where all my views will have access to. They should be able to get and set values. I don't want to use it as each view model though. I need to keep in memory search options, user status (logged in/out) etc. Any ideas? EDIT Maybe the answer is here? Share resources across different amd modules

  • Specifying routes by subdomain in Express using vhost middleware

    - by user730569
    I'm using the vhost express/connect middleware and I'm a bit confused as to how it should be used. I want to have one set of routes apply to hosts with subdomains, and another set to apply for hosts without subdomains. In my app.js file, I have var app = express.createServer(); app.use...(middlware)... app.use(express.vhost('*.host', require('./domain_routing')("yes")); app.use(express.vhost('host', require('./domain_routing')("no")); app.use...(middlware)... app.listen(8000); and then in domain_routing.js: module.exports = function(subdomain){ var app = express.createServer(); require('./routes')(app, subdomain); return app; } and then in routes.js I plan to run sets of routes, dependent on the subdomain variable passed in is "yes" or "no". Am I on the right track or is this not how you use this middleware?

  • fastest public web app framework for quick DB apps?

    - by Steve Eisner
    I'd like to pick up a new tech for my toolbox - something for rapid prototyping of web apps. Brief requirements: public access (not hosted on my machine) - like Google's appengine, etc no tricky configuration necessary to build a simple web app host DB access (small storage provided) including some kind of SQLish query language easy front end HTML templating ability to access as a JSON service C# or Java,PHP or Python - or a fun new language to learn is OK free! An example app, very simple: render an AJAXy editable (add/delete/edit/drag) list of rich-data list items via some template language, so I can quickly mock up a UI for a client. ie. I can do most of the work client-side, but need convenient back end to handle the permanent storage. (In fact I suppose it doesn't even need HTML templating if I can directly access a DB via AJAX calls.) I realize this is a bit vague but am wondering if anyone has recommendations. A Rails host might be best for this (but probably not free) or maybe App Engine, or some other choice I'm not aware of? I've been doing everything with heavyweight servers (ASP.NET etc) for so long that I'm just not up on the latest... Thanks - I'll follow up on comments if this isn't clear enough :)
