  • How can I set up a git repository on windows, and then push to/pull from it on Mac OSX

    I'm trying to set up a Windows-based web server, but do the development work on Mac OSX. I installed freeSSHd and msysGit on the Windows server, and set up a repository where I want it. I also have git on my Mac and set up a repo there too. When I try to clone, pull from, or push to the windows repo via SSH, it gives me an error, "fatal: protocol error: bad line length character" It doesn't matter what I set the remote to in my client (Mac OSX) machine - I can point it to a folder that doesn't exist and it still gives me that error. I also tried this on a Linux box I have sitting around and it works perfectly, so it's not my Mac. I have a couple ideas: Maybe freeSSHd isn't behaving correctly (as suggested here) so I could get a different SSH server for Windows - perhaps OpenSSH Perhaps I'm typing the code that combines Mac and Windows file paths incorrectly. I tried: sudo git clone ssh://[email protected]/C:/Users/[my_username]/[remote_repo_name]/.git [destination] and sudo git clone ssh://[email protected]/C:\Users\[my_username]\[remote_repo_name]\.git [destination] I'm getting the same error with both of these. Does anybody know what's going wrong? Better yet, is there anybody out there that has managed to do what I want to do (push to and pull from a windows repository via SSH)? Thanks!

  • Mercurial central server file discrepancy (using 'diff to local')

    Newbie alert! OK, I have a working central Mercurial repository that I've been working with for several weeks. Everything has been great until I hit a really bizarre problem: my central server doesn't seem to be synced to itself? I only have one file that seems to be out-of-sync right now, but I really need to know how this happened to prevent it from happening in the future. Scenario: 1) created Mercurial repository on server using an existing project directory. The directory contained the file 'mypage.aspx'. 2) On my workstation, I cloned the central repository 3) I made an edit to mypage.aspx 4) hg commit, then hg push from my workstation to the central server 5) now if I look at mypage.aspx on the server's repository using TortoiseHg's repository explorer, I see the change history for mypage.aspx -- an initial check-in and one edit. However, when I select 'Diff to local', it shows the current version on the server's disk is the original version, not the edited version! I have not experimented with branching at all yet, so I'm sure I'm not getting a branch problem. 'hg status' on the server or client returns no pending changes. If I create a clone of the server's repository to a new location, I see the same change history as I would expect, but the file on disk doesn't contain my edit. So, to recap: Central repository = original file, but shows change in revision history (bad) Local repository 'A' = updated file, shows change in revision history (good) Local repository 'B' = original file, but shows change in revision history (bad) Help please!   • Designing an API on top with Java RMI and Rest APIs

    I'm working on the backend of a java web application. We have a document repository (Fedora Commons specifically) where we house xml files. I want to abstract the API of the repository internally so that we aren't tightly coupled to one product. I'd also like to give the flexibility of connecting to to a repository via Java RMI or REST APIs. I was hoping to get advice or resources on how to implement something like this. My thought it that I'd have some abstract repository class that had methods like getRecord, updateRecord, and deleteRecord. In the constructor I would pass the URI for the repository and the API method and port. This would allow some flexibility in the future so that if the REST api became more practical, but allow the flexibility or using RMI which could (should?) have better performance. Am I over thinking this or am I on the right path?

  • Repacked proprietary software keeps updating the same deb

    I repacked a proprietary program delivered as tar file to a deb file for having a company wide repository. I used reprepro to set up a repository and signed it. A unix timestamp is faking a versioning numbering, so I can have different (real) versions installed at the same time. Almost everything works as expected. The deb file looks like this: mysoft8.0v6_1366455181_amd64.deb Only problem on a client machine it tries to install the same deb file over and over again because it thinks its an update.   • TortoiseSVN and Subclipse icons not updating with SVN? [migrated]

    I have a repository on a network share with working directories on two separate machines. Upon making changes to my local working directory and committing them, the icons are not changing on the other developer's machine. If the Dev goes to Team Synchronize with Repository it shows the changes in the Synchronize view within Eclipse, however I was expecting the icon next to the project to change if it is not in sync with the repository. The same happens with TortoiseSVN in Windows Explorer. If we right click and check the repository for modifications it shows them, however the overlay icon on the directory is still the green check box. Am I just misinterpreting what I expect to happen, or is there a way to get these icons to change if the project is no longer in sync with the repository?

    Given a repository served over HTTP whose owner forgot to chmod +x hooks/post-update, is there a workaround for cloning it? I tried running wget --mirror url, but rather than fetching the subtree only, it tried to mirror the entire site—which I assume happened due to the parent-directory links in the autogenerated index.html resources.

  • Will git-svn send file permission changes to a SVN repository?

    I'm using git-svn in a svn environment. When i check out .sh files they do not get the +x flag. So i change that manually, but now git tells me the file has been modified. My question is: If i'd stage + commit those +x changes, will git push them to the svn server when i "git svn dcommit"? This is not what i want, i just want git to 'memorize' the +x changes locally but not to try to send file permission changes to the svn repository.

As of today I'm running this command for each file to get the revision number: hg log --template '{rev}\n' path-to-file Executing hg for each file is really time consuming. Is there a fast way to list all files in a repository with the latest revision number?
