I am trying to connect a new workstation to our wireless multifunction printer and I'm having a hell of a time getting the device to spit out an IP for me to connect to.     Is there any way I can specify an additional Applications directory. I basically want to keep the applications that come with Mac OS X in the default Applications directory, but, install all third-party software to a different directory which is in a separate partition. I want to retain all advantages of the actual Applications directory such as the one where copying files from a .dmg to the Applications folder installs software.

    Will Linux / UNIX / OS X binaries be stored in the same directories across different platform or distributions? I'm asking because I need to have access to uuidgen (stored in /usr/bin/uuidgen on my development computer) and noticed that my local Apache server does not include /usr/bin in the PATH. I know I could add /usr/bin to the path, but I want to make sure the software can be re-deployed on a number of different systems with ease. Thanks!

    Hi there. In OS X 10.6, Finder usually looks something like this: The Finder window looks like that when you double-click on most folders or drives. However, whenever I mount a Truecrypt Volume and double-click that, it looks like this: Is there any way to default to the first view option for all types of folders? I tried view options in Finder, but it didn't seem to work.

    Hello everyone, I'm attempting to install OpenBSD on a fancy new home server equipment I just bought and here is my problem. I followed this guide to create a bootable USB flash drive from an OpenBSD VM I have on my laptop but when I try to boot my laptop on it all I get is a "No OS" message (I tried two different USB keys). Does anyone know that problem (and its solution) ?

    Is there a way to adjust the scaling of items on the screen in Mac OS X so they are 1 to 1 with the real world? I.E. When I'm working with a line in illustrator that is 5 inches long, and the zoom is 100%, I'd like the actual size of the line on screen to be 5 inches. I've dug into the System Preferences but can't seem to find anything related to this. I'm using Snow Leopard on a 24" iMac

  • chroot on OSX as a different OS

    I was wondering if anyone has been able to use chroot on OSX to run another OS (ubuntu, centos). I know that they are very different, but almost everything I want to use this for wouldn't care about anything at the level of the kernel, so was hoping there would be a way to do this without using a VM. Based off my google searches, I see this question is asked, but no real answer other than "try a VM". Would really like to do this without a VM though.

    Hi so i am trying to install the commands wget and with-readline for use with Mac OS X's terminal. The configuration seems to work fine for both even though i am required to specify for the first one, host= i686-apple. When i get to the make part of the installation, the output is as follows.
