  • View scheduled recordings remotely

    - by Scott
I have one computer which is equipped with a TV tuner card. The Recorded TV folder is shared so that other computers on the network can watch recordings. Now that I am upgrading my computers to Windows 7, they have Media Center, which makes for a nicer viewing experience than a Windows Explorer folder view. I have set up Media Center on my laptop to considering the Recorded TV folder on the tuner-equipped PC as an extended library location, so now I can view all the recordings from within Media Center on the laptop. To make this experience even better, is there a way to view the list of scheduled recordings on the tuner-equipped PC from within Media Center on my laptop?

  • setting up a second monitor in centos

    - by Rob
I have CentOS installed on my laptop. I hooked up my TV via VGA and it works, just not as I'd like it to. The left side (on the tv) is cut off, like the image is justified too far left. I want it to be centered, but I also want to use a different resolution. You see, I use a netbook, and thus my laptop screen is tiny, meaning some things cant fit in the same window without scrolling. I want my TV to fix that for me.

  • How can I organize my video collection and update meta data?

    - by Pieter Breed
I have a large collection of downloaded video files containing different movies, tv shows and music videos. I have a FreeNAS box set up that uses Fuppes as a UPnP media server. My media player on Windows correctly detects this UPnP collection and can stream from it fine. However, All of my music videos, tv shows and movies are all sorted under the same 'Videos' group. I would like to seperate the different types of video files so that they can correctly go under 'Recorded TV' or whatever the case may be. Any ideas? I guess I am looking for something like an MP3Tagger but for video files?

  • make a computer recognized as a usb flash drive?

    - by user137560
Is there anyway to make a folder or a partition on a computer (Linux/windows) to act like a flash drive to other computers or devices when connected with a usb cable. For example, I have a windows 7 computer with 2 partitions c and d, then connect that computer to another computer or a smart TV using a USB cable (has to be male to male USB cable) then the other computer or TV recognizes the current computer as a usb device. Is that possible, if not is there any usb switch to connect an external hard drive or flash drive to both the computer and TV without the need to manually switch them (I know about some USB switches but they only support automatic switching with some certain types of printers, not with mass storage) Thanks in advanced! Sam

  • Program for managing multiple monitors to keep from rearranging Windows

    - by Rumel
I have a setup in use where I use up to four monitors. The problem is I generally switch around what I'm using and that messes up where all of my windows are. I'm on Windows 8 and have two graphics cards. My setup is as follows: Monitor 1: Card 1 Monitor 2: Card 1 Monitor 3: Card 2 TV 1: Card 2 I almost always have all the monitors turned on and in use. When I turn on the TV though, all of my windows get reconfigured and moved to different monitors. I don't know how to stop this. Another configuration I use is where I have Monitors 1 and 2 plus TV in use, and I have my Xbox in use on Monitor 3. When I get done with the Xbox and switch Monitor 3 over to the PC, everything is reconfigured. So is there a program out there that can help with this? I have the free version of Display Fusion in use but haven't seen settings to save monitor configurations.

  • Android inserting into SQLite JSON object

    - by Nizmon
    I'm trying to insert the below json response from a server into my sqlite DB and then read from the DB. The problem I am getting is that when I run my code it compiles fine and runs with no errors. But when trying to read from the DB I just get back what seems like an empty string so I know that the table is being created. I have the correct permissions within the manifest. I have also reference all my classes within there. {"locations": [{"locations":"Newcastle","location_id":"1"},{"locations":"London","location_id":"2"},{"locations":"Sunderland","location_id":"3"}]} Below where I use: Log.v("one", one); Log.v("two", two); below It only prints out the first set within the JSON object so Newcastle and 1. I don't get any errors at all which is stumping me. When I call the method getName within the Location class I just seem to get a blank string back! // This class creates the table as well as inserts and returns data from the sqlite DB public class Location { private DatabaseHelper mDbHelper; private SQLiteDatabase mDb; private final Context mCtx; private static final String vd_location = ("CREATE TABLE " + TABLE_VD_LOCATION + " (" + LOCATION + " TEXT," + LOCATION_ID + " TEXT " +");"); private static class DatabaseHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper { DatabaseHelper(Context context) { super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, DATABASE_VERSION); } @Override public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) { db.execSQL(vd_location); } @Override public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) { } } public Location(Context ctx) { this.mCtx = ctx; } public Location open() throws SQLException { this.mDbHelper = new DatabaseHelper(this.mCtx); this.mDb = this.mDbHelper.getWritableDatabase(); return this; } public void close() { this.mDbHelper.close(); } public void addOffer (JSONObject json){ try{ JSONArray earthquakes = json.getJSONArray("offers"); for(int i=0;i<earthquakes.length();i++){ open(); JSONObject e = earthquakes.getJSONObject(i); String one = e.getString("locations"); String two = e.getString("location_id"); Log.v("one", one); Log.v("two", two); mDb.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TABLE_VD_LOCATION + " ( locations, location_id ) " + "VALUES (?, ?)", new Object [] { e.getString("locations"), e.getString("location_id")}); close(); } }catch(Exception e){ }finally{ close(); } } public String getName(long l) throws SQLException{ String[] columns = new String[]{ LOCATION, LOCATION_ID}; Cursor c = mDb.query(TABLE_VD_LOCATION, columns, null, null, null, null, null); String result = ""; int iRow = c.getColumnIndex(LOCATION); int iName = c.getColumnIndex(LOCATION_ID); for (c.moveToFirst(); !c.isAfterLast(); c.moveToNext()){ result = result + c.getString(iRow) + " " + c.getString(iName) + " " + "\n"; } return result; } } // This code reads from the DB, this is just some very hacked together code so excuse it, it also works when used on other tables public void getData(){ boolean didItWork = true; try { Location loc = new Location(this); loc.open(); String data = loc.getName(0); loc.close(); Dialog t = new Dialog(this); t.setTitle("get" + data); t.show(); } catch (Exception e) { didItWork = false; String error = e.toString(); Dialog d = new Dialog(this); d.setTitle("Dang it!"); TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText(error); d.setContentView(tv); d.show(); } finally { if (didItWork) { Dialog d = new Dialog(this); d.setTitle("Heck Yea!"); TextView tv = new TextView(this); tv.setText("Success"); d.setContentView(tv); d.show(); //entry.close(); } } }

  • The How-To Geek Holiday Gift Guide (Geeky Stuff We Like)

    - by The Geek
Welcome to the very first How-To Geek Holiday Gift Guide, where we’ve put together a list of our absolute favorites to help you weed through all of the junk out there to pick the perfect gift for anybody. Though really, it’s just a list of the geeky stuff we want. We’ve got a whole range of items on the list, from cheaper gifts that most anybody can afford, to the really expensive stuff that we’re pretty sure nobody is giving us. Stocking Stuffers Here’s a couple of ideas for items that won’t break the bank. LED Keychain Micro-Light   Magcraft 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Cube Magnets Best little LED keychain light around. If they don’t need the penknife of the above item this is the perfect gift. I give them out by the handfuls and nobody ever says anything but good things about them. I’ve got ones that are years old and still running on the same battery.  Price: $8   Geeks cannot resist magnets. Jason bought this pack for his fridge because he was sick of big clunky magnets… these things are amazing. One tiny magnet, smaller than an Altoid mint, can practically hold a clipboard right to the fridge. Amazing. I spend more time playing with them on the counter than I do actually hanging stuff.  Price: $10 Lots of Geeky Mugs   Astronomy Powerful Green Laser Pointer There’s loads of fun, geeky mugs you can find on Amazon or anywhere else—and they are great choices for the geek who loves their coffee. You can get the Caffeine mug pictured here, or go with an Atari one, Canon Lens, or the Aperture mug based on Portal. Your choice. Price: $7   No, it’s not a light saber, but it’s nearly bright enough to be one—you can illuminate low flying clouds at night or just blind some aliens on your day off. All that for an extremely low price. Loads of fun. Price: $15       Geeky TV Shows and Books Sometimes you just want to relax and enjoy a some TV or a good book. Here’s a few choices. The IT Crowd Fourth Season   Doctor Who, Complete Fifth Series Ridiculous, funny show about nerds in the IT department, loved by almost all the geeks here at HTG. Justin even makes this required watching for new hires in his office so they’ll get his jokes. You can pre-order the fourth season, or pick up seasons one, two, or three for even cheaper. Price: $13   It doesn’t get any more nerdy than Eric’s pick, the fifth all-new series of Doctor Who, where the Daleks are hatching a new master plan from the heart of war-torn London. There’s also alien vampires, humanoid reptiles, and a lot more. Price: $52 Battlestar Galactica Complete Series   MAKE: Electronics: Learning Through Discovery Watch the epic fight to save the human race by finding the fabled planet Earth while being hunted by the robotic Cylons. You can grab the entire series on DVD or Blu-ray, or get the seasons individually. This isn’t your average sci-fi TV show. Price: $150 for Blu-ray.   Want to learn the fundamentals of electronics in a fun, hands-on way? The Make:Electronics book helps you build the circuits and learn how it all works—as if you had any more time between all that registry hacking and loading software on your new PC. Price: $21       Geeky Gadgets for the Gadget-Loving Geek Here’s a few of the items on our gadget list, though lets be honest: geeks are going to love almost any gadget, especially shiny new ones. Klipsch Image S4i Premium Noise-Isolating Headset with 3-Button Apple Control   GP2X Caanoo MAME/Console Emulator If you’re a real music geek looking for some serious quality in the headset for your iPhone or iPod, this is the pair that Alex recommends. They aren’t terribly cheap, but you can get the less expensive S3 earphones instead if you prefer. Price: $50-100   Eric says: “As an owner of an older version, I can say the GP2X is one of my favorite gadgets ever. Touted a “Retro Emulation Juggernaut,” GP2X runs Linux and may be the only open source software console available. Sounds too good to be true, but isn’t.” Price: $150 Roku XDS Streaming Player 1080p   Western Digital WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player If you do a lot of streaming over Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon’s Video on Demand, Pandora, and others, the Roku box is a great choice to get your content on your TV without paying a lot of money.  It’s also got Wireless-N built in, and it supports full 1080P HD. Price: $99   If you’ve got a home media collection sitting on a hard drive or a network server, the Western Digital box is probably the cheapest way to get that content on your TV, and it even supports Netflix streaming too. It’ll play loads of formats in full HD quality. Price: $99 Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner   Doxie, the amazing scanner for documents Trevor said: “This wonderful little scanner has become absolutely essential to me. My desk used to just be a gigantic pile of papers that I didn’t need at the moment, but couldn’t throw away ‘just in case.’ Now, every few weeks, I’ll run that paper pile through this and then happily shred the originals!” Price: $300   If you don’t scan quite as often and are looking for a budget scanner you can throw into your bag, or toss into a drawer in your desk, the Doxie scanner is a great alternative that I’ve been using for a while. It’s half the price, and while it’s not as full-featured as the Fujitsu, it might be a better choice for the very casual user. Price: $150       (Expensive) Gadgets Almost Anybody Will Love If you’re not sure that one of the more geeky presents is gonna work, here’s some gadgets that just about anybody is going to love, especially if they don’t have one already. Of course, some of these are a bit on the expensive side—but it’s a wish list, right? Amazon Kindle       The Kindle weighs less than a paperback book, the screen is amazing and easy on the eyes, and get ready for the kicker: the battery lasts at least a month. We aren’t kidding, either—it really lasts that long. If you don’t feel like spending money for books, you can use it to read PDFs, and if you want to get really geeky, you can hack it for custom screensavers. Price: $139 iPod Touch or iPad       You can’t go wrong with either of these presents—the iPod Touch can do almost everything the iPhone can do, including games, apps, and music, and it has the same Retina display as the iPhone, HD video recording, and a front-facing camera so you can use FaceTime. Price: $229+, depending on model. The iPad is a great tablet for playing games, browsing the web, or just using on your coffee table for guests. It’s well worth buying one—but if you’re buying for yourself, keep in mind that the iPad 2 is probably coming out in 3 months. Price: $500+ MacBook Air  The MacBook Air comes in 11” or 13” versions, and it’s an amazing little machine. It’s lightweight, the battery lasts nearly forever, and it resumes from sleep almost instantly. Since it uses an SSD drive instead of a hard drive, you’re barely going to notice any speed problems for general use. So if you’ve got a lot of money to blow, this is a killer gift. Price: $999 and up. Stuck with No Idea for a Present? Gift Cards! Yeah, you’re not going to win any “thoughtful present” awards with these, but you might just give somebody what they really want—the new Angry Birds HD for their iPad, Cut the Rope, or anything else they want. ITunes Gift Card   Amazon.com Gift Card Somebody in your circle getting a new iPod, iPhone, or iPad? You can get them an iTunes gift card, which they can use to buy music, games or apps. Yep, this way you can gift them a copy of Angry Birds if they don’t already have it. Or even Cut the Rope.   No clue what to get somebody on your list? Amazon gift cards let them buy pretty much anything they want, from organic weirdberries to big screen TVs. Yeah, it’s not as thoughtful as getting them a nice present, but look at the bright side: maybe they’ll get you an Amazon gift card and it’ll balance out. That’s the highlights from our lists—got anything else to add? Share your geeky gift ideas in the comments. • Bash script throws, "syntax error near unexpected token `}'" when ran

    - by Tab00
I am trying to write a script to monitor some battery statuses on a laptop running as a server. To accomplish this, I have already started to write this code: #! /bin/bash # A script to monitor battery statuses and send out email notifications #take care of looping the script for (( ; ; )) do #First, we check to see if the battery is present... if(cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state | grep 'present: *' == present: yes) { #Code to execute if battery IS present #No script needed for our application #you may add scripts to run } else { #if the battery IS NOT present, run this code sendemail -f [email protected] -t 214*******@txt.att.net -u NTA TV Alert -m "The battery from the computer is either missing, or removed. Please check ASAP." -s smtp.gmail.com -o tls=yes -xu [email protected] -xp *********** } #Second, we check into the current state of the battery if(cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state | grep 'charging state: *' == 'charging state: charging') { #Code to execute if battery is charging sendemail -f [email protected] -t 214*******@txt.att.net -u NTA TV Alert -m "The battery from the computer is charging. This MIGHT mean that something just happened" -s smtp.gmail.com -o tls=yes -xu [email protected] -xp *********** } #If it isn't charging, is it discharging? else if(cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state | grep 'charging state: *' == 'charging state: discharging') { #Code to run if the battery is discharging sendemail -f [email protected] -t 214*******@txt.att.net -u NTA TV Alert -m "The battery from the computer is discharging. This shouldn't be happening. Please check ASAP." -s smtp.gmail.com -o tls=yes -xu [email protected] -xp *********** } #If it isn't charging or discharging, is it charged? else if(cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state | grep 'charging state: *' == 'charging state: charged') { #Code to run if battery is charged } done I'm pretty sure that most of the other stuff works correctly, but I haven't been able to try it because it will not run. whenever I try and run the script, this is the error that I get: ./BatMon.sh: line 15: syntax error near unexpected token `}' ./BatMon.sh: ` }' is the error something super simple like a forgotten semicolon? Thanks -Tab00

  • Adding SSE support in Java EE 8

    - by delabassee
SSE (Server-Sent Event) is a standard mechanism used to push, over HTTP, server notifications to clients.  SSE is often compared to WebSocket as they are both supported in HTML 5 and they both provide the server a way to push information to their clients but they are different too! See here for some of the pros and cons of using one or the other. For REST application, SSE can be quite complementary as it offers an effective solution for a one-way publish-subscribe model, i.e. a REST client can 'subscribe' and get SSE based notifications from a REST endpoint. As a matter of fact, Jersey (JAX-RS Reference Implementation) already support SSE since quite some time (see the Jersey documentation for more details). There might also be some cases where one might want to use SSE directly from the Servlet API. Sending SSE notifications using the Servlet API is relatively straight forward. To give you an idea, check here for 2 SSE examples based on the Servlet 3.1 API.  We are thinking about adding SSE support in Java EE 8 but the question is where as there are several options, in the platform, where SSE could potentially be supported: the Servlet API the WebSocket API JAX-RS or even having a dedicated SSE API, and thus a dedicated JSR too! Santiago Pericas-Geertsen (JAX-RS Co-Spec Lead) conducted an initial investigation around that question. You can find the arguments for the different options and Santiago's findings here. So at this stage JAX-RS seems to be a good choice to support SSE in Java EE. This will obviously be discussed in the respective JCP Expert Groups but what is your opinion on this question?

  • Selecting a JAX-RS implementation for a new project

    - by Fernando Correia
I'm starting a new Java project which will require a RESTful API. It will be a SaaS business application serving mobile clients. I have developed one project with Java EE 6, but I'm not very familiar with the ecosystem, since most of my experience is on the Microsoft platform. Which would be a sensible choice for a JAX-RS implementation for a new project such as described? Judging by Wikipedia's list, main contenders seem to be Jersey, Apache CXF, RESTeasy and Restlet. But the Comparison of JAX-RS Implementations cited on Wikipedia is from 2008. My first impressings from their respective homepages is that: CXF aims to be a very comprehensive solution (reminds me of WCF in the Microsoft space), which makes me think it can be more complex to understand, setup and debug than what I need; Jersey is the reference implementation and might be a good choice, but it's legacy from Sun and I'm not sure how Oracle is treating it (announcements page doesn't work and last commit notice is from 4 months ago); RESTeasy is from JBoss and probably a solid option, though I'm not sure about learning curve; Restlet seems to be popular but has a lot of history, I'm not sure how up-to-date it is in the Java EE 6 world or if it carries a heavy J2EE mindset (like lots of XML configuration). What would be the merits of each of these alternatives? What about learning curve? Feature support? Tooling (e.g. NetBeans or Eclipse wizards)? What about ease of debugging and also deployment? Is any of these project more up-to-date than the others? How stable are them?

  • Canonical representation of a class object containing a list element in XML

    - by dendini
I see that most implementations of JAX-RS represent a class object containing a list of elements as follows (assume a class House containing a list of People) <houses> <house> <person> <name>Adam</name> </person> <person> <name>Blake</name> </person> </house> <house> </house> </houses> The result above is obtained for instance from Jersey 2 JAX-RS implementation, notice Jersey creates a wrapper class "houses" around each house, however strangely it doesn't create a wrapper class around each person! I don't feel this is a correct mapping of a list, in other words I'd feel more confortable with something like this: <houses> <house> <persons> <person> <name>Adam</name> </person> <person> <name>Blake</name> </person> </persons> </house> <house> </house> </houses> Is there any document explaining how an object should be correctly mapped apart from any opninion?

  • VLC Ati Radeon 6870 Ubuntu 12.04 image skewed flicker

    - by Aaron
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with ATI Radeon 6870 connected to my 40' Sharp TV. The video image is slightly jigged, like breaking a bit and slightly delayed. It just isn't smooth. The computer is very fast, like i7 with 12gb ram. I tried to run the same video with my mac laptop and on the tv with the same connection cable and it was running smoothly. i tried changing the video output in VLC to x11, increase caching, h264 skip loop filter to all, increase monitor refresh rate although it's already at 60 and it's an LCD tv. this is my xorg.conf : Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "amdcccle Layout" Screen 0 "amdcccle-Screen[3]-0" 0 0 EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "0-DFP9" Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver" Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor" Option "DPMS" "true" Option "TargetRefresh" "60" Option "Position" "0 0" Option "Rotate" "normal" Option "Disable" "false" Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "0-DFP10" Option "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver" Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor" Option "DPMS" "true" Option "PreferredMode" "1280x1024" Option "TargetRefresh" "60" Option "Position" "0 0" Option "Rotate" "normal" Option "Disable" "false" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "amdcccle-Device[3]-0" Driver "fglrx" Option "Monitor-DFP9" "0-DFP9" BusID "PCI:3:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" DefaultDepth 24 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "amdcccle-Screen[3]-0" Device "amdcccle-Device[3]-0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection

  • xmodmap modifications aren't enough - anything else I can do?

    - by Codemonkey
I'm using an Apple keyboard which has some annoyances compared to other keyboards. Namely, the Alt_L and Super_L keys are swapped, and the bar and less keys are swapped ("|" and "<"). I've written an Xmodmap file to swap the keys back: keycode 49 = less greater less greater onehalf threequarters keycode 64 = Super_L NoSymbol Super_L keycode 94 = bar section bar section brokenbar paragraph keycode 108 = Super_R NoSymbol Super_R keycode 133 = Alt_L Meta_L Alt_L Meta_L keycode 134 = Alt_R Meta_R Alt_R Meta_R I did this by identifying the keys using xev and the default modmap xmodmap -pke and swapping the keycodes. xev now identifies all my keys as correct, which is awesome! I can also use the correct keys to type the bar and less than symbols. (I followed this answer on askubuntu: How do I remap certain keys?) But it seems the change isn't very deep. For instance, the Super key is now broken in the Compiz Settings Manager. No shortcuts involving the Super key works (but the Alt key does). Also the settings dialog for Gnome Do doesn't heed the changes in xmodmap, and I can't open the Gnome Do window anymore if I use any of the remapped keys. So to summarize, everything broke. I would like a deeper way of telling Ubuntu (or any other Linux distro for that matter) which keys are which on the keyboard. Is there a way to edit the Keyboard Layout directly? I'm using the Norwegian Bokmål keyboard layout. Does it reside in a file somewhere I could edit? Any comments, previous experiences or relevant stray thoughts would be greatly appreciated - Thanks

i am having an sony E series laptop.i have an HDMI port .at this stage ,i have tested my sound card , which provides audio out on my laptop i.e i could hear songs .my laptop has two sound cards amd 5450 and an intel-hda(alsamixer shows that as s/pdif) . i decided to connect HDMI output to my new HD-TV.but, i could get only visuals on my TV,NO AUDIO OUTPUT ( HDMI cable works fine with win 7).my laptop has two sound cards.but i couldn't switch output to other card.( i don't know ,how to do that) i decided to update alsa. complied the following code in terminal. sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/alsa-daily sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install alsa-hda-dkms then, strangely no login sound, and no audio output on my laptop at all .then, started complied code from step1 sound troubleshooting procedure from offical ubuntu site.then, my speaker icon taskbar disappeared .obivously $aplay -l ,provided output as no soundcards detected . so , i implemented step 4 from that guide, it provides a output of all hardware devices in my laptop. *-multimedia UNCLAIMED description: Audio device product: Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series] vendor: Hynix Semiconductor (Hyundai Electronics) physical id: 0.1 bus info: pci@0000:01:00.1 version: 00 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm pciexpress msi bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:f0040000-f0043fff *-multimedia UNCLAIMED description: Audio device product: 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 1b bus info: pci@0000:00:1b.0 version: 05 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:f5e00000-f5e03fff that command displayed output name of the two cards . but , still i have no positive output on $aplay -l. so therfore, i think alsa couldn't detect my sound cards . is there solution to this problem? it could be better,if alsa would channel output from multiple sound cards ? how should install and configure alsa such that detects HDMI cable as soon i connect to my HD tv? is it possible to alsa and pluseaudio 2.0 to co-exist, if so how?

  • Touchpad not working after connecting hdmi cable

    - by user286632
I had installed Ubuntu 14.04 2 weeks back on my new laptop along side Windows 8. 1. And it was working fine. But yesterday after I connected Ubuntu with my TV using the HDMI cable, the cursor/ pointer stopped working. The pointer is not visible and my touchpad is not working. I connected the hdmi cable with youtube in Firefox. But only the wallpaper was visible on the TV. Also the right click menu, alt tab window, etc was also visible. But the side menu and the Firefox window was not visible. The pointer was visible on the tv and the touchpad was working, I was able to move the pointer. After I removed the HDMI cable, my cursor/pointer disappeared and my touchpad is not responding! ! I tried to restart many times, but still no luck. Its still not visible in the desktop. The pointer is visible in the login screen, but is not responding to the touchpad. I tried to login to my KDE session, there too the pointer is visible but is not responding to the touchpad. It is not moving.

  • EF Code First to SQL Azure

    - by Predrag Pejic
I am using EF Code First to create a database on local .\SQLEXPRESS. Among others. I have these 2 classes: public class Shop { public int ShopID { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a name!")] [MaxLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Name must be 25 characters or less")] public string Name { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter an address!")] [MaxLength(30, ErrorMessage = "Address must be 30 characters or less")] public string Address { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a valid city name!")] [MaxLength(30, ErrorMessage = "City name must be 30 characters or less")] public string City { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a phone number!")] [MaxLength(14, ErrorMessage = "Phone number must be 14 characters or less")] public string Phone { get; set; } [MaxLength(100, ErrorMessage = "Description must be 50 characters or less")] public string Description { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a WorkTime!")] public DateTime WorkTimeBegin { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a WorkTime!")] public DateTime WorkTimeEnd { get; set; } public DateTime? SaturdayWorkTimeBegin { get; set; } public DateTime? SaturdayWorkTimeEnd { get; set; } public DateTime? SundayWorkTimeBegin { get; set; } public DateTime? SundayWorkTimeEnd { get; set; } public int ShoppingPlaceID { get; set; } public virtual ShoppingPlace ShoppingPlace { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Category> Categories { get; set; } } public class ShoppingPlace { [Key] public int ShopingplaceID { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a name!")] [MaxLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Name must be 25 characters or less")] public string Name { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter an address!")] [MaxLength(50, ErrorMessage = "Address must be 50 characters or less")] public string Address { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a city name!")] [MaxLength(30, ErrorMessage = "City must be 30 characters or less")] public string City { get; set; } [Required(AllowEmptyStrings = false, ErrorMessage = "You must enter a valid phone number!")] [MaxLength(14, ErrorMessage = "Phone number must be 14 characters or less")] public string Phone { get; set; } public int ShoppingCenterID { get; set; } public virtual ShoppingCenter ShoppingCenter { get; set; } public virtual ICollection<Shop> Shops { get; set; } } and a method in DbContext: modelBuilder.Entity<Item>() .HasRequired(p => p.Category) .WithMany(a => a.Items) .HasForeignKey(a => a.CategoryID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<Category>() .HasRequired(a => a.Shop) .WithMany(a => a.Categories) .HasForeignKey(a => a.ShopID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<Shop>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingPlace) .WithMany(a => a.Shops) .HasForeignKey(a => a.ShoppingPlaceID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); modelBuilder.Entity<ShoppingPlace>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingCenter) .WithMany(a => a.ShoppingPlaces) .HasForeignKey(a => a.ShoppingCenterID) .WillCascadeOnDelete(false); Why I can't create Shop without creating and populating ShopingPlace. How to achieve that? EDIT: Tried with: modelBuilder.Entity<Shop>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingPlace) .WithOptionalPrincipal(); modelBuilder.Entity<ShoppingPlace>() .HasOptional(a => a.ShoppingCenter) .WithOptionalPrincipal(); and it passed, but what is the difference? And why in SQL Server i am allowed to see ShoppingPlaceID and ShoppingPlace_ShopingPlaceID when in the case of Item and Category i see only one?

But why it doesn't start?

  • How to diagnose and solve an erratic "HDCP Support Required"?

    - by Jom Orgstrom
I am playing a digital tv broadcast on Windows Media Center for Windows 7. I built this system so it works with HDCP, and in fact I have been able to watch tv and bluray before with this same computer. However, I suddenly started getting an "HDCP Support Required" error from WMC. The entire message is as follows: HDCP Support Required High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) may not be supported by the current video card. Use an HDCP-compliant display, video card, and video driver. Or, connect using an analog connection such as component or VGA. Relevant specs are: CPU: Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770 Motherboard: Asus P8H77-I Memory: 16GB DDR3-1600 Graphics: Radeon HD 7850 (Driver by AMD, version 8.982.0.0 built on 2012/07/27) Display: Acer P243w connected by HDMI Sound: Roland Quad-Capture (It complains even when I use the bundled VIA HD Audio) TV Tuner: I-O Data GV-MC7/HZ3 OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1, Windows Update enabled. All patched and up to date. As you can see, there is nothing weird or old about my setup. I am also not doing anything strange, not doing any overclocking, weird system changes and so on. One thing that does happen from time to time, is that the display goes black for a few seconds (sometimes when watching media contents, sometimes when just using photoshop or Visual Studio). This happened with my previous setup as well, so I'd be inclined to think it is a display or cable issue (apart from the BD drive, these are the only things I kept from my previous setup to this one). But being a digital transfer, as far as I know, these things either work or not. Never erratically or with decreased quality. The thing is that sometimes I can watch the TV, sometimes not. This happens with recorded programs as well, so it's not a per-program thing. Sometimes rebooting helps, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes unplugging and plugging back the HDMI connector helps, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes doing so doesn't even turn the screen back on, so I have to reboot. Unfortunately, WMC's error message is quite unhelpful. I'd like to know exactly where the problem is, so I can solve it. I don't want to buy a brand new display just to then find out it was a registry setting that was misconfigured. I've tried looking at the system event viewer, but these errors don't show up at all in there. Other people who have this problem seem to have a setup that is not HDCP compliant, so I turn to you guys here. Anybody knows how to diagnose this problem? Edit: So I got the Cyberlink Blu-ray disc advisor. I ran it and told me everything was okay, except for the Video Connection Type, which showed as "Digital (without HDCP)". I then proceeded to unplug the power cable from the monitor, plugged it in again, ran the tool again, and now it's "Digital (with HDCP)". Needless to say, I can watch my TV and recorded programs on WMP again. I'm guessing that at some point, something may be slightly wrong with the HDCP setup, and Windows decides to reset the entire content protection path (which leads to the screen blanking out). Usually the reset succeeds, but sometimes it doesn't, so Windows defaults to turning HDCP off. There's no way to turn it back on, except by doing a hard reset of the display. I really want to know what the exact error was, so I can fix it. Is it the cable? is it the display? is it the video card? the driver? Also, is there any other way to try and turn HDCP on again without having to hard reset the display? Oh, questions, questions...

  • Stack vs queue -based programming language efficiency [closed]

    - by Core Xii
Suppose there are two programming languages; one where the only form of storage is one (preferred) or two (may be required for Turing-completeness) stacks, and another where the only form of storage is a single queue, with appropriate instructions in each to manipulate their respective storage to achieve Turing-completeness. Which one can more efficiently encode complex algorithms? Such that most given algorithms take less code to implement, less time to compute and less memory to do so. Also, how do they compare to a language with a traditional array (or unbounded tape, if you will) as storage?

  • Add binding to fish that not auto executes the string?

    - by NES
How do i set up a key binding in fish, so that fish understands not to execute the bindingstring after appending it to commandline but just appending it as string to commandline. I want to set up a binding that appends | less by pressing i.e. ALT + Y. It seems that by default fish understands the command to automatically execute. I.e. When i type ls on commandline and then would press ALT + Y it only should complete the command to look like this ls | less but still not executing it. i'm trying something like this bind \ey " \| less" But fish doesn't accept my syntax

  • Referencing external javascript vs. hosting my own copy

    - by Mr. Jefferson
Say I have a web app that uses jQuery. Is it better practice to host the necessary javascript files on my own servers along with my website files, or to reference them on jQuery's CDN (example: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.7.1.min.js)? I can see pros for both sides: If it's on my servers, that's one less external dependency; if jQuery went down or changed their hosting structure or something like that, then my app breaks. But I feel like that won't happen often; there must be lots of small-time sites doing this, and the jQuery team will want to avoid breaking them. If it's on my servers, that's one less external reference that someone could call a security issue If it's referenced externally, then I don't have to worry about the bandwidth to serve the files (though I know it's not that much). If it's referenced externally and I'm deploying this web site to lots of servers that need to have their own copies of all the files, then it's one less file I have to remember to copy/update.
