• Cygwin unable to compile

  I just downloaded Cygwin, I've never used it before cause I've always used putty. Cygwin is not letting me compile; I can see the files but it just doesn't let me compile and I do not understand why, am I doing something wrong? • Encrypt pdf files with mcrypt and php

  I'm currently set up with a CentOS box that utilizes mcrypt to encrypt/decrypt data to/from the database. In my haste, I forgot that I also need a solution to encrypt files (primarily pdf, with a xls and txt file here and there). Is there a way to utilize mcrypt to encrypt pdf files? I understand the possibility of file_get_contents() with txt; is a similar solution available for other formats? Thanks!

  Batch-program launchs with 1 parameter (full path to file) program.cmd "C:\Path\To\File\Filename.txt" Now, this program consists of 1 command: echo %1 And it just prints an argument: C:\Path\To\File\Filename.txt for the upper example. But I want it to print an argument (full path) with another extension, e.g. .exe. For the upper example, I want it to print C:\Path\To\File\Filename.exe. How to make it do that?

  I'm mounting a windows share as follows: sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.178.49/public -o users,username=name,dom=domain,password=pword /mnt/nas Then I'm trying to create a simple file with some basic text: touch /mnt/nas/me.txt And get an error, however, the file is created (contains 0B of data though): touch: cannot touch ‘me.txt’: Permission denied With sudo it works flawless. How can I allow my current user to write data to the share? Is there a mount option?

• Tools to extract text from powerpoint pptx in linux?

  Any there any linux tools that will extract the text from a Powerpoint pptx file? I tried catppt but it just returns file.pptx is not OLE file or Error. abiword --to=txt file.pptx also returns an empty text file. I can open the file in libreoffice but it doesn't seem to have an "export as text" option. As a guess I also tried libreoffice --headless --convert-to txt:Text file.pptx but that doesn't even return an empty file.

  When serving files containing special characters such as "()?:" in the filename through Samba, the names get transformed into an unrecognizable format. For example, a file my_file:_(important).txt is displayed as M43J1E~0.TXT Is there a way to avoid this behavior (without renaming the files, obviously)? I'm assuming that character encoding is not to blame because several UTF-8 characters seem to work fine.

  Let's say I entered a bunch of commands one after another: rm blah.txt pwd ls cd .. cd blah pwd If I want to get "rm blah.txt" to appear again without typing the whole thing again, I can press up 6 times. But is there a faster way? Can filter my command history based on some text? Intuitively, I would like to just type in r and then press up to search through my command history for only commands that started with "r".

Command is returning a list of files.   I'm trying to redirect windows event log continuously into a file. psloglist.exe has the -w feature (that listens for new events and outputs to console) so I tried combining it with redirection into a file like so: psloglist -w > out.txt It doesn't work. As new events are logged they do not show up in the file. However, if I remove > out.txt new events do shows up in the console!

  Sometimes when I call ShowDialog on an OpenFileDialog Window in WPF, the dialog closes immediately with a return value of false. I'm calling ShowDialog in response to a button click event. [0] => [1] => Dogs [2] => Cats [3] => Birds [4] => Rabbits I checked the .txt file to make sure there wasn't any space or hidden characters in front of the first # so I'm at a loss of why this is happening other than I feel like I'm missing something terribly simple. I want the line breaks to be preserved. • Copy a file to a new directory path in DOS

  How can I copy a file using DOS commands into a directory structure that may not yet exist? I need to be able to force the creation of the directory path to the target file location if that location doesn't already exist. For example, there is already a file.txt in this location: C:\file.txt And I want to copy it to C:\example\new\path\to\copy\of\file\file.txt but at this time C:\example\ and all the subdirectories may or may not yet exist. Basically, I am looking for a "copy and create the target path if necessary" command. What would you recommend is the best way to achieve this?
