Plusieurs sites relatent ce type de config test, mais aucun ne semble décrire les problèmes pouvant survenir à l'installation, les résolutions possibles et les pièges à éviter, notamment sur la configuration d'ASMlib ou lors de la configuration du cluster par root.sh. La doc semble manquer cruellement dès qu'on rencontre un problème de configuration de Grid Infra sur VMWare, je vais tacher d'y remédier...A suivre :)

  • knife on Windows inconsistently reads ~\.ssh\knife.rb on Management Workstation

    I am implementing a new instance of (Open-source v10.12) Chef in an existing environment. Currently the environment is mostly Windows, but more Linux is being introduced. I have used Chef in a previous gig, however that was a *nix-only environment. Because this is a primarily-Windows environment, my main workstation is Windows 7 (x64), and I use Powershell as my main terminal. I created a ~\.chef directory, populated with a knife.rb and my client.pem file. When I run knife client list from ~, I get the expected results. I keep my work in Dropbox just in case my laptop should fail or be stolen. When I run knife client list from the repo directory (C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox_company\projects\chef`), I get ERROR: Your private key could not be loaded from C:/home/waldo/.chef/waldog.pem Check your configuration file and ensure that your private key is readable (Note that the path is incorrect) This is the progression as I walk up the tree towards my ~ running knife client list: C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox\_company\projects\ => Above error C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox\_company\ => Above error C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox\ => It works!   • Strange permission errors with Windows Server 2008

    I just don't know a better way to describe my issue that is driving me nuts. I am trying to establish a test domain with virtual machines on a box that has Win7 with VMwware workstation installed. The purpouse with this domain will be so that we can try and test different situations before they go into the production network. I build a VM with WinSrv2008R2 and I am using that VM as a template to make other servers for the domain by making clones of it. Now I raise a DC with one clone and a member server with another clone - I add the server to the domain. I am following a standard procedure as always (it is not my first domain). Then I make an admin account and I am adding the admin to be a member of the Domain and Enterprise Admins group. That admin is admin with full priviledges on the DC.. no problem there. But on the other server has ... somewhat half the privileges and I cant log in via RDP. I tryed with another account. Same issues. For example (with half the privileges): I can't open the Even Viewer if I go via Start - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. But I can open the Even Viewer via the server manager. You can notice this on the image below. I mean WTF??? I am going crazy, I haven't experienced anything similar in my three years of expertise. I already lost 3 days troubleshooting this. Could this be related with the cloning? Perhaps if I make fresh installs of WinSrv2008 there won't be any problems? I've had raised test domains as VMs on other occasions before, and there weren't any problems then. This is VMware Workstation 8. I've made clones before, on Workstation 7 it didn't had any problems.     I'm hoping for a high level discussion of this problem I know is quickly approaching my application. I have a server that binds on a specific port and manages TCP Sockets from my clients. I know that it is common practice to use VMWare to virtualize servers and run multiple servers at once. How can a single server design be changed to support multiple servers? Multiple servers can't bind to the same port. If I had to guess I would say a proxy server binds to the port and then sends connections off to the other servers to be handled as if it was still a single server application. I'm wondering what options there are and what are the common practices for solving this problem? Thanks in advance!

  • apt-get install does not work. Gives the same error every time E: Unable to locate package

    There is an issue, for every package that I try to install. I am using VMWare Player 3.16 & I have installed Ubuntu 12.04. The error is: E:Unable to locate package (PACKAGE NAME) Also, another problem is that there are some configuration errors. So I have to use the CLI rather than the GUI. Now if this is a network error, I'm not sure as to how to open the setting from the command prompt. Even if I get to the GUI, it might not work, as the shortcuts are not available.

    I am trying to connect to a network resource from my 10.04.4 VM (VMware Fusion) but the destination is unreachable by name. What is weird is that the name is visible in DNS: >nslookup my.name Server: 123.45.67.89 Address: 123.45.67.89#53 Non-authoritative answer: Name: my.name Address: 10.20.30.40 I can reach it (via ping) by the IP address (10.20.30.40) but not the name and I thought that was weird because the DNS clearly resolves the name. What can I do to enable access to this resource via the name?

    Cracked a Multicasting problem this evening for one of my Canadian Tweeple. They wanted to mulitcast some MSMQ messages to another machine but nothing was arriving in the listening queue. A local queue could be configured to listen to the particular IP address/port in use and messages would arrive, though. Looking at the network traffic, nothing was going onto the wire for the IP address/port pair until they looked at traffic to the VMWare adapter. The machine had a virtual machine to simulate a remote computer and when they changed the setup from NAT to Bridge, multicasting burst into life.

  • Cann't find shared folder anymore

    I use VMware Fusion under Mac, and I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7 as virtual machine. Under Ubuntu, by "shared folder", I used to manage a common folder with Mac via /mnt/hgfs/myfolder. Under Windows, I have set up so that this folder is also accessible. But today I cann't find myfolder anymore under /mnt/hgfs in Ubuntu, while it is still accessible via Windows (and Mac of cause). I tried to restart the machine, reset the sharing settings, it still does not work. Could anyone help?

  • Paraview 3.98.1 takes too long to launch

    I have been used Ubuntu 12.10 with paraview 3.14.1 to run and visualise CFD simulations (OpenFoam and Eilmer3) and the experience has been really good up to date. When I wanted to try Ubuntu 13.01, I realised paraview 3.98.1 was the version to be installed in this distribution when running sudo apt-get install paraview. I noticed it takes way too long to launch, not to mention that paraFoam always produces an error so paraFoam -bulitin has to be used instead. Does anyone know the reason why paraview 3.98.1 takes so long to load?, is it because the new version has more feautures or Ubuntu 13.04 simply can't handle it smoother? My machine is a Thinkpad W530 with 16GB RAM 1600MHz and intel i7-3720QM. I am running Ubuntu under VMware player set-up with 4GB RAM, 2 cores and Automatic vitualization. Thanks.

  • Can I virtualize a pre-installed Windows 7?

    I am considering buying a new computer with Windows 7 (64-bit) pre-installed. Would it be possible to install Ubuntu (preferably 64-bit) dual-boot on such a machine, and then, using VirtualBox / VMWare, etc. under Ubuntu, make a virtual machine that "points to" the existing Windows 7 OS (without making a copy of it)? Just to be clear... at the end of this process: I would have a machine that dual-booted both Windows 7 (64-bit) and Ubuntu (64-bit). If I choose to boot Ubuntu, I would then have the possibility of running a visualization of Windows 7 within Ubuntu. There would only be 1 copy of Windows 7 on the hard disk.

  • Sound from Ubuntu Server 10.04

    I feel like this should be a no brainer, but I just can't seem to figure it out. I am running Ubuntu Server 10.04 as a virtual machine in VMWare Fusion. I am simply trying to get there to be some sound that comes out of my laptop speakers. I have installed Alsa and MOC (followed these instructions, and it worked fine http://howto.blbosti.com/2010/03/ubuntu-server-install-alsa-sound-and-moc-music-on-console/). Especially using MOC, I can see that the song (an MP3) is playing, but I am not getting any sound out. lspci | grep audio gives me: 02:02.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq ES1371 [AudioPCI-97] (rev 02) This doesn't seem like it should be that big of a deal, but I just can't seem to make it work. Any ideas?

  • What differences should I know? I just upgraded to 13.10 from 10.10 [on hold]

    I ran Ubuntu 10.10 for a long time because I liked the menu style. The change in GUI with the upgrades drove me nuts but I finally gave in and downloaded Saucy Salamander 13.10 x64. It's a fresh install running as a virtual machine guest in VMWare Workstation 9 on a Windows 7 x64 host. Well it looks like all those icons are still there on the side which I would be OK with if there were some way to bring back my menus. I have no organized way of accessing things now, or do I? That is the purpose for this question, maybe there is some functionality I just can't find but is there. Also all my fine tuning was gone. I used to be able to change DPI but that's gone. I went ahead and installed Unity Tweak Tool via sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool but I couldn't find an icon for it after I installed it.. because again no menu. So I did a search for it and found it there. I've changed the font and which side the window buttons appear on which is good enough for now. Anyway... any suggestions you may have for me I'm game. I'm a Windows 7 user primarily but I use Ubuntu every once in a while. I really liked the old style where everything was categorized like for Applications there was Accessories, Games, Graphics, Internet, Office, Sound & Video, Wine.

Details on procedure Do note that after importing the .ova file into Virtualbox, the virtual machine is stored as a .vmdk file already, and not a .vdi file. I would like to point out some results of the procedure followed in case of any questions. This is after extracting the filesystem from the .raw file to the .rootfs/ directory mentioned in the blog. I changed the filesystem table as mentioned in the blog, then looked at the possible "kernel optimized for virtualization". However, I found that linux-image-generic was already installed. Also, when running the command dpkg-query --showformat='${Package}\n' -W 'vmware-tools*' (or dpkg-query --showformat='${Package}\n' -W '*-virtual'), no packages were found. Thus, I did not find any virtualization specific packages. I proceeded to generate the iso following the steps in the blog, and burned it to a DVD.

  • Can't access SQL Server 2008 from workstations, but can from server

    We have an app that can use mssql2k or 2k8. We've been using 2k but I decided to try 2k8 to compare. I installed in on our win2k3 server alongside mssql2k. In the ODBC applet on the server, I was able to set up access to 2k8, and it passes the test at the end successfully, whether I tell it to use Windows Authentication or an sql login. The latter is how the app always accessed mssql2k. The app works fine from the server, but when I try it on a workstation (winxpsp3), I get a window titled, "Microsoft SQL Server Login" that says: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server ERror: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Then I get the ODBC login dialog, which I can't get to login correctly (I just keep getting the same error above), even copying and pasting a password after resetting it on the server, and whether "trusted" is checked or not. "Options" is disabled. The server was straight SERVERNAME for mssql2k, but for mssql2k8 it's called SERVERNAME\mssql2008. That works on the server, why not on the workstation? (Which I'm logged in as the same person on, BTW.)
