    I tried the validation example code for web api on the latest mvc 4 download and I'm getting some errors. Does anyone have an updated example of the ValidationActionFilter class.   • Is it possible to take a half done web application that has been started using VB.NET and continue u

    A guy came to me there recently with a half done web app that has been created using VB.NET, nothing major, just a normal site. His original programmer couldn't continue so he wants me to finish it. Problem is I don't program using VB.NET nor have I any intention of learning it for a project this small. Usually I would run from something like this but I need the cash. Should I take the project and continue it using C# or just leave it. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it turn out.

  • Jython project in Eclipse can't find the xml module, but works in an identical project

    I have two projects in Eclipse with Java and Python code, using Jython. Also I'm using PyDev. One project can import and use the xml module just fine, and the other gives the error ImportError: No module named xml. As far as I can tell, all the project properties are set identically. The working project was created from scratch and the other comes from code checked out of an svn repository and put into a new project. What could be the difference? edit- Same for os, btw. It's just missing some path somewhere...

That is, I want to make a site that will work on a regular computer but also have mobile versions of the pages. Should I rewrite each page? The pages will probably have different functionality, so should I rewrite the backend code? Should it be an effectively different site with the same database?

    Are there any alternatives to web of trust for chrome and firefox. Because I found out that Wot doesn't always ask you if you want to access a dangerous site or not. While I was browsing a while ago for a curriculum vitae template. I saw this image on google that looks like one. I click it but then it brought me to a site with a red mark in Wot, and wot doesn't even bother to inform me first that the site is dangerous. Do you know of any alternatives?

  • Changing the namespace for a Web Reference in a Project to be Made Into a VS Project Template

    When I add a web reference to a project, it comes up with a default namespace of: com.wpdevs.myservice. This is the namespace I'd have expected it to use in the application. When I add the using statement to the project, I have to add: using MyProject.com.wpdevs.myservice; I'd like to find a way to eliminate having to reference the project name in the using statement. The project I'm putting together now is destined to be converted into a VS Project template and having that rather strange reference in there, or even having a per-project reference, isn't something I'd like to have in the project.

  • Desktop-like UI implementations for Java web applications?

    At work we're discussing upgrading our view layer for our web application. We're currently running an old and "modified" version of FreeMarker Classic, which is a pain to work with. One of our developers suggested using a Component UI style architecture similar to desktop style environments. Essentially, this would mean that you would build custom HTML components as Java Classes that the controller would render into the Document view. This would completely take away the need to write HTML into a view layer. The Components would generate the view layer for you. For instance, the following rendered HTML: <h1>I am a title</h1> <p>I am a paragraph.</p> Would be generated by doing something like: String titleString = "I am a title"; html.elements.Heading heading = new html.elements.Heading(Heading.H1, titleString); String paraString = "I am a paragraph."; html.elements.Paragraph paragraph = new html.elements.Paragraph(paraString); PrintWriter somePrintWriter = new PrintWriter(); Document document = new Document(); document.addElement(heading); document.addElement(paragraph); document.compose(somePrintWriter); The above code is just an example, don't critique the names or style, I just wrote it for a quick demonstration of what we may be trying to accomplish. I'm trying to determine if this has been done before in Java, and if so if there are any links I can be pointed to. I've been researching it as much as I can, but haven't found any implementations that completely remove the template layer (such as JSP or JSF). Thanks!

  • What is the XML spec for importing into Microsoft Project?

    From our existing, internal tracking system I would like to create an XML export that I can then bring into Microsoft Project 2007 to further display and manipulation. I've been unable to find a straightforward explanation of how the XML should look for this kind of import. I want to be able to create dependencies, assign resources, etc. The Excel/CSV imports don't appear to offer all these capabilities so I think XML is the better way...if I could just get a spec for it.

  • Do we need to adopt a black-box asset our project is inheriting from its predecessor?

    Our client has an eCommerce site which was developed by an in-house team, and is now showing its age. I work for a firm brought in as external contractors to build a replacement. Part of the current site is a Flash viewer applet which displays media about the product - zoom-able images, 360-degree views, movies, and so on. We need to show the same media the current site does, so we are simply reusing the viewer. The viewer is embedded on a page in the usual way, and told what media to show by means of an XML file it loads from our server, which is pretty simple for us to generate. We've got this working; it was pretty straightforward. But what else do we need to do? The thing is, as far as we're concerned, the viewer is a binary blob which is served from the client's content-distribution network. We embed it, feed it some XML, and it does its job, but we have no power over its internals. It's completely opaque to us - a black box. We can use it to do what it does, but we can't change it, so if we ever need to do something different, we're stuffed. We're building this site for the client, and when we're done, we'll hand it over for them to maintain. We won't be doing the maintenance ourselves. There's a small team within the client who are working as part of our team, and who will be the ones doing the maintenance. That team only includes one person from the team that built the old site, and it's not someone who knows the image viewer. The people who do know the image viewer are not slated to join our team when our system replaces theirs - they'll be moved to other projects. The documentation on the viewer is extremely thin, and as far as i know doesn't cover the internals at all. My worry is that if someone doesn't take some positive action, all knowledge of the internal workings of the viewer - even down to where the source code for it is - will be lost. It's possible it already has been. Is this something to worry about? If so, whose job is it to worry about it? What should they do about it once they've got worried?

The only service I've found to provide this functionality so far is VimeoPro, which I can't afford. Is there any way to do this for free in YouTube? Or, otherwise, are there any other (preferably low- or no-cost) video hosting providers that will provide a .mp4 link?

    Hello, I went through the archives here and the Wikipedia page on Project management software, but didn't find information on this type of application to manage projects: Native Windows application (don't like web-based solutions; prefer native to cross-platform) Free or affordable, ie. not an Enterprise solution Scalable from one to a few concurrent users Like MS Projet et al., a project consists in tasks which can be further divided into sub-tasks, and the whole thing is displayed in an tree list An item that has a date set (either start/due) must be displayed in a Calendar view, so it's easy to know what work must be done each day The Calendar view must somehow sync with smartphones (at least BlackBerry) At this point, the apps I know either don't provide a Calendar at all, or do but they can't sync with smartphones, which forces me to copy/paste scheduled items into Outlook so they are synced with my BlackBerry :-/ Thank you for any help.

  • Trouble with site-to-site OpenVPN & pfSense not passing traffic

    I'm trying to get an OpenVPN tunnel going on pfSense 1.2.3-RELEASE running on embedded routers. I have a local LAN 10.34.43.0/254. The remote LAN is 10.200.1.0/24. The local pfSense is configured as the client, and the remote is configured as the server. My OpenVPN tunnel is using the IP range 10.99.89.0/24 internally. There are also some additional LANs on the remote side routed through the tunnel, but the issue is not with those since my connectivity fails before that point in the chain. The tunnel comes up fine and the logs look healthy. What I find is this:- I can ping and telnet to the remote LAN and the additional remote LANs from the local pfSense box's shell. I cannot ping or telnet to any remote LANs from the local network. I cannot ping or telnet to the local network from the remote LAN or the remote pfSense box's shell. If I tcpdump the tun interfaces on both sides and ping from the local LAN, I see the packets hit the tunnel locally, but they do not appear on the remote side (nor do they appear on the remote LAN interface if I tcpdump that). If I tcpdump the tun interfaces on both sides and ping from the local pfSense shell, I see the packets hit the tunnel locally, and exit the remote side. I can also tcpdump the remote LAN interface and see them pass there too. If I tcpdump the tun interfaces on both sides and ping from the remote pfSense shell, I see the packets hit the remote tun but they do not emerge from the local one.   • Display maintenance site to requesters based on their IP address

    Hi all. I would like to set a special configuration in our apache web server. I would like to display sites to the users according to their IP addresses. We plan to upgrade our web sites. During the upgrade we'll put a maintenance site: so all the users which will connect to our web sites will get this site. There are 200 websites affected by the upgrade, so I don't want to change apache settings for each one. In order to test the upgrade i need to set apache to let only my IP address to access to asked site. If my IP address is a.b.c.d and if i ask for test.com i want to see it. but all other users, having a different IP address, should get the maintenane site even if they look for test.com. Our webserver is hosted out of the office (ovh.com france). The testers are the developers at our office and me. We can take some sites and enable them for test in which we implement IP restrictions in each website: the idea is on these websites, if the visitor's IP address is different from our office IP address we redirect this visitor to our maintenance website else we display the website. Is there a way to do this? Thank you.

    As the title says, I am seeking a project planner with automatic resource levelling. It must be free for commercial use and a bonus, but not requirement, would be MS project import/export. I like the look of Task Juggler, but it is at a stage of development hovering between v2 and v3. Anything else? Basically, I want to play "what if games" - I will determine the tasks and their effort, and the dependencies between them and then try to figure out how many staff I need. Since many of the tasks can be done in parallel, it is difficult to guess how many are needed. A PM tool with automatic resource levelling seems like a good way to find out.

    Hello everybody experts! My question is pretty simple, but I can't figure it out because I'm pretty noob with these network stuffs. I have a vpn IPsec site2site between 2 lan with different ip classes, LAN A is class C and LAN B is class A. The vpn presents the LAN A to LAN B with the 10.178.51.64/27 segment. The problem is that when I start the vpn connection I cant Ping any 10.174.0.0/24 address(LAN B remote segment) from my LAN A; I think I need some kind of static route. Could u help me out pls?     I have a windows 2008 r2 server that needs to establish a VPN connection to a remote VPN server. We're using the L2TP protocol with a pre-shared key. I initially used the New Demand Dial interface wizard. Then I went into properties on the interface and set the type of VPn to L2TP/IPSec and put the key under the advanced settings. The error I received when attempting to connect is: An error occured during connection of the interface. A Demand Dial Router attempted to connect over a port that was reserved for Remote Access Clients only.

  • Trade-offs of local vs remote development workflows for a web development team

    We currently have SVN setup on a remote development server. Developers SSH into the server and develops on their sandbox environment on the server. Each one has a virtual host pointed to their sandbox so they can preview their changes via the web browser by connecting to developer-sandbox1.domain.com. This has worked well so far because the team is small and everyone uses computers with varying specs and OSs. I've heard some web shops are using a workflow that has the developers work off of a VM on their local machine and then finally push changes to the remote server that hosts SVN. The downside to this is that everyone will need to make sure their machine is powerful enough to run both the VM and all their development tools. This would also mean creating images that mirror the server environment (we use CentOS) and have them install it into their VMs. And this would mean creating new images every time there is an update to the server environment. What are some other trade-offs? Ultimately, why did you choose one workflow over the other?
