• How can I filter then modify e-mails using IMAP?

  I have asked this question in a different post here on SO: How can a read receipt be suppressed? I have been doing some research of my own to try and solve this problem and accessing the e-mail account via IMAP seems like it is going to be a good solution. I have successfully been able to access my own Inbox and mark messages as read with no issue. I have been asked to preform the same task on an Inbox that contains over 23,000 emails. I would like to run the test on a small amount of e-mails from that inbox before letting the whole 23,000 get it. Here is the code I have been running via telnet: . LOGIN [email protected] password . SELECT Inbox . STORE 1:* flags \Seen 'this line marks all the e-mails as read So my question is how can i execute that store command on a specific group of e-mails... say emails that are going to / coming from a specific account? Is there a way to like concatenate the commands? like a FETCH then the STORE? Or is there a better way to go about getting a collection of e-mails based on certain criteria and then modifying ONLY those e-mails that can be accomplished through IMAP?

• UIImagePickerController Crash after 5 to 7 pictures - again

  OK, I know this one has been beaten to death on this forum, but I'm still having the memory problem and I have tried all the techniques on the web to get around this. I have an application that uses the UIImagePickerController to capture an image from the camera. I've tried both creating and destroying the controller for each picture, and keeping it around for the life of the app. Both are failing. The first way crashes the phone almost immediately. While the second, leaving the controller around, crashes the app after about 5 to 7 pictures. My original app used an undocumented API to get around this issue, but Apple rejected it because of this. I really need to get my app to the store. Does anyone have code showing how they got around the issue? I know there is a way because there are apps on the store using the camera, but I just can't seem to get it. Any help is greatly appreciated! I can post my code here too, if needed.

• How to find out style of NSUserNotification during run-time? Or force close an alert?

  According to "OS X Mountain Lion Release Notes" (https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#releasenotes/Cocoa/Foundation.html), "The user has ultimate control over what notifications are displayed, and the style (banner, alert, etc). There is no mechanism to override the user preferences." Even though all I want to do is "downgrade" from alert style to banner style... Fine. But can I at least find out whether a notification is of alert or banner style inside the didActivateNotification method? The reason I want to do that is to respond differently according to notification.activationType. When the alert is a banner (which is what I want), clicking its contents is the only possible action, and this both triggers didActivateNotification method and closes the notification banner. When the user chooses alert-style notifications, clicking the alert contents also generates didActivateNotification with the same value of notification.activationType, but it stays on screen instead of going away (it only goes away when the Action button is pressed). I don't want my app to trigger an action repeatedly for the same alert notification, in case the user clicks the content area of an alert notification. An alternative solution would be to force the alert notification bubble to dismiss when the user clicks its contents. Is this possible?

• PGU HTML Renderer can't render most sites

  I am trying to make a web browser using pygame. I am using PGU for html rendering. I am guessing the reason for this is that the if statement that checks the type of the input and creates the e variable didn't match anything. I added a line to print the _type variable and I got 'hidden' when i tried google and apple. Is there any way to render form items that have the type 'hidden' with PGU?

  I'm wondering about the .childNodes property, I have the code below, and for some reason I get 18 children, while 6 are HTMLInputElements as expected, and the rest are undefined. What is this about? • iPhone rotation woes

  I have been spending many frustrating hours trying to get rotations working on the iPhone version of Tunepal. Firstly, I have a tab bar controller, with a navigation controller controlling each of the views. I actually only want one of my views to be able to rotate and that is the TuneDisplay. I have a subclassed the UITabBarController and overridden theshouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation) interfaceOrientation { if (self.selectedViewController != nil) { return [self.selectedViewController shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; } else { return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } } In each of the view controllers for each of the tabs I have overridden the method and returned YES for each orientation I want to support. All well and good and everything works as it should. If I try and do a rotation on a tab that doesn’t support the rotation, nothing happens. The problem occurs if I move from a tab thats rotated to a tab that isnt supposed to support that rotation. The new tab is displayed rotated too! I have tried the unsupported setOrientation trick, but firstly it doesnt work correctly and secondly I received a warning from Apple for including it in my last build. If (as I suspect) there is no way to limit this behavior: How do I make the microphone image scale when I rotate the device? How do I make the buttons and the progress bar expand to fit the witdh of the toolbar? Also, one of the tabs that rotates ok has a table, with a search bar. The first time I rotate to the right or to the left, I get a black bar to the right of the search bar. If I subsequently rotate back and rotate again, the bar disappears! I have enabled the struts and springs things on the search bar in the interface builder and it looks like it should behave correctly. Any ideas about how to fix this? • Would there be a market for this idea (cross platform VM for iPhone OS)

  For a long time I wondered if the following idea worth a nickel or just a waste of time and energy. I am willing to start a project which will provide a kind of a VM for all iPxxx apps - so developed once for iPxxx can run on a Macbook, iMac, Linux, Android and windows (desktop and mobile). You get the idea, right? I want to do to the current iPhone SDK, the same as what Mono did to Microsoft .Net and perhaps a more complete set of implementation. I tend to believe that if overnight all apps on appstore become available on the android market as well that would be a mini revolution. Think about running iPad apps on every tablet that will come out to the market in the future. Wouldn't it be fantastic to all the developers, which from now on, can write once and sell everywhere? The main questions which I ask myself repeatedly is: "Is This Legal?" - I mean, say I have done this, would apple's lawyers will start sending me all kinds of nasty emails? I am willing to hear your opinion about this idea as well as if some of you willing and able to join forces and start this open source project.

• iTunes Connect uploading issue

  Too bad that iTunes Connect changed its behavior recently. I'm providing an update to an existing app. I submitted new binary using the Loader without problem on the first try. Then I discovered that different from before, one has to reject the binaries in order to change screenshots. Too bad that the update is in the status of "In Review". Well, I have to rejected my binaries and begin to upload new screenshots, because I don't want to display screenshots of previous version. The new screen shots are uploaded but I'm stuck in "Developer rejected" status. Meaning I cannot upload the binaries and not able to change screenshots from that time on. The following error will appear when click Save Changes in either situations. "There was an error saving changes. Please try again later or contact iTunes Connect Support at [email protected]." I checked the source of the error page and think it's this error id="lcBoxWrapperHeaderTextUpdaterContainer" action="/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wo/7.0.0.9.7.7.1.1.1.1" errorId="ajaxContainerError" I have reported iTune Connect via the "Contact us" link on this issue but not get any response back for 2 days already. Very disappointing. Did anybody experience similar issue? How did you resolve this?

• How to navigate to a UITableView position by the cell it's title using indexing

  I'm using a UITableView filled with a around 200 cells containing a title, subtitle and thumbnail image. I want to a have a selection method just like within the contact App from Apple where you can select a character from the alphabet. I'm at the point where I've drawn the selection interface (A,B,C etc), and via it's delegate I'm retrieving the respective index and title (i.e: A = 1, B = 2, C = 3 etc.). Now I want to navigate to the first cell, where the first character of the cell it's title is starting with the selected index character. • Bash script not working on a new dedicated server

  Recently I have migrated to the new dedicated server which is running on the same operating system - FreeBSD 8.2. I got a root account access and all permissions have been set properly. • Can I modify the way Windows draws the Aero UI?

  Windows 7 with Aero Glass basically looks quite nice I think. But it has some major drawbacks regarding readability: I cannot easily tell whether a window is currently active or not. I've been tweaking the colours and transparency levels a lot recently but the only safe indicator is the close button: it's red when the window is active, it's colourless otherwise. Then there's the window title text. It is always painted black, on however dark a background. Again, regardless of whether the window is active or not. I've seen WindowBlinds and the tons of available themes you can use with it. Browsing through the most popular or highest rated in several categories I was really scared. I don't want to face Terminator every day, feel like in the Jungle or be fooled that I had an Apple computer which I do not. All I want to change is to make a greater colour difference between active and inactive windows and to invert the window title text colour for dark backgrounds. (Including that visibility hack of a spray brush background.) Is there some Windows API to alter the way Windows draws its windows or does it take the years of private research from Stardock to hook into that? I mean they say it's approved by Microsoft, so I assume there's some official documentation for that, I just couldn't find any.

• Best way to import a pack or "system" of new classes??

  Here's an Advanced question for Advanced developers. So I've written a largish "subsystem". It is essentially a UIViewController called CleverViewController which is a UIViewController. Now, there are a large number of supporting classes (about ten) that do the hard work: perform math functions, image processing, purely logical functions, build images or what have you with thousands of lines of code. (To do this, I simply started a new XCode project / app "Scratchpad" which does little other than load and launch the CleverViewController. So currently it works as an app, which launches CleverViewController. The ten or so classes I mention that are part of the "subsystem" simply sit there in that project/app.) So now, we will use CleverViewController, the new technology generally, in various apps. (Or perhaps friends would want to use it, etc.) What's the best way to "do" this? Have I screwed everything up, and really it should just be ONE (pretty big) class rather than a dozen classes? (I could understand that then as I would simply add that new (big) class where needed, like adding any other class.) Do I have to make a "framework" like the Apple frameworks? (If so, what the hell are they, how do you do it, etc?!?) In fact, do you just have to lamely include all of the dozen classes and that's that (obviously perhaps putting them in a grouped subfolder). What about all the headers and so on? (Currently I just have the dozen includes in the pch file of the scratchpad project.) Shouldn't it be easy to "maintain" this "subsystem" separately and so on? I'm afraid I know nothing about this: if the answer is obvious, hit me over the head and let me know. Thank you for any info on this !

  I try to to find a solution to do View and Edit of a the item from a tablview. My application base on UITabBarController. Each of the Bar items contain a class with a a couple of UIViews. This is the first items of UITabBarController. I done Add event from Apple sample code: SimpleEKDemo. Add Event working without any problem. I tried to add View and Edit part to the code. I would able to select an items from tableView to edit the selected item. But after I tried to add code from SimpleEKDemo to my code, I realized I have to add UINavigationController to the implement. So I did. After I add that it's came to the items of UITabBarController. Also I even the Add Event didn't worked very well (I couldn't insert event name and location. but edit was working. So I need to know: 1- Is it possible to implement Edit/View without using UINavigationController. If yes please let me know a sample code. 2- If I must use UINavigationController. Because I don't need UINavigationController to become it the first page and I don't need any bar added to my application.   For J2me It strikes me as odd that you need an extra "api key" and so on. But actually, what I really want is NOT create an extra facebook application that needs to be registered on Facebook. I don't want to create any extra configuration effords necessary for the user of my application to undergo. All my user should need is his well-known login data for facebook. Everything else should be completely transparent to him. So, I thought maybe would u can do the login process, creating a request to the REST server via http. I know this would provide me with an XML. I hope that the this API will somehow automatically transform that XML into an intuitive object model that represents the facebook user data of the respective user. So, I would expect something like userData = new FacebookData(new FacebookConnection("user_name", "password")). Done. If you get, what I mean. No api key. No secret key. Just the well-known login data. Practically, the equivalent to thunderbird webmail, which allows you to access your MSN hotmail account via Thunderbird. Thunderbird webmail will automatically converts the htmls obtained from a hotmail browser login into the data structure usually passed on to a mail client. Hope you get what I mean. I was expecting the equilalent for the your API.

• when i set property(retain), one "self" = one "retain"?

  although I'm about to finish my first app, I'm still confused about the very basic memory management..I've read through many posts here and apple document, but I'm still puzzled.. For example..I'm currently doing things like this to add a label programmatically: @property (retain, nonatomic) UILabel *showTime; @sythesize showTime; showTime = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(45, 4, 200, 36)]; [self.showTime setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", time]]; [self.showTime setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:@"HelveticaRoundedLT-Bold" size:23]]; [self.showTime setTextColor:numColor]; self.showTime.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [self addSubview:self.showTime]; [showTime release]; this is my current practice, for UILabel, UIButton, UIImageView, etc... [Alloc init] it without self., coz I know this will retain twice.. but after the allocation, I put back the "self." to set the attributes.. My gut feel tells me I am doing wrong, but it works superficially and I found no memory leak in analyze and instruments.. can anyone give my advice? when I use "self." to set text and set background color, does it retain one automatically? THX so much!

• How can I automate new system provisioning with scripts under Mac OS X 10.6?

  I've been working on this for days but simply cannot find the correct references to make it work. The idea is to have a script that will baseline newly purchased Macs that comes into the company with basic stuffs like set autologin to off, create a new admin user (for remote admins to access for support, set password to unlock screensaver and etc) . Sample list for baseline that admins have to do on each new machine: Click the Login Options button Set Automatic Login: OFF Check: Show the Restart, Sleep, and Shutdown buttons Uncheck: Show input menu in login window Uncheck: Show password hints Uncheck: Use voice over in the login window Check: Show fast user switching menu as Short Name (note: this is only part of a long list to do on each machine) I've managed to find some references to make some parts work. Like autologin can be unset with: defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences com.apple.userspref.DisableAutoLogin -bool TRUE and I've kinda found ways to muscle in a new user creation (including prompts) with AppleScript and shell commands. But generally its tough finding ways to do somewhat simple things like turn on password to get out of screensaver or to allow fast user switching. References are either too limited or just no where to be seen (e.g. I can unset autologin via cli but the very next setting on the system preference "show restart, sleep and shutdown buttons" is somewhere else and I can't find any command line to make it set) Does anyone have any ideas on a list, document, reference or anything of where each setting on the system resides so that I can be pointed to make it work? or maybe sample scripts for the above example... • autoreload webpage on new release

  I have a website in PHP which is completely ajax-based. There is an index.php, but a part from it, all the other page are never rendered directly into the browser. Instead, all the post and get request are done tfrom javascript through ajax. So basically, if you go to /contact.php you will not see anything. All the pages are rendered inside index.php. So, there are a lot of people that use this page that are not very good in using the web. Asking them to "refresh" the page makes them to wonder what we are talking about. Unfortunately. The biggest issue happens when we do a new release. Especially the javascript code (but not only) can be the old one in a client's webpage as they maybe havent refreshed the page for some week (lol). S I do an svn-update and the new code is on the server. I just refresh my page and see the new features. However, the poor guys that dont really know how to make a refresh, will not see anything. I have added a big button on the page with the text "refresh". Which makes a location.reload. Hopefully this can help a few of them. But my question is: how to "force" the browser to reload itself when a new svn-version has been released? Hopefully in a simple way, without needing some node.js, javascript timer or stuff like that. It is also quite important to not refresh the page when the user is doing something with the page (maybe writing a mail in the UI, and then suddenly the page get refreshed: not so good).

• Notification 7 Days Before Payment PHP No Error Message

  So I have PHP script running on cron daily. It is suppose to check the date and send an email if it is 7 days before any payments as a reminder. I haven't used PHP in a long time so sorry if the way I did it was ridiculous or something. Thanks a lot. • iPhone SDK File Handler with iOS 4 Background Processes

  The "application:applicationDidFinishLaunchingWithOptions:" message does not get called when an application is sitting in the background in iOS 4, and I'm trying to figure out how to be notified when the application is brought back into the foreground by another application. My application registers itself as a handler for certain file types, and Safari and other supported applications allow passing the files over to my app. This works great if the app is closed before I try to use it, but fails otherwise. In my application:applicationDidFinishLaunchingWithOptions: I have: NSURL *url = (NSURL *)[launchOptions valueForKey:UIApplicationLaunchOptionsURLKey]; if([url isFileURL]) { } [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; As stated already, this works great so far for starting the app when it's not sitting in the background - but when I switch back over to Safari or Mail and try to open a new file that is supported, my application wakes up from the background and becomes active again but I can't see any "withOptions" overrides for application:applicationWillEnterForeground: or any way to identify what was passed in when it enters the foreground. What would be the appropriate way to receive these "open file notifications" when the application is in the background?

• Python: Parsing a colon delimited file with various counts of fields

  I'm trying to parse a a few files with the following format in 'clientname'.txt hostname:comp1 time: Fri Jan 28 20:00:02 GMT 2011 ip:xxx.xxx.xx.xx fs:good:45 memory:bad:78 swap:good:34 Mail:good Each section is delimited by a : but where lines 0,2,6 have 2 fields... lines 1,3-5 have 3 or more fields. (A big issue I've had trouble with is the time: line, since 20:00:02 is really a time and not 3 separate fields. I have several files like this that I need to parse. There are many more lines in some of these files with multiple fields. ... for i in clients: if os.path.isfile(rpt_path + i + rpt_ext): # if the rpt exists then do this rpt = rpt_path + i + rpt_ext l_count = 0 for line in open(rpt, "r"): s_line = line.rstrip() part = s_line.split(':') print part l_count = l_count + 1 else: # else break break First I'm checking if the file exists first, if it does then open the file and parse it (eventually) As of now I'm just printing the output (print part) to make sure it's parsing right. Honestly, the only trouble I'm having at this point is the time: field. How can I treat that line specifically different than all the others? The time field is ALWAYS the 2nd line in all of my report files.

• A self-creator: What pattern is this? php

  I have several classes that are basically interfaces to database rows. Since the class assumes that a row already exists ( __construct expects a field value ), there is a public static function that allows creation of the row and returns an instance of the class. Here's a pseudo-code example : class fruit { public $id; public function __construct( $id ) { $this->id = $id; $sql = "SELECT * FROM Fruits WHERE id = $id"; ... $this->arrFieldValues[$field] = $row[$value]; } public function __get( $var ) { return $this->arrFieldValues[$var]; } public function __set( $var, $val ) { $sql = "UPDATE fruits SET $var = $val WHERE id = $this->id"; } public static function create( $id ) { $sql = "INSERT INTO Fruits ( fruit_name ) VALUE ( '$fruit' )"; $id = mysql_insert_id(); $fruit = & new fruit($id); return $fruit; } } $obj1 = fruit::create( "apple" ); $obj2 = & new fruit( 12 ); What is this pattern called? Edit: I changed the example to one that has more database-interface functionality. For most of the time, this kind of class would be instantiated normally, through __construct(). But sometimes when you need to create a new row first, you would call create().

• Change $mailTo variable based on select input value (array)

  I have the following select list: <form action="mail.php" method="POST"> <select name="foo" id="foo"> <option value="sales">Sales</option> <option value="salesAssist">Sales Assist</option> <option value="billing">Billing</option> <option value="billingAssist">Billing Assist</option> </select> </form> I need to route the $mailTo variable depending on which option they select, Sales and Sales Assist go to [email protected], while Billing and Billing Assist go to [email protected] PHP pseudeo code! <? php $_POST['foo'] if inArray(sales, salesAssist) foo="[email protected]"; else if inArray(billing, billingAssist) foo="[email protected]"; mailTo="foo" ?> I know there is nothing correct about the above, but you can see what I am trying to do, change a variable's value based on the selected value. I don't want to do this with JS, would rather learn more PHP here. Thank you.
