  Are you looking for a way to make browsing to sites you’re not sure of in Internet Explorer a bit more secure? Here we take a quick look at how to disable third-party extensions in IE. Open up Internet Explorer and click on Tools then select Internet Options… Under Internet Properties click on the Advanced tab and under Settings scroll down and uncheck Enable third-party browser extensions and click Ok. Now restart IE and the extensions will be disabled. You can then re-enable them when you know a site can be trusted and you want to be able to use its services. This will help avoid malware when you visit a site that wants to install an extension and you’re not sure about it. • Oracle IRM video demonstration of seperating duties of document security

  One thing an Information Rights Management technology should do well is separate out three main areas of responsibility.The business process of defining and controlling the classifications to which content is secured and the definition of the roles employees, customers, partners and contractors have when accessing secured content. Allow IT to manage the server and perform the role of authorizing the creation of new classifications to meet business needs but yet once the classification has been created and handed off to the business, IT no longer plays a role on the ongoing management. Empower the business to take ownership of classifications to which their own content is secured. For example an employee who is leading an acquisition project should be responsible for defining who has access to confidential project documents. This person should be able to manage the rights users have in the classification and also be the point of contact for those wishing to gain rights. Oracle IRM has since it's creation in the late 1990's had this core model at the heart of its design. Due in part to the important seperation of rights from the documents themselves, Oracle IRM places the right functionality within the right parts of the business. For example some IRM technologies allow the end user to make decisions about what users can print, edit or save a secured document. This in practice results in a wide variety of content secured with a plethora of options that don't conform to any policy. With Oracle IRM users choose from a list of classifications to which they have been given the ability to secure information against. Their role in the classification was given to them by the business owner of the classification, yet the definition of the role resides within the realm of corporate security who own the overall business classification policies. It is this type of design and philosophy in Oracle IRM that makes it an enterprise solution that works beyond a few users and a few secured documents to hundreds of thousands of users and millions of documents. • Understanding HTTP Cookies in Indy 10 for Delphi XE2

  I have been working with Indy 10 HTTP Servers / Clients lately in Delphi XE2, and I need to make sure I'm understanding session management correctly. In the server, I have a "bucket" of sessions, which is a list of objects which each represent a unique session. I don't use username and password to authenticate users, but I rather use a unique API key which is issued to a client, and has an expiration. When a client wishes to connect to the server, it first logs in by calling the "login" command, which is a path like this: http://localhost:1234/login?APIKey=abcdefghij. The server checks this API Key against the database, and if it's valid, it creates a new session in the bucket, issues a new cookie (unique string), and sets the response cookies with Success=Y and Cookie=abcdefghij. This is where I have the question. Assuming the client end has its own method of cookie management, the client will receive this login response back from the server and automatically save the cookies as necessary. Any future request from the client to the server shall automatically send along these cookies, and the client side doesn't have to necessarily worry about setting these cookies when sending requests to the server. Right? PS - I'm asking this question here on programmers.stackexchange.com because I didn't see it fit to ask on stackoverflow.com. Sometimes they get corrupted, and you can quickly rebuild them to fix the problem. Just for some background, let’s walk through what we’re talking about. Normally, when you’re browsing around your files, you’ll see thumbnails for pictures and videos that you are viewing. These thumbnails are all generated, and stored in a cache to make browsing files faster. But sometimes… the cache gets corrupted, and we need to rebuild them. Here’s an example of what happens when it goes out of whack… Rebuilding the Windows 7 Thumbnail Cache All you have to do is open up Disk Cleanup through the start menu search box (just type in disk cleanup to find it) Just make sure that Thumbnails is checked, and then click OK to run through the cleaning process. The FCC recently announced their National Broadband Plan, which is an initiative to improve the Internet infrastructure in the United States and provide higher speeds to everyone. You’ve also undoubtedly heard the news about Google getting into the mix with their program to bring ultra high-speed fiber broadband to 50,000 users in select cities. While we wait for those programs to come into fruition, we thought it would be cool to check out what kinds of speeds you’re getting now. Test Your Internet Connection Speed There are several sites out there you can use to test your Internet speeds, but probably the best site is Speedtest.net. It’s easy to use, and allows you test download and upload speeds to and from various locations in the US and throughout the world. • Recommended Approach to Secure your ADFdi Spreadsheets

  ADF desktop integration leverages ADF security to provide access to published spreadsheets within your application. In this article I discussed a good security practice for your existing as well as any new spreadsheets that you create. ADF Desktop integration uses the adfdiRemoteServlet to process and send request back and fort from and to the ADFmodel which is allocated in the Java EE container where our application is deployed. In other words this is one of the entry points to the application server. Having said that, we need to make sure that container-based security is provided to avoid vulnerabilities. So what is needed? For existing an new ADFdi applications you need to create a Security Constraint for the ADFdi servlet on the Web.xml file of our application. Fortunately JDeveloper 11g provides a nice visual editor to do this. Open the web.xml file and go to the security category Add a new Web Resource Collection give it a meaningful name and on the URL Pattern add /adfdiRemoteServlet click on the Authorization tab and make sure the valid-users  role is selected for authorization and Voila! your application now is more secured.

• How do I stop Gimp from autolaunching on startup?

  Gimp launches every time I log into Xubuntu (v. 13.10). Gimp is not shown under Settings Manager- Sessions and startup. It does not appear in ~/.config/autostart. I immediately close Gimp in these cases, so it is not running when I shut down the session. How do I stop Gimp from autolaunching on startup? • [MINI HOW-TO] Remove a Network Computer from Windows Home Server

  One of the cool features of Windows Home Server is the ability to backup and monitor the computers on your network. If you no longer need a machine on to be monitored or backed up, here we show you how to remove it. Remove Computer from WHS The process if straight-forward and basic –Open Windows Home Server Console and click on Computers & Backup. Right-click on the computer that you no longer need and click Remove. You’ll be prompted to verify that you want to remove the machine and delete all of its backup data. Check the box I am sure I want to remove this computer then click the Remove button. That’s all there is to it! The computer and all of its backup data is removed. Remember that if you remove a computer, all of its backup data will be deleted as well. If you no longer have the computer, you probably don’t need the backed up data anyway, but you’ll want to be sure you no longer need it before removing it.   With the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa almost a week underway, the soccer fans all around the World are talking about at least 2 things. That typical vuvuzela sound and the new Jabulani ball, saying it moves unpredictably, is difficult to handle and somehow the altitude of the World Cup stadiums also seem to be a contributing factor.(Picture taken from http://www.flickr.com/photos/warrenski/4143923059/ under a Creative Commons license)Although the FIFA states that it hasn't received any official complaints, the end users don't seem to be very happy with this new ball. This brings me to a comparison with IT management and testing. When you're in a situation where you're introducing a new product, in IT terms, introducing a new application, you would like to test all possible scenarios that your end users could be using and experiencing. However, that's a very time and resource intensive process to do for every application change or update.  It's like getting ready for the big game but you have no game plan.That's why a new approach has been developed. One that's based on the 80/20 rule. Testing 80% of the application will cost about 20% of the efforts. The remaining 20% of your application will not be tested before deployment, but monitored with a real user monitoring solution immediately after deployment. These tools track all user experiences, including error messages and the performance and availability metrics from an end user perspective. All that you need to be rid of that frustration is the More Tweets! extension for Google Chrome. Before Here it is…the classic “More Button”. If you are only interested in viewing a few tweets on occasion then it is not a problem. But if you are looking at a large number of tweets on a daily basis then it can be very frustrating. Notice the last tweet from TinyHacker shown here… After After installing the extension the only thing that you will need to do is refresh your Twitter page if you had it open before-hand. Now there will be a seamless connection from page to page when you are reading through tweets. • Workflow: Operate Zones

  The Operate Zones workflow is another of the workflow documents that we introduced recently. It follows naturally after the Deploy Oracle Solaris 11 Zones workflow that I talked about last week, so I thought I'd talk about it next. This workflow is less linear than the zone deployment workflow. It's built around this image: The left side shows you the prerequisites for zone operation: you have to deploy libraries and deploy either Oracle Solaris 10 or 11 zones - whichever type you want to manage using this workflow. Once you have the zones deployed, you can begin to operate them. If you want to associate resources with the global zone, the workflow directs you to the Exploring Your Server Pools how-to, which talks about adding global zones to server pools and associating libraries and network resources with them. Otherwise, it directs you to a set of how-tos about zone management: Managing the Configuration of a Zone, which explains how to add storage, edit zone attributes, and connect zones to networks; Lifecycle Management of Zones, which explains how to halt, shut down, boot, reboot, or delete a zone; and Migrating Zones, which explains how to move a zone to a new global zone in the same server pool. Finally, it directs you to the Update Oracle Solaris workflow when you want to update your zones, and to the Monitor and Manage Incidents workflow to learn more about monitoring your assets.

• Turning on the wireless card freezes Ubuntu 12.04

  I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 for close to a year. Occasionally after booting into Gnome 3, the desktop is unresponsive to cursor clicks. The mouse cursor moves but can't open menus. Also the network icon displays a red error badge instead of the usual gray x indicating that it is off. The only way I have found to solve this is to switch to a terminal shell (Ctrl-Alt-F5), login and kill gnome-session. This is an intermittent and occasional problem. Recently I moved house and set up this computer in my new apartment. Now I have for the first time a new and more difficult problem. Switching on the wireless card (wlan0) to connect to the wifi router causes the desktop to freeze. Switching to a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-F5 doesn't work. The only solution is a hard reboot from the power switch. How can I diagnose the second, more recent problem? Is there a solution? Cheers, Ryan

• Sesame Data Browser: filtering, sorting, selecting and linking

  I have deferred the post about how Sesame is built in favor of publishing a new update.This new release offers major features such as the ability to quickly filter and sort data, select columns, and create hyperlinks to OData. Filtering, sorting, selecting In order to filter data, you just have to use the filter row, which becomes available when you click on the funnel button: You can then type some text and select an operator: The data grid will be refreshed immediately after you apply a filter. It works in the same way for sorting. Clicking on a column will immediately update the query and refresh the grid.Note that multi-column sorting is possible by using SHIFT-click: Viewing data is not enough. You can also view and copy the query string that returns that data: One more thing you can to shape data is to select which columns are displayed. Simply use the Column Chooser and you'll be done: Again, this will update the data and query string in real time: Linking to Sesame, linking to OData The other main feature of this release is the ability to create hyperlinks to Sesame. That's right, you can ask Sesame to give you a link you can display on a webpage, send in an email, or type in a chat session. You can get a link to a connection: or to a query: You'll note that you can also decide to embed Sesame in a webpage... • How do I measure performance of a virtual server?

  I've got a VPS running Ubuntu. Being a virtual server, I understand that it shares resources with unknown number of other servers, and I'm noticing that it's considerably slower than my desktop machine. Is there some tool to measure the performance of the virtual machine? I'd be curious to see some approximate measure similar to bogomips, possibly for CPU (operations/sec), memory and disk read/write speed. I'd like to be able to compare those numbers to my desktop machine. I'm not interested in the specs of the actual physical machine my VPS is running on - by doing cat /proc/cpuinfo I can see that it's a nice quad-core Xeon machine, but it doesn't matter to me. I'm basically interested in how fast a program would run in my VPS - how many CPU operations it can make in a second, how many bytes to write to RAM or to disk. I only have ssh access to the machine so the tool need to be command-line. I could write a script which, say, does some calculations in a loop for a second and counts how many loops it was able to do, or something similar to measure disk and RAM performance. But I'm sure something like this already exists.
