Hi,
I would like to copy colors between elements in the interface builder or define them using RGB values.
I.e. copy the background color of a button to another button without duplicating the button.
Or: Enter an exact RGB code using the interface builder.
Currently I can do this only programmatically but the interface builder is meant to design the GUI, so there must be such possibilities.
Thank you all in advance for your answers.
Hi,
I am trying to encrypt Configuration Information Using Protected Configuration in Visual Studio 2010.
I have the following info speicifed in the App.Config file:
<connectionStrings configProtectionProvider="TheProviderName">
<EncryptedData>
<CipherData>
<CipherValue>VALUE GOES HERE</CipherValue>
</CipherData>
</EncryptedData>
</connectionStrings>
<appSettings configProtectionProvider="TheProviderName">
<EncryptedData>
<CipherData>
<CipherValue>VALUE GOES HERE</CipherValue>
</CipherData>
</EncryptedData> </appSettings>
However, when I then go to the Settings area of the Projects Properties to view the settings in the Designer, I get prompted with the following error "An error occured while reading the App.config file. The file might be corrupted or contain invalid XML." I understand that my changes are causing the error, however, is there anyway I can bypass that the information is not read into at design view? (Of course the best way would be to make the tags be recognized by the designer, is there any way to do this?) I tried adding
<connectionStrings configProtectionProvider="TheProviderName" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">
to connectionStrings as well as to the appSettings, but with no luck, the intellisense is bypassed in the config file, but the designer still complains. I would be satisfied if the designer would not complain about this "error", which is not actually an error because Microsoft states here that it should work.
ASP.NET 2.0 provides a new feature, called protected configuration, that enables you to encrypt sensitive information in a configuration file. Although primarily designed for ASP.NET, protected configuration can also be used to encrypt configuration file sections in Windows applications. For a detailed description of the new protected configuration capabilities, see Encrypting Configuration Information Using Protected Configuration.
And yes, it does work to encrypt it and to decrypt it and use it, it is just very annoying and frustrating that the designer complains about it. Anyone who knows which xsd file that is used (if used) to verify the contents of the App.config file in the design view?
Any help appreciated.
I am implementing a design where my layer would sit between client and server, and whatever objects i get from server, i would wrap it in a transparent proxy and give to the client, that way i can keep a track of what changed in the object, so when saving it back, i would only send changed information.
I looked at castle dynamic proxy, linfu, although they can generate a proxy type, but they cant take existing objects and wrap them instead.
Wondering if its possible to do with these frameworks, or if there any other frameworks that enable this...
I have a graph structure in java, ("graph" as in "edges and nodes") and I'm attempting to serialise it. However, I get "StackOverflowException", despite significantly increasing the JVM stack size. I did some googling, and apparently this is a well known limitation of java serialisation: that it doesn't work for deeply nested object graphs such as long linked lists - it uses a stack record for each link in the chain, and it doesn't do anything clever such as a breadth-first traversal, and therefore you very quickly get a stack overflow.
The recommended solution is to customise the serialisation code by overriding readObject() and writeObject(), however this seems a little complex to me.
(It may or may not be relevant, but I'm storing a bunch of fields on each edge in the graph so I have a class JuNode which contains a member ArrayList<JuEdge> links;, i.e. there are 2 classes involved, rather than plain object references from one node to another. It shouldn't matter for the purposes of the question).
My question is threefold:
(a) why don't the implementors of Java rectify this limitation or are they already working on it? (I can't believe I'm the first person to ever want to serialise a graph in java)
(b) is there a better way? Is there some drop-in alternative to the default serialisation classes that does it in a cleverer way?
(c) if my best option is to get my hands dirty with low-level code, does someone have an example of graph serialisation java source-code that can use to learn how to do it?
Hello,
I am using the Xcode 3.1.4 that means SDK 3.1.2
The problem is that I cannot open .xcdatamodel (Core Data) file and I don't even get the Data Model option in Design Menu bar.
When ever I double click and try to open the file,
XCode gives me an error saying that it cannot find the file at (my project's path).Perhaps it was moved or deleted? , but the file exists at the same path.
Please help me out as I haven't upgraded my system to Snow Leopard so cant use SDK 3.2

In the XKCD comic 195 a design for a map of the internet address space is suggested using a hilbert curve so that items from a similar IPs will be clustered together.
Given an IP address, how would I calculate the 2D coordinates (in the range zero to one) that this IP is located on such a map?
It is just seems to be a little awkward design to tie a feature to a class instead of interface. Has anybody managed to group GridView without CollectionViewSource?
Also a bonus question here: why you have to refer to the CollectionViewSource resource through binding:
<GridView
ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource groupedData}}"
>
instead of
<GridView
ItemsSource="{StaticResource groupedData}"
>
??
I have a UserControl that exposes a System.Type property. I want to make it settable at design time, like the BindingSource's DataSource property. How can I achieve this?
How to make maintenance document for a website? I've created a site using XHTML ,CSS, jQuery etc. it's big site.
Now i have to write a maintenance document for a site for if any changes comes in future related to design, content and functionality then those things will be handled by someone else.
How and what should i keep in maintenance document.
I'm using a ToolStripContainer that contains three ToolStrips. At design time I move the ToolStrips to the positions I want them in, which is in a horizontal row across the top of the form like this:
I then close and save the Form. However, if I open the form up again the ToolStrips end up stacked up on the left side of the ToolStripContainer like this:
How can I keep the ToolStrips in the positions that I specify?
Hello all,
I am currently in the process of designing an interface for .NET software that would be consumed by COM objects - specifically, VB6.
While I have found a number of pages by Microsoft detailing how to make an COM-interoperable interface, I am currently tripping over the use of Collections in design time: I would like to be able to use a standard VB6 "Collection object" in the .NET program - for example, specify an argument as being a VB6 collection - and thus minimize the time necessary for clients to consume the interface.
Thank you in advance.
Hi All,
Let me define the problem first and why a messagequeue has been chosen. I have a datalayer that will be transactional and EXTREMELY insert heavy and rather then attempt to deal with these issues when they occur I am hoping to implement my application from the ground up with this in mind.
I have decided to tackle this problem by using the Microsoft Message Queue and perform inserts as time permits asynchronously. However I quickly ran into a problem. Certain inserts that I perform may need to be recalled (ie: retrieved) immediately (imagine this is for POS system and what happens if you need to recall the last transaction - one that still hasn’t been inserted).
The way I decided to tackle this problem is by abstracting the MessageQueue and combining it in my data access layer thereby creating the illusion of a single set of data being returned to the user of the datalayer (I have considered the other issues that occur in such a scenario (ie: essentially dirty reads and such) and have concluded for my purposes I can control these issues).
However this is where things get a little nasty... I’ve worked out how to get the messages back and such (trivial enough problem) but where I am stuck is; how do I create a generic (or at least somewhat generic) way of querying my message queue? One where I can minimize the duplication between the SQL queries and MessageQueue queries. I have considered using LINQ (but have very limited understanding of the technology) and have also attempted an implementation with Predicates which so far is pretty smelly.
Are there any patterns for such a problem that I can utilize? Am I going about this the wrong way? Does anyone have an of their own ideas about how I can tackle this problem? Does anyone even understand what I am talking about? :-)
Any and ALL input would be highly appreciated and seriously considered…
Thanks again.
Hello,
I am trying to create a web application using the MCV design pattern. For the gui part I would like to use javascript. And for the controller Java Servlets.
Now I have never really worked with javascript, so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to call a java servlet from javascript and how to get the response from the servlet.
Can anybody help me out?
Hello,
I am new to integrating graphics into iPhone apps and need some direction on integrating graphics from maya into the application flow. Does anyone out there have any advice on good books or tutorials covering the design flow for Maya - iPhone SDK?
Thanks
Hi,
does anyone have any idea how I can get started building a search engine for my asp.net mvc site using entity framework. I plan to build something like: http://www.carsguide.com.au/search/?N=4294962119++492&type=cars
there on the left there is a refine search option panel.
What's the best approach to design a model for the UI and optimized query with entity framework.
Hi everyone,
I'm working on a web project that takes the results from a survey type application, and runs them through a bunch of calculations to come up with some recommended suggestions for the user.
Now, this calculation might take a minute or so, so I'd like to be able to give the user some update on it's progress. Obviously, the quick and dirty solution would be to put up a message along the lines of "Please wait while we calculate your recommendations" with a spinning gear type graphic. (or whatever, you get the point..). Once the task completes, I'd redirect to the results page.
However, I'd like to do something a little more flashy. Maybe something along the lines of a progress bar, and even prompt the user with what's going on in the background. For example, give them a progress bar, with some text that says "Now processing suggestion 3 of 15; Multi-Vitamin"
Any suggestions on how I could set this up? One way I'm thinking of doing it is to write the progress of the calculation method to the HttpContext, and slap up an update panel and timer that would show/refresh this info. I've also checked out maybe building a web service/method, and then poll that at some interval.
Has anybody done something similar to this before? What worked for you?
Thanks again!
~Jim
Obviously, APIs have exploded over the past few years, but many of them seem poorly designed when it comes to utilizing them... I have an opportunity to design an API however I see fit, but I would like it to be easy to use for those accessing it. Of course, keeping it as simple as possible is a big help, but what are the gotchas that people have run into out there? Anything that should be avoided at all costs or implemented at all costs?
What pattern should I use for data-access in case of VS2008 generated L2s or EF DataModels? Repository-pattern or what?
As we know VS2008 generates Data-Models and DataContexts/ObjectContexts in the same file, then, how should I arrange my VS2008 assemblies in my VS2008 solution to achieve a layered design?
If I use repository pattern, how should I arrange my assemblies in the VS2008 solution (as Data-Models and Data/Object-Contexts are stored in the same file...)?
Any web/example link would be appreciated.
I'm writing a shell for a project of mine, which by design parses commands that looks like this:
COMMAND_NAME ARG1="Long Value" ARG2=123 [email protected]
My problem is that Python's command line parsing libraries (getopt and optparse) forces me to use '-' or '--' in front of the arguments. This behavior doesn't match my requirements.
Any ideas how can this be solved? Any existing library for this?
Perhaps you know the story of HTTP and HTML being developed on a NeXT computer. I am curious which platform served as the first home for these programming languages:
Ada
C
C++
C#
D
Erlang
Fortran
Haskell
Java
Javascript
Lisp
Logo
MATLAB
ML
Perl
PHP
Prolog
Python
R
Ruby
Scheme
SQL
Smalltalk
I thought it might be interesting to reflect on how the machine and operating environment lead to different design decisions. Or to see if some architecture or operating system variant was particularly fruitful for programming language development. A question for the historians among us.
Hi all, of all three choices (AIR+AJAX, +Flash, and +FLEX) I went on the AJAX route. But it seems that it can't show Flash embedded in HTML (using the traditional OBJECT tag).
Is it by design? or my fault?
hi,
I'm getting crazy with some browsers fixes to do everytime I'm doing a new website. For example, lately I've built my own Flash Video Player and I lost hours to fix some problems such as aligning it in IE and Firefox and Safari.
Would be so cool to have a intermediary layer, I could use to design my website, without taking care of all browsers fixes...
I guess I'm a dreamer
I working as an IT consultant and I am currently doing functional stuff like requirements gathering, documentations and writing test specs etc.
I kind of sick of this kind of job scope and wish to do more programming/ design / technical stuff.
Because I get more satisfaction doings the things rather than telling other to do
Anyone in the same dilemma as me and any suggestions on how to get on with working life?
