  • Force Chrome to open new pages in new window, not tab? (when opened from a program)

    Whenever I click a link from something like outlook or a program opens a web page (not when I click a link from within chrome). It opens up in Chrome since it is my default browser but if I already have a page open it will open in a new tab on that same window. I can't tell you how many times I forget about this and close the window out, accidentally losing the other tab too. Ofcourse, I can open a new chrome window and find it under recently closed tabs but I would really just prefer if they opened in their own window so I can prevent this.

  • Javascript A thank you page with user name on it

    I have a form where a user input name and other contact information. I validate the input and then redirect to a thank you page. I wanted to personalize the page by having the user name appear as part of the thank you note. I tried document.getElementById(Name1).value to retrieve the value of the Name but it it is giving Undefined. Is there a way for me to set the value of the Name1 field to another variable that I call again to include it in my text message?

  • collsion issues with quadtree [on hold]

    So i implemented a Quad tree in Java for my 2D game and everything works fine except for when i run my collision detection algorithm, which checks if a object has hit another object and which side it hit.My problem is 80% of the time the collision algorithm works but sometimes the objects just go through each other.     I'm using a tile based collision, but when the game is lagging (the lag isn't the problem) the collision fails and the player falls through tiles.     So ive got a character in a 2D game using surfaceView that I want to be able to move using a button(eventually a joystick), but my game crashes as soon as I try to move my sprite.   • Impossible to do POSTs with appengine-jruby/RoR: Reflection is not allowed

    I'm trying to build a site with RoR on Google App Engine. I'm using the google-appengine gem (http://appengine-jruby.googlecode.com) and following the instructions in (http://gist.github.com/268192). The problem is that I can't submit ANY form! I've already tried this in two diferent clean Win 7 Pro envs and the result is the same. After install Ruby 1.8.6 (One-Click Installer): 1. gem update --system 2. gem install rails 3. gem install google-appengine 4. gem install rails_dm_datastore 5. gem install activerecord-nulldb-adapter 6. curl -O http://appengine-jruby.googlecode.com/hg/demos/rails2/rails2_appengine.rb 7. ruby rails2_appengine.rb (previously downloaded) 8. rails myproj 9. chmod myproj 10. ruby script/generate dd_model MyModel f1:string f2:float f3:float f4:float f5:integer f6:integer f7:integer -f 11. ruby script/generate scaffold MyModel f1:string f2:float f3:float f4:float f5:integer f6:integer f7:integer -f --skip-migration 12. dev_appserver.rb -p 3000 . At this point, I manually test the scaffold in (http://localhost:3000/my_models). The index is OK, then I create a new registry with the generated form, everything's fine, but when I try to create a second one, I get a "java.lang.RuntimeException: DummyDynamicScope should never be used for backref storage" in the console. As far as I read this is a won't-fix behavior in JRuby 1.4.1, but it's converted to a debug only warning in 1.5.0, so I proceed to install the pre release. 13. gem install appengine-jruby-jars --pre With this, that exception is solved and everything works great... until I move the project to the GAE server. 14. ruby appcfg.rb update . And now, in (http://myproj.appspot.com/my_models), again, the index is fine, also the new form, but in the moment that I submit it with valid data, I get a 500 error: "java.lang.IllegalAccessException: Reflection is not allowed on public int". As I said, this behavior is not present in the local SDK. In both cases, I'm completely unable to post anything.   • Google Web Toolkit Deferred Binding Issue

    I developed a web app using GWT about 2 years ago, since then the application has evolved. In its current state it relies on fetching a single XML file and parsing the information from it. Overall this works great. A requirement of this app is that it needs to be able to be ran from the filesystem (file:///..) as well as the traditional model of running from a webserver (http://...) Fetching this file from a webserver works exactly as expected using a RequestBuilder object. When running the app from the filesystem Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Chrome all behave as expected. When running the app from the filesystem using IE7 or IE8 the RequestBuilder.send() call fails, the information about the error suggests that there is a problem accessing the file due to violating the same origin policy. The app worked as expected in IE6 but not in IE7 or IE8. So I looked at the source code of RequestBuilder.java and saw that the actual request was being executed with an XMLHttpRequest GWT object. So I looked at the source code for XMLHttpRequest.java and found out some information. Here is the code (starts at line 83 in XMLHttpRequest.java) public static native XMLHttpRequest create() /*-{ if ($wnd.XMLHttpRequest) { return new XMLHttpRequest(); } else { try { return new ActiveXObject('MSXML2.XMLHTTP.3.0'); } catch (e) { return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } } }-*/; So basically if an XMLHttpRequest cannot be created (like in IE6 because it is not available) an ActiveXObject is used instead. I read up a little bit more on the IE implementation of XMLHttpRequest, and it appears that it is only supported for interacting with files on a webserver. I found a setting in IE8 (Tools-Internet Options-Advanced-Security-Enable native XMLHTTP support), when I uncheck this box my app works. I assume this is because I am more of less telling IE to not use their implementation of XmlHttpRequest, so GWT just uses an ActiveXObject because it doesn't think the native XmlHttpRequest is available. This fixes the problem, but is hardly a long term solution. I can currently catch a failed send request and verify that it was trying to fetch the XML file from the filesystem using normal GWT. What I would like to do in this case is catch the IE7 and IE8 case and have them use a ActiveXObject instead of a native XmlHttpRequest object. There was a posting on the GWT google group that had a supposed solution for this problem (link). Looking at it I can tell that it was created for an older version of GWT. I am using the latest release and think that this is more or less what I would like to do (use GWT deferred binding to detect a specific browser type and run my own implementation of XMLHttpRequest.java in place of the built in GWT implementation). Does anyone have any idea of what I am doing wrong? Should I not do this via deferred binding and just use native javascript when I catch the fail case instead?     Hi, I have a problem that has been bugging me all day. In my code I have the following: private int rowCount { get { return (int)ViewState["rowCount"]; } set { ViewState["rowCount"] = value; } } and a button event protected void addRow_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { rowCount = rowCount + 1; } Then on Page_Load I read that value and create controls accordingly. I understand the button event fires AFTER the Page_Load fires so the value isn't updated until the next postback. Real nightmare.     Hello! I’am using Google Map’s GClientGeocoder for reversing map coordinates into string address. Exactly as shown in google’s example here http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?exp=maps#geocoding_reverse But, I would like to extract LocalityName (place.AddressDetails.Country.AdministrativeArea.Locality.LocalityName) from place.address. The straight way will be join all AddressDetails elements, excluding LocalityName. However order of the structure elements in final string representation is depends from geographical location. For example: Order for Australia city: ThoroughfareName + “, ” + LocalityName + “ ” + AdministrativeAreaName + “ ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + CountryName Order for Russian city: CountryName + “, ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + LocalityName + “, ” +ThoroughfareName Moreover PostalCodeNumber was not supplied in AddressDetails for the last example.   • Implementing google dashboard type interface in asp.net

    I'm looking at implementing a Google IG type dashboard in a .net app. There are a number of options I've found to do this, and i'm trying to establish what is going to be the best to use, in terms of speed, versatility etc. So far the options I am looking at are either to use asp.net webparts and .net Ajax, this would make it quicker to build, but I'm concerned this is going to make the application bulky and slow, or using JQuery, and either .net MVC or Webforms, to custom build an interface. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best option may be, or any options I may have missed? All I want to do here is to allow users to customise a dashboard with a number of components (which will be user controls). I do also have access to Telerik controls, but I'm not sure if they would be any use here.

  • Is there a JS diff library against htmlstring just like google-diff-match-patch on plain text?

    Currently I am using google-diff-match-patch to implement a real-time editing tool, which can synchronize texts between multiple users. Everything works great when operations are only plain texts, each user's operation(add/delete texts) could be diff-ed out by comparing to old text snapshot with the helper of google-diff. But when rich format texts(like bold/italic) are involved, google-diff not working well when comparing the htmlstring. The occurrence of character of < and > messed up the diff results, especially when bold/italic format are embedded within each other. Could anyone suggest a similar library like google-diff to diff htmlstrings? Or any suggestions can get my problem fixed with google-diff? I understood google-diff is designed for plain text, but really didn't find a better library than it so far, so it also works if a doable enhancement to google-diff can help. Thanks for any comments.     Google Spreadsheets currently does not support the standard function TDIST - i.e. the Student's t-distribution. This function is critical for calculating p-values. It seems that this is related to the fact that no integral-using functions (AFAICT) are implemented either. However, Google Docs allows people to add and publish their own scripts, in JavaScript. So ideally we should have something like: function tdist(t_value, degrees_of_freedom, two_tailed [defaults true]) {...} Anyone know of either an extant implementation of this (my google-fu has not turned up one, but may be weaker than yours) or a good idea for how to do it? I'd like to publish this together with some other useful functions that are currently calculable but a bit of a pain (like Student's t-test itself). Thanks!

    I need a "find nearest location" on our website. Where visitor enters their zip/postal code, then they are redirected to specific webpage for our nearest location. We have forty USA and Canada locations. How can I build something like this? Could I do this with the Google Maps API? I already have a custom map on Google Maps. It's plotted with our locations. It would be nice to send Google Maps a command to say "what's our nearest location at __ zip code". Any suggestions?

More detail I don't know if it is relevant, but rather than a version number, my original dependency for DataNucleus contained a variable.     Hello, I have a Rails app where I set a set a session variable the moment a user lands on my site with the referer and the page they hit. Additionally, I have Google Optimizer sending traffic from my homepage to various landing pages. The problem is that I think Google Optimizer is sending users away before the cookie is set. Is that even possible? I believe that the cookie is set from the HTTP Header, which must have fully loaded before Google's Javascript has even loaded. Thanks, Jason

    Hi, Since today I am facing a tricky issue with Google Chrome that I've just updated to v5. I have a user login process running on my website. Everything works fine on FF 3.6.x and IE 7, but I just can't set any cookie in Google Chrome 5. I'm mentioning 5 because it worked very well before on v4.     I am using the jQuery Cookie plugin (download and demo and source code with comments) to set and read a cookie. I'm developing the page on my local machine. The following code will successfully set a cookie in FireFox 3, IE 7, and Safari (PC). But if the browser is Google Chrome AND the page is a local file, it does not work. $.cookie("nameofcookie", cookievalue, {path: "/", expires: 30}); What I know: The plugin's demo works with Chrome. If I put my code on a web server (address starting with http://), it works with Chrome. So the cookie fails only for Google Chrome on local files. Possible causes: Google Chrome doesn't accept cookies from web pages on the hard drive (paths like file:///C:/websites/foo.html) Something in the plugin implentation causes Chrome to reject such cookies Can anyone confirm this and identify the root cause?
