• Compressing large text data before storing into db?

  Hello, I have application which retrieves many large log files from a system LAN. Currently I put all log files on Postgresql, the table has a column type TEXT and I don't plan any search on this text column because I use another external process which nightly retrieves all files and scans for sensitive pattern. So the column value could be also a BLOB or a CLOB, but now my question is the following, the database has already its compression system, but could I improve this compression manually like with common compressor utilities? And above all WHAT IF I manually pre-compress the large file and then I put as binary into the data table, is it unuseful as database system provides its internal compression?

• In Oracle 10g, how do I see tables in schemes other than system

  In the hr schema there's a table emloyees, I can query data from it specifying it implicitly SELECT count(*) FROM hr.employees while logged in as system, but when I navigate to Home-Object Browser in the browser I can't see the table employees and other tables in other schemas. Can I manage tables in schemas other than system while logged in as system? Maybe there's some setting which enables me to group tables by schema. My Oracle Database version is 10.2.0.1 Express Edition. IIRC I could see all tables in Oracle Database 10.1.x.y. Thanks.

  hiya, i have the following code but when i try and create a new IQuerable i get an error that the interface cannot be implemented, if i take away the new i get a not implemented exception, have had to jump back and work on some old ASP classic sites for past month and for the life of me i can not wake my brain up into C# mode. • Parsing xml file that comes in as one object per line

  I haven't been here in so long, I forgot my prior account! Anyways, I am working on parsing an xml document that comes in ugly. It is for banking statements. Each line is a <statement>all tags</statement>. Now, what I need to do is read this file in, and parse the XML document at the same time, while formatting it more human readable too. I need to check every single tag in transaction elements, and if a tag is missing that could be there, I have to fill it in. Our designer software will default prior values in if a tag is possible, and the current objects does not have. It defaults in the value of a prior one that was not Null. "I know, and they swear up and down it is not a bug... ok?" So, that is also taking about 5 to 10 minutes. I need to break all this down, and find a faster method for working with the initial XML. This is a preprocess action, and cannot take that long if not necessary. It just seems redundant. Is there a better way to parse the XML, or is this the best I can do? I parse the XML, write to a temp file, and then read that file in, to the output file inserting the missing tags. 2 IO runs for one process. Yuck.

I have three tables : ( EAV model style) 1: Items ( ItemId, ItemName) 2: Fields (FieldId, FieldName) 3: Field Values ( ItemID, FieldId, Value) Can you tell me how to write SINGLE query to get starting 20 records from ALL items where FieldId=4 is equal to TRUE. Expected Result : Columns = ItemID | Name | Field1 | Field2 | Field3 Each Row= ItemId | ItemName| Value1 | Value2 | Value3 Important concerns : 1: Number of fields per item are not known 2: I need one to write ONE query. 3: Query will be running on 100K records, so performance is concern. 4: I am using MySQL 5.0, so need solution for MYSQL Should I denormalize the tables if above query is not possible at all ? Any advice ?

The relationship is from DataEntered to Model (No To Many-relathionship) and no inverse relation. • Touching an object in a tweened animation?

  I'm having trouble porting a simple game I developed for the iPhone over to Android. The game has an animated ball which moves from Point A to Point B. The user must touch the ball before it reaches point B or lose the game. This was easy to implement on the iPhone using Core Animation since I could locate the current position of the ball by accessing its animation layer. In Android, I attempted to recreate the game using tweened animation and represented the ball as a Drawable. My issue is that I can't determine if the user is touching the spot because the Drawable apparently bounds do not update as the ball visually moves - making the program think the ball is always in its original position. While searching these forums I saw an Android team dev. confirm that you can't get the current location in a tweened animation but offered no solution for a workaround. Can I accomplish this on the Android using my current approach? If not, what approach should I use? Best regards, Michael

  This seems like it should be easy, but I can't seem to figure it out. All of my google searches lead me to linking to databases which isn't what I want to do. I'm a complete web development newb. I've roughly followed the NerdDinner tutorial in creating my web app. One of my stored fields is a web address. On the Index and Details pages, when I display the info from my record, I want the web address to be a clickable link to the website. • Error in R for missing object

  I have several nested functions, some of which as called in lapply clauses. In the process, sometimes I don't set a default for a parameter and instead check if it was supplied using the missing function. I'm getting a strange error right now when I'm not passing a value for a parameter, it has no default, yet missing resolves to FALSE. And when I try to use or check the parameter in any other way (using length, exists, etc.), I get an error: Error in try(length(x)) : argument "data" is missing, with no default Has anyone experienced this failure of the missing function before?

I need to get all the records from the details table plus the LAST record from the master table (last by the date in the master table). How might I go about removing the setter on the class variable var? I've tried using something like B.send("unset_method", "var="), but that doesn't work (nor does remove_method, or overwriting that method with a var= method that doesn't do anything). Any ideas?

• "Access is denied" error on accessing iframe document object

  For posting AJAX forms in a form with many parameters, I am using a solution of creating an iframe, posting the form to it by POST, and then accessing the iframe's content. specifically, I am accessing the content like this: $("some_iframe_id").get(0).contentWindow.document I tested it and it worked. On some of the pages, I started getting an "Access is denied" error. As far as I know, this shouldn't happen if the iframe is served from the same domain. I'm pretty sure it was working before. Anybody have a clue? If I'm not being clear enough: I'm posting to the same domain. So this is not a cross-domain request. I am testing on IE only. P.S. I can't use simple ajax POST queries (don't ask...)
