• I want to version control my entire slice

  I'm renting a slice (i.e., a VPS) from Slicehost. I've a spent a day or two filling up /usr with my favorite packages, /etc with configs and init scripts, and so on. Now I want to: save this whole setup somewhere (e.g., to load onto another machine). see what changes I've made to which files revert changes, tag revisions, and all that other good version control stuff Saving a disk image gives me (1), but not (2) and (3). Using Subversion (svn import / svn://someotherhost) might give me all three, but I expect problems if I actually try to check a project out into / and maintain .svn directories in root-owned areas. And to load my setup onto a fresh slice, I'd need to install an svn client on it first. Is there a good way to do what I want to do?

  In inetmgr you can set the property I desire by going to Home Directory - Application Settings - Execute Permissions - and setting the drop down to 'Scripts Only'. I'm trying to replicate this behavior in Powershell. The Target OS is Windows Server 2003 running IIS6. Currently I have this simple code to get the site: $Site = get-wmiobject -Namespace root\MicrosoftIISv2 -query ('select * from IISWebServerSetting where ServerComment="mySite"') There are lots of properties it might be but nothing really leaps out. I've tried changing the setting in inetmgr and dumping the properties out before and after, but I see no differences (it could be a child property though). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Raw socket sendto() failure in OS X

  When I open a raw socket is OS X, construct my own udp packet (headers and data), and call sendto(), I get the error "Invalid Argument". Here is a sample program "rawudp.c" from the web site http://www.tenouk.com/Module43a.html that demonstrates this problem. The program (after adding string and stdlib #includes) runs under Fedora 10 but fails with "Invalid Argument" under OS X. Can anyone suggest why this fails in OS X? I have looked and looked and looked at the sendto() call, but all the parameters look good. I'm running the code as root, etc. Is there perhaps a kernel setting that prevents even uid 0 executables from sending packets through raw sockets in OS X Snow Leopard? Thanks.

• run two apache servers on one computer

  I would like to run two XAMPP apache servers and mysql on one Windows computer. My first idea was to run one under directory XAMPP, the other under XAMPP_B. Why you ask? I have two applications that have to be in the "root" directory of localhost. Both servers do not have to be active at same time, so I don't think I will have any conflicts I will have to modify my.cnf in mySQL httpd.conf, apache_start and maybe other config files as well. Or maybe someone can suggest a better way...

I have the folder part working perfectly and the deny from all rule is working as well - but my attempt to allow access to index.php is failing. Basically could someone tell me how to get it working?

• Memory leak with preg_replace

  I'm using the preg_replace function to replace accents in a string, I'm working with UTF-8. I have incurred in what seems to be a memory leak, but I can't isolate the root cause, my code is rather simple: preg_replace( array_keys($aToNoAccents), array_values($aToNoAccents), $sText ); where $aToNoAccents is an associative array with entries like '~[A]~u' => 'A', '~[C]~u' => 'C',. My script prints this error for the above line: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 1073741824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3039 bytes) Obviously it's not a matter of increasing the allowed memory for PHP, (a 1Gb footprint is way off the scale of my application). Also, that line is executed thousands of times without problems but, just for some cases which are difficult to reproduce, it yields the error. Is anyone aware of memory problems with preg_replace and UTF-8 strings? Am I to use special care in passing actual parameters to such function? I'm using PHP 5.2.6-3 with Suhosin-Patch thanks Silvio

• Gaining information from nodes of tree

  I am working with the tree data structure and trying to come up with a way to calculate information I can gain from the nodes of the tree. I am wondering if there are any existing techniques which can assign higher numerical importance to a node which appears less frequently at lower level (Distance from the root of the tree) than the same nodes appearance at higher level and high frequency. To give an example, I want to give more significance to node Book, at level 2 appearing once, then at level 3 appearing thrice.   I'm very new to RTMP streaming and am seeking help. Just enough to get me started. I have been Googling for about 5-7 hours now and still cannot determine my answer! The documentation of Red5 is limited and cannot find any support at all! Even similar questions to mine are unanswered on stackoverflow :( My questions are: Why can't I simply place an .mp3 inside red5's server root and play it? To serve a simple MP3 file over RTMP. Do I need to write a Java application? If so, any pointers? To make matters worse, I have little to none Java experience. Please help ST.

  my config file below: very strange, i have spent a day to find out where i am wrong, but still not working, it still not log anything in the database,but i can output them using RollingFileAppender. Also, the store procedure WriteLog is working well.(I have tested it using sql server studio). I have tried to change the connectionType but not working. • Stream a file to the HTTP response in Pylons

  I have a Pylons controller action that needs to return a file to the client. (The file is outside the web root, so I can't just link directly to it.) The simplest way is, of course, this: with open(filepath, 'rb') as f: response.write(f.read()) That works, but it's obviously inefficient for large files. What's the best way to do this? I haven't been able to find any convenient methods in Pylons to stream the contents of the file. Do I really have to write the code to read a chunk at a time myself from scratch?

  Hi guys, I've been trying to do the following with mod_rewrite on the server there is a file about.htm (which is found in the root directory of the domain) I need to redirect about.htm to about/ On the server still keep about.htm, hence when about/ is called, it actually loads up about.htm I tried something like this: RewriteRule ^about/$ about.htm [L] RewriteRule ^about\.htm$ about/ [R=302] I also tried changing it a bit and see what happends, but I always end up with an infinite loop of redirection or a 500 server error. Any idea why it's not working as intended? Thanks in advance!

  I've tried searching but couldn't come up with a defined way on how to add your own packages to a GWT project. My tree structure looks like this: -com.mycompany -public MyApplication.html MyApplication.gwt.xml -com.mycompany.client MyApp.java -com.mycompany.gui TableLayout.java The answer I've seen out there says to add the packages relative to the root directory of the gwt.xml file, like so: <module> <inherits name="com.google.gwt.user.User" /> <entry-point class="com.mycompany.client.MyApp" /> <source path="client" /> <source path="gui" /> </module> It then complains: Unable to find type 'com.technicon.client.MyApp' Hint: Previous compiler errors may have made this type unavailable Hint: Check the inheritance chain from your module; it may not be inheriting a required module or a module may not be adding its source path entries properly Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this?

  I have a folder with a bunch of log files. Each set of log files is in a folder detailing the time and date that the program was run. Inside these log folders, I've got some video files that I want to extract. All I want is the video files, nothing else. I tried using this command to only copy the video files, but it didn't work because a directory didn't exist. .rmv is the file extension of the files I want. $ find . -regex ".*.rmv" -type f -exec cp '{}' /copy/to/here/'{}' If I have a folder structure such as: |- root | |--- folder1 | |----- file.rmv | |--- folder2 | |----- file2.rmv How can I get it to copy to copy/to/here with it copying the structure of folder1 and folder2 in the destination directory?

(directory structure of the original rpcbind source) # find rpcbind-0.2.0 -type d rpcbind-0.2.0 rpcbind-0.2.0/src rpcbind-0.2.0/man (directory structure of the patch download) # find debian -type d debian debian/patches debian/source [EDIT] I've figured out how to apply the individual patches in the patches directory: # patch -p1 < ../debian/patches/01-usage-fix.patch patching file src/rpcbind.c (and so on for each patch file) ... but I'm not sure what do with the patch-related files in the root debian folder. (2) the JSON instructions for deserialization? or (3) Some kinb of Obj-C coding instruction? My end use is a simple Drill Down table using the NSObject, so when I select "memberid" row, I'll get the child/detail list on the next UITableview. • Reliable portability for C code without relying on the preprocessor

  Relying on the preprocessor and predefined compiler macros for achieving portability seems hard to manage. What's a better way to achieve portability for a C project? I want to put environment-specific code in headers that behave the same way. Is there a way to have the build environment choose which headers to include? I was thinking that I'd put the environment-specific headers into directories for specific environments. The build environment would then just copy the headers from the platform's directory into the root directory, build the project, and then remove the copies.

• Merging two folders using git

  I'm working on a project with some people who have never used git before. Not knowing the capabilities of git, they created two version of the project: development and production. These two versions are both present in the current environment. To complicate things further, this other user created these folders in addition to the old development folder. So the project directory looks like this /root /proj (old dev folder with my own code in it) /dev_proj (new folder which I would like to merge /prod with) /prod_proj (production code) So what I'd like to do is merge the work that I've done in /proj with the work in the /dev_proj. Is there a way to do this with git? I've thought about creating a branch, copying all the files from /proj to /dev_proj and merging that branch with master. Would this work? • Explanation for expires header

  I have a joomla application working on Apache.To improve site performace we have written a .htaccess file to root of the application with setting a far future expires header to all the static content. As desired first time the files load in fresh with 200 status code. when again click on the same link many of the files are served directly from cache. I need explanation for two things When i press f5 then a number of files load with 304 status code however i expected them to be coming directly from cache without hitting the server for a status header? When i close the browser and come back to the same page again i see the same thing happening a number of files load with 304 status code although i thought they will load directly from the browser cache? I understand that 304 also servs file from browser cache but i want to avoid the header communication between servers as my static files wont ever change. Also i want to add that my requests are over a https connection does that create any issue.

• What's the best way to change the namespace of a highly referenced class?

  I am attempting to move a highly referenced class from one namespace to another. Simply moving the file into the new project which has a different root namespace results in over 1100 errors throughout my solution. Some references to the class involve fully qualified namescape referencing and others involve the importing of the namespace. I have tried using a refactoring tool (Refactor Pro) to rename the namespace, in the hope all references to the class would change, but this resulted in the aforementioned problem. Anyone have ideas of how to tackle this challenge without needing to drill into every file manually and changing the fully qualified namespace or importing the new one if it doesn't exist already? • Why can't I publish MVC project

  I'm having problems publishing my MVC project. When I do publish and upload everything to web server I get this: [InvalidOperationException: The view 'Index' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx ~/Views/Home/Index.ascx ~/Views/Shared/Index.aspx ~/Views/Shared/Index.ascx] Weird thing is that Index.aspx exists in ~/Views/Home/, but IIS cannot find it there. If I copy entire project to web server and let asp.net compile it on the fly it works like a charm.
