• Finding bluetooth link key in Win7, to double pair a device on dualboot computer

  How can I dig up the bluetooth link key for a paired device in Win7? Is this something that is dependent on the bluetooth stack I'm using (Toshiba), or is there a generic place to store these in Win7? Note: I'm not talking about the six-digit code usually typed by the user during pairing - that is worthless since it's discarded after pairing process. What I mean is the 128-bit link key that the devices exchange during pairing, and use thereafter to encrypt all their bluetooth traffic. Background: I dualboot Win7 / Ubuntu on my laptop, and I would like to have my phone paired to both OS's. Since the dualbooting computer has only one bluetooth adapter and thus only one bluetooth address, I cannot do two pairings to the phone, since on the second pairing (windows) the phone just replaces the previous pairing (linux) to the same bluetooth address. A thread on Ubuntu forums pointed me to what I have to do - pair first on linux, then on windows, and then replace the link key on linux side with the one windows negotiated. I can find the linux side pairing key from /var/lib/bluetooth/[BD_ADDR]/linkkeys - no problems there. However, on windows side I can't find the key. According to the forum post, on windows side the key should be in SYSTEM\ControlSet002\services\BTHPORT\Parameters\Keys\[BD_ADDR] but while that registry key does exist, it has no subkeys. (And a similar registry path in ControlSet001 didn't have any subkeys either.) One thing I've been instructed to do is to capture all events during pairing with Sysinternals Process Monitor. I did this, but I haven't been able to find any useful information from the captured events, not even by exporting the data to a huge XML and grepping that with the BD_ADDRs (with or without colons). • User receives group membership error to terminal server even though has rights

By default, members of the Remote Desktop Users group have this right. If you are not a member of the Remote Desktop Users group or another group that has this right, or if the Remote Desktop User group does not have this right, you must be granted this right manually. Only as of today a particular user began receiving this message for a second terminal server they use; otherwise, they have never had any problems authenticating into this server. We have no restrictions on simultaneous and multiple logins. On each terminal server, we have a group and security group like "_Users" locally in the Builtin\Remote Desktop Users group. For this particular user, on this particular terminal server we have locally given him Administrator, Remote Desktop Users, and Users membership; in AD we have given him DOMAIN\Administrator, Builtin\Remote Desktop Users, DOMAIN\_Users. It still gives us that error message. We gave him membership to another terminal server (random) by simply making him member of another DOMAIN\_Users group -- successfully able to login to that random terminal server. So, from scratch we created an AD account 'dummy' (username) with only Domain Users membership. Tried to login to this particular server, no success. So I added 'dummy' to DOMAIN\_Users group, and then was successfully able to login. Other users from this user's department are able to login to this particular server just fine as well. We checked the Security logs on this particular server, and while it is logging everything, the only thing it appears to not log are these failed login attempts from this particular user who receives this error message. We have tried rebooting the server, and the user is still receiving that error message.

• How to perform this Windows 7 permissions change on many files via GUI or command line

  After using my external hard drive on another Windows 7 computer to tweak photos with Windows Live Photo Gallery then upload them to Facebook I found the modified images were now not visible on the original Windows 7 computer. I'm not sure if the things I tried to get it working subsequently changed anything, but I do know this is the sequence of actions that makes the permissions of the modified files match those of the unmodified files: Right click on broken image file, select "Properties" On the "Security" tab press the "Advanced" button In the "Permissions" tab press the "Continue" button with the shield icon on it Tick the box marked "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent Click the "Remove" button to remove the only current entry "Type: Allow, Name: Administrators (XYZ\Administrators), Permission: Full control, Inherited From: OK on the "Permissions" tab. OK on the "Security" tab. Now this same procedure does not work at the folder level. It results in "access denied" dialogs. I'm looking for some way to perform this exact modification on all the images I edited on the other computer. I'm happy to use the Windows GUI in Explorer or any other included tools. I'm happy to use the Windows command line. I'd prefer not to use a third-party tool since I'd have to be satisfied it's not doing anything else. I'm not looking for a different way to change permissions to other settings to make an external drive full of photos editable on multiple computers. At least not in this question.

• Using sed to Download ComboFix automatically

  I'm trying to write a shell script to grab the dynamic URL which ComboFix is located at at BleepingComputer.com/download/combofix However, for some reason I can't seem to get my regex to match the download link of the "click here" if the download doesn't work. I used a regex tester and it said I matched the link, but I can't seem to get it to work when I execute it, it turns up an empty result. • windows xp cannot access admin share

  I have 3 systems. A,B,Compx all on xp. but comps A and B have an issue with Compx. Compx has network shares I can access. I can do \\compx and get some. But I cannot access the admin share c$ \\compx\c$ gives a login prompt, and I can't get any user/pass to work. I looked at permissions but don't see an issue. Nevertheless, I will describe what I see in the permissions. In the security tab of C, I have Administrators,creator owner,everyone,bob,system,users (6 things there) "creator owner" has nothing ticked, I can't seem to change that. If I tick so they all get ticked, and click apply, 2.5min and it's completed its opration and they all untick. Though this isn't the root of the problem. Since I get the same in the share I can access. In advanced, I see those 6 things, Administrators,creator owner,everyone,bob,system,users (6 things there) all "full control" all are "this folder, subfolders and files".. except creator owner, which is just subfolders and files only I look at the properties for the share I can see. looks the same, except in security..advanced, double clicking any of them the boxes are all ticked but greyed. That's not the problem though since I can access that share. So, I don't know what the problem is.

  Howdy all Super Users" I humbly ask if any Super User can direct this long time, gray haired Apple Tech in the right direction on this issue. I believe there probably are many ways to skin this cat. But I am looking to find simply the best, most unattended way to get it done. Any help will be greatly appreciated. also (I know there are much better softwares out there for the Mac so please don't go there! The politics of this company dictate which Anti virus we have to use) anyway without any further wait: basically I am trying to automate 2 very important functions of Mc'Afee anti-virus for Mac. First I want to automate the process of retrieving new virus definition files, and second I want to automate the process of scanning for viruses. It turns out that Using Mc'Afee Anti-Virus for the Mac are both manual functions. And they left up to the user (per user account) to perform. Depending on all of about 150 MAc users to perform these 2 tasks themselves is around 65% compliance. My question then is: If I wanted to use the command line such as (open /Applications/McAfee\ Security.app) It will open up the Security Console. But how can I make command Mc'Afee go out and grab the definition files and scan the computer? I have to admit I am at a crossroad and Macaltimers has set in. • PHP potential issues with compiling 5.3.8 extensions against RHEL 6 / CentOS 6 PHP 5.3.3 package

  I'm working on getting a Red Hat 6 LAMP server going and while the PHP that comes with it has many extensions we use, it doesn't have all of them. To solve this, I was thinking about either compiling the PHP extensions which come in the ext folder of the downloadable source code of PHP 5.3.3 from php.net same as #1, but using the extensions from the latest PHP version (currently 5.3.8). Do #1 but manually decide which updates to backport from the latest version of the PHP extensions into the older version and then compile the backported result A drawback to #1 is that security and bug fixes come out which we wouldn't be able to take advantage of. A drawback to #3 is that it might be a lot of work Does anyone know what the drawbacks to #2 are? I don't want to go down that route if it might result in some unexpected negative outcomes. Also, are there any other drawbacks to the other options or a better way to go altogether? I want to use the PHP 5.3.3 which comes with the Linux distro because I don't want us to get to a place again where we are forced to upgrade to a new version of PHP to stay on top of security updates like from PHP 5.2.x to 5.3.x and there be backwards incompatible changes (this is the situation we're in now with PHP 5.2.x no longer being supported).

• What should I encrypt in Debian during install?

  I have seen various guides and recommendations on web about how best to do this but nothing that clearly explains the best way and why. So I understand there is a need for part of Debian during install to be un-encrypted on its own partition to allow it to boot. Most info I have seen is call this /boot and set the boot flag. Next I believe the best approach is to create another partition out of all the rest of the disk space, encrypt this, then on top of that create a LVM and then within the LVM create my various partitions , name them , select size, and file system type. Can I include /swap in the encrypted LVM part ? Is this approach sound? If so what are the partitions I should use (this is going to be a minimal server install with a view to install as and when what I need for a dev server)? Finally how does the installer know what to put in each partition I define ? I appreciate there are more than one question but any help and suggestions would be appreciated. If further clarification is needed please mention in the comments . EDIT : 16/3/2010 After Richard Holloways reply I thought it relevant to add this info: The reasons why I want to do this are to explore maximising security on any server install and set up, due to interest in the area of Computer Security and Forensics. Also I am trying to peform the task as if it being performed in an enterprise situation. On a technical matter, once set up and configured with minimal packages and ssh this server will not physically be easy to access so I will only be entering via ssh. (Yes I know why encrypt something no one will ever be able to get their hands on? Because I can and I want to is the simple answer, but see above too).

  Possible Duplicate: My server's been hacked EMERGENCY We've usually host our clients site, but we aren't hosting this one. The website itself (weddle-funeral.com) works just fine. if you load google and search for weddle funeral stayton oregon - and click that link, the site links to a scammy pill site. I went through the site and there were some php files in the wordpress plugins that got quarantined by my antivirus. I removed ALL non essential files, and uploaded fresh versions of all the plugins, but it's STILL redirecting from google. I tried logging in to the cpanel (on a virtual private server), and the cpanel flashed a red warning screen The site's security certificate is not trusted! You attempted to reach XXXXX.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications. You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site. (Keep in mind, that's for the HOSTING accounts CPanel) Is there something in the SERVER probably that's causing the redirect? • ASA 5505 VPN setup. VPN works but still unable to reach devices in the inside network.

  I've setup a Remote Access VPN on my Cisco ASA 5505. I'm able to connect to my ASA via my phone or the Cisco client, but I'm unable to reach devices in my inside LAN when connected via VPN. The setup is the following: Inside Network : 10.0.0.0/24 VPN_POOL: 172.16.0.0/24 Outside Network: 192.168.1.0/24 ASA is not the perimeter router, there is another device on the 192.168.1.0/24 network which is connected to my cable provider. Obviously UDP port 500 and 4500 are forwarded to the ASA's outside interface. Everything works perfectly, besides the VPN stuff. • Cisco ASA 5505 - InterVLAN NAT Exemptions Implementation not working

  Short version is we cannot communicate between our subnets. We have a Cisco ASA 5505 we are using for our network router. We have a Netgear L3 switch behind that with 10 vlans. Each VLAN is on its own subnet. (10.0.10.x/24, 10.0.11.x/24, etc) So ASA Switch Hosts We have PAT for each subnet to our outside interface. Each subnet NATs out properly. I have NAT exemption enabled for 2 of the subnets (eventually I will need all, but am just testing at the moment). Config is here: http://pastebin.com/pDsG7hsh I have tried multiple ways for the NAT exemption to allow all traffic from our inside VLANS. At this point in time I am trying to get "Engineering" to communicate with all hosts on "AuthUser". I can ping some hosts, but not as many as if I am directly on the interface. I can reach a port 80 service, but not 443. I cannot access anything via hostname or NetBIOS. What am I missing to allow higher security level interfaces to fully communicate with lower security level interfaces? Thx!

• Allied Telesis router: IP filtering for the LOCAL interface

  Given an Allied Telesis router with an AlliedWare OS (2.9.1) I would like to disable access to all management services of the router except for a number of subnets (or alternatively have what is a "management VLAN" with other manufacturers' switch and router models). What I have tried so far: creating a new VLAN and an appropriate IP interface, setting the LOCAL IP into this subnet, creating an IP filter for the IP interface and specifying my exclusion subnets: it simply does not work as intended as I can access the LOCAL IP set from any of the other VLAN interfaces - the traffic is apparently not going through my defined filter set at all creating a new IP filter set and binding it to the LOCAL IP interface: this seems not to affect any kind of traffic at all, the counters for the filter set remain at zero packets setting the Remote Security Officer Level IP address range: this only restricts the ability for a user with the Security Officer privilege level to log in from any but the specified address ranges / subnets. Unfortunately, it does not prevent service availability (and thus DoS capacity) or the ability to log in as a less privileged user (e.g. a "manager") calling technical support: unfortunately no solution so far What I have not tried: creating a filter set for each and every IP interface defined on the router and excluding access to the router's management IP: I would like to reduce the overhead induced by IP filters as the router already is CPU-constrained at times. Setting up filters for every IP interface would mean that each and every traffic packet would have to pass the filters, thus consuming CPU cycles. If by any means possible, I would like to find a different solution.

• MacMini transmit rate stuck at 11, every other device can connect at full 54Mbit/s?

  I have a MacMini circa 2007 that's getting very low transmit rates via wifi, 8-11. I have other devices that are getting full 54, including a MacBook Air. With everything else off, the MacMini doesn't want to seem to go any faster. Since it has been previously connected to ethernet its entire life, I was wondering if there were some settings I can change to speed up the connection. Option-clicking the network icon gives this read out: PHY Mode: 802.11g Channel: 1 (2.4 Ghz) Security: WPA2 Personal RSSI: -73 Transmit Rate: 11 My new MacBook Air has the following readout: PHY Mode: 802.11n Channel: 1 (2.4 Ghz) Security: WPA2 Personal RSSI: -66 Transmit Rate: 79 Both have full bars and the wireless router is in the same room to eliminate any obstructions from the equation. Could the MacMini be connecting at an older protocol, like 802.11b and be reporting erroneously that it is connected at 802.11g? This would explain why I haven't seen a transmit rate above 11. Any further trouble shooting I can try before buying a new USB 802.11n device? The WiFi router is a DLink DIR-615. I can see other devices, and none, even the other g connected devices, are getting below 30-40 MBit/s. What's going on here?

  i have a problem on my domain, the history starting from when i had a server with WIN 2008 r2 installed with the following roles installed on it (AD, DNS, DHCP, File). From 1 month i decided to install a new server 2008 r2 server to get (AD, DNS, DHCP) and leave the file server on the old one. i did the following exactly: 1) robocopy all my data on external HDD 2) Install a new server with 2008 r2 3) transfer all 5 roles to transfer the domain to the new server (MainDC) 4) issue (NETLOGON, SYSVOL) not transferred but i decided to reinitialize them again an now they are operating (MainDC) 5) re-create and re-configure a new GPOs and link it to my OUs 6) reinstall Old server operating system with a fresh installation of WIN 2008 R2 (FileServer) 7) join my domain with my domain credentials. the issue when i tried to share folder on \fileserver the permissions that i had set in sharing permissions are applied on the main shared folder and subfolders. the security settings are not applied. i.e. Say i'm sharing \fileserver\MainFolder with sharing permission for Authenticated Users that can read, so every one can read this main shared folder, if i set security permission for \fileserver\MainFolder\User1 that User1 can Read\Write\Modify. User1 can not perform this processes when accessing it from Network Share, i tried alot of steps from topics online get ownership for folder, remove inheritance from parent folder, applying changes for child objects, i tried also to construct a new folder structure but also the same issue, i tried another host PC, also i get the same issue.

• Monitoring Between EC2 Regions

  I'm working on a small EC2 project that involves a handful of servers in two different regions (US East and EU West). My first task is to implement a Nagios monitoring solution. Monitoring within a region is simple - I just use the private domain names/IPs, but I'm a little unsure of the best way to handle monitoring the second region without setting up a second Nagios install. The environment is fairly static, so I'm not going to be scripting the configuration with the EC2 tools just yet. As I see it, I have two options. Two Nagios installations (which is over-kill for the small number of servers I'm dealing with). Pros: I don't have to alter the group permissions nor do I have to pay for the traffic, redundancy in the monitoring solution - I could monitor the Nagios servers. Cons: two installations to deal with and I'd need to run another server instance. Have the single installation monitor both regions. Pros: one installation to deal with. Cons: slightly reduced security - security group will have to have NRPE (5666) opened for one source IP and also paying for a small amount of bandwidth at the Internet rate for data transfer between the regions. I guess my question is - how have others handled this problem and what are your recommendations? Thanks!

• where are the default ulimit values set? (linux, centos)

  I have two CentOS (5) servers with nearly identical specs. When I login and do: ulimit -u on one machine, I get unlimited and on the other, 77824 When I run a cron like * * * * * ulimit -u > ulimit.txt I get the same results (unlimited, 77824). I am trying to determine where these are set so that I can alter them. They are not set in any of my profiles (.bashrc, /etc/profile, etc .. these wouldn't affect cron anyway) nor in /etc/security/limits.conf (which is empty). I have scoured google and even gone so far as to do grep -Ir 77824 / but nothing has turned up so far. I don't understand how these machines could have come preset with different limits. I am actually wondering not for these machines, but for a different (CentOS 6) machine which has a limit of 1024, which is far too small. I need to run cron jobs with a higher limit and the only way I know how to set that is in the cron job itself. That's ok, but I'd rather set it system wide so it's not as hacky. Thanks for any help. This seems like it should be easy (NOT) EDIT -- SOLVED Ok, I figured this out. It seems to be an issue either with CentOS 6 or perhaps my machine configuration. On the CentOS 5 configuration, I can set in /etc/security/limits.conf: * - nproc unlimited and that would effectively update the accounts and cron limits. However, this does not work in my CentOS 6 box. Instead, I must do: myname1 - nproc unlimited myname2 - nproc unlimited ... And things work as expected. Maybe the UID specification works to, but the wildcard (*) definitely DOES NOT here. Oddly, wildcards DO work for the 'nofile' limit. I still would love to know where the default values are actually coming from, because by default, this file is empty and I couldn't see why I had different defaults for the two CentOS boxes, which had identical hardware and were from the same provider.
