• PHP/HTML Strange refresh problem

  After I upload my PHP files to my web host, I view the page by the URL. So what I usually do as I work on the page is make a change, upload, then refresh the browser to view my changes. What I find is that sometimes I refresh and it shows me a previous version of the page, I hit refresh 5 times and it shows me 5 different versions of the page some old changes some new changes, it makes it really difficult to know which is the latest version. I dont think this is a local caching problem, Ive disabled caching in all browsers, the problem occurs in IE, FF, Chrome I have a feeling it might be the web server. I believe the hosting company uses Zeus (?) web server product.

• Trying to get simple jquery animations on a site I created in Dreamweaver

  Hey guys, another question. I'm trying to do some basic jQuery stuff for my final project. I'll be using it to modify my already existing site created in Dreamweaver a few months ago. However, no matter how I source the framework, it just won't take regardless of whether I host my own copy or link to someone else's like Google's. I'm including my jQuery function calls within my already existing .js file that includes some auto generated functions. I also tried creating a new .js specifically for my jQuery functions and still nothing. I realize this is vague, but any tips? Do I need another framework for jQuery to work off of to make animations like .fadeIn() or .slideDown()? Thanks guys and gals!

  Hello - I am having trouble understanding the Phing documentation regarding multiple conditions for a given tag. It implies you cannot have multiple conditions unless you use the tag, but there are no examples of how to use it. Consequently I nested two tags, however I feel silly doing this when I know there is a better way. • problem when migrating from development into live server

  I'm facing problem when migrate my web app project from development server to live server. the reason is because i just realize that the live server has different PHP version and available memory lower then mine. i found this after client give me their ftp and cpanel access of their server, which is a shared host. so, how do we handle this situation ? and avoid similar problem in the future ? What is the most suitable configuration of a development server ? btw, i use xampp in windows. it's has apache and mysql.

  Hi, I have a bunch of big txt files (game walkthroughs) that I need translating from English to French. My first instinct was to host them on a server and use a PHP script to automate the translation process by doing a file_get_contents() and some URL manipulation to get the translated text. Something like: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=fr&sl=en&u=http://mysite.com/faq.txt I found it poses two problems: 1) there are frames 2) the frame src values are relative (ie src="/translate_c?....") so nothing loads. Is there any way to fetch pages translated via Google in PHP (without using their AJAX API as it's really not suitable here)?

• Beginners PHP e-mail problem

  I'm working on my first PHP project, and it's going well. I've been able to figure out how to do most of what I need so far, but there's one big problem for me now: E-mail. I'm on a shared server, so I can't install PEAR, and I can't modify my php.ini. According to my host's very limited documentation, I have to use SMTP so I can't (correct me if I'm wrong) use the mail() function. So does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? At this point I just want to send a basic text message, so where would I specify my SMTP port number, user, password and so on? Thanks

• Conditionally embed ASP.NET MVC2 Views as resources during build in Visual Studio 2010

  I have a ASP.NET MVC2 project in VS2010 that can be deployed in two modes: standalone or plugin. In standalone mode, the views should live outside the compiled assembly as .aspx files (the default setup). In plugin mode, the views are switched (currently by hand) to embedded resources and the entire assembly is dropped into a host project folder. Currently, this requires the developer to go through each view and switch it from Build Action: "Content" to "Embedded Resource" and vice versa. I would like to create a new solution configuration to automatically grab all .aspx files and build them as resources. This SO post seems like the solution, but I would prefer not to have to edit the .csproj every single time I add a new view to the project. Is there a way to use a wild cards or some other batch/global conditionally statement to change resources from content to embedded?

• How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, experiences and guidance.

• Could not see memory being released on closing MFC modal dialog that hosts wpf user control using HW

  This is in continuation with my last question posted "Continuous Memory leak while using WpfHWndSource" I have to load an WPF User Control in an MFC Modal Dialog that is being invoked from the ocx control. For this I have created a MFC Regular Dll(Mixed Mode Regular dll with clr option enabled), I have created a modal dialog which will host wpf user control using HWndSource. This exported dialog is placed as a child Dialog of the above MFC dialog that is being invoked from the ocx. Ny intermediate dialog uses C++/Cli code. When the main MFC dialog is closed, I am deleteing the ptr reference of the intermediate dialog created on the heap. In the the dipose of the .Net User Control, I have set most of the references that I have created to null, unsubscribed to the events (to avoid weak refernces), unbinded from the propertes(by using clear binding). Called delete on the HwndSource and the user control(which basically calls the dispose method). But I do not see complete memory being released. Any help would be greatful.

  Hi there, I've accidentally copied a large part of a folder tree from my SVN working copy to my shared Windows web host via FTP. The site is now littered with .svn directories and and I need some way of cleaning them. The only access I have to the server is via FTP, or by running a script on the server. Does any one have a script which can be run remotely to remove the files over FTP from my development machine (any language Windows/Linux is fine) or a script in ASP, ASP.net or PHP I can run directly on the Windows server to remove these directories? • Wordpress: Not able to retrieve css for new plugin in admin mode

  I'm creating a new plugin which will have it's own css file. The css file resides in the root folder of the plugin. In the plugin section of the admin interface, I have added a few text fields fields. But the CSS is not applied. • Determine IP# of domain from client browser

  Greetings all, I would very much like to determine the IP# of a domain from client script. It's for use in a testing application to determine whether or not a certain domain is set to a QA address as opposed to the address live on the . The testing machine will have it's host file set to resolve a domain to the QA address. Pinging from the server won't help since the server is getting the public DNS address. Is this possible in JavaScript? Maybe a Flash could do the trick?

  Hi There, I just moved my website to a new server (Shared to VPS) I expected errors, and the only error that is really puzzling me is this SQL statement. echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users_online_now") This returns nothing! And if I try the mysql_num_rows, it returns mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource.. If I query another table though eg: echo mysql_query("SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users") It works fine. I'm guessing it's something to do with the naming of the table? It worked fine on my previous host, is there some setting I should modify?

The server is configured to use pass-through authentication with a built-in account to access the specified physical path. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access. Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain, and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that \$ has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again.   I couldn't find any close answers to this, so I'm consulting the experience of SO users: Scenario: I have two small C# winforms applications where one behaves as a server or host, the other as a client. They share data via SQL Server, in terms of configuration settings. I am currently launching the client application (which only needs to run periodically) from the server application via Process.Start() and terminating it via Process.CloseMainWindow() (after finding it in the process list). While it seems clean enough, I wondered if there's a better way. Question: Which way would be best to instruct the client application to shut down: Continue using Process.CloseMainWindow()? Implement WCF between the applications? (I would need help on how to do this.) Set a variable in SQL that the client application checks for? Some other way?

  Is there anything I could do to get my own open source stuff into Maven's Central repository? I've wondered many times how I could get my own projects into Maven's Central repository. I was asking this myself, especially as I've seen some well known projects hosting their own repository, requiring users to add dependency and repository. At the same time, it's getting difficult for other projects to depend on those projects. As I neither want others to add an additional repository nor to host one myself, I'm looking for other ways. And why aren't some projects using the option to deploy to Maven Central in favor of their self-hosted repository? Any good reasons that aren't obvious?

• Virtual PC 2007 as programming environment

  I'd like to create a VM in Virtual PC 2007 for use as a development environment/sandbox for an existing ASP.NET application in Visual Studio 2005/SQL Server 2005 (and VSS for source control). I'm thinking that I need to create a 'base' copy of the environment (with the os, Visual Studio, and Sql Server), and then copy that to a 'work' version that I do actual development in. I would be sharing this VM with one or two other developers who would be working on different parts of the app. Is this a good idea? What is the best way to get my app/databases in and out of the VM and the changes I make into VSS? Is it just a copy from the host location to the VM share and back again? How do I keep everything synchronized? Thanks!
