  Is it possible to setup several additional domain controllers (ADC) at remote locations that are connected via medium bandwidth DSL (2-10 Mbit) WAN connections for a single domain (intranet.example.com)? And would it be a good idea? We have five sites and would like to have extremely high availability if any of the site were to lose their Internet connection. However each site is very small, and all are over a fairly small geographical area within the same region, so it would seem strange to have a PDC for each of the sites. If it were possible to have an ADC for each site, would the clients use the ADC or just use the PDC if it's available to them?

  Hi! Some time ago I defined a class that was serialized using XML. That class contained a serializable propertyA of integer type. Now I have extended and updated this class, whereby a new propertyB was added, whose type is another class that also has several serializable properties. The new propertyB is now supposed to play the role of propertyA, that is since type of propertyB is another class, one of its members would contain the value that previously propertyA contained, thus making peroptyA obsolete. What I am trying to figure out is how do I make sure that when I desireliaze the OLD version of this class (without propertyB in it), I make sure that the desreializer would take the value of propertyA from the old calss and set it as a value of one of the members of propertyB in a new class?   I have a class, Queue, that I tried to make thread safe. I understand there are other implementations available, but I'd like to try to fix this code, if needed. Anyone see any issues? The constructor has the appropriate initializations: Queue() { pthread_mutex_init( &mMutex, NULL ); pthread_cond_init( &mCondition, NULL ); } and the destructor, the corresponding 'destroy' calls.

• jquery dialog calls a server side method with button parameters

  Hello all, I have a gridview control with delete asp:ImageButton for each row of the grid. What I would like is for a jquery dialog to pop up when a user clicks the delete button to ask if they are sure they want to delete it. So far I have the dialog coming up just fine, Ive got buttons on that dialog and I can make the buttons call server side methods but its getting the dialog to know the ID of the row that the user has selected and then passing that to the server side code. The button in the page row is currently just an 'a' tag with the id 'dialog_link'. • PHP/Oracle Connectivity randomly "drops out"

  Hi! Here's the current situation - I have two web servers (for now named A and B) and two database servers (named C and D). The web servers are quite old, and are running an early version of Apache 2 + PHP4, while the DB servers are running Oracle 9i and 10g respectively. We're experiencing a strange problem connecting (via PHP code) to database A while on web server B only. Web server A has no issues at all... Randomly, web server B will report a "Not connected to Oracle" error (3114). I can't see a real pattern with this, but refreshing a few times seems to fix the issue. Apparently there are no drop-outs on the network interface, which leads me to believe that there's some misconfiguration between PHP/Apache and Oracle (which uses connection pooling). We're running SunOS 5.8... Any ideas?

They have internet connection from small ISP located in the same building, all I see is one CAT5 cable with 2 RJ45 connectors. One is going to WAN port on the router and another into LAN port on the same router. This is the only way for internet connection to work. I tried to connect my laptop to one of the RJ45 but it won't work. Now, what is the purpose for such setup?

• Is it possible to use the same MAC address for an entire subnet?

  I wish to add static entries to the ARP table of my machine so that it uses a dummy MAC 00:11:22:33:44:55 for any IP address within the subnet 10.0.0.0/8 Using arp -s 10.0.0.0/8 00:11:22:33:44:55 does not work. What can I do? PS - I know it might sound strange why anyone would want to do this but kindly bear with me here. EDIT: I am using this so that the hosts do not send a broadcast ARP message. I route the packets to the appropriate last hop router which changes the dst MAC from the fake MAC to the MAC of the dst IP address. I can get everything working except I have to manually enter the fake MAC for each subnet IP address.

No problem, I just went ahead and did this: bool? isReviewingValue= ViewState["IsReviewing"] as bool?; if (isReviewingValue.HasValue) { return isReviewingValue.Value; } Question is: Besides looking a bit more readable, is this in fact better? EDIT: So this is getting more interesting. I decided to test it using a simple stopwatch and turns out that the second is much faster... Which after reading some of the responses here I didn't expect at all. I was thinking for sure my way was much slower. • SBS2008 : can't have a mailbox accessible from outside?

  We have a SBS2008 server with 9 users using the embeeded Exchange. The MX record points to this server. This works fine. We want 2 remote users to also have a mailbox on this server. The consultant say we can't because SBS don't allow to have remote users for Exchange. He may be right but seems very strange to me. I don't find anything related to that. I don't want to touch this server for political reasons. So I can't to the test. Can anyone confirm if Exchange on SBS2008 can or can't be reach from outside ?

  Ok the problem I'm having is that I have a block of javascript I've successfully scraped out of a websites source and now I have to sift through the js to get the specific values I'm looking for. Below is the chunk i'm needing to deal with. I need to find "flvFileName" and get all the file names listed. In this case its: trailer1,trailer2,trailer3. At first I started using regex to match the start and end tags and them match the file names and extract them to an array but the problem is that there isn't always 3 videos in the list. Could be 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. So matching doesn't work. Any thoughts on a way to approach this that won't make me continue to abuse my laptop?   I have created a view in interface builder that contains another view (content area) and a button bar at the bottom. The hierarchy is as: ->View --->mapContainer UIView ----->map MKMapView ----->OverlayView UIView --->ToolBar UIToolBar I would like the mapContainer to resize to full window when the ToolBar is hidden. I would like the map and the OverlayView to resize to the mapContainer size I have attempted the following code, but it has no effect.   I am SUPER new to programming and have my first assignment coming up in python. I am writing a hangman type game, where users are required to guess the word inputted from the other user. I have written most of the code, but the only problem I am having is when users have to input the word, making sure it is only limited to the alphabet. The code I have so far is : word = str.lower(raw_input("Type in your secret word! Shhhh... ")) answer = True while answer == True: for i in range(len(word)): if word[i] not in ("abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz"): word = raw_input("Sorry, words only contain letters. Please enter a word ") break else: answer = False This works while I input a few tries, but eventually will either exit the loop or displays an error. Is there any easier way to use this? We've really only covered topics up to loops in class, and break and continue are also very new to me. Thank you! (Pardon if the code is sloppy, but as I said I am very new to this....)

• WD 1TB Passport Essential not working on some USB ports

  I have a strange situation here. I got a new Toshiba P850/04P laptop, there are 4 USB 3.0 ports, 2 on the right and 2 on the left. When I plug my WD 1TB Passport Essential into the 2 ports on the left, the drive keeps disconnecting and then connecting again, on and off. Sometimes it works well for 1 hour and then disconnects and even shows the "please format your drive" message. What is odd is: this WD 1TB Passport Essential works perfectly on those 2 ports on the right side. It has been working fine on all other PCs and laptops. Another 500 GB WD passport can work with the USB ports on the left (the ones 1TB can not), also all other devices can work with all 4 ports. I am really confused! Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I even started questioning if memory free up ever happens, but empirical tests show that it does. So there must be some other way it is done, but where and how? • Cannot locate record in delphi ADO query

  I can't locate any record in TADOQuery using PK. First, I was trying to use standard Locate method: PPUQuery.Locate('ID', SpPlansQuery['PPONREC'], []); It always returns False, but manual search (passing the whole query matching ID with given PPONREC which is really slow) finds the desired row. I tried using loPartialKey and switched CursorLocation of query to clUseServer, but it didn't help. Next, I tried to filter my PPUQuery: PPUQuery.Filter := 'ID = ' + VarToStr(SpPlansQuery['PPONREC']); PPUQuery.Filtered := True; PPUQuery.First; But after that the PPUQuery.Eof is True and PPUQuery.RecordCount equals 0. Underlying database is Oracle 9 and the ID is of type INTEGER and is PK of table TPORDER_CMK.
