• Silverlight Recruiting Application Part 6 - Adding an Interview Scheduling Module/View

  Between the last post and this one I went ahead and carried the ideas for the Jobs module and view into the Applicants module and view- they're both doing more or less the same thing, except with different objects being at their core.  Made for an easy cut-and-paste operation with a few items being switched from one to another.  Now that we have the ability to add postings and applicants, wouldn't it be nice if we could schedule an interview?  Of course it would! Scheduling Module I think you get the drift from previous posts that these project structures start looking somewhat similar.  The interview scheduling module is no different than the rest- it gets a SchedulingModule.cs file at the root that inherits from IModule, and there is a single SchedulerView.xsml and SchedulerViewModel.cs setup for our V+VM.  We have one unique concern as we enter into this- RadScheduler deals with AppointmentsSource, not ItemsSource, so there are some special considerations to take into account when planning this module. Customizing the Edit Appointment Dialog This initially sounds a lot more intimidating than it really is.  The first step here depends on what you're dealing with for theming, but for ease of everything I went ahead and extracted my templates in Blend for RadScheduler so I could modify it as I pleased.  For the faint of heart, the RadScheduler template is a few thousand lines of goodness since there are some very complex things going on in that control.  I've gone ahead and trimmed down the template parts I don't need as much as possible, so what is left is all that is relevant to the 201.        entityInterview.PostingID = appointmentInterview.PostingID; 202.    } 203.   204.    #endregion 205.} One thing we're doing here which you won't see in any of the other ViewModels is creating a duplicate collection.  I know this is something which will be fixed down the line for using RadScheduler, simplifying this process, but with WCF RIA changing as it does I wanted to ensure functionality would remain consistent as I continued development on this application.  So, I do a little bit of duplication, but for the greater good.  This all takes place starting on line 79, so for every entity that comes back we add it to the collection that is bound to RadScheduler.  Otherwise, the DelegateCommands that you see correspond directly to the events they are named after.  In each case, rather than sending over the full event arguments, I just send in the appointment in question (coming through as the object obj in all cases) so I can add (line 91), edit (line 119), and delete appointments (line 142) like normal.  This just ensures they get updated back to my database.  Also, the one bit of code you won't see is for the Appointment Creating (line 110) event- that is because in the command I've created I simply make the replacement I need to: 1.void element_AppointmentCreating(object sender, AppointmentCreatingEventArgs e) 2.{ 3.    e.NewAppointment = new InterviewAppointment(); 204.    } 205.   206.    #endregion 207.} Nice... right? :) One really important thing to note as well.  See on line 51 where I set the DataContext before the Loaded event?  This is super important, as if you don't have this set before the usercontrol is loaded, the DataContextProxy has no context to use and your EditAppointmentDialog Job/Applicant dropdowns will be blank and empty.  Trust me on this, took a little bit of debugging to figure out that by setting the DataContext post-loaded would only lead to disaster and frustration.  Otherwise, the only other real difference is that instead of sending an ActionHistory item through an event to get added to the database and saved, I do those right in the callback from submitting.  The Result Again, I only have to post one picture because these bad boys used nearly identical code for both the MVVM and the code-behind views, so our end result is... So what have we learned here today?  One, for the most part this MVVM thing is somewhat easy.  Yeah, you sometimes have to write a bunch of extra code, but with the help of a few useful snippits you can turn the process into a pretty streamlined little workflow.  Heck, this story gets even easier as you can see in this blog post by Michael Washington- specifically run a find on 'InvokeCommandAction' and you'll see the section regarding the command on TreeView in Blend 4.  Brilliant!  MVVM never looked so sweet! Otherwise, it is business as usual with RadScheduler for Silverlight whichever path you're choosing for your development.  Between now and the next post, I'll be cleaning up styles a bit (those RadComboBoxes are a little too close to my labels!) and adding some to the RowDetailsViews for Applicants and Jobs, so you can see all the info for an appointment in the dropdown tab view.  Otherwise, we're about ready to call a wrap on this oneDid you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Blue screen of death while installing any Adobe Air application

  Whenever I try to install an Air application I get a Blue Screen and then my system restarts. I cannot even take a screenshot of it. This happens with every air application I try to install. I also searched for the same on Adobe forums and found the same problem being faced by someone else. His problem was resolved by uninstalling a software named "Folder Lock". I searched my hard disk for this software and found one, so I deleted that software (shift+delete) and removed all it's traces from registry too but that still doesn't solved the problem. I also tried disabling the antivirus software and then install the air application but this also didn't helped. Here is the screenshot of the BSOD. I was able to install air applications earlier, but now I can't. Anybody having same sort of problem. One colleague of mine is also having the same problem. Please help me out. My system's config is as follows: Windows XP Home sp3 Flash Builder 4, with SDK 4.1, 3.5 installed in it. Adobe Air v 2.5 1.5 GB RAM 1.66 MHz processor Thanks

• Xen HVM networking wont work

  I'm trying to get a Xen HVM network working using route however I am failing. Xen PV works fine using Ubuntu but when installing Ubuntu on HVM it fails to pick up the network. I'll let you know now that I'm not that experienced with Xen so I would appreciate any help. vm104 is the HVM thats causing me the problems, here is the configs that I believe should help resolve the problem. • Setting up Windows SBS 2008 network on Xen

  I'm trying to install a Windows SBS 2008 server in a Xen environment. The OS is booting fine. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to set up the network settings. Dom0 is a Debian Lenny hosting around 10 virtual servers. Here are the settings I'm using in the hosted Windows SBS: IP address: 10.20.0.8 Network mask: 255.255.0.0 Gateway: 10.20.0.1 Note that during the installation stage, Windows set the net mask at 255.255.255.0 without letting me choose. Gross. Windows SBS tells me I have a "limited connection". I can't ping the gateway nor any other IP except localhost and it's own IP (10.20.0.8).   We have 5 static IP addresses from our ISP: XXX.XXX.XXX.180 XXX.XXX.XXX.181 XXX.XXX.XXX.182 XXX.XXX.XXX.183 XXX.XXX.XXX.184 On our firewall box, the NIC that is connected to our cable modem, appears to have all 5 IP addresses set on it. A previous IT guy set this thing up, and I'm not sure exactly what he did. Are these virtual interfaces on this NIC or what? • Reporting Services 2008: Virtual directories not visible in IIS7..

  I'm having some problems with Reporting Services on Windows Server 2008 Standard. I've installed server 2008 as a standalone webserver (with roles/features of an web application server). On top of that, I've installed Sql Server 2008 Standard with Reporting Services (and the rest of the BI tools). Problem is, I want to modify the rights on the virtual directories. However, the virtual directories aren't appearing in IIS 7 management tool. I can connect to reporting services, albeit only with the local windows admin account. I can download Report Builder fine from an session on the server (but not from any clients). I've tried removing the default website from IIS, and that stops the reporting services website from working. The machine (a VM) isn't for production use - it's used on a closed network internally for testing and development purposes. I need to be able to let my fellow developers login without a password, and they must be able to install ReportBuilder 2.0. Must not be linked to a domain or active directory in any form. Google isn't much help, the results suggest I modify the virtual directory Does anyone have any suggestions?

• PPP kernel module fails to load

  I am trying to deal with a problem on a server I don't normally deal with. Out of the blue a script using ppp started failing saying that the ppp kernel module is not loaded. When I try to modprobe it it complains about files missing. Note below that the kernel version the server thinks it at, does not match the kernel version directory in /lib/modules. I'm not sure how this could have happened. Could the other maintainers of the server botched a kernel upgrade? My question is how can I fix this discrepancy. Can I simply rename the lib directory and hope for the best? • Change Laptop Wireless Card?

  I have just bought a new Samsung RV511 Laptop (the i5 Version). Anyway it comes installed with a Broadcom Wifi Card, I have a Super Atheros Mini Wifi Card that I would like to swap for the Broadcom one. I use Atheros for security auditing purposes in Linux that the Broadcom one is not good for. Trouble is I have never got to the barebones of a laptop, although I am a Custom PC Builder, laptops i generally have no concern for. Take a look at this picture, I took one back panel off to reveal some of the components: I believe the Wireless Card is where I marked the arrow pointing too. That little white square thing appears to be a sticker of the Wifi card, it says WLAN. How can I access it to swap it with my Atheros one. Do I need to remove all the outermost screws? There are screws located to the right of where I scribbled in Yellow and next to the HDD, do I just remove those? I dont want to destroy the machine, only just got it today. Appreciate some help thanks.

• Setting up Windows network on Xen

  I'm trying to install a Windows XP server in a Xen environment. The OS is booting fine. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to set up the network settings. Dom0 is a Debian Lenny currently hosting around 10 Linux virtual servers. Windows tells me I have a "limited connection". • Blink build with Xcode failed

  I found a GPL-ed SIP client for Mac, Blink. I'd like to build it from source since the binaries are only available as paid download. Just FYI i'm studying programming at university but have no experience in building complex application from source. After downloading the content of the repository i opened the Xcode project and tried to build on OS X 10.7, Xcode 4.2.1. Unfortunately the build fail with 1 error and many warnings Most of the warnings are like this: Attribute Unavailable: Custom Identifiers in Interface Builder versions prior to 3.2 The error message is: Apple Mach-O Linker (ld) Error Command /Developer/usr/bin/clang failed with exit code 1 preceded by the warning Apple Mach-O Linker (ld) Warning directory not found for option '-L/Users/Sergio/Downloads/Blink/devel.ag-projects.com/repositories/public/blink-cocoa/Distribution/Frameworks' I notice that in the list of required files i have this files missing: Dependencies/Frameworks libgcrypt.11.6.0.dylib libgcrypt.11.dylib libgnutls-extra.26.dylib libgnutls.26.dylib libgpg-error.0.dylib libintl.8.dylib liblzo.1.dylib libtasn1.3.dylib Dependencies/Resources lib Frameworks/Linked Frameworks Sparkle.framework Products Blink.app It should be possible to download these files somewhere. Unfortunately googling did not help. There's no documentation on the project site.

• FWBuilder DNS Object Run Time - when exactly does it resolve the DNS name?

  In Firewall Builder, when you use the DNS Object and set it to run time, when exactly does the firewall (iptables in our case) actually resolve the DNS name? Is it whenever a call is made to that DNS name in the firewall? So the firewall would resolve the name on the fly whenever someone/something tries to access that DNS name? Or is it when you execute the fw script to load the rules into iptables? So in this case, it would resolve the DNS name that one time and then hard-code the resulting ip address into the iptable rules? From what I read, I think its #1, but it's just not 100% clear to me. We have two servers for a certain function on our network. One is the primary server and one is backup. alpha0.domain.com alpha1.domain.com In DNS we have this: alpha.domain.com -> alpha0.domain.com If the primary server goes down and we need to switch to the backup, I just change our local DNS record to point to alpha1.domain.com instead. So back to the firewall, if I just put in a Domain Object as alpha.domain.com, do I have to reload the firewall rules every time we switch to the backup alpha server and change the DNS record? Or will the firewall automatically resolve to the correct address even after the switch?

• Failed to re-publish a page - Tridion 2011 SP1

  We are getting some strange error when re-publishing the same page. The page was published successfully the first time and we can see the page from presentation server. It failed with the following error (see below) when we tried to publish it again (no change to page). The page ran OK within template builder and we got the correct html output, it failed in the last committing deployment step (Prepare Transport, Transporting, Preparing Deployment and Deploying are all successful). Once it fails to publish the second time, it always fails to publish, and we can't un-publish it either. Also when we make a copy of the failed page and create a new page, we can publish the new page first time, the new page then fails to publush the second time with the same error. Does anyone know what would cause this error? any help would be greatly appreciated.
