  I've followed this guide to get postfix set up. I've not completed it yet, as from sending test emails, email is no longer being delivered since switching to Maildir from mbox. • Clamdscan scans file in 0 seconds

  I have to run clamav on large files. I was wondering which command was the fastest between clamscan and clamdscan. But it seems that clamdscan is not working properly: it scans file larger than 1 GB. Could you guys help me find why the heck clamdscan isn't working ? Between clamscan and clamdscan which one is less resource consuming ? I run ClamAV 0.97.8/18037 on Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS.   Installed Ubuntu 11.1 successfully without my wireless device being recognized. Used sudo apt-get update + upgrade commands to attempt to fix this. Computer crashes after upgrade and now it won't finish re-installing Ubuntu, after it shows the first purple screen with the Ubuntu logo, the screen goes black. Used the Derik's Boot Nuke CD and then attempted re-installment again, and the black screen problem remains consistent, seemingly no matter what I do. It sounds like it's installing but won't let me see anything or go anywhere. heelllppp

  I'm building a web server to host multiple websites. I got everything working except the mail server. I'm using linode to host my vps and I've been following their tutorials. FYI, I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. Here is the link I've been following, http://library.linode.com/email/postfix/dovecot-mysql-ubuntu-10.04-lucid. I got up to the part where it tells me to restart dovecot, so I tried "service dovecot restart". But then I get this "restart: Unknown instance:". I'm logged in as root, so I'm not using sudo. Since that didn't work I tried "/etc/init.d/dovecot restart" and I get "dovecot start/running, process 4760". So I try "/etc/init.d/dovecot status" and I get "dovecot stop/waiting". So I tried "service dovecot start" and I get "dovecot start/running, process 4781". So I tried to get the status, so I tired "service dovecot status" and got "dovecot stop/waiting" Then I tired "/etc/init.d/dovecot start" and I get "dovecot start/running, process 4794".   I am trying to make a JDBC connection from a VirtualBox Ubuntu Guest OS to an Oracle XE database running o Host. However, the connection is refused. Here are the details of my environment: VirtualBox: 4.1.4 Host OS: Windows 7 Guest OS: Ubuntu server 11.4 Networking mode: Bridged network Oracle XE database running on Host Issue: WebLogic server runs on the Ubuntu virtualbox. It attempts to connect to an Oracle XE database running on the Host OS (windows 7) with listening port 1521. On the Guest OS (Ubuntu), I am able to ping the Host computer from the Guest OS. However, when I configured a JDBC data source on the WebLogic server on the Guest OS to connect to the Oracle XE, connection took a long time, and eventually I received an "IO Exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection". When I tried "telnet host-ip 1521", no connection was established. With Bridge networking, I can make bi-directional connections between the host and the guest OS (e.g. connection through ssh and ftp). Is there anything I missed in the setup of Bridge networking and the guest/host OS? Note that I was able to make the same connection within a normal networking environment (i.e. not using virtual box). I am not sure whether Bridge networking is a good option for the work described above. Should I use host-only networking mode? If so, any specific configurations I need to perform? I read through the Virtual box document on setting up the host-only network, however, it lacks of details. I followed the procedures described in the manual, and couldn't even connect to the host. • two computers on same network cannot ping eachother nor view NetBios resources

  I'd like to find out the problem of my network configuration I have network configuration is like in this diagram: The problem is between laptop1 and laptop2. At first I thought it was samba server problem. I was configuring samba server on one of the laptops and I wasn't able to access the shares from the second laptop no matter what I was doing. After installing/removing/configuring samba-server a couple of times I realized that the problem resides somewhere else. Laptop configurations: - Laptop1: ubuntu 12.04 - Laptop2: Windows 7/ ubuntu 12.04 ( dual boot ) - Server : ubuntu 12.04 When I do "ping 192.168.0.10" from laptop2, I get "Destination host unreachable". The same situation is when I ping in other direction. When I access Laptop1 shares from Laptop2, having windows 7 loaded, I get the error message: "Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found." When I ping "server" or "router" or "wifi router" from any of laptops I get a reply. The same with windows shares, I am able to access "server"s shares from Windows and Ubuntu, from any of my laptops. Netbios can't function correctly, that's obvious, I am unable to access windows shares between laptops. I assume that on "wifi router" is a miss-configuration, but I can't find what specifically. The "Wifi router" works as Hub + wifi, it is connected to "router" not in WAN port but in LAN1. Please, help me correctly configure the router to make them see each-other, or at least make NetBios work correctly, between laptops, to be able to access windows shares. Thanks!

  I had a simple plone site running on my Ubuntu 8.10 box, setup by following instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/forum/server/Plone Now the computer got an Ubuntu 9.04 install from scratch, and I want to get the site up and running. As far as I understand several python libraries from 9,04 are not compatible with plone. I actually don't care about plone, I just found it easy to use. My site is just photo and video archive of several users, with low traffic but several gigabytes of data. What would you suggest? Is it easier to get plone working on my box and start my instance(how?), or recover the content from the instance folder(how?) and setup another content management system(which?)

• Unzipping archives, preserving folder hierarchy

  I've got a problem and am not sure what it is, but hope someone can help me think this through because this has me stumped. Backstory: I wrote a Java app (Android) that unzips some zip files downloaded from the network. Until now, this was working great. Then, this week, the archives that I'm creating on my pc (in Ubuntu 12.04) unzip on the Android phone into a flat hierarchy instead of preserving the folders. I'm creating the archives the same way (right-click on folder compress) but even though my old archives (created in 10.04) still unzip as expected, the new ones don't. On Ubuntu, the new zip files look the same to me as the old ones. When unzipped on my pc the folders in these new archives are restored the same as the old ones... it's the Android app that extracts the old ones fine and the new ones flat. What I really want to know, though, is what the difference between the archives is. Question: How could one determine why one zip archive would be extracted with folder hierarchy preserved, when an identical one (to all appearances on Ubuntu 12.04) is extracted with no hierarchy? Are there different ways in which a .zip file can "have" folders, but Ubuntu doesn't distinguish between them?

• OpenVPN - Ubunut 10.04 - Client Can't Connect to Server - Linux Route Add Command Failed

  I suppose this could be asked on Server Fault as well, but it is specific to the client so I thought I'd start here. I have keys for a OpenVPN server already in place. I have used these keys to connect already, but using a Windows XP machine.
