  • Code management in different projects with different svn repositories

    First of all I want to tell you what kind of system I have and I want to build on. 1- A Solution (has) a- Shared Class Library project (which is for lots of different solutions) b- Another Class Library project (which is only for this solution) c- Web Application project (which main part of this solution) d- Shared Web Service project (which also serves for different solutions) 2- B Solution (has) a- Shared Class Library project (which is for lots of different solutions) c- Windows Form Application project (which is main part of this solution) d- Web Service project (which also serves for different solutions) and other projects like that.... I am using xp-dev.com as our svn repository server. And I opened different projects for these items (Shared Class Library, Web Service project, Windows Form Application project, Web Application project, Another Class Library project) . I want to do the versioning of all these projects of course. My first question is, should I put each project(one solution) to one svn repository to get their revision number later on? Or should I put each of them to different svn repository and keep( write down) their correct version number that is used to publish/deploy every solution? If I use one svn for each project(Shared Class Lib, Web App, Shared Web Service....) how can I relate the right svn address and version on VS.2010 within the real solution? So, how do you manage your repositories and projects?

  • EXE stops working if containing folder is renamed. MSVCP90.dll

    This popup comes up as soon as the app is started: The program can't start because MSVCP90.dll is missing from your computer. Before anyone says "install the VC++ runtimes", wait! If I rename the folder containing my .EXE then the app runs. If I rename it back, it breaks. The app has been running for weeks without any changes to my system/VS installation (2008 SP1), we suddenly spotted this error a few days ago. Lost as to why the name of the dir is causing issues... again this has not changed in months and all our resource paths are relative anyway, e.g "../someOtherDir/...." It doesn't just do this on my PC, we have the /bin dir (the one containing EXE) in SVN and suddenly everyone started seeing the same issue, even though the binaries themselves seem just fine. Is it possible some additional data got put into SVN and that's the cause? Since it's not just one PC, there must be something either in SVN or the EXE itself... Note this popup comes before our code even gets to run.

    I'm getting the following error in my MVC2 app using Linq to SQL (I am new to both). I am connected to an actual SQL server not weird mdf: System.InvalidOperationException The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Int64 which is a non-nullable value type My SQL table has a column called MessageID. It is BigInt type and has a primary key, NOT NULL and an IDENTITY 1 1, no Default In my dbml designer it has the following declaration for this field: [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ColumnAttribute(Storage="_MessageId", AutoSync=AutoSync.OnInsert, DbType="BigInt NOT NULL IDENTITY", IsPrimaryKey=true, IsDbGenerated=true)] public long MessageId { get { return this._MessageId; } set { if ((this._MessageId != value)) { this.OnMessageIdChanging(value); this.SendPropertyChanging(); this._MessageId = value; this.SendPropertyChanged("MessageId"); this.OnMessageIdChanged(); } } } It keeps telling me that null cannot be assigned - I'm not passing through null! It's a long - it can't even be null! Am I doing something stupid? I can't find a solution anywhere!   • How do I get ELMAH to work with SQL Server (permission problems)

    I've got ELMAH working on my (Cassini) development server, and was quite happy with it, but now that I'm trying to move everything to my production server (IIS7), the honeymoon looks like being over. I've got past the "gotcha" with IIS7, which frankly could have been better highlighted in the documentation, and if I just use the in-memory log then it works. However, I'm trying to get it to use the SQL Server log (as I do on my development system), and I'm getting an error along the lines of: The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object ELMAH_GetErrorsXml Well, fine. I know how to grant database permissions, but I'm really struggling to understand which user and which stored procs/tables I need to grant access to. The thing that's really confusing me is that I didn't have to do anything like this to get it to work on my development server. The only difference I can see is that on my development server it seems to connect as NT AUTHORITY\IUSR, whereas on my production server it seems to connect as NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE. (It's just using a trusted connection so I've not explicitly configured it to do that - I presume it's to do with the web server). UPDATE: I've since established that because I'm using Cassini, it was actually logging in as me (an admin) and not IUSR, which explains why I didn't get any permission problems. On my development server, the IUSR account is a member of the public database role, and has access to the required database (again as "public"). There's no explicit granting of object-level permissions. [See update above - this is irrelevant]. On my production server, I've added NETWORK SERVICE in exactly the same way (public database role, explicit access to the database as "public"). Yet, I get this permission error. Why?!! [See update above - the only reason I don't get a permission error is because I'm running as an admin]. And, of course, if the fact that it works locally is just "luck", I will need to know which SPs/tables to grant access to. My guess would be all 3 SPs and not the table, but it would be good (again) to see some documentation that makes this explicit.

    I am using VS 2010 on a win 7 64 bit system with 8 GB of memory. My application is 32 bit. While in the VS 2010 .Net IDE, the app shows up in the Windows task manager as "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" while the VS IDE itself shows up as "devenv.exe *32". I checked and it appears that the VS 2010 IDE file (devenv.exe) is complied with the /LargeAddressAware flag. However, when debugging large models, the IDE fails with an Out of memory exception. In the Windows Task manager, the "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" process indicates about 1400 MB of memory usage (while the "devenv.exe *32" process is well under 500 MB). Is it possible to set the "MyApp.vshost.exe *32" process to be /LargeAddressAware in order to avoid this out of memory situation? If so, how can this be done in the IDE. While setting the final application binary to be /LargeAddressAware would work, I still need to be able to debug the app in the IDE with these type of large models. I should also note that my app has a deep object hierarchy with many collections that together required a lot of memory. However, my issue is not related to trying to create say 1 large array that requires greater then 2 GB of memory etc. I should note that I am able to run the same app in the VB6 IDE and not get an out of memory situation as long as the VB6 IDE is made /LargeAddressAware. In the case of VB6, the IDE and the app being debugged are part of the same process (and not split into 2 as is the case with VS 2010.) The VB6 process can be larger then 3 GB without running into out of memory issues. Ultimately, my objective is to have my app run completely in 64 bit to access more memory. I am hoping that in such cases, the IDE will allow the debugging process to exceed 2 GB without crashing (and certainly more then 1.4 GB as is the current case). However, for now, while 95% of my app is 64 bit, I am calling a legacy COM 32 bit DLL and as such, my entire app is forced to still run in 32 bit mode until I replace that DLL.

    I am just learning MVVM with MEF and already see the benefits but I am a little confused about some implementation details. The app I am building has several Models that do the same with with different entities (WCF RIA Services exposing a Entity framework object) and I would like to avoid implementing a similar interface/model for each view I need and the following is what I have come up with though it currently doesn't work. The common interface has a new completed event for each model that implements the base model, this was the easiest way I could implement a common class as the compiler did not like casting from a child to the base type. The code as it currently sits compiles and runs but the is a null IModel being passed into the [ImportingConstructor] for the FaqViewModel class.     I am trying to build a webservice that manipulates http requests POST and GET. Most online references show making a website, but really, all I want to do is respond when an HttpPost is sent. I don't know what to put in the website, just want that code to run. I have the website set up, I have the code for the handler in a .cs file, i have edited the web.config to add the handler for the file extension I need. Now I am at the step 3 where you tell IIS about this extension and map it to ASP.NET. Also I am using IIS 7 so interface is slightly different than the screenshots. This is the problem I have: 1) Go to website 2) Go to handler mappings 3) Go Add Script Map 4) request path - put the extension I want to handle 5) Executable- it seems i am told to set aspnet_isapi.dll here. Maybe this is incorrect? 6) Give name 7) Hit OK button: Add Script Map Do you want to allow this ISAPI extension? Click "Yes" to add the extension with an "Allowed" entry to the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions list or to update an existing extension entry to "Allowed" in the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions list. Yes No Cancel 8) Hit Yes Add Script Map The specified module required by this handler is not in the modules list. If you are adding a script map handler mapping, the IsapiModule or the CgiModule must be in the modules list. OK edit 2: Have just figured out that that managed handler had something to do with handlers witten in managed code, script map was to help configuring an executable and module mapping to work with http Modules. So I should be using option 1 - Add Managed Handler. In the applications folder (in IIS) so far I just have the MyHandler.cs and web.config (Of course also a file with the extension I am trying to create the handler for!) edit3: progress So now I have the code and the web.config set up I test to see If I can browse to the filename.CustomExtension file: HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration.   • Unable to host WCF service correctly in IIS7

    I have a WCF Service library written in .NET 4.0. I have a WCF application (in order to host this service in IIS) within the same solution. It contains the WCF library assembly reference and a service.svc file pointing to the service from the library along with a web.config that is a replica of the WCF service library's app.config. The WCF application is set to host the service in IIS7 (the virtual directory has been set). The same solution contains an ASP.NET Webforms solution to which I have added a service reference pointing to the WCF service I hosted in IIS (as mentioned). When i start an instance of this ASP.NET Web application, I get a message saying that "The WCF service has been hosted" and the ASP.NET application can access the data from it correctly. However, when i try and access this data via a service reference added to an MVC 2 Web Application on the same machine in a different solution (pointing to the service hosted in IIS), I get a "The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed." protocol exception . However, the MVC application is able to access the service data if I manually invoke an instance of the WCF Application that I was using to host the WCF Service Library from the other solution. I am using VS2010 Beta 2 as my development IDE. I have been stuck with this issue for a while now. Any help would be appreciated. (please dont give replies as 60 computers only! is not a big deal one CPU can manage it. i know that; IT IS A HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION WHERE WE ASSUME THAT 60 IS NOT 60 BUT ITS LIKE 60,000 COMPUTERS) 1a) make a web server, yes iis and put files in www folder and configure server to run aspx files- although a link to a step by step guide will be appreciated)\ ? which version of windows should i ask for xp or win server 2000 something? 2a) make a database server. ( well yes install sql server 2005, okay but then what? just put the database file on a pc share it and append the connection string to the share? ) 3a) make the site accessible from the remaining computers ? http://localhost/sitename ? all users "being operators of the particular lab" have the right to edit, write or delete(in dispute), thereby any "users" who hate our program can make the database inconsistent by accessing te same record and doing different edits and then complaining? so how to prevent this? you know something like when the db table is being written to others can only read but not write.. one big confusion:- IN DISTRIBUTED ENVIRONMENT "how to implement this" where does "distributed environment" come in! meaning :- alright the labs are in different departments but the "database server will be one" the "web server will be one" so whats distributed!?

    I went to the Environment Variables in 'System' in the control panel and made 2 new variables. one for user variables and one for system variables, both named JAVA_HOME and both pointing to C:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin but for some reason, I still get the below error when running a java command...   • Visual Studio 2010, TlbImp generates .net 4.0 interops in 2.0 projects

    In a C# project we add a reference to a COM object via the Add References setup pointing to a COM object which results in the IDE auto-generating the interop assembly. So this is fine and good, but we are building based on .net 3.5 SP1 aka CLR 2.0, and the generated interops are using the 4.0 CLR making them incompatible. Is there a way to prevent this? I assume the other option is configure our build script to try using tlbimp.exe with the /references parameter? to point to mscorlib v2.0? Anyhow, I'm hoping there's a flag somewhere to allow this.

  • Using Toad with 64bit Oracle Client and Windows 7 64bit Operating System

    After downloading the latest version of Toad for Windows 7 64bit, I am struggling to get it to connect to the database using the existing full Oracle Client that is already on the desktop. The Oracle Client that is there is a 64bit version and is version 12c. When running Toad it says that there is no Oracle Client installed. All of the environment variables have been set up to point to the Oracle Client I note from the attached link that when using Toad in a 64bit os that you have to use a 32bit client? Is this still the case? If not how do I get it to use the Oracle Client?     I am trying to write a generic extension to turn a ManagementObjectCollection into a DataTable. This is just to make things easier for a startup script/program I am writing. I have ran into a problem with CimType. However it seems to me like there may be a better way, or even a .net function I am overlooking.

However, if I run php -a, it works: php > echo `fortune`; Be careful of reading health books, you might die of a misprint. -- Mark Twain php > Am I missing a config directive or something that would cause this? Edit: So, I tried running my script using $ php-cgi fortunetest.php and it worked as expected. Maybe the issue is with Apache2?

  • ADO.NET Data Services Entity Framework request error when property setter is internal

    I receive an error message when exposing an ADO.NET Data Service using an Entity Framework data model that contains an entity (called "Case") with an internal setter on a property. If I modify the setter to be public (using the entity designer), the data services works fine. I don’t need the entity "Case" exposed in the data service, so I tried to limit which entities are exposed using SetEntitySetAccessRule. This didn’t work, and service end point fails with the same error. public static void InitializeService(IDataServiceConfiguration config) { config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("User", EntitySetRights.AllRead); } The error message is reported in a browser when the .svc endpoint is called. It is very generic, and reads “Request Error. The server encountered an error processing the request. See server logs for more details.” Unfortunately, there are no entries in the System and Application event logs. I found this stackoverflow question that shows how to configure tracing on the service. After doing so, the following NullReferenceExceptoin error was reported in the trace log. Does anyone know how to avoid this exception when including an entity with an internal setter?
