• LDAP: Need login of application/servers from a certain group only

  We need to configure LDAP for login to different servers and applications. We have created all users and different groups as follows: dn: dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local ou: people dn: uid=geo,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: uid=user,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: cn=server,ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local member: uid=geo,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: cn=website,ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local member: uid=user,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local We need scenario in such a way that the users that are member of server need only login to server (that is geo) and users that are member of website need only login to websites (That is user “user”). Please let me know how we can configure it. For login site we tried by giving DN as cn=website,ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local and Login Attribute as uid and also member but it is not working. Can anyone please help us on it. Also please let us know is there any other option for accomplish this scenario. Thanks Geo

• Source code not matching uploaded HTML file

  I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but i'm having a hugely frustrating problem with Coda and my website (i'm not sure which one is causing the issue) I'm using Coda to make changes to my website, Coda uses built in FTP to save changes to your web page. So when you hit Save, it uploads the new file. I've been using Coda for months and never had a problem until now. I am making changes in the html of my index.php and hitting save, it's successfully uploading the file but no changes are reflected in the source code in ANY browser. I even logged into cPanel on my website, ie. www.example.com:2082 and looked at the file - the changes have been made successfully. But the actual webpage in browser's source code, no changes?? I have tried adding which made no difference. Interestingly i make changes to style.css and the changes are instant. I have emptied the cache on all of my browsers but i'm still having an issue. Does this sound like a Coda problem or has anyone heard of such a thing?

• Learning low latency C++ and Java?

  I'm currently in a role where I dont get to write any C++ or Java. However, the role is good because provides me with exposure to the business side (i'm interested in finance). Eventually I would like to get into high frequency trading infrastructure. Therefore, outside of work hours i'd like to maximise the knowledge I can gain about high performance Java and C++. I already have the Java Performance Tuning book, which is ok but not impressive. Can people recommend anymore latency blogs/books/websites for learning about making C++/C/Java or even Unix very fast? Or perhaps making the network parts of the OS (if re-writing Unix components) faster? EDIT: Or perhaps we could make this THE thread for advice on writing fast code

• Is it possible that Unity would some day switch back to Mutter?

  I remembered that the first Unity was indeed built on Mutter, but later ported to Compiz due to poor performance. I also know Canonical practically incorporated Compiz to work closely for future Unity, so this is getting less likely. But Compiz just seems pretty outdated now that GNOME3/GTK3/Mutter is becoming more mainstreamed, and it is known to deliver some performance issue, but on the other hand Mutter seems pretty good and is still steadily developing now, I'm just wondering if anyone related to the project is still testing and evaluating the possibility of Unity on Mutter? Not that you have to tell me now if you're going to do it or not. I just wanna know if anyone is considering it. Thanks.

• In a browser, is it best to use one huge spritesheet or many (10000) different PNG's?

  I'm creating a game in jQuery, where I use about 10000 32x32 tiles. Until now, I have been using them all separately (no sprite sheet). An average map uses about 2000 tiles (sometimes re-used PNG's but all separate divs) and the performance ranges from stable (Chrome) to a bit laggy (Firefox). Each of these divs are positioned absolutely using CSS. They do not need to be updated every tick, just when a new map is loaded. Would it be better for performance to use spritesheet methods for the divs using CSS background-positioning, like gameQuery does? Thank you in advance!

• Unified data source for k2 installed Joomla websites

  I am responsible for a few web sites of my organization. I use Joomla! 2.5.9 for those web sites. They all are running at the same server. I use K2 component for content managing. I have a general website in which shows all the staff information at the 'Staff' page. Also some of those people and their contents are shown in another department's website. So, there are databases for each web site. For example: In the general website (let's say general.org), when I click on the 'Staff' menu item, page shows all of the people work at my organization. Also they work at different departments. In another web site (eg: education.general.org) when I click on the 'Staff' menu item, it shows the people work at education department. But for each web site, I have different user accounts which means a modification in one of them does not affect the other one. If the one of the education staff tries to change his profile picture on the education web site, he also has to do it on the general web site. And sometimes one person might be working at two departments. Thus he has to edit three times of his data. Is it possible to merge the records for all websites? In other words, I want everyone to insert/update their data on the general web site, and the other web sites will be updated automatically.

  I use a Nvidia Quadro NVS 290/PCIe/SSE2 at work with dual monitor setup. Since 11.10 things has gone downwards with performance. But now with 12.04 performance is even worse, and I can agree that the 290 is old and puny. So when I look what low profile cards I can get to my computer today, the choice it Radeon HD 6570 or NVIDIA Quadro 600. I have always used Nvidia on linux beq I think that historically their drivers worked better. But which one do you recommend today on 12.04 and Unity3d? -- Regards Falk

People launch up their own server using VPS or dedicated server and distribute online service among players disclaiming it has educational purposes only, saying they are studying the game engine and selling items for players disclaming it as 'donations', so it seems like they are getting donations to keep studying. We all know it's a comercial method. All of it is copyrighted material from enterprise ABCD. (ABCD = Fictional name, I'm not mentioning names). At their website they include the following: "Private Server XXXX" does not allow/support any conection to any company/organization associated with the game "XXXX". If you are anyway affiliated with enterprise "XXXXXXX", or any other company/organization associated with the game "XXXX" you may not view/open/read/execute/play/download any part of "Private Server XXXX" nor view "Private Server XXXX" website, if any company/organization requests you to investigate our website/server, you may not view "Private SERVER XXXX" or execute any action mentioned above. While doing so, I've noticed that there are some cases in the API outline where a more intuitive, readable attribute/method call requires some functionally unnecessary encapsulation. Since the final product will not necessarily require high performance, I am unconcerned about making the decision to favour ease-of-use in my current project over the most efficient implementation of the code in question. I know not to assume readability and ease-of-use are paramount in all expected use-cases, such as when performance is required. I would like to know if there are more general reasons that argue for an API design preferring (marginally) more efficient implementations?

• Why do my websites have a first page rank on Bing and Yahoo but not Google? [closed]

  I have 3 websites suffering from a drop in ranking with Google and hence a huge drop in traffic. The instant drop ocurred in September and I have not been able to remedy it. For the past 6-10 years my main website http://LearnToSail.Net has ranked from #3 to #1 on the 1st page of Google and all the other engines with the search term "learn to sail" Now it shows on the 1st page of Bing and Yahoo but does not show up on ANY pages of Google. The only way it does come up is if I add "cd" to the "learn to sail" phrase. We sell a sailing cd on that website. The other websites are http://LearnToSailOnLine.com ..search terms are "learn to sail online" or learntosailonline and historyofthepilgrims.com search terms are "history of the pilgrims" "historyofthepilgrims" I get the same result. Gone on Google but 1st pages for Bing and Yahoo. I have researched, edited,updated blogs, made sitemaps, prayed to the universe and use Google Webmaster tools but nothing is changing and I have lost alot of business. I host with 1and1.com and have been back and forth with them but to no avail and no change in traffic. I thought maybe some DNS mapping was off. I used to have alot of traffic now I have hardly any. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am still in the process of working on the issue of course! This is a really great website here and I am glad I came across it. • Using ASP.NET, Membership, and jQuery to Determine Username Availability

  Chances are, at some point you've tried creating a new user account on a website and were told that the username you selected was already taken. This is especially common on very large websites with millions of members, but can happen on smaller websites with common usernames, such as people's names or popular words or phrases in the lexicon of the online community that frequents the website. If the user registration process is short and sweet, most users won't balk when they are told their desired username has already been taken - they'll just try a new one. But if the user registration process is long, involving several questions and scrolling, it can be frustrating to complete the registration process only to be told you need to return to the top of the page to try a different username. Many websites use Ajax techniques to check whether a visitor's desired username is available as soon as they enter it (rather than waiting for them to submit the form). This article shows how to implement such a feature in an ASP.NET website using Membership and jQuery. This article includes a demo available for download that implements this behavior in an ASP.NET WebForms application that uses the CreateUserWizard control to register new users. • iis windos authentication way to turn off password prompt

  IIS noobie here. I have an intranet website hosted by IIS (6? I'll check after the weekend) that is set to Windows Authentication. Whenever there is some sort of authentication failure, the website gives the user a windows account sort of password prompt and doesn't display a 403 (or 401 or whatever) page unless the user cancels the prompt. However, entering a password is never, ever a use case for this website. Is there a way to turn off the password prompt and just display the error page? Bonus: are there any good hooks for this precise point for code that would do diagnosis and logging?
