  • What filesystem comes closest to matching NTFS for support of ACLs, and highly-granular permissioning?

    - by warren
It seems that most other filesystems handle the basic *nix permissions (ugo±rwx), with maybe an addition here or there. Or can be "made" to handle ACLs through the use of other tools on top of the system. On the wikipedia pages about filesystems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List%5Fof%5Ffile%5Fsystems & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison%5Fof%5Ffile%5Fsystems), it appears that while some do support extended meta-data, none support natively the level of permissioning that NTFS does. Am I wrong in this understanding?

  • Windows 7 / IIS 7 / Classic ASP not working

    - by Lucenut
I have some old classic asp scripts. They used to work on my 2003/IIS 6 server. But on my Vista/IIS 7 and now Windows 7 Ultimate/IIS 7 server the asp pages don't work. I did what they said here: Deploying a Classic ASP Server (IIS 7) (Microsoft TechNet). I enabled those 3 features in IIS 7 but that just went from getting 404 to 500 error.

  • can symbolic links be used within App-V packages

    - by user765827
We use the stats package SPSS through App-V however although it allows use of custom dialogs and macros, these must be placed in a sub folder within the app installation and so this means that users cannot add new macros. Is it possible to have an App-V package include a symbolically linked folder to point to a different place so that this remote folder could be updated easily without necessitating a rebuild and redeployment of the package? Thanks

  • Cost of running colour laser printers.

    - by Ian Ringrose
Has anyone got a good list of the costs of running colour laser printers, both for colour and black that take into account different usage volumes. E.g if the dram needs replacing after 20,000 pages, but I am only do 10,000 in the next 3 years, I don’t care about the cost of a new dram. So a simple “cost per page” figure is each printer is not good enough to be useful in real life. (A spread sheet / website that I could type my own usage values into would be great.)

  • Page layout software that allows mixed visual and programatic editing

    - by Justin Love
I'd like to use a programming model for custom graphics and precision placement, and an interactive visual mode for large scale layout and less precise placements. I've used tools (PostScript, various vector drawing programs) that do one of these modes well, but leave me pining for the other model. Which tools should I be investigating? I'm currently on OS X. Examples: Creating diagrams with precise spacing, sets of cards, either likely drawing from some sort of data.

  • How to clean green gunk off case fans?

    - by Wesley
Hi all, I just bought a used custom-built computer locally. In the process of checking the hardware, I notice that the case fans have accumulated a lot of green "gunk" and I've tried wetting the edge of a paper towel to wipe and rub it off. Still, there is always some residue remaining. What's the best way to clean off this gunk? Thanks in advance. No pictures, but I can take some if needed.

  • How to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (cmd)?

    - by alex
Is it possible to change the default terminal emulator on Windows (7 and 8 in particular) from cmd to, for example, Console2 or ConEmu? In essence, I want all command line tools, whether launched by double clicking, from "Run" or by other processes to use the custom terminal. This is a trivial matter on Linux, is it even possible on Windows? It would be especially helpful if this could be done via a script.

  • After exiting, the home folder cannot be visited?

    - by Keating Wang
I ssh to a ubuntu sever, start a web project(Rails), then I can visit this project. I close the the ssh terminal, then the project says can not find files(view pages, css files and so on). I put the project in the home folder(/home/byht). why? When closing the ssh terminal, the user's folder can not be visited ? You know, when I put the project in another folder(/usr/local), everything goes well.

  • How to map PageDown and PageUp Keys to function normally

    - by mtk
When I open a document using vi or vim, I am unable to navigate the page using Page Up and Page Down keys. On pressing these keys, vim seems to behave in abnormal maaner, and changes the case of character beneath the cursor. It then takes few seconds to come back again in insert mode. Please let me know, how to map these keys, so that on pressing them I can scroll through pages smoothly just like Ctrl+ (f / b / u / d ).

  • Adjust colours in a PDF

    - by user1035
I'd like to make colour adjustments to an existing PDF file, the equivalent of Photoshop's adjustments, and save a new version with the altered colours. I'm after more than a colourspace conversion. I'd like to take a file that's black and white, and convert it into green, blue, yellow, pink etc versions. It's upwards of 100 pages full of text and graphic elements, so doing it by hand isn't really an option. Is there any way of achieving this?

  • Website & Forum sharing the same login credentials ?

    - by Brian
I am going to be running a small site (100 hits a week maybe) and I am looking for a quick and easy way to share login information between the main website, a control panel (webmin, cpanel, or something), and the forum. One login needed to access any of the three. The website won't have use for the login, per say. But it will display "logged in" when you are on the website. Any custom solutions, any thoughts, logic, examples?

  • How can I migrate all keyboard shortcuts from one mac to another?

    - by cwd
I have a lot of custom keyboard shortcuts and will be migration Macs. I tested Migration Assistant and it did not seem to get these. I read somewhere that they are stored in the individual application's plist files in the ~/Library/Application Support folder but even after copying a few of these folders over the shortcuts do not seem to follow. How can I get all of the keyboard shortcuts migrated to a new mac?

  • nginx + apache subdomain redirection fault

    - by webwolf
    i really need your advice folks since i'm experiencing some troubles with nginx & apache2 subdomains configs first of all, there's a site (say, site.com) and two subdomains (links.site.com and shop.site.com) whose files are physically located at the same level of FS hierarchy as the site.com itself my hoster has configured both apache and nginx by my request, but it still doesn't work as it used to both of subdomains point to the main page of site.com for some unknown and implicit (for me) reason :( my assumption is that's happen because site.com record is placed first in both configs?!.. please help me solve this out! every opinion would be appreciated =) nginx.conf: server { listen 95.169.187.234:80; server_name site.com www.site.com ; access_log /home/www/site.com/logs/nginx.access.log main; location ~* ^.+\.(jpeg|jpg|gif|png|ico|css|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|pdf|ppt|txt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf|js|swf|avi|mp3|mpg|mpeg|asf|vmw)$ { expires 30d; root /home/www/site.com/www; } #error_page 404 /404.html; # redirect server error pages to the static page /50x.html # error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root html; } # deny access to .htaccess files, if Apache's document root # concurs with nginx's one # location ~ /\.ht { deny all; } location / { set $referer $http_referer; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Referer $referer; proxy_set_header Host $host; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 64k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } server { listen 95.169.187.234:80; server_name links.site.com www.links.site.com ; access_log /home/www/links.site.com/logs/nginx.access.log main; location ~* ^.+\.(jpeg|jpg|gif|png|ico|css|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|pdf|ppt|txt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf|js|swf|avi|mp3|mpg|mpeg|asf|vmw)$ { expires 30d; root /home/www/links.site.com/www; } #error_page 404 /404.html; # redirect server error pages to the static page /50x.html # error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root html; } # deny access to .htaccess files, if Apache's document root # concurs with nginx's one # location ~ /\.ht { deny all; } location / { set $referer $http_referer; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Referer $referer; proxy_set_header Host $host; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 64k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } server { listen 95.169.187.234:80; server_name shop.site.com www.shop.site.com ; access_log /home/www/shop.site.com/logs/nginx.access.log main; location ~* ^.+\.(jpeg|jpg|gif|png|ico|css|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|pdf|ppt|txt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf|js|swf|avi|mp3|mpg|mpeg|asf|vmw)$ { expires 30d; root /home/www/shop.site.com/www; } #error_page 404 /404.html; # redirect server error pages to the static page /50x.html # error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root html; } # deny access to .htaccess files, if Apache's document root # concurs with nginx's one # location ~ /\.ht { deny all; } location / { set $referer $http_referer; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Referer $referer; proxy_set_header Host $host; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 64k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } httpd.conf: # ServerRoot "/usr/local/apache2" PidFile /var/run/httpd.pid Timeout 300 KeepAlive On MaxKeepAliveRequests 100 KeepAliveTimeout 15 Listen 127.0.0.1:8080 NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:8080 ... #Listen *:80 NameVirtualHost *:80 ServerName www.site.com ServerAlias site.com UseCanonicalName Off CustomLog /home/www/site.com/logs/custom_log combined ErrorLog /home/www/site.com/logs/error_log DocumentRoot /home/www/site.com/www AllowOverride All Options +FollowSymLinks Options -MultiViews Options -Indexes Options Includes Order allow,deny Allow from all DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php ServerName www.links.site.com ServerAlias links.site.com UseCanonicalName Off CustomLog /home/www/links.site.com/logs/custom_log combined ErrorLog /home/www/links.site.com/logs/error_log DocumentRoot /home/www/links.site.com/www AllowOverride All Options +FollowSymLinks Options -MultiViews Options -Indexes Options Includes Order allow,deny Allow from all DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php ServerName www.shop.site.com ServerAlias shop.site.com UseCanonicalName Off CustomLog /home/www/shop.site.com/logs/custom_log combined ErrorLog /home/www/shop.site.com/logs/error_log DocumentRoot /home/www/shop.site.com/www AllowOverride All Options +FollowSymLinks Options -MultiViews Options -Indexes Options Includes Order allow,deny Allow from all DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php # if DSO load module first: LoadModule rpaf_module modules/mod_rpaf-2.0.so RPAFenable On RPAFsethostname On RPAFproxy_ips 127.0.0.1 RPAFheader X-Forwarded-For Include conf/virthost/*.conf

  • Summing of total with dynamics rows coming external datasource

    - by Gainster
I am using Excel 2010 and retrieving data from SQL analysis service. When I refresh the data from Excel, the rows all refresh as they are bound to an external datasource. I am adding a separate column with a formula to sum the totals. With an increment or decrement of these rows, the alignment of custom columns goes out. How can I resolve this problem that summing of values become dynamic with adding and removal of rows?

  • How to get GlassFish to respond over IPv6?

    - by Brian Knoblauch
I've got GlassFish v3 installed on a Windows 2008R2 server, and it works great over IPv4, but is not even listening on IPv6. The wiki says "Yes it supports IPv6" but doesn't go into any detail on how to turn it on. Been flipping around in the admin pages, but I don't seen any options I recognize.

  • How to set ulimits for a service starting at boot?

    - by jayofdoom
I need, for mysql to use large-pages, to set a ulimit - I've done this in limits.conf. However, limits.conf (pam_limits.so), doesn't get read in for init, only for "real" shells. I solved this before by adding a "ulimit -l" to the initscript start function. but I need some sort of repeatable way to do this, now that the boxes are managed with chef, and we don't want to take over a file that's actually owned by the RPM.

  • How do I password protect my printer in Windows 7?

    - by Dillie-O
I have two young kids who have gotten rather computer saavy. They love playing their games, especially when it allows them to print out awards or coloring pages. Unfortunately this means that in the time it takes to refresh my cup of coffee, they can easily drop a 10 page document into the printer queue, and my printer ink runs out rather fast. How would I setup some kind of password protection on the printing, so that I would have to do some kind of final approval before they get their printouts?

  • In Windows 7, is there a way to know how much memory a service is using?

    - by tigrou
In windows 7, is there a way (by using common interface or a custom utility) to know how much memory a specific windows service is using ? It seems most services are hosted by svchost.exe processes ( some svchosts.exe processes seems to host tons of services). While it is possible to know which services are hosted by a specific process, I found no way to get information about how much memory a service take.

  • How can I create my own Android Home Screen Launcher

    - by Sam_k
I want to know how I can create my own customised home screen for Android. I have used Viewpager to add and remove screens from the home screen, creating 5 screens as default, and then adding and removing further pages in with ViewPager. I have tried both Viewpager and PagerAdapter, as per this link. Is this the best approach so that in future I can add widgets and shortcuts with viewpager and make a launcher icon?
