Difference in clientX and clientY when going out of the browser on ie/ff

I just ran into a little problem with clientX and clientY. I put a little event to detect if the mouse goes out of the window and to know where it exits. And there come the trouble, it works fine with firefox, but only sends -1 as an answer in IE. Does someone know if there is a way to solve easily that problem and that without using a framework? I have a chat webpage for Firefox that is structured like this ..... Outer HTML -----|......Frameset Frame ------------|...... header: contains jQuery post has returned data: rdata = new_iFrame_html_str, the entire html string of the iFrame that should be updated ------------|...... iFrame --------------------|...... header: contains jQuery --------------------|...... body: chat messages that depends on the header jQuery to behave properly QUESTION: I can't this jQuery post to work, i.e. I can't find a way for this post to update the ENTIRE iFrame (header + body). Convert long/lat to pixel x/y on a given picure.

I have a city "map" (for example - Moscow). She in accuracy repeats the contours the given city in google maps (that is it is copied from google maps and it is a little processed, but the sense remained the same). Also I have object co-ordinates in a city (in co-ordinates of google). Problem: how to convert google co-ordinates to the co-ordinates of my picture (that is in pixels on OX and OY on a picture). That is I receive google-co-ordinates and it is necessary for me to draw this point on my picture. The most desired variant of the answer - is based on javascript, but it is possible and on php. I know that on small scales (for example on city scales) it to make simply enough (it is necessary to learn what google-co-ordinates has one of picture corners, then to learn "price" of one pixel in google-co-ordinates on a picture on axes OX and OY separately). But on the big scales (country scale) "price" of one pixel will be not a constant, and will vary strongly enough and the method described above cannot be applied. How to solve a problem on country scales?

What can I do to get Mozilla Firefox to preload the eventual image result?

I am attempting to preload images using JavaScript. I have declared an array as follows with image links from different places: var imageArray = new Array(); imageArray[0] = new Image(); imageArray[1] = new Image(); imageArray[2] = new Image(); imageArray[3] = new Image(); imageArray[0].src = "http://www.bollywoodhott.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/arjun-rampal.jpg"; imageArray[1].src = "http://labelleetleblog.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/josie-maran.jpg"; imageArray[2].src = "http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_22EXDJCJp3s/SxbIcZHTHTI/AAAAAAAAIXc/fkaDiOKjd-I/s400/black-male-model.jpg"; imageArray[3].src = "http://www.iill.net/wp-content/uploads/images/hot-chick.jpg"; The image fade and transformation effects that I am doing using this array work properly for the first 3 images, but for the last one, imageArray[3], the actual image data of the image does not get preloaded and it completely ruins the effect, since the actual image data loads AFTERWARDS, only at the time it needs to be displayed, it seems. This happens because the last link http://www.iill.net/wp-content/uploads/images/hot-chick.jpg is not a direct link to the image. If you go to that link, your browser will redirect you to the ACTUAL location. Now, my image preloading code in Chrome works perfectly well, and the effects look great. Because it seems that Chrome preloads the actual data - the EVENTUAL image that is to be shown. This means that in Chrome if I preloaded an image that will redirect to 'stop stealing my bandwidth', then the image that gets preloaded is 'stop stealing my bandwidth'. How can I modify my code to get Firefox to behave the same way?

Controlling CodeModel's code output formatting: putting lines between namespace declarations

I'm making some experiments with Visual Studio's CodeModel. I tried creating a file with two namespaces in there through VS's Code Model: CodeModel codeModel = projItem.ContainingProject.CodeModel; codeModel.AddNamespace("Namespaces.FirstNamespace", "namespacestest.cs"); codeModel.AddNamespace("Namespaces.SecondNamespace", "namespacestest.cs"); the output of such code is: //file namespacestest.cs namespace Namespaces.FirstNamespace { } namespace Namespaces.SecondNamespace { } Which is almost what I'm looking for. The only catch here is that I'd like to control the spacing: having at least one line between the first and the second namespace. Does by chance anyone know of a way of achieving this? Generate random number from an arbitrary weighted list

Here's what I need to do, I'll be doing this both in PHP and JavaScript. I have a list of numbers that will range from 1 to 300-500 (I haven't set the limit yet). I will be running a drawing were 10 numbers will be picked at random from the given range. Here's the tricky part: I want some numbers to be less likely to be drawn up. A small set of those 300-500 will be flagged as "lucky numbers". For example, out of 100 drawings, most numbers have equal chances of being drawn, except for a few, that will only be picked once every 30-50 drawings. Basically I need to artificially set the probability of certain numbers to be picked while maintaining an even distribution with the rest of the numbers. The only similar thing I've found so far is this question: Generate A Weighted Random Number, the problem being that my spec has considerably more numbers (up to 500) so the weights would get very small and supposedly this could be a problem with that solution (Rejection Sampling). I'm still trying it, though, but I wonder if there other solutions. Math is not my thing so I appreciate any input. Thanks.

XMLHttpRequest() and outputting csv file

Initially, I developed a javascript function to use window.open to post contents of a form to a new window which simply opened the new window and initiated a csv file download. Now on reflection, I find the opening of the window superfluous and am trying to just execute a XMLHttpRequest() to download the csv. I am not getting what I want and I'm not 100% sure that I can so I thought I'd ask here for some assistance. When a form is submitted, I want to take all the form values and post them to another page which builds an SQL string and builds a csv based on the contents. Structuring the UI code of a single-page EXTjs Web app using Rails?

I’m in the process of creating a large single-page web-app using ext-js for the UI components with Rails on the backend. I’ve come to good solutions for transferring data using Whorm gem and Rails support of RESTful Resources. What I haven’t come to a conclusion on is how to structure the UI and business logic aspects of the application. I’ve had a look at a few options, including Netzke but haven’t seen anything that I really think fits my needs. How should a web-application that uses ext-js components, layouts, and controls in the browser and Rails on the server best implement UI component re-use, good organization, and maintainability while maintaining a flexible layout design. Specifically I’m looking for best-practice suggestions for structuring the code that creates and configures UI components (many UI config options will be based on user data) Should EXT classes be extended in static JS for often re-used customizations and then instantiated with various configuration options by generated JS within html partials? Should partials create javascript blocks that instantiate EXT components? Should partials call helpers that return ruby hashes for EXT component config which is then dumped to Json? Something else entirely? There are many options and I'd love to hear from people who've been down this road and found some methodology that worked for them.

How to "push" updates to individual cells in a (ASP.NET) web page table/grid?

I'm building something similar to a price comparison site. This will be developed in ASP.NET/WebForms/C#/.NET 3.5. The site will be used by the public, so I have no control over the client side - and the application isn't so central to their lives that they'll go out of their way to make it work. I want to have a table/grid that displays products in rows, vendors in columns, and prices in the cells. Price updates will be arriving (at the server) continuously, and I'd like to "push" any updates to the clients' browsers - ideally only updating what has changed. So, if Vendor A changes their price on Product B, I'd want to immediately update the relevant cell in all the browsers that are viewing this information. I don't want to use any browser plug-ins (e.g. Silverlight). Javascript is fine. What's the best approach to take? Presumably my options are: 1) have the client page continuously poll the server for updates, locate the correct cell and update it; or 2) have the server be able to send updates to all the open browser pages which are listening for these updates. The first one would seem the most plausible, but I don't want to constrain the assembled wisdom of the SO community. I'm happy to purchase any third party components (e.g. a grid) that might help with this. I already have the DevExpress grid/ajax components if they provide anything useful.

Dynamic table memory usage

Is there any change in the code I can use to solve this or is it a browser side problem?

Normals per index?

I have a pyramid which has 5 vertex and 18 indices. As I want to add normals to each face I just found solution for normals for each vertex. That means I can't use indices to define my pyramid I need to have 18 vertex (and 3 times the same vertex for the same point in space). There must be a solution to use normals not on vertex base but on index base. Form validation

Hi guys, I need to create a form that has many of the same fields, that have to be inserted into a database, but the problem I have is that if a user only fills in one or two of the rows, the form will still submit the blank data of the empty fields along with the one or two fields the user has filled in. How can I check for the rows that have not been filled in and leave them out of the query? or check for those that have been filled in and add them to the query. . . Dynamically add data stored in php to nested json

I am trying to dynamicaly generate data in json for jQuery gantt chart. I know PHP but am totally green with JavaScript. I have read dozen of solutions on how dynamicaly add data to json, and tried few dozens of combinations and nothing. Here is the json format: var data = [{ name: "Sprint 0", desc: "Analysis", values: [{ from: "/Date(1320192000000)/", to: "/Date(1322401600000)/", label: "Requirement Gathering", customClass: "ganttRed" }] },{ name: " ", desc: "Scoping", values: [{ from: "/Date(1322611200000)/", to: "/Date(1323302400000)/", label: "Scoping", customClass: "ganttRed" }] },  }]; now I have all data in php db result. I have tried without loop and replacing php variables with plain text just to check, but it did not work either. Displays chart without added items. If I add new item by adding it to the list of values, it works. So there is no problem with the Gantt itself or paths. Based on all above I assume the problem is with adding plain data to json. Can anyone please help me to fix it?

Why is search functionality not working on this page?

we deliver micro-site content for our client. Our content is injected into a wrapper that is supplied by another developer. To deliver our content we host the wrapper as well as the content. The user can access this at http://fundcentre.newireland.ie/ (try a search for 'bloxham') For the other content that is not ours, the other developer hosts a similar (though slightly different) wrapper and delivers the content. the user accesses this here: http://www.newireland.ie/ (try a search for 'bloxham') The wrapper contains a search box, which does not work for us but it works for the other developer. I took a look at the network traffic with FireBug but it appears that when I do the search from the wrapper that we're hosting, I'm getting a "407 Proxy Access Denied" error. My guess is their proxy has a problem with the fact that the search is being conducted from a page hosted outside the scope of their proxy. It was also suggested that there were javascript errors on the page that were preventing the search from executing but I can't see any. Also, I don't think I'd get as far as the proxy error if that was the case. I don't really understand this stuff too well though, so could somebody with a bit more experience please take a look and maybe shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

Basically, what I want is the exact link that is displayed in the grid to be opened when clicked. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Porting a web application to work in IE7

I'm developing a web application that uses lots of Javascript and CSS, both of my own creation and through third-party libraries. These include jQuery and Google Maps & Visualization JS APIs. I've been testing everything in Firefox 3. Things are peachy until it turns out the main target of this webapp is (cue sad trombone) IE7. I'm looking for caveats, advice, libraries, or other references to help make this transition as easy as possible (not that it's actually going to be easy). I've already tried IE7.js though it hasn't yet shown itself to be the silver bullet I was hoping for. I'm sure that it works as advertised, I think it's just not as all-encompassing as I'd like (example: colors like #4684EE and #DC3912, which are correctly rendered in FF3, are rendered as black in IE7, with or without IE7.js). Are there other libraries out there to help bring IE7 (more) in line with FF3? A corollary question: what debugger would you recommend for IE7? I'm currently using Firebug Lite, but it runs painfully slowly. Is there anything out there with similar features that I might have missed?

Greetings and Hello I am trying to put together a wordpress site, now because the content in the main div is going to be a different height with every page I need the navigation sidebar to stretch to the same height. So with a little javascript tom-foolery I can get the sidebar to be the same height with the following code function adjust(){ hgt=document.getElementById('content').offsetHeight; document.getElementById('sidebar').style.height=hgt+'px'; } window.onload=adjust; window.onresize=adjust; Now that's all good for a long page but if the content is smaller then the sidebar stuff gets all messy. posting a variable with jquery and receiving it on other page

I want to post a varible "id" to a page. I get NaN when I try to insert some HTML into a DIV element with jQuery

I am tring to display a text box when a element of class numObj is clicked. For some reason I get NaNNaNaNaNNaNNaNaNaN where I expect to the see the result of the searchForm variable in the code below. I know that NaN stands for Not a Number. What I don't understand is why is Javascript expecting a number? Is it posible to use "confirmit" to open new url in the same window?

I'm using a the confirmit java script function to redirect to a new url with a positive response. It doesn't do exactly what I want - and maybe I can't have exactly what I want. Here's what it does - onunload, with a positive response it opens the new url in a new window, which can be blocked by a pop-up blocker without the user even knowing, giving the impression that nothing happened. When it does open the new URL it opens in a new window making the desktop crowded. Its just not a great solution. What I want it to do - onunload I'd like it to open the new url in the same window and have it not be classified as a "pop-up" to be blocked. I tried switching to onbeforeunload.... nuthin. How do I select dynamic ids in this format?

I'm trying to select dynamic ids when a user types something into the input fields. My app spits out the input fields in the following format: <input id="student_1_first_name" /> <input id="student_1_last_name" /> <input id="student_2_first_name" /> <input id="student_2_last_name" /> <input id="student_3_first_name" /> <input id="student_3_last_name" /> etc. For example, I tried doing this to select the end of the id string: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function (){ $("input[id$=_first_name]").bind("keyup", run_some_function_here); run_some_function_here(); $("input[id$=_last_name]").bind("keyup", run_some_function_here); run_some_function_here(); } ); </script> When I do that, Jquery can't seem to select the input ids, so the functions don't run. Do you have any ideas on how I can select the ids correctly?
