• Jail user to home directory while still allowing permission to create and delete files/folders

  I'm trying to give a client SFTP access to the root directory of their site on my server (Ubuntu 10.10) so they can manager their website themselves. While I have been successful in jailing a user to a directory and giving them SFTP access; they are only allowed to create and delete new files in sub directories (the directories they own). This means that I must give them access to the parent directory to the root of their site. How can I limit them to the root of their site (for example public_html) while still allowing them the ability create and delete files. All the tutorials I have read suggest that the root must be the owner of the user's home directory, which prevents them from write access inside that directory. I'm relatively new to managing my own server so any advice would be very grateful. Many thanks.

• Firewall is blocking internet traffic to OpenVPN clients

  I have a virtual network setup with a Linux router/firewall connected to two private networks. An OpenVPN server in routing mode and a web server are in one of the networks. On the other are linux client machines which access the webserver and the Internet through the OpenVPN server. Also, external clients can access the OpenVPN from the Internet. The OpenVPN's server.conf is setup to use routing mode in udp, push DNS and routes to the network it is in so clients can access the webserver. Here are my very strict firewall rules. After connecting to the OpenVPN server, my clients can not access the Internet or the web server. When I allow FORWARD traffic to go through, it works just fine. The OpenVPN server has full internet connectivity. What firewall rule do I need to add to allow internet traffic to reach my clients?

• New Servers Active Directory and Exchange

  I have 3 Dell PowerEdge server, each with 2 quad-core processors. I am going to bring this office out of the stone-age network (P2P, share files on a flash drive, emails through Google, etc) and set up Active Directory and Exchange 2013. Our needs are not that great at the moment - our staff consists of approximately 40 people, and our network may eventually be managed by an external company. We need only one domain for our emails (though we may serve emails for a few other partners domains as well). I was thinking of setting something up like this: Server 1: Primary DC. Active Directory and Exchange on separate virtual machines. Server 2: Redundant of server 1. Server 3: Shared resources, storage, backups, etc. How would you utilize 3 servers for an Active Directory / Exchange setup for a small/medium office? We do have plans to grow, so my solution must be scalable, though I'm not sure that I want to split permissions, though I'd consider it if that was something that could be changed on down the road.

The VPS should only have 5Gb of disk space but df reports 466Gb. How can I view the correct amount of disk space?

• remove an open wifi of a service provider near my house

  I'm using Win 7. There is an access point of a service provider wifi near my house. The wifi is not free and not WEB/WPA protected. Everyone can connect to it and it will show the company's login page. (if the username/password are put correctly, their customer can use the net.) I'm not the customer of the company and have my own access point in my house. But my computer always connect to the network of that company. I tried to remove the network but it keep coming back and connect to that access point instead of mine. What can I do to make my computer choose my access point first?

• SFTP "Could not connect to server error"

  I'm having problems connecting to my server via SFTP. I can SSH in to the system perfectly fine, but for some odd reason, i'm not able to SFTP (which I used to be able to). I have cleared ALL my iptables rules iptables -F still no access. I have removed the sub system (to allow FULL access) still no access. I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is. Thus is therefore making a solution impossible.

  I want to created vpn server on Windows Server 2012. First I installed Active Directory domain services, then Remote Access server role. Opened Gettng Started Wizard, entered configure just vpn. Then in Routing and Remote access selected Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access. There selected custom configuration, vpn. Then created user in active directory and allowed network access permission. After this I tried to connect to vpn from windows 8. I get the following error: Error 720: A connection t the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection. What should I do?

• PPTP VPN Server issue : server = centOS & client = windows 7

  I have a CentOS server configured as a PPTP VPN Server. The client is a Windows 7 with "Use default gateway on remote network" in advanced TCP/IPv4 properties enable. He can connect to CentOS without any problem and can access to: The Box of his ISP (http://192.168.1.254/) The CentOS server The website which is hosted by the server (through http://) But he canNOT access any other web service (google.com or 74.125.230.224) I am a beginner with web servers so I do not know what can cause this problem. Note 0 : The Windows 7 user must be able to access the whole internet through the CentOS PPTP proxy. • mod_rewrite and Apache questions

  We have an interesting situation in relation to some help desk software that we are trying to setup. This is a web based software application that allows customers and staff to log into it and access tickets and supply updates, etc. The challenge we are having deals with the two different domains that we use and the mod_rewrite rules to make it all work with our SSL certificate that is only bound to one of the domains. I will list the use case scenarios below and the challenges that we are having. If you access http://support.domain1.com/support then it redirects fine to https://support.domain2.com/support If you access http://support.domain2.com/support then it redirects fine to https://support.domain2.com/support If you access https://support.domain1.com/support then it throws an error of "server cannot be found" If you access https://support.domain1.com/support/ after having visited https://support.domain2.com/support then you are presented with a "this connection is untrusted" error about the certificate only being valid for the domain2 domain instead of the domain1 domain name I have tried just about every mod_rewrite rule that I can think of to help make this work and I have not been able to locate the correct combination. I was curious if anyone had some ideas on how to make the redirects work correctly. In the end, we are needing all customers and staff to land at https://support.domain2.com/support regardless of the previous URL combinations that they enter, like listed above. • Windows 7: Shared folder over wifi working for ONLY "Guests"

  Hi, I have a desktop and a laptop connected to same wifi router. Desktop is connected with wire and laptop with wifi. Both the system runs windows 7 and are on the same workgroup. I have shared some folders on desktop and can view the shared folder list on laptop under "network places". But when I try to open a folder, a prompt appears for username and password. When I enter BOTH username and password, It does not authenticate when I enter ONLY username, I get:- "Windows cannot access \WIn71\Setups you do not have permission to access ..." Now to get around this message I have to give access to "Guests" group on my desktop shared folder. Cant seem to figure out why It cant authenticate username with password. And giving access to "Guests" does not sounds safe!

• XP Filesharing works with IP's but not computer names.

  I recently ran into a problem where I was setting up a 5 person LAN. I enabled filesharing on the main computer and wanted to allow the other 4 computers to have access. 2 computers were able to access \expample without any issues. 1 computer would only connect if I uses the ip address \x.x.x.x\data. The third computer was able to access \example but required the user to login every time they tried to access the share. Why is there such inconsistency in these connections? All 5 computers are Windows XP Professional.

  I'm running Solr on Tomcat 8 on a Windows Server 2008 and I want to complete restrict all access to both except local. I've tried adding address attributes to <connector/> tags in the server.xml file and a couple of other things, but I noticed in each case the problem described was limiting access to a particular area, whereas I want a complete block. What is the correct (e.g. deepest/highest) place to set this access restriction within Tomcat?

• What is the equivalent of domain admin on Sharepoint 2010?

  I have to support Sharepoint on a daily basis but do not have the equivalent of domain access so I'm constantly having to ask the guy in charge of Sharepoint to add me to a new security group to complete my task. Rather than having to bug him all the time (he is only somewhat technical) it would be easier to simply have the equivalent of domain admin access for Sharepoint (I'm a sys admin and have domain admin access already but this doesn't seem to carry over to FOSS). What is the equivalent of domain admin access on Sharepoint 2010? Thanks in advance.

• Google Drive Update keeps throwing an error when I try to save a thumbnail

  The Base64 string checks out fine. I was able to export it to another website and download it again as my image. When I try to do an update using the Drive Javascript api, it just keeps returning this error: Invalidvaluefor:Notavalidbase64bytestring I also true making the string URL safe. • SQL - date variable isn't being parsed correctly?

  I am pulling a list of invoices filtered by a starting and ending date, and further filtered by type of invoice from a SQL table. When I specify a range of 2013-07-01 through 2013-09-30 I am receiving 2 invoices per company when I expect 3. When I use the built in select top 1000 query in SSMS and add my date filters, all the expected invoices appear. Still only get 2 invoices instead of the expected 3. I've also tried manually entering the dates instead of the @ variables, same result. I confirmed that InvoiceDate is defined as a datetime in the table. I've tried making all JOIN's a FULL JOIN to see if anything is hiding, but no change.   Under the Digital Agenda for Europe, the Commission has committed to maintaining the pace of a 20% yearly increase of the annual ICT R&D budget at least until 2013. The EU's flagship policy programme calls for doubling of annual public spending on ICT R&D by 2020 and to leverage an equivalent increase in private spending to achieve the goals of Europe's 2020 strategy for jobs and growth. Call 7 is one of the biggest calls ever launched for information and communications technology (ICT) research proposals under the EU's research framework programmes. It will result in project funding of € 780 million in 2011. This funding will advance research on the future internet, robotics, smart and embedded systems, photonics, ICT for energy efficiency, health and well-being in an ageing society, and more. The €780 million call for proposals is part of the biggest ever annual Work Programme under the EU's 7th Framework Programme for Research. Almost €1.2 billion has been budgeted for 2011. €220 million were made available already in July 2010 for public private partnerships focusing on ICT for smart cars, green buildings, sustainable factories and the future internet. Universities, research centres, SMEs, large companies and other organisations in Europe and beyond are eligible to apply for project funding under ICT Call 7. Proposals can be submitted until 18 January 2011, after which they will be evaluated by independent panels of experts for selection on the basis of their quality. • AngularJS in 60-ish Minutes – The eBook

  Back in April of 2013 I published a video titled AngularJS in 60-ish Minutes on YouTube that focused on learning the fundamentals of AngularJS such as data binding, controllers, modules, factories/services and more (watch it by clicking the link above or scroll to the bottom of this post). One of the people that watched the video was Ian Smith (his blog is at http://fastandfluid.blogspot.com). But, Ian did much more than just watch it. He took the time to transcribe the audio into text, added screenshots, and included the time that the topic appears in the original video. Here’s an example of one of the pages: The funny thing about this whole story is that I’m currently working on an AngularJS eBook concept that I plan to publish to Amazon.com that’ll be called AngularJS JumpStart and it’s also based on the video. It follows the same general format and I even paid a transcription company to generate a document for me a few months back. Ian and I have both developed training materials before and it turns out we were both thinking along the same lines which was funny to see when he first showed me what he created. I’m extremely appreciative of Ian for taking the time to transcribe the video (thank him if you use the document) and hope you find it useful!
