• No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

  Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help. I would like some help. my laptop has 8G (in Windows7), but Ubuntu only see 2.9G (I get this value from System Monitor under Resource tab my laptop can have 1600x900 resolution (it works in Windows7), but i can only set to 1280x800 in Ubunutu my wireless card does not work.   I am sending an email from a WPF application. When sending as a domain user on the network, the emails sends as expected.   suppose the machine is clean of all malware but not in any sense updated, patched, secured etc. Suppose I connect it to the internet from behind wireless router with the intent of using it only on a few trusted sites and only there. Or, for the sake of argument, maybe I wouldn't do any browsing at all, just let it sit there connected to the network. This is all happening in a residential situation with cable internet. In this situation can a remote attacker somehow detect the fact that the machine is connected to the internet and try connecting to do an exploit?

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with the ASP.NET 2.0 Login Control. I've setup a database with the aspI.net regsql tool. I've checked the application name. It is set to "/". The application can access the SQL Server. In fact, when I go to retrieve the password, it will even send me the password. Despite this, the login control continues to reject logins. • What causes Windows Boot to stall?

  For about 6 months now I have been having this weird problem where Windows 7 fails to fully boot correctly. What happens is this. Starting Windows shows up on the screen. Then 3 out of 4 times nothing else happens, no Windows Flag animation, just nothing occurs. After 3 or 4 restarts repeating steps 1-2 above, the Windows Flag animation finally shows up and everything works as expected. My question is what is causing this problem in steps 1 and 2? Because I have tried the following with no luck: Error checking and correcting of any disk errors Updating drivers Doing a clean install of Windows 7 My setup is as follows: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate 8 GB RAM 128 GB Crucial SSD (firmware 0005) Dell Latitude E6410 Intel Wireless and Graphics Other than what I have tried above I am totally out of ideas and looking for some new ones to try.

• How to identify cause of system lock on debian squeeze?

  I have a desktop system at work with debian squeeze installed. Every couple days or so, when I come in in the morning, the system appears to be asleep and won't wake up. I suspect it goes into power save mode and then doesn't receive the wake up signal when I click the mouse or touch the keyboard. Does anyone know where I should look in order to start tracking this down? Like log files, etc? I doubt it, but maybe the fact that I'm using a mac aluminum usb keyboard and a wireless usb mouse (that has an off switch) has something to do with it? Maybe, when I turn my mouse off at the end of the day, the system loses track of the device somehow? I dunno :P. Thanks in advance.

• Port forwarding on D-Link DIR-615 super-slow, useless

  Hello I have replaced my old router with DIR-615 from D-Link, and now the port forwarding is so slow it makes the router practically useless. Accessing the router itself (admin UI) is without issues, no delay whatsoever. But when I try to access a service on another computer in the network the requests take minutes and minutes. (E.g. I can see source of my GWT-app main page, but loading additional CSS and JS files takes years.) If anyone could recommend any further diagnostics I should do to figure out what is happening it would be great. Few notes: happens with more services (web-app on Tomcat, viewing directory index via Apache) it does not make a difference whether the service is hosted on wired or wireless PC accessing the service on a localhost works fine turning off firewall on the target PC does not make difference either (makes sense) when I replace this router with the old one (both 192.168.1.1) everything works fine I see nothing suspicious in the router's log I believe I have the latest firmware (4.11) DIR-615 sucks, it already died once completely Regards Jarda Z.

  I almost like Picasa, but there are two issues that irk me and I wondered if anyone knew of an application that does what Picasa does but without the following problems: Network drives. Picasa is hopeless with network drives. Ideally, I'd like photos to be stored remotely and thumbnail databases to be stored locally with a client-server set-up to update client databases. The main aim is to get updates propagated to clients efficently, reduce network bandwidth and have quick browsing on the client. It needs to be snappy when used over a wireless network. This is just a minor point but the folder view looks awful, especially when it uses those tiny thumbnails. (Also, what is it with folders being drawn vertically. Having spent years looking at folders orientated horizontally, turning them on their side looks so wrong.)

  Let me explain my situation. Currently, I am experimenting long-polling using NSURLConnection. I found this and I decided to try it. What I do is send a request to the server with a timeout interval of 300 secs. (or 5 mins.) Here is a code snippet: NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:urlString]; NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url cachePolicy:NSURLCacheStorageAllowedInMemoryOnly timeoutInterval:300]; NSData *data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&resp error:&err]; Now I want to test if the connection will "hold" the request if no data was thrown back from the server, so what I did was this: if (data != nil) [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(dataReceived:) withObject:data waitUntilDone:YES]; And the function dataReceived: looks like this: - (void)dataReceived:(NSData *)data { NSLog(@"DATA RECEIVED!"); NSString *string = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:[data bytes]]; NSLog(@"THE DATA: %@", string); } Server-side, I created a function that will return a data once it fits the arguments and returns none if nothing fits. Here is a snippet of the PHP function: function retrieveMessages($vardata) { if (!empty($vardata)) { $result = check_data($vardata) //check_data is the function which returns 1 if $vardata //fits the arguments, and 0 if it fails to fit if ($result == 1) { $jsonArray = array('Data' => $vardata); echo json_encode($jsonArray); } } } As you can see, the function will only return data if the $result is equal to 1. However, even if the function returns nothing, NSURLConnection will still perform the function dataReceived: meaning the NSURLConnection still receives data, albeit an empty one. So can anyone help me here? How will I perform long-polling using NSURLConnection? Basically, I want to maintain the connection as long as no data is returned. So how will I do it? NOTE: I am new to PHP, so if my code is wrong, please point it out so I can correct it.

• Insert data in an object to a database.

  I am facing the following design/implementation dilemma. I have a class Customer which is below with getters and setters. I would like to insert the value of the Customer into a "Customer" table of a database. But Customer has an address which is of type "Address". How do I go about inserting this field into the database?(I am using sqlite3). I thought of writing a separate table "Address(customerId,doorNo,city,state,country,pinCode)". But I am having second thoughts about generating the primary key(customerId) which should be same for both the "customer" and "Address" table. Sqlite3 faq states that I can do "Integer Primary Key" to use the field to generate an auto number. But if I do that in customer table, I would have to retrieve the same Id to be used in Address table. This kinda looks wrong to me :-?. There should be an elegant method to solve this. Any ideas would be much appreciated. • How to show disconnect network drives

  Windows 7 and Vista laptops in my company domain has network drives set up by Win2k8 Server GPO. Normally, when the laptops has ethernet cable plugged in before boot, the network drives connect and appear as expected at the end of startup sequence. However, when the laptop has ethernet cable unplugged, the network drives are not connected, which is fine, but the disconnected icons disappear as well. i.e. the drives are not set up. At the end of the startup sequence, upon reaching desktop, the wireless adapters will connect to the network and the laptop will be able to find the network drive. Hence I want the drives to be setup nonetheless, so that the next attempt to connect, say, via a desktop shortcut, will reestablish the network drive connection. How can this be done?

• How to interrupt a thread performing a blocking socket connect?

  I have some code that spawns a pthread that attempts to maintain a socket connection to a remote host. If the connection is ever lost, it attempts to reconnect using a blocking connect() call on its socket. Since the code runs in a separate thread, I don't really care about the fact that it uses the synchronous socket API. That is, until it comes time for my application to exit. I would like to perform some semblance of an orderly shutdown, so I use thread synchronization primitives to wake up the thread and signal for it to exit, then perform a pthread_join() on the thread to wait for it to complete. This works great, unless the thread is in the middle of a connect() call when I command the shutdown. In that case, I have to wait for the connect to time out, which could be a long time. This makes the application appear to take a long time to shut down. What I would like to do is to interrupt the call to connect() in some way. After the call returns, the thread will notice my exit signal and shut down cleanly. Since connect() is a system call, I thought that I might be able to intentionally interrupt it using a signal (thus making the call return EINTR), but I'm not sure if this is a robust method in a POSIX threads environment. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this, either using signals or via some other method? As a note, the connect() call is down in some library code that I cannot modify, so changing to a non-blocking socket is not an option.

• C socket programming: client send() but server select() doesn't see it

  Hey all, I have a server and a client running on two different machines where the client send()s but the server doesn't seem to receive the message. The server employs select() to monitor sockets for any incoming connections/messages. I can see that when the server accepts a new connection, it updates the fd_set array but always returns 0 despite the client send() messages. The connection is TCP and the machines are separated by like one router so dropping packets are highly unlikely.   I am planning to assemble a custom NAS machine using an Intel Atom processor. I need the NAS for the following purposes: It should be accessible from by Windows PC so that I can dump data on the NAS (installations, media etc) It should be accessible from my Macbook for the above use. I should be able to use it with the Mac time machine software for backup. The media should be available to my PS3 for streaming. I should be able to access it from my iphone. All the above features should be available over wireless. The time machine feature is very important. Is this even possible? Can someone provide resources on how I can assemble such a machine and setup the required software on it? Much appreciated.

  I am new in Visual C# and would want to know how to calculate the retrieved data from a database. Using the above GUI, when "Calculate" is click, the program will display the number of students in textBox1, and the average GPA of all students in textBox2. • JDBC call not executing

  I am working on one of the DAOs for a medium sized web application. Unfortunately, it contains very convoluted logic, and makes hundreds of JDBC stored proc calls in loops. This is out of my control. I am working on a method inside the DAO which makes a single JDBC call. The simplified version of what this method looks like is this: DriverManager.registerDriver(new com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver()); Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection((String)connectionDetails.get("DATABASE_URL") (String)connectionDetails.get("USERID"), (String)connectionDetails.get("PASSWORD")); String sqlToExecute = "{call " + STORED_PROC + "(?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?)}"; CallableStatement stmt = con.prepareCall(sqlToExecute); //Maybe I should try calling clearParameters here? stmt.setString(1,someData); //....Set of parameters.... if (!stmt.execute()) { //execute method never returns false } stmt.close(); Its pretty much a textbook JDBC call. All this stored proc does is insert a single row. Here is where things get crazy: This code works when you run it through a debugger line by line, but fails when you run it "full speed". Not only does it fail, but it doesn't throw any exception! The execute method always returns true. It just breezes right through the JDBC call without inserting a row to the database. If you go through the log files, copy the stored proc call and run it manually, it works (just like it does in debug mode). Whats strange is that the rest of the DAO, with all its hundreds of looped stored proc calls, works fine. My thinking is that Connection or CallableStatement is caching some value behind the scenes that is screwing things up. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? A JDBC call failing with no exceptions? I know it will be impossible to provide a complete solution to this without seeing the whole application, I am just looking for suggestions on possible issues to investigate.

• modprobe ndiswrapper - not found

  I'm trying to use ndiswrapper on a Slackware 12 (I think) box, but I'm running into a problem with modprobe. Everything I find online says that it should be working, but for some unknown reason it isn't. Here's what I've done so far: Installed ndiswrapper (latest tarball, make, make install) Ran ndiswrapper -i on the WinXP driver for my USB wireless card Ran ndiswrapper -l which tells me the driver is present and the device is present (lsusb also confirms the device is present) Ran ndiswrapper -m which put an alias for wlan0 in /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper.conf Ran depmod -a Ran modprobe ndiswrapper which tells me "FATAL: module ndiswrapper not found" Ran modprobe -l which shows no listing for ndiswrapper I even tossed in a reboot or two while trying various combinations of the above, still nothing. So naturally ifconfig wlan0 up isn't working because the device isn't being created, presumably because the module isn't loading the driver. Does anybody have any suggestions? Everything points to the notion that this should work fine, but modprobe just isn't able to find what it needs. Have I missed an important step?

  After we have got our great place to talk about professional matters and sozialize online - on SO, I believe the next logical step would be to found our own country! I invite you all to participate and bring together your available resources. We will buy an island, better even a group of islands so that we could establish states like .NET territories, Java land, Linux republic etc. We will build a society of programmers (girls - we need you too). To the organizational side, we're going to need some sort of a Constitution or a law book. I suggest we write it together. I make it a wiki as it should be a cooperative effort. I'll open the work. Section 1. Programmers' rights. Every citizen has a right to an Internet connection 24/7. Every citizen can freely choose the field of interest Section 2. Programmers' obligations. Every citizen must embrace the changing nature of the profession and constanly educate himself Section 3. Law enforcement. Code duplication when can be avoided is punished by limiting the bandwith speed to 64Kbit for a period of one week. Using ugly hacks instead of refactoring code is punished by cutting the Internet connection for a period of one month. Usage of technologies older than 5/10 years is punished by restricting the web access to the sites last updated 5/10 years ago for a period of one month. Please feel free to modify and extend the list. We'll need to have it ready before we proceed formally with the country foundation. A purchase fund will be established shortly. Everyone is invited to participate.

• Logitech Mouse stopped working after changing batteries!

  I just changed batteries for my optical wireless Logitech mouse, but it stopped working; When I put it on, it waits a second and then keeps the green light for few seconds. After that it just stops responding and doesn't show the light even if I'm moving it. Does this have something to do with batteries? I took new, so they're not empty. And I think it cannot be on batteries, because it keeps the light first, but then just stops responding. Please help, I would be very very thankfull. This makes me mad to use this mousepad :D EDIT: Wow, what an fast answer!! Thank you, but you wanted to know this mouse? I think it's Logitech M205, watched from Logitech site, because have not the original package anymore :S I couldn't find any buttons in receiver, but mouse has button called "reset". Is that the right one?
