• Directory access control with Apache: do I need to use a specific .htaccess?

  I have an Apache webserver, and in the Apache configuration, I have Alias /backups "/backups" <Directory "/backups"> AllowOverride None Options Indexes Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> I can access files via http://127.0.0.1/backups. The problem is everyone can access that. I have a web interface, e.g. http://localhost/adminm that is protected with htaccess and password. Now I don't want separate .htaccess and .htpasswd for /backups, and I don't want a second password prompt when a user clicks on /backups in the web interface. Is there any way to use same .htaccess and .htpasswd for the backups directory?

• URL parameter names being changed by user agents

  In reviewing one of our site's web logs I'm seeing instances where we are returning a 404 to requests because we're expecting an id parameter to be sent, but instead we're seeing a di parameter. The resource in question is an image but which image file actually gets served is dependent on the id parameter. The expected url is something like http://images.mysite.com/photo.gif?id=123&width=200&height=300 What I'm seeing in the logs is requests for http://images.mysite.com/photo.gif?di=123&width=200&height=300 The only case where we are seeing this on the id parameter. It seems unlikely that this is due to a server side or JavaScript bug since it seems to be only effecting a small percentage of our traffic. We are seeing this across a wide variety of user agents (both mobile and desktop) and IPs. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a browser plugin or other software you're aware of that could be causing this, and if so is there a good way to work around the issue?

• Stop Google Analytics from appending hostname?

  I've come across an Analytics profile that is appending the rest of a URL to the end of a page's path. For example when looking at the page that exists at http://example.com/page I would expect to see /page but instead it shows me /page/http://example.com/. The profile has no filters applied to it, and until July was reporting as expected (/page), in July the site in question switched hosts (and absolutely nothing else, so I'm not sure that's the problem). The analytics code on the site is the standard Google Async code with a domain set. All other profiles for the site show /page as expected. Any ideas as to how I can get the profile to function as expected?

• Best strategy to discover a web service in a local network?

  I am currently doing some research for a project. The setup is simple, I have a computer running a service in my home network and any device connected to that same network should be able to discover the service automatically and use it. I have no specific technology requirement whether it is on the server or client side. The client knows about the service definition. Other than that I have no idea what strategy to use, what technology to look at or whether I should go for a SOAP or a HTTP based service. I think going HTTP with REST API is the best for targeting all devices but I am opened to any suggestions. Thanks.

• Pidgin not present in 12.10 repositories, how do i get one?

When I go to the Software Center and try to install the client I get an error saying:- Not found There isn’t a software package called “pidgin” in your current software sources. Any ideas which repositories i need to import to get this done.   I do really hate repeater. I was more a GridView lover but after 3.5 be born, I prefer ListView.  The first problem with Repeater is paging. You will need to write code to handle paging. Second common problem is empty data template. Although the ListView has a template.   If you combine ListView with a DataPager, you will be in heaven as it is sorting the paging for you without writing code. • Cannot install "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" (SystemError)

  I have just installed a fresh copy of 12.04.1 64bit. I formatted my PC completely and enabled updates during the installation. After the installation was complete, I went on updating my software. However, when I wanted to install the additional drivers using the Additional Drivers tool (namely "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver"), it gave me this error: SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. The same error shows up if I try installing the post-release updates driver. Installing the drivers from the terminal results in this output: XXXXXX:~$ sudo apt-get install fglrx [sudo] password for XXXXX: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: fglrx : Depends: lib32gcc1 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libc6-i386 but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages." • Is there a way I can sort traffic by page-type based upon URL structure in Google-Analytics or Google Webmaster Tools??

  I have a local business directory site. I'm trying to segment my incoming traffic by page-type such that i can find out what percentage of traffic is going to zip code pages exclusively and what percentage is going to city/state level pages. I basically want to filter by URL structure to find out what percentage of total traffic zip code pages account for. The reason for doing this is to find out if Does Google Tag Manager help with this? In the same folder I leave a copy of the license. The listing of the folder looks like this: * codeName.js * LICENSE In the file LICENSE is the full text of the license my code uses. What I cannot find anywhere that says is this is enough to say my code is licensed (the case of open-source). Is something more required?

• Writing a basic shader for large input files

  I started writing a shader for my iOS app and instead of starting from scratch i used this tutorial here: http://www.raywenderlich.com/3664/opengl-es-2-0-for-iphone-tutorial I wrote an import function, first to import wavefront .obj models. My problem is that with I can't handle larger inputs (with a simple cube it was working). I realized that the indices array is an array of GLubyte values, which is unsigned char, so as a result i cant have more than 256 indexes. I modified it to GLuint, but then only get a blank screen.   I have used http://www.longtailvideo.com/bits-on-the-run,http://www.influxis.com/, wistia for video hosting. Wistia didn't allow the finer control that we wanted to have. Influxis doesn't have the features that Bits on the Run has but platform usage for BOTR gets expensive. I was thinking of moving the videos to Amazon CDN. What are your thoughts and experiences with video hosting and are there any recommendations? Videos will be privately streamed to 100's of doctors offices.

• BleachBit: How to Completely Clear URL History in Firefox?

  14.04 / Firefox 29.0 I've been using Bleachbit to clear usage/file history, and for the most part it works great. However, it doesn't seem to clear the website hostnames out of the URL, at all. These addresses are not bookmarked. Also, the total URL isn't preserved, just the hostname. Visit site http://www.bluesnews.com/some_random_URL_string Exit Firefox Run Bleachbit, with ALL Firefox options selected Restart Firefox Check history: completely empty, other than bookmarked sites. www.bluesnews is NOT bookmarked Type "blue" which is Firefox automatically completes as "http://www.bluesnews.com/" Alternate Step #3: Use Firefox's built-in "Clear History" and select ALL entries with a time frame of "Everything". Same result as above. My inquiry in BB forums hasn't been responded to. I found Dan's proposed solution, however changing autocomplete in about:config only turns off the function, it doesn't actually stop storing URLs.

  Hi! I want to use my old (1GHz) PC as webcam video stream server (like you can see those road cameras). I thought of using VLC and already tried using http output but it was not really good. Too cpu hungry, too big stream (kBps), not stable... I been reading VLC how-to's but thre is still a question. Which output should I use? Http, RTSP, UDP? I want to make for more than one computer at the same time (multicast). Which codec should be good? PC is not so fast so it shouldn't be too cpu hungry codec. Mpeg2, mpeg4, xvid? how much video buffer should I use (vb=?)? What about setting IP and ports? So I need some help with ideas, but if someone can make a VLC command line it's even better :) Oh, computer has direct internet connection and own IP.

• How to pass information across domains to ask for newsletter only once?

  Lets assume following scenario, I have two sites: example1.com example2.com When user visits 1 there is a prompt "please signup to a newsletter". Same thing happens when user visits 2. However when navigating from 1 to 2 I don't want signup form to be shown. • ASA 5540 v8.4(3) vpn to ASA 5505 v8.2(5), tunnel up but I cant ping from 5505 to IP on other side

  I am having problems pinging from a 5505(remote) to IP 10.160.70.10 in the network behind the 5540(HQ side). 5505 inside IP: 10.56.0.1 Out: 71.43.109.226 5540 Inside: 10.1.0.8 out: 64.129.214.27 I Can ping from 5540 to 5505 inside 10.56.0.1. I also ran ASDM packet tracer in both directions, it is ok from 5540 to 5505, but drops the packet from 5505 to 5540. It gets through the ACL and dies at the NAT. Here is the 5505 config, I am sure it is something simple I am missing.
