  • Why does apt-get install Skype easily while aptitude complains about MAJOR dependency errors?

    I was trying to install Skype on Ubuntu 13.04, from the Canonical repositories. With apt-get it worked easily, while aptitude had a huge problem with dependencies and proposed a complicated solution. Why is this so? Why doesn't aptitude offer whatever apt-get does as a potential solution? Here is the output of both: apt-get install skype: Reading package lists... Building dependency tree...   • CakeDC Users Plugin - I Can't Send Emails

    I apologise for the rambling nature of this question, please bear with me and I'll provide all the extra info needed for you to stop me going mad from failing at something that looks inherently very straightforward... I've just installed CakePHP 2.2, and the first thing I've done is add the cakeDC Users plugin. It's all working, apart from sending an email verification when a user registers. I've tried so many combinations of different things in email.php, that I have now utterly got my knickers in a twist. Whatever I do, when the verification email should be sent, all I get is: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.     I have quite a few of these in Apache logs piling up every day: [Mon Jun 09 20:42:58 2014] [error] [client 180.153.214.181] File does not exist: /home/user/public_html/ajax.googleapis.com, referer: http://www.mysite.com//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js I have over 200k visitors per day but a few of them like a dozen or so are generating the above error. I can't figure out what may be causing it. Checked the html code and it's all good so I ran out of ideas.

    I am using the PHP Facebook SDK to leverage the Facebook registration/login plugin. Unfortunately, even when I access this page from a brand-new browser (Firefox, just installed, which means no cookies or sessions exist) and I am still redirected. Note the PHP code below[2]. Also, the SITE_HOST is a constant for the www. address. I think the actual condition that is being met is response.status being equal to "unknown". This status check implies an unsuccessful response from Facebook, right? Without this getLoginStatus check in the code, it will actually load the the registration page, and a Facebook registration form: Note how it says: "You have registered", which I did a month ago (assuming this qualification is met by allowing the Facebook App permissions, which was done when I initially installed the Facebook SDK). So why would the redirect code work for me (seemingly), then still redirect me when I am using a browser NOT signed in to Facebook? Also, the jQuery function at the bottom of the script loads all.js.     I am working on a Javascript app (CloudGraph) that uses HTML5 canvas and JQuery. I'm using ExplorerCanvas to support canvas in IE. I recently came across an interesting problem. What I was trying to do is restore the user's settings when the page is loaded. I read some information from a cookie that I set the last time the user accessed the application. One of these settings is the size of the canvas. I decided that the best place to do this would be when the document is ready using JQuery $(document).ready(). This worked fine in browsers that natively support the canvas element. But in IE it kept getting errors the first time I would hit the page. It seemed that the excanvas element wasn't initialized yet because I was getting null reference and unknown properties errors. If I refreshed the page the errors went away but the resized canvas wasn't drawing on the entire area of the canvas. It was like the clipping rectangle was still set to the default canvas size. I found that the canvas element when using excanvas has a div child element which is where the actual drawing takes place. When I changed the width and height of the canvas element in document.ready it didn't change the width and height of the child div. Initially my solution was to also change the div element when changing the canvas element and that worked. But then I realized that having to refresh the page every time I started the app in IE really sucked. That wouldn't be acceptable for users. Since it seemed like the canvas wasn't getting initialized before I was trying to use it I decided to try to initialize my app at a different time. I figured the next best place was in the onload event. Sure enough, moving my initialization to onload fixed all of the problems. So, it looks like the canvas shouldn't be manipulated until the onload event when using ExplorerCanvas. There might be ways to do it when the document is ready. I found some posts on initializing excanvas manually, but for me waiting until onload worked just fine.

Sadly all I could find is tag auto-closing (in TextFX and XMLtools), where a tag closure is added when the user types the '' (like in <div>). Any suggestions?

    My goal is to create a way for an admin to create two models in the Refinery admin: Campaigns and Videos I would like to have it setup so that a Campaign has many Videos and that each Video belongs to a Campaign. Both Videos and Campaigns will have a title, description, and a preview image. I'm not certain of the best way to go about this. Is it possible to setup two plugins and form a relationship between the two? Or, should I create one plugin with both models.
