• FreeText Query is slow - includes TOP and Order By

  The Product table has 700K records in it. The query: SELECT TOP 1 ID, Name FROM Product WHERE contains(Name, '"White Dress"') ORDER BY DateMadeNew desc takes about 1 minute to run. There is an non-clustered index on DateMadeNew and FreeText index on Name. If I remove TOP 1 or Order By - it takes less then 1 second to run.   Hi all, This is my first post, and first please forgive me for my poor english. I have a problem I really can't fix: I have a <table> of questions, the first question is visible (class:visible), the others are hidden (class:hidden) $(document).ready(function(){ $('.hidden').hide(); When people click on the first question, I want the second question to appear (and the first question to turn to grey, using a 'done' class). $('.visible:not(.done)').click(function(){ $(this).addClass('done'); $('.hidden:first').toggle(500).removeClass('hidden').addClass('visible'); }) The first question is now done (class:done) and the 2nd question should be the only one to react to a click(), and so on... But it doesn't work: the other <tr> appear only when I click on the 1st <tr>. Can someone give me a hand on this problem ? Thank you.

  I am using boost::thread to process messages in a queue. When a first message comes I start a message processing thread. When a second message comes I check if the message processing thread is done. if it is done I start a new one if it is not done I don nothing. How do I know if the thread is done ? I tried with joinable() but it is not working, as when the thread is done, it is still joinable. I also tried to interrupt the process at once, and add an interruption point at the end of my thread, but it did not work. Thanks

I need to know the number of users created for a given date range. Let's say I ask give me user report between 1-nov-2010 and 30-nov-2010 . I need something like this 1-nov-2010: 2 2-nov-2010: 5 The problem I am running into is that created_at data has value upto second. How do I check if a created_at date falls within a given date. • Adding more OR searches with CONTAINS Brings Query to Crawl

  I have a simple query that relies on two full-text indexed tables, but it runs extremely slow when I have the CONTAINS combined with any additional OR search. As seen in the execution plan, the two full text searches crush the performance. If I query with just 1 of the CONTAINS, or neither, the query is sub-second, but the moment you add OR into the mix the query becomes ill-fated. The two tables are nothing special, they're not overly wide (42 cols in one, 21 in the other; maybe 10 cols are FT indexed in each) or even contain very many records (36k recs in the biggest of the two). I was able to solve the performance by splitting the two CONTAINS searches into their own SELECT queries and then UNION the three together. Is this UNION workaround my only hope? Thanks.   Hi, I'm using an SSL certificate from geotrust. I just ordered and installed it this weekend. However when I try to access my website using https, firefox (and the other browsers as well) the browser warns that the certificate expired a few days ago. I guess there could be two reasons: I made a mistake during the installation of the certificate Geotrust did not sign the certificate properly. First I want to rule out the second reason considering my browser tells me the certificate expired a few days ago. This does not make sense at all. Is there a way to extract the expiration date from the certificate? Thanks!

• Filemaker XSL 20sec Query Latency

  I have an ASP frontend that loads data from a Filemaker database using XSL to perform simple queries. The problem is that the first page load takes 20 seconds +/- 200ms, then the next few page refreshes within a minute of the first request take <200ms, then the cycle starts over again. Each page load makes only 2 XSL queries, and they execute fast after the first page load, so what is causing the delay on the first page load? I have caching turned up with a 100% hit rate, and number of connections at 100. I've tried with XSL database sessions on and off, and session time anywhere from 1 to 60 minutes without any changes. The XSL loads from ASP use a GET request and add a Basic Authorization header to authenticate each time. During fast page requests, the fmserver.exe and fmswpc.exe processes don't even flinch, but during a 20 second holdup I see fmserver jump to 30% CPU and a 3mb I/O read a few seconds into the request, and occasionally fmswpc jump to 60% CPU.

• Wicket and a rich ajax website: easiest way to do it?

  I want to use Wicket to build an application, but I have some designers that would like to write/maintain the javascript, and they basically expect 1 JS-segment per page, and a global JS-file. I think the most natural way to add javascript in wicket is to add it per component (not per page), which would create problems for those designers (fractioned javascript, and having to write it in java-files). Is there a better way to solve this? (of course, I expect things to work after a partial refresh.) And a second (related) thing they'd like (and I'd like actually) is the possibility to request information in JSON-format through a static link , is this possible in Wicket?

  Hi, let's say you have an game server which creating text log files of gamers actions, and from time to time you need to lookup something in those logs files (like investigating an scam or loosing an item). Just for example you have 100 files and each file have size between 20MB and 50MB - How you would search them quickly? What I have already tried to do is create several threads and each invidual thread will map his own file to memory (let say memory should not be problem if it not exceed 500MB of ram) perform search here, result was something around 1 second per file : File:a26.log - read in: 0.891, lines: 625282, matches: 78848 Is there better way how to do that ? - because it seems to me kinda slow. thanks. (java was used for this case)

  I'd like to do some stuffs before main function. I have multiple source files. In each file, there is some work that needs to be done before main. It was no problem in C++, but problematic with C. In C++, this can be done by two ways: Exploiting a constructor of a global class/struct. Calling a function to a global variable For example, static const int __register_dummy_ = __AddRegisterMetaInfo(...); However, in C, either ways is impossible. Obviously, there is no constructor. So, the first option is inherently impossible. I thought that the second option would be possible, but not compiled in C (I tested only with Visual C++. It gives C2099.). C only allows a constant to a non-automatic variable. Is there any way to call some functions before main?

Basically, the code that I have right now is similar to: http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_ajax_database.asp I was wondering how should I modify those codes (both html, javascript and php) to create two drop down lists. The first drop list would be used for choosing the Lastname (eg. Swanson) and the second drop list would be used for choosing the Hometown (eg. Quahog). Then the user would click "Submit" button and the query would return the matching results (eg. all the Swansons living in Quahog). I'd be very thankful for all the ideas!

• Response.Redirect causes System.Threading.ThreadAbortException

  When I use Response.Redirect(...) to redirect my form to a new page I get the error: A first chance exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll An exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll but was not handled in user code My understanding of this is that the error is being caused by the webserver aborting the remainder of the page the response.redirect was called on. I know I can add a second parameter to Response.Redirect that is called endResponse. If I set endResponse to True I still get the error but if I set it to False then I do not. I am pretty sure though that that means the webserver is running the rest of the page I redirected away from. Which would seem to be inefficient to say the least. Is there a better way to do this? Something other than Response.Redirect or is there a way to force the old page to stop loading where I will not get a ThreadAbortException?

• How do I get characters common to two vectors in C++?

  I am trying to compare two vector objects, and return a single vector containing all the chars which appear in both vectors. How would I go about this without writing some horribly complex manual method which compares every char in the first vector to every char in the second vector and using an if to add it to a third vector (which would be returned) if they match. Maybe my lack of real experience with vectors is making me imagine this will be harder than it really is, but I suspect there is some simplier way which I have been unable to find through searching.

  I want to create a real time-series array. Currently, I am using the statistics gem to pull out values for each 'day': define_statistic :sent_count, :count => :all, :group => 'DATE(date_sent)', :filter_on => {:email_id => 'email_id > = ?'}, :order => 'DATE(date_sent) ASC' What this does is create an array where there are values for a date, for example [["12-20-2010",1], ["12-24-2010",3]] But I need it to fill in the null values, so it looks more like: [["12-20-2010",1], ["12-21-2010",0], ["12-22-2010",0], ["12-23-2010",0], ["12-24-2010",3]] Notice how the second example has "0" values for the days that were missing from the first array.

• getting the value of a filter at an arbitrary time

  Context: I'm trying to improve the values returned by the iPhone CLLocationManager, although this is a more generally applicable problem. The key is that CLLocationManger returns data on current velocity as and when it feels like it, rather than at a fixed sample rate. I'd like to use a feedback equation to improve accuracy v=(k*v)+(1-k)*currentVelocity where currentVelocity is the speed returned by didUpdateToLocation:fromLocation: and v is the output velocity (and also used for the feedback element). Because of the "as and when" nature of didUpdateToLocation:fromLocation: I could calculate the time interval since it was last called, and do something like for (i=0;i<timeintervalsincelastcalled;i++) v=(k*v)+(1-k)*currentVelocity which would work, but is wasteful of cycles. Especially as I probably want timeintervalsincelastcalled to be measured as 10ths of a second. Is there a way to solve this without the loop ? i.e. rework (integrate?) the formula so I put an interval into the equation and get the same answer as I would have by iteration ?

• jQuery focus on content of input / textarea - not working properly in IE8

  I want the input fields on my site to select all the text when the user first clicks on them, but in IE8 the text is selected for a split second then reverts back to normal. Works fine in FF. • Stored proc executes >30 secs when called from website, but <1 sec when called from ssms

  I have a stored procedure that is called by a website to display data. Today the web page has started timing out so I got profiler going and saw the query that was taking too long. I then ran the same query in management studio, under the same user login, and it takes less than a second to return. Is there anything obvious that could be causing this? I can't think of a reason why when ASP calls the stored proc it takes 30 secs but when I call it it's fine. Thanks
