  Referencing this code: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2840714/f-static-member-type-constraints/2842037#2842037 Why is, for example, [1L..100000L] |> List.map (fun n -> factorize gL n) significantly slower than [1L..100000L] |> List.map (fun n -> factorize (G_of 1L) n) By looking at Reflector, I can see that the compiler is treating each of these in very different ways, but there is too much going on for me to decipher the essential difference. Naively I assumed the former would perform better than the later because gL is precomputed whereas G_of 1L has to be computed 100,000 times (at least it appears that way).

• java: how to get a string representation of a compressed byte array ?

  I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into a compressed file 'data.zip' server send a string representation of data.zip to the repository repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool The problem arise at step 3 when I try to get a string representation of my compressed file. Here is a sample class, using the zip*stream and that emulate the repository showcasing my problem. The created zip file is working, but after its 'serialization' it's get corrupted. • Showing Dynamic Content within a Facebook Page

  Hi all, I need to have some content displayed in a Facebook Page (I believe these are also referred to as Business Pages?). However, some of these content will be dynamic. What I mean by that is, some of the content will be taken from an existing web application. I've looked into using Static FBML (which allows us to have tabs in the profile page with FBML in it). These no longer allow iframes. Does work in this instance (as I've not been able to get it to work either). Are there any other tags which can be used for this purpose? In short, is there a way to obtain data from an external source and display those content within a Facebook Page (Tab)? Thank you very much in advance for any light that you can shed on this issue. • How come you cannot catch Code Contract exceptions?

  System.Diagnostics.Contracts.ContractException is not accessiable in my test project. Note this code is purely myself messing around with my shiney new copy of Visual Studio, but I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. I'm using the professional edition of VS, therefore I do not have static checking. In order to still use code contracts (which I like) I figured the only way my method can work is to catch the exception that is thrown at runtime, but I'm not finding this possible.   I am using DocumentBuilder (of openXML api), to those who doesn't know the documentBuilder I'll give a short explanation: it has a function 'BuildDocument' which gets list of sources (each source contains wmldocument), and string of fileName to save to. public static void BuildDocument(List<Source> sources, string fileName) the purpose of this function is to build one word docx which contains all the sources. it merges some docs to one. at the end of its functionality it saves the doc using: File.WriteAllBytes(...) but when I run my project on the server I keep getting the error: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." few times it works ok. and in the visualStudio it also works without errors. what can be the problem?

• Manually inserting varbinary data into SQL Server

  Hi, We have a SQL Server table for user settings. Originally the settings were domain objects which had been serialized as XML into the table but we recently begun serializing them as binary. However, as part of our deployment process we statically pre-populate the table with predefined settings for our users. Originally, this was as simple as copying the XML from a customized database and pasting it into an INSERT statement that was ran after the database was built. However, since we've moved to storing the settings as binary data we can't get this to work. How can we extract binary data from a varbinary column in SQL Server and paste it into a static INSERT script? We only want to use SQL for this, we don't want to use any utilities.   Hi is there a standard place for accessing empty array constants in the JDK 1.5. When I want to do a conversion from a String Collection (e.g. ArrayList)to a String Array I find myself using my own which is defined in my own Constants class: public static final String[] EMPTY_STRING_ARRAY = new String[0]; And then in my client code something like: String[] retVal = myStringList.toArray(Constants.EMPTY_STRING_ARRAY); return retVal; I was wondering if this is the "idiomatic" of doing it or if I'm missing something I get the impression from the brief search I did that this kind of thing is prevalent in many people's code.   Hey folks I've deployed an ASP.NET MVC app on IIS7 and Windows Server 2008. I've read posts on here, and around the web, but can't get the darn client-side caching to work. I'm trying to cache everything in the /Content folder. So far I've select that folder in IIS manager, and set the appropriate HTTP Response Headers (under Common Headers). I've also checked the web.config file in the /Content folder and the values there are being set. All resources in /Content come back with this (from FireBug): Cache-Control no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate Pragma no-cache Content-Type image/png Expires -1 Last-Modified Sun, 11 Oct 2009 19:01:40 GMT Accept-Ranges bytes Etag "f318d643a54aca1:0" Server Microsoft-IIS/7.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Date Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:40:01 GMT Content-Length 620 Note the Cache-Control and Expires values for this static image being requested. • Why will IIS 6 not serve my custom 404 page when I set the URL in 'Custom Errors'?

  I've got an ASP.NET MVC site & I've got an Errors controller with a NotFound action which works great for 404 errors that pass though .NET, but for stuff that doesn't (like static files) I've set the Custom Errors value for 404 to URL with a value of /Errors/NotFound. But when I do this & hit a non-existant page the site just gives me this: The system cannot find the path specified. Is this because it's a dynamic url, can IIS not redirect 404 requests to dynamic urls or have I screwed up the config somewhere?

• Best approach for building a multiplattform graphical interface for a command-line application

  Hi, I developed a command line application, whose binary runs in Linux, Windows and Mac OSX. It reads some text input files, but I realize that some special users can not handle this. I would then like to build some kind of graphical interface, where the user only finds buttons and scroll bars for selecting the input parameters, a big "run" button, and then it reads the output of the program and makes some figures. I also need that everything gets finally packed in a single file, which uses only static libraries, so the user just needs to copy the file to his/her machine and run it. I would like to know what is the best open source and multi-platform approach to do this. 10 years ago I played a bit with something similar on DEC machines, so I guess that nowadays the situation has probably improved a bit. P.S. • Converting raw bytes into audio sound

  In my application I inherit a javastreamingaudio class from the freeTTS package then bypass the write method which sends an array of bytes to the SourceDataLine for audio processing. Instead of writing to the data line, I write this and subsequent byte arrays into a buffer which I then bring into my class and try to process into sound. My application processes sound as arrays of floats so I convert to float and try to process but always get static sound back. I am sure this is the way to go but am missing something along the way. I know that sound is processed as frames and each frame is a group of bytes so in my application I have to process the bytes into frames somehow. Am I looking at this the right way?   Hi, I have a layout with an ImageView defined like: <ImageView android:layout_width="45dip" android:layout_height="45dip" android:scaleType="fitXY" /> now I just want to set the imageview to be a static color, like red or green. I'm trying: ColorDrawable cd = new ColorDrawable("FF0000"); cd.setAlpha(255); ImageView iv = ...; iv.setImageDrawable(cd); the imageview is just empty though, no color. The 45dip space is being used up though. What do I need to do to get the color to be rendered? Thanks

• Adding a dynamic-height UITableView into a scrolling view?

  Hello all – I'm getting into iPhone development and have hit my first confusing UI point. Here's the situation: My app is tab-based, and the view that I'm confused about has a static featured content image at the top, then a dynamic list below into which X headlines are loaded. My goal is to have the height of the headline table grow as elements are added to it, and then to have the whole view scroll (both featured image on top and headline list below). So, I guess my question comes in two parts: 1) First, how do you set up a dynamic-height table view that will grow as cells are added to it. So far I've only been able to have my tables handle their own scrolling. 2) Then, what is the root NIB view that the featured image and the table should live in to enabled scrolling? I've dropped oversized content into a UIScrollView now, although did seem to have any success with having it automatically scroll. Thanks in advance for any help on this subject!

  I'm starting learning Lisp with Java background. In SICP's exercise there is many tasks where students should create abstract functions with many parameters, like (define (filtered-accumulate combiner null-value term a next b filter)...) in exercise 3.11. In Java (language with safe, static typing discipline) - method with more than 4 arguments usually smells, but in Lisp/Scheme it doesnt, does it? I'm wandering how many arguments do you use in you functions? If you use it in production, do you make such many layers?

• Implementing full text search on iPhone?

  I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to implement a full-text search on some static data on the iPhone. Basically I have an app that contains the offline version of a web site, about 50MB of text, and I'd like for users to be able to search for terms. I figure that I should somehow build an table of ("word", reference_to_file_containing_word) or something, put that into either Core Data or just sqlite, index the "word" column, then have the search facility search the table for search terms and take the intersection of the sets of results for the terms or something. That wouldn't allow people to search for phrases but it would be pretty easy and probably not too slow. I'd like to just use existing SDK features for this. Should I use Core Data or sqlite? Does anyone have any other ideas on how this could be done?

• How do I setup a Master Page with ASP.net?

  Hi there, I'm normally a ColdFusion developer, but I'm having to work on a new site using some ASP.net hosting only, so forgive me if my questions seem very trivial. For numerous reasons, the website will be relatively static in the sense that it will mainly be using includes etc...that's about as complex as it will get with this. Now, I heard about the ability to set a master in ASP.net. Would anyone please be able to explain to me in a step process on how to do this? I have of course been searching for some time now on this topic but most results yield little help or no help at all since the search terms are slightly ambiguous. It would be nice to have this functionality for the long run. Any help or advice would be great. Many thanks. Michael.
