• Custom changeable handler when a Service finishes downloading a file

  I have a Service that downloads a file from the internet. What I want is for the response (an InputStream in this case) to be handled by a custom handler that can be switched (like a strategy pattern) but I can't figure out how to do this. So basically the User of the API would be able to plug in different handlers for the response, some would parse XML, others might save files etc. I realise I could pass through the activity context and execute the method from this (given some interface) but I don't want to do this obviously, in case the Activity is closed in the meantime while the file is still downloaded. How might I do this?

• Any reason why I shouldn't use couchdb for message passing or realtime activity streams?

  While using ampq or xmpp (rabbitmq or ejabbered that could have couchdb as backends) seems like a good fit to deliver real time updates about friend state in a social gaming platform where updates are small but frequent, I can't help but think why wouldn't couchdb be a good platform to deliver such updates? The main advantage I could think of is its ability to filter updates based on friends and availability of changes api, which makes developing such an application and managing it (including replication) quite easy compared to ampq or xmpp where you have to think about how to manage the pubsub nodes and who is subscribed to them at any point in time. However, I can't help but think this is too good to be true, I can't find information on what couchdb's shortcomings are. Somehow, it feels like using MySQL for message passing which is why I am hesitant to using it. Anyone have any experience in using couchdb for such applications? would you recommend another platform to use?

  Yesterday I was thinking about whether it would be possible to use the convenience of C++1x lambda functions to write callbacks for Windows API functions. For example, what if I wanted to use a lambda as an EnumChildProc with EnumChildWindows? I think it is because the access token expires. how can I change this code to incorporate the extended access token to log in the user to my site? offline access token is deprecated, so I need to use the extended access token.

• How do I detect a click event on a google maps PolyLine overlay?

  It seems to me that I should be able to do the following to detect a click event on a line on a google map: var line = new GPolyline( ... ); map.addOverlay(line); GEvent.addListener(line, "click", function(latlng){ alert("clicked"); }); The api reference says this is available in version 2.88, which was released in 2007(!?), so I'm assuming that's what I'm using, but I don't know how to confirm that. I also tried setting the {clickable:true} option explicitly (it's supposed to be the default.) I've tested in FireFox 3 and Opera 9.6 so doubt it's browser specific. I'm also using jQuery on the page. I have plenty of code detecting clicks on markers that works fine, clicking on lines would be really nice, can anyone enlighten me?

• Get a list of events owned by a facebook page

  Does anyone know how I can get a list of events owned (created) by a Facebook page? I seem to be able to use the "graph api" to generate a list of the events an entity is attending. I also looked at FQL, but it seems to require that the 'where' clause is an indexable field (and, naturally, the id is the only indexable field). For bonus points, we'd be able to do this without any authentication. (Though I'm resigned to the fact that I'm likely going to need at least a permanent access_token.) If anyone know how to do this I'd be eternally grateful.

• OpenId with Desktop Application ?

  We're using an API from a provider; in their next version, they would provide an OpenId server but mostly the users are using their desktop application. An other website we're building would be opened from this application and we supposedly would connect with openid to access the resources stored in this provider. Still I don't understand how this would work if user is already authenticated with the desktop, will they have to authenticate an other time ? What happens if they close their browser and reopen it, will they have to to do it again ?

  Dear experts, I would like to implement a API of Javascript that sort of resemble a light switch. For instance, there are two buttons on the actual HTML page act as the UI. Both of the buttons have event handlers that invokes a different function. Each function have codes that act like a state, for instance. button1.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //code effects 2 ) } button2.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //Code effects 2 ) } I the code works fine on the surface but the 2 state functions overlap. the effects is going to take place for the rest of the way until the next reload of the document. Basically what I want to achieve is that when 1 button is clicked, it will switch "OFF" the state of function invoked by the other button and vice versa. Thus, the effects achieved are unique are not overlapped. Is there anyway to achieve this or could any experts point me to the right direction. Thanks in advance.

• Best Ruby ORM for Wrapping around Legacy MSSQL Database?

  Hi. I found this answer and it sounds like almost exactly what I'm doing. I have heard mixed answers about whether or not datamapper can support mssql through dataobjects. Basically, we have an app that uses a consistently structured database, consistently named tables, etc in MSSQL. We're making all kinds of tools and stuff that have to interact with it, some of them remotely and so I decided that we need to create some common, simple access point to do read/write operations on the MSSQL app since it's API is all C# and other things I despise. Now my question is if anyone has any examples or projects they know of where a ruby ORM can essentially create models for another application's legacy database by defining the conventions of each model's pkeys, fkeys, table names, etc. Sequel is the only ORM I've used with MSSQL but never to do anything quite like this. Any suggestions?

• C++ MFC add combo box string item from a widget ID

  I've added a combo box in the gui editor in MSVC 2010 pro in my MFC project. I have a list of strings I am grabbing from an external source and want to add them to my combo box. I've searched for a while, and every post seems to suggest I need to use the CComboBox class, however, I have no idea how to get the class variable from the resource ID of the combobox element in the gui editor. In summary, how do I add a string to my combo box, either using a macro (like CB_ADDSTRING(RESOURCE_ID, "my string");) or using CComboBOx (something like CComboBox::GetObject(RESOURCE_ID)->AddString("blah");). I do not do much win32 api/mfc programming, and just started fiddling around with it.

  I'd like to create HTNML documentation for a Java class library that includes programming guide information - beyond just a class reference code examples in the reference doc collapsible regions I want it to look well-styled. Something like this: I think that Javadoc exposes a doclet API that allows other parties to provide doc generation integrated in Javadoc. Is there a doclet option that I can use (for free) that does something a little nicer than the standard javadoc output? I tried googling for this but no luck. Suggestions?

• Check if a class is subclass of another class in Java

  Hi! I'm playing around with Java's reflection API and trying to handle some fields. Now I'm stuck with identifying the type of my fields. Strings are easy, just do myField.getType().equals(String.class). The same applies for other non-derived classes. But how do I check derived classes? E.g. LinkedList as subclass of List. I can't find any isSubclassOf(...) or extends(...) method. Do I need to walk through all getSuperClass() and find my supeclass by my own? Thanks! craesh

• Is vbscripting that difficult?

  I need to write some vbscripts in my new project. I was told by other people that vbscripting is easy, but seems to me, it is not. For example, in the following example (provided by microsoft), these functions: CreateObject, CreateShortcut, as well as these property names: TargetPath, WindowStyle, Hotkey, etc, are used, but I just cannot find the corresponding API documentation about how to use them. In other words, how do you know you need to call these functions in your vbscripts? Visual Studio 2008/2010 do not have templates for vbscript either. • Google Maps : How to open an InfoWindow by hovering a link?

  Hi there, i have a very simple question about Google Maps API. In this case, i have on my page a map on the left, with about 40 points, and the list of these 40 points on the right. So you know, when you click on a point of the map, the "info window" is displayed so you can see some informations about it. I can't find how can i do to simply open the "info window" on the map, by making a "hover" on the corresponding link.   I want to get address of instruction that causes external program to SIGSEGV. I tried using ptrace for this, but I'm getting EIP from kernel space (probably default signal handler?). How GDB is able to get the correct EIP? Is there a way to make GDB provide this information using some API? edit: I don't have sources of the program, only binary executable. I need automation, so I can't simply use "run", "info registers" in GDB. I want to implement "info registers" in my own mini-debugger :)

• Excluding items from TOC in Sphinx (documenter)?

  I'm using sphinx to document our internal API. For each class we're listing methods and then sub-sections under each such as Description and Examples, etc. The Table of Contents is generated automatically in the sidebar, which is great except that it lists all the sub-sections. I am looking for a way to tell Sphinx to ignore certain headings when generating the TOC. I have scoured the docs but have not found what I need. I'm sure it's something I missed. Some advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

• JavaScript QR Code Reader - can it be done? Or, Remote Service?

  I'm doing a bit of preliminary research on an upcoming project and I have a quick question that I figure I'll throw up here while I look elsewhere, in case anyone has any experience with this. The question is simple: is it possible to read a QR code using JavaScript? Is there a remote service to which I can pass a bitmap object from a camera and do it that way? Are there currently any libraries that allow this? The project is going to be deployed to various mobile devices and we'd like to try to use Appcelerator to make it work. I know Appcelerator does expose the Camera API on its host devices, but whatever we do with it has to be able to parse QR codes. Is this something that can be done? Thanks in advance! myk

  We're currently in the process of looking for an online payment service that will allow us to accept credit cards, etc. However, our business model also involves revenue sharing in a model similar to that of iTunes. That is, content creators will be able to sell content through our site and we take a small percentage of the revenue. Can anyone recommend an online payment service that supports this model? We're also interested in: Accept all major credit cards Being able to do international transactions in the appropriate local currency Recurring transactions (monthly, yearly, etc.) Additionally, if the service provided a Java API for integration or the ability to broker PayPal transactions that would be an added bonus. I know Amazon provides a hosted payment service, but I'd prefer not to require all of our customers to have an Amazon account. That provides an additional barrier to entry that we'd prefer to avoid. • Why await is not taken in consideration after deploy?

  I have a method which does some sync calls to a specific REST api, something like: WSRequestHolder url = WS.url("rest_api_url"); Promise<WS.Response> promisePerPage = url.get(); promisePerPage.getWrappedPromise().await(3000, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS); WS.Response responsePerPage = promisePerPage.get(); ProductsWrapper productsWrapper = new Gson().fromJson(responsePerPage.getBody(), ProductsWrapper.class); As you notice, I put 3 seconds between calls so each request can be parsed in time and inserted in DB. All works great locally but after I deploy to cloud, all goes continuously, without any more waiting (3 seconds) between requests... Do you know why?
