• TinyMCE: experiences, options

  Hi I am considering using TinyMCE to handle the textboxes on sites I develop. I have the production version downloaded. At first I will be using it for the backend of a client's site on a deadline and I need it to work out of the box initally. In the future I also like the customisation options. Basically, does TinyMCE work, is it stable and is it cross browser compatible in a normal server environment? I am a PHP developer with limited Javascript skills.

• HTML5 video element non-seekable when using Django development server

  Hey everyone. I've got a Django app serving a webpage with an HTML5 element. There's a wierd "feature", turning the video element to be non-seekable: video.seekable returns a timeRanges object with length=0, whereas it should be length=1. This means I can't edit the video. JavaScript can't do anything either. The thing is, when I upload the problematic webpage, statically - no Django, just plain HTML/JS/CSS - to my website for testing, it works fine - length=1. However, if I try to serve the same static page on my Django dev server still gives the same problem. I am using Django's static serving for dev/debug purposes - Do you have any idea what is causing this, or how can I fix it? Thanks.

  I am trying to get a page to display specific properties depending on whether or not a specific cookie is set...   When not using areas dealing with the url for the JsonResults from the clientside is not much of a pain, usually you can get away with hardcoding the url into your json calls and get away with it. Problem arises when you have different areas and you don't want to update all your links when you move a controller (and its views) from one area to the other. I'm not very satisfied with the way I'm handling this scenario by having this chunk of code inside every view: <script type="text/javascript"> var ControllerActions = { JsonSearch: '<%= Url.Action("JsonSearch") %>/', JsonDelete: '<%= Url.Action("JsonDelete") %>/', Edit: '<%= Url.Action("Edit") %>/', Delete: '<%= Url.Action("Delete") %>/' } </script> While it does work no matter where I place the views/controllers I wonder if there's a more elegant to do this.

  Hi This is pretty hard to explain but i'll give it a shot. Working with Safari to create an extension as is now possible with Safari 5 - how would I go about getting the URL of the current page with using JavaScript and the Safari API? I would also like to be able to get a hyperlink that is selected. For instance in Safari when you right click on a hyperlink and it says open in a new tab, open in a window etc - clicking opens that hyperlink. What part of the API is used to get access to the link itself, and how does it know its a link in the first place? I hope thats clear enough. Thanks

• Specific position for tooltip

  Hello, I have a layer which opens up as a tooltip everytime I hover a button. I simply did that by creating a JS function which displays or hides the layer. Now, I am not a pro in JavaScript. My problem is the following: when the button is scrolled towards the top oft he screen I want the tooltip opening below – and if the button is near the bottom of the screen I want the tooltip opening above. Right now I just did it with absolute positioning. But obviously that doesnt do the trick. Who can help? Thanks!

• from JS to iphone dev - what's the best language to start with?

  I am a total beginner and would like to eventually learn to develop for the iphone. I have just done a beginner's CS course where the language we learned was JavaScript. We studied basic concepts like: variables, arrays, loops (for,while,if,if..else..), properties and functions. I'm wondering if I am starting in the right/wrong place by following this book: Learn C on the Mac by Dave Mark? I have read a few chapters and am finding it a bit hard to get my head around the way that C works, for example the way that Strings are printed seems overly complicated as compared to JS. Do you think that JS was the wrong language to start off with and would I be better to go from JS straight to Objective-C rather than to C? I have tried to read up on previous threads on the merits/demerits of learning C first but haven't found any that relate JS to learning C/Obj C/ Cocoa. Any advice appreciated as I am very new to this. Thanks

  In some JavaScript code snippets (e.g. http://mckoss.com/jscript/object.htm) I have seen objects being created in this way: var obj = new Foo; However, at least at MDC, it seems that the parentheses are not optional when creating an object: var obj = new Foo(); Is the former way of creating objects valid and defined in the ECMA standard?   I'm having problems with wordpress mishandling accented characters, or maybe the problem is with some plugin. Whichever the case I need to "translate" some strings, removing accents which i do with: $value = strtr($value, $trans); I really need to change this string which renders the user's location but it's printed with a script so I have no idea how to do it: <script language="javascript"> document.write('' + geoip_city() +''); </script> Is there a way to assign it's result to a php value beforehand or something?   In Javascript/CoffeeScript, using Leaflet to display a map, I would like to have custom markers out of a two custom images, and also featuring a shadow for the pin : I want to have a "background" image with a color (or shape) to identify the category On top, I want to have inside this image a specific image (logo) for each pin I didn't find out how I could do that... Setting one image is quite easy but I don't know how to overlay them. I could also consider using a tool to superpose/group/overlay these images (locally ?) before in order to send only one to the Icon Leaflet Class, but also there, I wouldn't know which tool to use. Nevertheless, I still think that a double overlay would be more efficient and that my case could be useful for several people.

• Prototype Element.remove() not working in IE

  Hi there. I have a javascript function that gets a DIV by an ID and makes a clone. Then, removes the original DIV from DOM and inserts the cloned object..Everything works fine, except in IE, because the original DIV is never removed... var loadingDiv = $(Sybil.conf.loadingDivId), loadingClone = loadingDiv.clone(true); console.log($$('.loadingImg')); loadingDiv.remove(); //Insert the loading div on the page again elt.insert({after: loadingClone}); [loadingClone].invoke(func); console.log($$('.loadingImg')); The div also has a span inside with the class "loadingImg", so i just used the console.log to check how many elements there are. FF always prints [span.loadingImg] but IE prints [span.loadingImg,span.loadingImg] on the second console.log... Any idea of what might be happening? Thanks

• jquery issues - it wont change it accordingly

  My coding isnt linking properly , its meant to use jquery to detect the OS and change the link accordingly , however it isn't. Note that these change depending on the product loaded. These are not constants. I would guess the first thing to do was to add the thickbox class. Then I am lost as to what to do next. Basically I need to open up an thickbox iframe with the modified markup.

• Which Java Web Framework allows Cross-Domain Javascripting (http proxy) ?

  So just a quick intro, I am starting to explore Vaadin, and it's absolutely perfect. Previously, I was juggling PHP, Perl, Ruby, and Jquery for designing rich client web application. It didn't work out too well, as I've burnt out from trying to fix cross browser issues (aka get-it-to-work-on-IE-damn-it), handling server-side, client-side, and building a robust communication between the two tier had lot of code not related to application logic....by the time I was burnt out, only tiny bit of application logic was implemented. Vaadin seems like the answer to my problem as it only requires Java and built on top of GWT. However, I am curious how I can incorporate Cross-Domain Javascripting ? Back in LAMP environment, I had a CGI proxy script that loaded external URL, and injected JS into the proxy-loaded page. I used the CGI proxy script, as it rendered Javascript of the external URL well. Is there a class or package for Java or a specific Java web framework similiar to Vaadin that makes this possible ? • iPhone/Safari: fixed div sticks in the middle of the page when coming back by "history.back(-1)"

  Having a problem with fixed div using iPhone's Safari. I know that in iOS 5 the functionality for position:fixed have been added. My div is positioned at the top of the screen and behave pretty good, anyway, there are some bugs during scrolling. But what actually makes me angry - it is the position of this div after coming back to the current page clicking on javascript:history.back(-1) link. The fixed div sticks in the middle of a screen. When I try to scrool, it jumps back on the right position. Is there any cure for the bug?

• node.js storing gamestate, how?

  I'm writing a game in javascript, and to prevent cheating, i'm having the game be played on the server (it's a board game like a more complicated checkers). Since the game is fairly complex, I need to store the gamestate in order to validate client actions. Is it possible to store the gamestate in memory? Is that smart? Should I do that? If so, how? I don't know how that would work. I can also store in redis. And that sort of thing is pretty familiar to me and requires no explanation. But if I do store in redis, the problem is that on every single move, the game would need to get the data from redis and interpret and parse that data in order to recreate the gamestate from scratch. But since moves happen very frequently this seems very stupid to me. What should I do?

  Using Javascript / jQuery, I'm trying to build a "combination checker" that will take the values of three (but can be more) dropdown lists and filter the options based on a supplied list of allowed combinations. For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

• Robust way to display an image with one fixed dimension

  Lets say that we have an image uploaded by the user, the upload script limits the mb but not the image size (so could be any proportion, 600X200,200X350, and so...). Im already showing this image in one part on my site using the twitter bootstrap image handler written on css, thats good for a profile picture, the problem is that now I want that image to be a cover (like facebook/twitter cover image), my site is responsive so the width of the cover is 900px or 100% if the screen resolution is less than 900px wide. The height is always fixed to 200px. So I know there is a way to control the correct image display using CSS (maybe with jquery too) but Im not a front-end dev, Im a php dev and I dont want to use server side scripts for doing this. So im looking for suggestions or pieces of codes (css, javascript) to start with, I belive that it have to be an already made solution for this, but I dont find any on google. Thanks for any advice!

• How to open an html file using the default file handler and to give the window a name (i.e. target)?

  I am writing a warm-up script for a SharePoint server. The idea is to call stsadm and then open an html file containing iframes which touch all the key web pages in my portal. So far so good. The problem is that each time the script is run, a new browser window is opened and I end up with a screen full of browsers. The first idea was to close the browser after 10 minutes or so. This would be easy to do except that Javascript is disabled when an html file is opened from the file system. I then thought I might be able to open the file and set it in a named window (target) which would be reused each time the script runs but I haven't found any way to do this. Does anyone have any ideas? Either to force JS to run or to set the window name or another solution? Thanks.

• How to split the chance to display SWFs evenly among banner collection?

  Hi all: I am working on The ausdcf.org to try adding several banner ads in swf format to the top. Everything starts to work, but I've got several questions that need your help: The client chose not to go with Google AdManager, but prefer a "minimal approach" to do this task. What I am trying to do is sort of "mimicking" the way Google AdManager does for banners, that is, to split the chance of each particular swf to be shown to the visitor evenly among the banner collection. Definitely I can add some jQuery code to do this from client-side, a random number generator and if-else statement would work - just $.load() it! However, what if I'd like to make sure those disabled Javascript (is there any now btw?) still be able to see different swfs in each visit. Any suggestion on how to approach this? Many thanks in advance.
