    I made another GoAnimate video - this time it's about using LDAP for database passwords. Since it's on the free site - I didn't want to violate any terms of agreement - so it doesn't mention Oracle explicitly. But if you wanted to actually do what the animation talks about with Oracle database - you need to configure the Oracle database to use Oracle Enterprise User Security. EUS requires OVD or OID and works with most popular LDAP servers including Active Directory and of course our newest Oracle Directory member - Directory Server Enterprise Edition (aka the former Sun directory).   • Scope of Connection Object for a Website using Connection Pooling (Local or Instance)

    For a web application with connection polling enabled, is it better to work with a locally scoped connection object or instance scoped connection object. I know there is probably not a big performance improvement between the two (because of the pooling) but would you say that one follows a better pattern than the other.   • tptp/profiling of web-application within eclipse - no data collectors available

    Hi, I have a problem with tptp/profiling within eclipse. Because at first I had some very strange problems, I downloaded the “TPTP all-in-one package” (tptp.runtime.allInOne.win32.win32.x86-TPTP-4.6.2.zip) and added the stuff I need (Jboss-Tools, etc.) I am using Windows XP SP3, Java 6u20, Eclipse 3.5.2.(, jboss-4.2.3.GA-jdk6) In "Profile Configurations"/Tab "Monitor" I got “IWAT0435E An error occurred when connecting to the host” and in the “Profile on Server” Window in the tab Monitor I got only “pre-JRE 1.5“ as choice. After disabling an enabling the IAC in “Preferences”/”Agent Controller” that IWAT...-problem was gone but now I don't get anything in the “Profile on Server”/”Monitor” tab, but it says “[Monitor] The launch requires at least one data collector to be selected.” any ideas?

    Hi, It seems the universe is against me this week. I have been happily coding away on my ASP.Net application for weeks now without issues. Today I tried to add a textbox to a form, and on saving the form, I received the following error: Generation of designer file failed: Cannot use a leading .. to exit above the top directory I googled, but with no luck. The expression "^(.*(?<=/)([^/.]*))$" has an invalid syntax. However, this regular expression works in .NET. What regular expressions are supported by IIS Url Rewrite Module? How to make positive lookbehind assertion?

    Hello guys, question on dock panels within gwt So i want the dockpanel to take up the whole size of the browser window dockPanel.setSize("100%", "100%"); if this correct Next Question, i am going to add a north panel , that will be 100px high and take up the whole width of the browser topPanel.setSize("100%", "100px"); dockPanel.add(topPanel, DockPanel.NORTH); is this correct, then i want to add a west panel that is 200px wide and the whole length of the browser up to just under the north panel westSideStackPanel.setSize("200px","100%") mainPanel.add(westSideStackPanel,DockPanel.WEST); i have created all this but when i look at my dockpanel there is a big gap between the west panel and the north panel the whole way accross the screen. why would this be? The north panel stays at 100px, and then there is a gap of about 100px high the whole width of the screen.

    Hi, We are developing an e-Banking web application for a small bank (up to 20000 clients/users). We have to implement digital signatures with X509 certificates (issued by CA on USB tokens) for signing payment information. We tried using CAPICOM but it seems that it is not working well with Windows Vista (have not tried it with Win 7). The other problem is that core banking system can process only Xml digital signatures, so we have to sign XML documents (not just a bulk-formatted text data like with CAPICOM and Win32 Crypto API). So my questions here are: Does anyone of you have similar problem and how did they solved it? Is there a plug-in, library, component or external tool (for Internet Explorer and/or Fire Fox) that supports XML Digital Signatures in a web application? Can you please recommend some of these products and write something about your experience with them? Thank you very much.

    I'm looking for a basic web-based file management application. It must have an affordable price, and fairly easy installation would be a plus. ASP.Net / IIS based would be easiest for me to work with. Basically, I'd like it to create a secure web site where myself and a few people can exchange various types of files, etc. I'm looking for a package I can install on my own server rather than a web-based service, as I think I can get more space at a good price point this way. I could go custom coding, but I figure this is such a generic need, there must be something already mature out there at a decent price. What has worked best for you?

  • sproutcore vs javascriptMVC for web app development

    Hi, I want to use a javascript framework with MVC for a complex web application (which will be one of a set of related apps and pages) for an intranet in a digital archives. I have been looking at SproutCore and JavascriptMVC. I want to choose one framework and stick with it. Does anybody know what the distinguishing features are when comparing these two? I want something that is simple, straightforward that I can customize/hack easily, and that doesn't get in my way too much, but that at the same time gives me a basis for keeping my code nicely organized, and event-driven. I also plan on using jquery substantially. I know sproutcore is backed by Apple, and looks like it is getting more popular by the day, and it has a nice green website :), whereas JavascriptMVC looks less professional, with less of a following and less momentum behind it. I've done the tutorials for both and I was impressed by SproutCore more (in the JMVC tutorial you don't really do anything substantial) - but somewhere in the back of my mind I feel that JMVC might just be better because it doesn't try and do too much - it just gives you MVC functionality based on a couple of jquery plugins, and you can use jquery for everything else, so its flexible. Whereas SproutCore seems to have more of its own API etc... which is also nice in a way... but then you're kind of stuck within that.... hmmm I'm confused :). Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

  • Is anyone else receiving a QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR on their iPad when accessing localStorage?

    I have a web application written in JavaScript that runs successfully on the desktop via Safari as well as on the iPhone. We are looking at porting this application to the iPad and we are running into a problem where we are seeing QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR when storing a relatively small amount of data within the localStorage on the device. I know what this error means, but I just don't think I'm storing all that much data. Is anyone else doing something similar? And seeing/not seeing this problem? Kevin...

  • SPARC M7 Chip - 32 cores - Mind Blowing performance

    The M7 Chip Oracle just announced its Next Generation Processor at the HotChips HC26 conference. As the Tech Lead in our Systems Division's Partner group, I had a front row seat to the extraordinary price performance advantage of Oracle current T5 and M6 based systems. Partner after partner tested  these systems and were impressed with it performance. Just read some of the quotes to see what our partner has been saying about our hardware. We just announced our next generation processor, the M7. This has 32 cores (up from 16-cores in T5 and 12-cores in M6). With 20 nm technology  this is our most advanced processor. The processor has more cores than anything else in the industry today. After the Sun acquisition Oracle has released 5 processors in 4 years and this is the 6th.  The S4 core  The M7 is built using the foundation of the S4 core. This is the next generation core technology. Like its predecessor, the S4 has 8 dynamic threads. It increases the frequency while maintaining the Pipeline depth. Each core has its own fine grain power estimator that keeps the core within its power envelop in 250 nano-sec granularity. Each core also includes Software in Silicon features for Application Acceleration Support. Each core includes features to improve Application Data Integrity, with almost no performance loss. The core also allows using part of the Virtual Address to store meta-data.  User-Level Synchronization Instructions are also part of the S4 core. Each core has 16 KB Instruction and 16 KB Data L1 cache. The Core Clusters  The cores on the M7 chip are organized in sets of 4-core clusters. The core clusters share  L2 cache.  All four cores in the complex share 256 KB of 4 way set associative L2 Instruction Cache, with over 1/2 TB/s of throughput. Two cores share 256 KB of 8 way set associative L2 Data Cache, with over 1/2 TB/s of throughput. With this innovative Core Cluster architecture, the M7 doubles core execution bandwidth. to maximize per-thread performance.  The Chip  Each  M7 chip has 8 sets of these core-clusters. The chip has 64 MB on-chip L3 cache. This L3 caches is shared among all the cores and is partitioned into 8 x 8 MB chunks. Each chunk is  8-way set associative cache. The aggregate bandwidth for the L3 cache on the chip is over 1.6TB/s. Each chip has 4 DDR4 memory controllers and can support upto 16 DDR4 DIMMs, allowing for 2 TB of RAM/chip. The chip also includes 4 internal links of PCIe Gen3 I/O controllers.  Each chip has 7 coherence links, allowing for 8 of these chips to be connected together gluelessly. Also 32 of these chips can be connected in an SMP configuration. A potential system with 32 chips will have 1024 cores and 8192 threads and 64 TB of RAM.  Software in Silicon The M7 chip has many built in Application Accelerators in Silicon. These features will be exposed to our Software partners using the SPARC Accelerator Program.  The M7  has built-in logic to decompress data at the speed of memory access. This means that applications can directly work on compressed data in memory increasing the data access rates. The VA Masking feature allows the use of part of the virtual address to store meta-data.  Realtime Application Data Integrity The Realtime Application Data Integrity feature helps applications safeguard against invalid, stale memory reference and buffer overflows. The first 4-bits if the Pointer can be used to store a version number and this version number is also maintained in the memory & cache lines. When a pointer accesses memory the hardware checks to make sure the two versions match. A SEGV signal is raised when there is a mismatch. This feature can be used by the Database, applications and the OS.  M7 Database In-Memory Query Accelerator The M7 chip also includes a In-Silicon Query Engines.  These accelerate tasks that work on In-Memory Columnar Vectors. Oracle In-Memory options stores data in Column Format. The M7 Query Engine can speed up In-Memory Format Conversion, Value and Range Comparisons and Set Membership lookups. This engine can work on Compressed data - this means not only are we accelerating the query performance but also increasing the memory bandwidth for queries.  SPARC Accelerated Program  At the Hotchips conference we also introduced the SPARC Accelerated Program to provide our partners and third part developers access to all the goodness of the M7's SPARC Application Acceleration features.   • WebApps tendency

    There is a strong tendency of making web apps and even seems that very soon a lot of features will be available online so that for every day use people will have all necessary software free online and they will not need to install any software locally. Only specific (professional) tools that usually people don’t use at home will not be available as a web app. So my question, how do you imagine selling software that was necessary for everyday use and was not free (seems they can't make money any more by selling their product – no need of those products). And what disadvantages have web apps, that is to say, what is bad to use software online compared with having the same software locally (please list)? Please do not consider this question not connected with programming, as I would like to have a little statistics from professional programmers who are aware from nowday’s tendency of software and programming.   • Using WFC authentication service for web application

    I am using a WFC authentication service I set up with a web application. I have successfully set up and tested the AuthenticationService and RolesService. The web application can successfully call methods like ValidateUser and GetRolesForCurrentUser through the WFC services. I want to integrate the WFC authentication service with my web.config and site.map. Do I need to write a custom provider, or is there some way I can modify the web.config of the web application to use the WFC authentication service as its membership provider? This way I can set what roles have access to what directories based off the WFC authentication service.

  • Knowledge base web app -- need a demo mode

    I was contracted to build an on-line knowledge base that searches and cross-references many thousands of replacement parts for a niche industry. My client furnishes this app to his customers on a subscription basis. It uses MySQL and PHP and it works great. I want to deploy it in "demo mode" to sell my skills. I want the user to see the functions, but I have to guard the data for my client. My first idea was to obfuscate the results. That's at cross-purposes with showing how well it searches. I'm considering a limit on how many searches you can perform, but that's awkward too as someone could visit every day and get more answers than we would prefer. Other posts I've found are about letting people interact with an app, but without the challenge of protecting a big knowledge base. Can you suggest an approach? (Note, I put the tag obfuscation, but not sure it applies because java code obfuscation seems to be unrelated.)
