    As content fluctuates on our site, we will obviously add the titles to the new pages to our sitemap, and link list for search engine indexing. Through time, certain links will become less relevant, and would like to know how to avoid them being crawled. The links themselves may not be removed - but we don't want to dilute the link list with less relevant links as time passes. I'm guessing the status code of the page would change - to what?   • How can I debug what's slowing down new session logins?

    For a while, I've had an issue whereby it takes up to 5 minutes from the moment I enter my password in Lightdm's login screen until I can do anything with my computer. That's on Ubuntu 12.04. During that time, I see there is disk activity, but I'm not sure how to figure out what's causing it and whether that is the real cause. I've played around with Bootchart unsuccessfully. Any ideas on what the best way to debug this issue is?

  • Oredev 2012: Summary and source code

    This week, I had the pleasure to be invited to talk at Oredev, a really cool conference taking place in Malmo, Sweden. The whole event is awesome, including a very special dinner on Monday including sauna and swimming in a 6 degrees cold Baltic sea, and a reception with dinner at the town hall, including the mayor himself. Considering Malmo is a town of 300'000 inhabitants, it is a pretty nice occasion and the historical building itself is really worth seeing. For those interested, I placed my pictures on my Flickr account. I had a workshop on Tuesday morning about Windows 8 development with XAML/C#, and then a session on Wednesday about MVVM in Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8, of course using MVVM Light. I was very nervous because I reworked some of my demos as recently as this morning, in the wake of the Build conference last week and the release of both the Windows Phone SDK and MVVM Light V4.1. Everything went well however, and if I judge by the people I talked t after the talk, and Twitter, everything went pretty well. Before my talk on Tuesday, I had the pleasure to see a talk by Iris Classon (@irisclasson) on the challenges of being a "n00b" and a woman in software development. I especially appreciated her research and conclusions on the lack of women I our industry, a topic that is dear to my heart (because I want the best possible future for my two daughters, and also because I really enjoy working with women on projects, and getting a different insight on the art of software development. I really want to thank the excellent organization committee for their hard work and their fantastic welcome to Malmo. In particular Emily Holweck did a wonderful job and was super helpful throughout the preparation and the conference itself. I made a few pictures during my stay, all with the new Nokia Lumia 920, and hope you will enjoy them too. The source code and the slides… The source code is available for download from Skydrive.   • Computer suddenly dies; screen displays weird flickering lines, then restarts

    I've been having this terrible problem for a little while and just managed to get a picture of 'dead screen' for the first time and I am posting it to seek help. Randomly, at irregular intervals (typically once a week), while working on something (it's been different things every time) my computer will just suddenly go dead - the screen turns to exactly the picture below (the lines flicker a little bit), it hangs there for a few seconds and then restarts. Obviously this is extremely frustrating and I want to try to stop it. I've searched numerous postings with similar keywords but nothing exactly the same as mine. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? I would post all my system settings and installed programs but the list is long and I don't know how much relevance each item would be.   • I am getting disconnected from DSL modem and can't connect unless I restart.

    I am using Ubuntu very recently. My DSL connection with the modem is working fine but after certain idle time the modem connection is getting disconnected and I am not getting the icons to reconnect. If I go to System Settings-- Network, it is showing "Network cable is unplugged". It works fine if i reboot. This is a sudden problem and no configuration has been altered. I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with latest updates.
