  • Outputing struct to NSLog for debugging?

    - by fuzzygoat
I am just curious, is there a way to print via NSLog the contents of a struct? id <MKAnnotation> mp = [annotationView annotation]; MKCoordinateRegion region = MKCoordinateRegionMakeWithDistance([mp coordinate], 350, 350); I am trying to output whats in [mp coordinate] for debugging. . EDIT_001: I cracked it, well unless there is another way. id <MKAnnotation> mp = [annotationView annotation]; CLLocationCoordinate2D location = [mp coordinate]; NSLog(@"LAT: %f LON: %f", location.latitude, location.longitude); many thanks gary

  • When should you NOT use the asterisk (*) when declaring a variable in Objective C

    - by Jason
I have just started learning objective c and the asterisk is giving me some trouble. As I look through sample code, sometime it is used when declaring a variable and sometimes it is not. What are the "rules" for when it should be used. I thought it had something to do with the data type of the variable. (asterisk needed for object data types, not needed for simple data types like int) However, I have seen object data types such as CGPoint declared without the asterisk as well? Is there a definitive answer or does it have to do with how and what you use the variable for?

  • Receiving Error Domain=kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=2 when attempting to read from ReadStream

    - by theactiveactor
I'm attempting to synchronously read from a CFReadStream objected created by CFStreamCreatePairWithSocketToHost. The stream opened fine but when I attempt to invoke CFReadStreamRead on it in a loop, CFReadStreamRead() returns -1 and the resulting error is: Error Domain=kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=2 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 2.)" UserInfo=0x14a920 {kCFGetAddrInfoFailureKey=8} I'm also receiving this same exact error when using this ReadStream asynchronously- the first callback I receive is this error.

  • Memory Leaks - Objective-C

    Can anyone help point out memory leaks? I'm getting a bunch within this method and I'm not sure exactly how to fix it. - (NSMutableArray *)getTop5AndOtherKeysAndValuesFromDictionary:(NSMutableDictionary *)dict { NSLog(@"get top 5"); int sumOfAllValues = 0; NSMutableArray *arr = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; for(NSString *key in dict){ NSString *value = [[dict objectForKey:key] retain]; [arr addObject:value]; sumOfAllValues += [value intValue]; } //sort values NSArray *sorted = [[arr sortedArrayUsingFunction:sort context:NULL] retain]; [arr release]; //top 5 values int sumOfTop5 = 0; NSMutableArray *top5 = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; for(int i = 0; i < 5; i++) { int proposedIndex = [sorted count] - 1 - i; if(proposedIndex >= 0) { [top5 addObject:[sorted objectAtIndex:([sorted count] - i - 1)]]; sumOfTop5 += [[sorted objectAtIndex:([sorted count] - i - 1)] intValue]; } } [sorted release]; //copy of all keys NSMutableArray *copyOfKeys = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; for(NSString *key in dict) { [copyOfKeys addObject:key]; } //copy of top 5 values NSMutableArray *copyOfTop5 = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; for(int i = 0; i < [top5 count]; i++) { [copyOfTop5 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:i]]; } //get keys with top 5 values NSMutableArray *outputKeys = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] retain]; for(int i = 0; i < [top5 count]; i++) { NSString *targetValue = [top5 objectAtIndex:i]; for(int j = 0; j < [copyOfKeys count]; j++) { NSString *key = [copyOfKeys objectAtIndex:j]; NSString *val = [dict objectForKey:key]; if([val isEqualToString:targetValue]) { [outputKeys addObject:key]; [copyOfKeys removeObjectAtIndex:j]; break; } } } [outputKeys addObject:@"Other"]; [top5 addObject:[[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",(sumOfAllValues - sumOfTop5)] retain]]; NSMutableArray *output = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [output addObject:outputKeys]; [output addObject:top5]; NSMutableArray *percents = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; int sum = sumOfAllValues; float leftOverSum = sum * 1.0f; int count = [top5 count]; float val1, val2, val3, val4, val5; if(count >= 1) val1 = ([[top5 objectAtIndex:0] intValue] * 1.0f)/sum; else val1 = 0.0f; if(count >=2) val2 = ([[top5 objectAtIndex:1] intValue] * 1.0f)/sum; else val2 = 0.0f; if(count >= 3) val3 = ([[top5 objectAtIndex:2] intValue] * 1.0f)/sum; else val3 = 0.0f; if(count >= 4) val4 = ([[top5 objectAtIndex:3] intValue] * 1.0f)/sum; else val4 = 0.0f; if(count >=5) val5 = ([[top5 objectAtIndex:4] intValue] * 1.0f)/sum; else val5 = 0.0f; if(val1 >= .00001f) { NSMutableArray *a1 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [a1 addObject:[outputKeys objectAtIndex:0]]; [a1 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:0]]; [a1 addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.01f",(val1*100)]]; [percents addObject:a1]; leftOverSum -= ([[top5 objectAtIndex:0] intValue] * 1.0f); } if(val2 >= .00001f) { NSMutableArray *a2 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [a2 addObject:[outputKeys objectAtIndex:1]]; [a2 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:1]]; [a2 addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.01f",(val2*100)]]; [percents addObject:a2]; leftOverSum -= ([[top5 objectAtIndex:1] intValue] * 1.0f); } if(val3 >= .00001f) { NSMutableArray *a3 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [a3 addObject:[outputKeys objectAtIndex:2]]; [a3 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:2]]; [a3 addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.01f",(val3*100)]]; [percents addObject:a3]; leftOverSum -= ([[top5 objectAtIndex:2] intValue] * 1.0f); } if(val4 >= .00001f) { NSMutableArray *a4 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [a4 addObject:[outputKeys objectAtIndex:3]]; [a4 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:3]]; [a4 addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.01f",(val4*100)]]; [percents addObject:a4]; leftOverSum -= ([[top5 objectAtIndex:3] intValue] * 1.0f); } if(val5 >= .00001f) { NSMutableArray *a5 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [a5 addObject:[outputKeys objectAtIndex:4]]; [a5 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:4]]; [a5 addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.01f",(val5*100)]]; [percents addObject:a5]; leftOverSum -= ([[top5 objectAtIndex:4] intValue] * 1.0f); } float valOther = (leftOverSum/sum); if(valOther >= .00001f) { NSMutableArray *a6 = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [a6 addObject:[outputKeys objectAtIndex:5]]; [a6 addObject:[top5 objectAtIndex:5]]; [a6 addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.01f",(valOther*100)]]; [percents addObject:a6]; } [output addObject:percents]; NSLog(@"mu - a"); //[arr release]; NSLog(@"mu - b"); //[copyOfKeys release]; NSLog(@"mu - c"); //[copyOfTop5 release]; NSLog(@"mu - c"); //[outputKeys release]; //[top5 release]; //[percents release]; return output; }

  • How should I load a xib into a detail view for a split view iPad objective app?

    - by editor
I've got a split view iPad app with table view in the master pane. After drilling down several levels, each time loading a new .xib, I'd like one of the cells to trigger a web page load in the detail pane. Right now I can only get the web page .xib to load in the master pane side -- which is a master pain in my side. The basic load call where "URLWindow" is a class loaded with initWithNibName: [[self navigationController] pushViewController:URLWindow animated:YES]; I want to do this, but it doesn't seem to work: @interface @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet DetailViewController *detailViewController; ... @implementation [[self detailViewController] pushViewController:URLWindow animated:YES]; How should I be loading the URLWindow .xib into a detail view for a split view detail pane?

  • Core Data multi-threading

    - by JK
My app starts by presenting a tableview whose datasource is a Core Data SQLite store. When the app starts, a secondary thread with its own store controller and context is created to obtain updates from the web for data in the store. However, any resulting changes to the store are not notified to the fetchedresults controller (I presume because it has its own coordinator) and consequently the table is not updated with store changes. What would be the most efficient way to refresh the context on the main thread? I am considering tracking the objectIDs of any objects changed on the secondary thread, sending those to the main thread when the secondary thread completes and invoking "[context refreshObject:....] Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Building a clip area in a UIView from path objects in its subviews

    - by hkatz
I'm trying to produce a clipping area in a UIView that's generated from path objects in its subviews. For example, I might have one subview containing a square and another containing a circle. I want to be able to produce a clip in the parent superview that's the union of both these shapes. Can someone explain how to do this? About all I've been able to figure out so far is that: 1 - the superview's drawRect: method is called before its subviews' drawRects are, and 2 - the ContextRef that's accessible in all three instances is the same. Other than that I'm stumped. Thanks, Howard

  • touchesBegin & touchesMove Xcode Obj C Question

    - by AndrewDK
So I have my app working good when you press and drag along. I also have UIButtons set to Touch Down in Interface Builder. As well when you drag you need to drag from the outside of the UIButton. You cannot click on the UIButton and drag to the other. TOUCHES MOVED: Code: -(void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [[event touchesForView:self.view] anyObject]; CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:touch.view]; if(CGRectContainsPoint(oneButton.frame, location)) { if (!oneButton.isHighlighted){ [self oneFunction]; [oneButton setHighlighted:YES]; } }else { [oneButton setHighlighted:NO]; } // if(CGRectContainsPoint(twoButton.frame, location)) { if (!twoButton.isHighlighted){ [self twoFunction]; [twoButton setHighlighted:YES]; } }else { [twoButton setHighlighted:NO]; } } TOUCHES BEGAN: Code: - (void) touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [[event touchesForView:self.view] anyObject]; CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:touch.view]; if(CGRectContainsPoint(oneButton.frame, location)) { [self oneFunction]; [oneButton setHighlighted:YES]; } if(CGRectContainsPoint(twoButton.frame, location)) { [self twoFunction]; [twoButton setHighlighted:YES]; } } I want to be able to click on any of the button fire the function & also be able to drag from one button on to the other and fire that function. So basically just being able to click on a button and slide your finger over and activate the other button without having to press and slide from outside of the button. I think I'm close, need a bit of help. Hope thats clear enough. Thanks.

  • selectedSegmentIndex not updating UISegmentControl

    - by munchine
In my viewDidLoad, I'm retrieving user preferences and updating the settings tab. It is working for editSelection (see code) but the other NSUserDefaults *userDefaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; BOOL editSelection = [userDefaults boolForKey:@"editToggleSwitch"]; editingToggle.selectedSegmentIndex = editSelection; // this is working! bToggle.selectedSegmentIndex = [[userDefaults objectForKey:@"bSegment"] intValue]; In the view, the editingToggle segment is displaying correctly but bToggle is always at 0? NSLog shows that the data was saved and retrieved correctly. I've even set bToggle.selectedSegmentIndex = 1; but it still does not reflect correctly in the view? Any ideas?

  • Custom Annotation not showing all

    - by funatsg
    Okay, i have a number of pins on the mapkit. These pins showing different types of attractions. (E.g Parks, Farms and etc) I want to add custom images for these different types of pin. Parks have a park image and vice versa. However, when i added in, not all the images are showing successfully. For example, in parks, it should have 5 pins, but the image only came up in 2 pins, whereas other 3 is in default red pins. But if i used colours to differentiate them. For example, [pinsetPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorGreen]; It works! Anyone knows what is the problem? Relevant codes below. Tell me if you need more. thanks! - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(id <MKAnnotation>)annotation{ if ([annotation isKindOfClass:MKUserLocation.class]) { //user location view is being requested, //return nil so it uses the default which is a blue dot... return nil; } //NSLog(@"View for Annotation is called"); MKPinAnnotationView *pin=[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:nil]; pin.userInteractionEnabled=TRUE; MapEvent* event = (MapEvent*)annotation; NSLog(@"thetype: %@", event.thetype); if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"adv"]) { //[pin setPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorGreen]; pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"padv.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"muse"]){ //[pin setPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorPurple]; pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"pmuse.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"nightlife"]){ pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"pnight.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"parks"]){ pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"ppark.png"]; } else if ([event.thetype isEqualToString:@"farms"]){ pin.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"pfarm.png"]; } else { [pin setPinColor:MKPinAnnotationColorRed]; } pin.canShowCallout = YES; pin.animatesDrop = YES; UIButton *rightButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeDetailDisclosure]; [rightButton addTarget:self action:@selector(clickAnnotation:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [rightButton setTitle:event.uniqueID forState:UIControlStateNormal]; pin.rightCalloutAccessoryView = rightButton; return pin; }

  • addSublayer vs addSubView which is more efficient?

    - by soonio
I have 5 UIImageViews for displaying 5 images. For my app, I need swap the order of them depending on some events. I achieve this by calling: [anImageView1 removeFromSuperview]; [self.view insertSubview:anImageView1 aboveSubview:anImageView2]; Recently, I've come across a different method for doing this using 1 UIView and 5 UIImageViews. Each layer of UIImageViews are added to this UIView by calling [aView.layer addSublayer:anImageView1.layer]; [aView.layer addSublayer:anImageView2.layer]; etc. and then in order to swap the order of things by calling [anImageView1.layer removeFromSuperLayer]; [aView.layer insertSublayer:anImageView1 above: anImageView2] Both methods work fine, but can someone please point out which method is better and why? I really can't seem to be able to find much on CALayer... Please help! Thank you so much!

  • Cocos2D: Problem Rotating a CCMenu

    - by srikanth rongali
If I try to do actions over menuItems but the actions are not running as expected. I think code below should make the menuItem rotate by 90 degrees but when I run it, the menuItem translates from its coordinates to another coordinate then returns to its original coordinate. The complete translation takes 3 seconds. What I need is for the menuItem to rotate by 90 degrees in place within a 3 seconds duration. Please explain where I have done wrong? CCMenuItemImage *targetE;//Globally declared CCMenu *menu;//Globally declared -(id)init { if( (self = [super init]) ) { isTouchEnabled = YES; CGSize windowSize = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] winSize]; targetE = [CCMenuItemImage itemFromNormalImage:@"grossinis_sister1.png" selectedImage:@"grossinis_sister1.png" target:self selector:@selector(touch:)]; menu = [CCMenu menuWithItems:targetE,nil]; id action4 = [CCRotateBy actionWithDuration:3.0 angle:90]; [menu runAction: [CCSequence actions: action4, nil]]; menu.position = ccp(windowSize.width/2 + 200, windowSize.height/2); [self addChild: menu z:10]; } return self; } @end Thank You.

  • NSString sizeWithFont: returning inconsistent results? known bug?

    - by Olof Hedman
I'm trying to create a simple custom UIView wich contain a string drawn with a single font, but where the first character is slightly larger. I thought this would be easily implemented with two UILabel:s placed next to eachother. I use NSString sizeWithFont to measure my string to be able to lay it out correctly. But I noticed that the font baseline in the returned rectangle varies with +/- 1 pixel depending on the font size I set. Here is my code: NSString* ctxt = [text substringToIndex:1]; NSString* ttxt = [text substringFromIndex:1]; CGSize sz = [ctxt sizeWithFont: cfont ]; clbl = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, sz.width, sz.height)]; clbl.text = ctxt; clbl.font = cfont; clbl.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [contentView addSubview:clbl]; CGSize sz2 = [ttxt sizeWithFont: tfont]; tlbl = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(sz.width, (sz.height - sz2.height), sz2.width, sz2.height)]; tlbl.text = ttxt; tlbl.font = tfont; tlbl.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [contentView addSubview:tlbl]; If I use 12.0 and 14.0 as sizes, it works fine. But if I instead use 13.0 and 15.0, then the first character is 1 pixel too high. Is this a known problem? Any suggestions how to work around it? Creating a UIWebView with a CSS and HTML page seems way overkill for this. and more work to handle dynamic strings. Is that what I'm expected to do?

  • UITabBarController's 'More' navigation controller disappears under UINavigationController

    - by lennox_19
I am using a UITabBarController as well as a UINavigationController on my app. In my UITabBarController I am using more than 5 items so I automatically get the 'More' item. I've managed to add a saving procedure so the order of those items will be kept in case somebody changes the order etc. With 'More' active I get the More navigation controller with the 'Edit' item positioned under my UINavigationController. Both navigation controller are visible. When I click on 'Edit though the More navigation controller disappears and seem to be hiding under my UINavigationController and therefore I can't see/use the 'Done' function to save my new order What did I miss? Cheers

  • Applying the same function to each object of an array in objective-c

    - by sagar
Hey ! every one. I am having some query regarding Objective-c. Let's have a look to following code. NSArray *ar=[scrPDFPage subviews]; int i; for (i=0; i<[ar count]; i++) { [(UIView*)[ar objectAtIndex:i] removeFromSuperview]; } now my queries are as follows, Instead of rotating a loop, isn't there an option like, [ar applyFunctionToObjects:@selector(myFunction:)] Isn't there any option like [myView removeAllSubViews]; ( According to my knowledge, there is no option like remove all sub views, but in case you might know. ) Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge. Sagar.

  • UITextInput setMarkedText:selectedRange not working? (Can't be!)

    - by nacho4d
I want to set the marked text programmatically and since iOS5 UITextView and UITextField conform to UITextInput this should be possible but for some reason I always get the markedText to be nil. :( What am I missing here? This is what I've tried without success: (While the textview is firstResponder) 1.- When the text view contains no text: text: "", selectedRange : {0,0}, markedText: nil. [_textView setMarkedText:@"?" selectedRange:NSMakeRange(0, 1)]; Result: text : "", selectedRange: {0,0}, markedText: nil. (Nothing changed) 2.- When the text view contains text + some marked text: text : "AAA", selectedRange = {0,3}, marked text at the end : "??" then I do: [_textView setMarkedText:@"?" selectedRangeNSMakeRange(0,3)]; Result : text :"AAA", selectedRange: {0,3}, markedText: nil; (the marked text became nil) In both cases is like setMarkedText:selectedRange: would be setting the current marked text (if some) to nil. Any help would be highly appreciated :)
