  • How to convert model into url properly in asp.net MVC?

    From the SEO standpoint it is nice to see urls in format which explains what is located on a page Let's have a look on such situation (it is just example) We need to display page about some user and decided to have such url template for that page: /user/{UserId}/{UserCountry}/{UserLogin}. And create for this purpose such model public class UserUrlInfo{ public int UserId{get;set;} public string UserCountry{get;set;} public string UserLogin{get;set;} } I want to create controller method where I pass UserUrlInfo object but not all required fields. Classic controller method for url template shown above is following public ActionResult Index(int UserId, string UserCountry, string UserLogin){ return View(); } and we need to call it like that Html.ActionLink<UserController>(x=>Index(user.UserId, user.UserCountry, user.UserLogin), "See user page") I want to create such controller method public ActionResult Index(UserUrlInfo userInfo){ return View(); } and call it like that: Html.ActionLink<UserController>(x=>Index(user), "See user page") Actually I works when we add one more route and point it to the same controller method, so routing will be: /user/{userInfo} /user/{UserId}/{UserCountry}/{UserLogin} In this situation routing engine gets string method of our model (need to override it) and it works ALMOST always. But sometimes it fails and show url like /page/?userInfo=/US/John So my workaround does not always work properly. Does anybody know how to work with urls in such way?

  • ASP.NET mvc 2 Validation always shows errors on initial page load.

    I've searched around a lot, and honed this problem down to this case: I'm using the PRG pattern, pragmatically I'm using the same DTO for my post/get actions. It looks like when I have the dto with the data annotation attributes in the get action parameter list, the validation is always displaying errors, every time on initial page load. In some cases this could be desired behavior if you put asterisks in the error message, but how do I get rid of it? Thanks in advance.

  • Ajax Auto Complete in ASP.Net MVC project - How to display a an object's name but actually save it's

    I have implemented the Ajax Autocomplete feature in my application using a web service file that querys my database and it works great. One problem I am having is allowing the user to see the item's name, as that's what they are typing in the textbox, but when they select it, it saves the item's ID number instead of the actual name. I want it to behave much like a dropdown list, where I can specify what is seen and entered vs. what is actually saved in the database (in this case, the product ID instead of it's name.)   • Which JavaScript or ASP.NET Charting Component/Tool/Library Will Work For This?

Hi, An interaction designer employed by the client I am currently working for produced some mock-ups, and now it is my job to determine the best way of implementing the charts included therein. After looking at the options I am aware of and was able to find doing some simple Google searches, I have narrowed it down to using either ComponentArt, Dundas Charts or Infragistics, simply because from what I can see of their demos, they have certain features I believe I will need to get things done. Here are the pictures from the mock-ups - ideally I need one piece of software that will cover all of these: This chart seems to be simple enough. Notice the arbitrary spacing between the years - not yet sure if this will be a sticking-point for the client or not. I don't know that I have ever seen a chart like this one - it combines the previous chart with some additional data. Here is the same chart, only this time illustrating what happens when a user mouses-over or clicks on an annotation within the chart. They want the nice styling within the pop-up, so the pop-up needs to be something like an iframe or similar. Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated, I haven't used charting controls in years, so I am at a bit of a loss and the client wants an estimate soon. Thank you!

    I have a web form in SPARK which allow the editing of a Facility class that contains Rooms. When editing the Facility all the Rooms are listed for editing too. The form works fine for editing, but I would like to include a button "Add Room" that adds a new blank room below the existing ones. Any idea how this is accomplished? I would like add.mvc to create a new empty Room class and inject a new identical (but empty) control below the existing ones. Instead, it appears that the form is submitting by a post request. When I look at the generated HTML, I have this: <form action="/find/AdminMember/MemberList" method="post"> Search for in Screen Name and Email: <input id="keyword" name="keyword" type="text" value="" /> <button type=submit>Search</button> </form> Does anyone know why? This seems pretty simple and straighforward to me.

    I seem to be missing something obvious here, but cannot see what it is. My problem is that the closing form tag for BeginForm is not being added to my markup. I am looping through a collection and creating a form for each item, but the forms arent closing properly. Any suggestions please?   • C# Event Handlers automatically created by WinForms Designer

    Just moved from VB.NET to C#. In VB to connect and Event Handler to a Sub we use the Handles clause. From what it seems, this do not exist in C#. After creating a simple application with a button I realize that Window Forms Designer automatically created an EventHandler to my button1_Click function (after I double clicked it), in Form1.Designer.cs with this code: this.button1.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.button1_Click); But, in VB, the WinForms Designer create the Handles clause in my class, in the function header. So, C# create the default EventHandler in designer file, while VB creates in main class with control resides. Is this correct? Am I missing something here?

I am displaying this data in a table on my View. For the Gender I want to display 'Male' or 'Female', how and where do I manipulate the 1's and 0's? Is it done in the repository where I fetch the data or in the View? For the Active column I want to show a checkBox that will AutoPostBack on selection change and update the Active filed in the Database. How is this done without Ajax or jQuery?

    With a customer web site we currently experiences performance problems. While analyzing the problem we found an unexpected amount of of 112 "Memory Hard Faults" per minute. Does anybody can interpret the meaning of this value? Does this happen, when memory swapping is necessary - so the root cause is not sufficient memory? Even if the CPU value seems high, it is not the main problem for the slow web site. Do you agree?

    I can not make NHibernate 2.1 work in machines without framework 3.X (basically, windows 2000 SP4, although it happens with XP too). NHibernate doc do not mention this. Maybe you can help?     The current way our application is written, involves creating a new connection and command object in every method that access our sqlite db. Considering we need it to run on a WM5 device, that is leading to hideous performance. Our plan is to use just one connection object per-thread but it's also occurred to us to use one global command object per-thread too. The benefit of this is it reduces the overhead on the garbage collector created by instantiating objects all over the place. I can't find any advice against doing this but wondered if anyone can answer definitively if this is a good or bad thing to do, and why?

    Here are the problems I am having with the control from the factory: no easy way to get the first visible date (yeah I could use day render, but at that point in the page cycle, I can't do what I need to, which is manipulate a collection in viewstate) changing the visibledate property in my code does not raise the visiblemonthchanged event. That just doesn't make any sense to me. Can someone suggest a free, improved calendar control?

  • How can I provide links to intranet files through ASP.net?

    Conditions: The files must be opened outside of the window that the link to them is in. I have tried href, but when I give it an intranet link it only opens correctly if I leave out target="_blank"; if I put that in, the new window that opens doesn't receive the full link if there is a pound sign in the filepath... a direct link to the intranet address \a\b\c#c.txt would be fine with me; there is no concern about security, but I can't seem to get that to happen in a new window. It seems like this is happening when I don't create a new window, but I can't utilize the same window to open the links. Any ideas?
