  I'm wondering if it's possible to find all points by longitude and latitude within X radius of one point? So, if I provide a latitude/longitude of -76.0000, 38.0000, is it possible to simply find all the possible coordinates within (for example) a 10 mile radius of that? I know that there's a way to calculate the distance between two points, which is why I'm not clear as to whether this is possible... Because, it seems like you need to know the center coordinates (-76 and 38 in this case) as well as the coordinates of every other point in order to determine whether it falls within the specified radius... Is that right?

• MySQL top count({column}) with a limit

  I have a table with an ip address column. I would like to find the top five addresses which are listed. Right now I'm planning it out the following: Select all distinct ip addresses Loop through them all saying count(id) where IP='{ip}' and storing the count List the top five counts. Downsides include what if I have 500 ip addresses. That's 500 queries I have to run to figure out what are the top five. I'd like to build a query like so select ip from table where 1 order by count({distinct ip}) asc limit 5

• Best way to handle multiple getView calls from inside an Adapter

  I have a ListView with custom ArrayAdapter. Each of the row in this ListView has an icon and some text. These icons are downloaded in background,cached and then using a callback, substituted in their respective ImageViews. The logic to get a thumbnail from cache or download is triggered every time getView() runs. Now, according to Romain Guy: "there is absolutely no guarantee on the order in which getView() will be called nor how many times." I have seen this happen, for a row of size two getView() was being called six times! How do I change my code to avoid duplicate thumbnail-fetch-requests and also handle view recycling? Thanks.

We can do the same using methods. Whats special thing we got using named_scope.

• Multiple Default Routes in ASP.NET MVC to different Default Actions

  I have multiple controllers with different actions (no "Index" actions). The actions I consider "default" actions, are named differently. I want to create default routes for their names and have the first available action (from my list of default actions) executed if only the controller name is provided in the route. So, for example, I have the following actions which I want to consider default and want checked for their existence in a controller in this order: List() Draw() ViewSingle() The routing should somehow search for /{controller} and then take the first available action from the list above as default action, e.g.: /ControllerA -> ControllerA.List() /ControllerB -> ControllerB.Draw() /ControllerC -> ControllerC.ViewSingle() /ControllerD -> ControllerD.Draw() /ControllerE -> ControllerE.List() Is this possible? • Database of common translated phrases for localization?

  I'd like to localize my app into a few other languages, all of which I can barely order a drink in. Does anyone know of an online resource for translations of common software menu options, messages, etc. into other languages? Given the number of developers (both OSS and closed-source) that deal with localization, and the overlap of resource strings between, it seems like a pretty obvious fit for a wiki or open source package, but I can't seem to find anything like this. I could try to mine the Windows resource files or dig around in resource strings in robust OSS apps like Firefox, but I suspect I'm not the first person to think of this and surely there is a site that I'm just not finding yet. Update: since nothing exists like this that I could find, I started a feeble attempt at an open-source string library. • How to prepare for a Java test?

  Ok so in two days I have a test for my dream job (well it's an internship, but still!) and for quite some time now I've been reading the SCJP Guide book in order to prepare myself. BUT seeing how slow my reading speed is I guess finding a website with some "java essentials" or "standard java test questions" and going through it in those 2 days would be a better idea. Don't misunderstand me, I do have java experience and it's "only" an internship, but we all know how programming tests look like and how tricky they can be. So are there any online resources you could recommend me? I know 2 days is not much, but well I was informed bout the test 1-2days ago.

• PHP array taking up too much memory

  I have a multidimensional array. The array itself is fine. My problem is that the script takes up monster amounts of memory, and since I'm running this on my MAMP install on my iBook G4, my computer freezes up. " if found sentence should not break like abbreviation U.K or Mr. For this again there are two parts before breaking after breaking for example if the rule is <rule break="no"> <beforebreak>\s*[0-9]+\.</beforebreak> <afterbreak>\s</afterbreak> </rule> Which says if the pattern "\s*[0-9]+.\s" is found the segment should not break. how do I implement using javascript, my be split function is not enough ?

• iPhone link to map directions using string "current location" not lat and lng for saddr

  I know there are numerous questions about how to construct a sharedApplication link to the maps app specifying the start and end address with coordinates. I've got that working no problem. Has anyone found a way to link with a source address generically specified as "current location". I ask because the scenario I'm working on having Core Location or a UIMapView would only be necessary in order to determine the user location prior to handing off to the map app where the user locating would seem to just happen again. I've tried throwing UTF8'd "Current Location" and "[Current Location]" into the saddr parameter which amusingly starts from Current Montana. I've also tried simply excluding the saddr param. I know this is often tread territory but this particular situation wasn't covered by anything I found searching here or on mapki. Before I add the core location code I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a more limited way to tackle this. Thanks

  I want the user to be able to type in a fraction like: 1/2 2 1/4 3 And convert it into its corresponding decimal, to be saved in MySQL, that way I can order by it and do other comparisons to it. But I need to be able to convert the decimal back to a fraction when showing to the user so basically i need a function that will convert fraction string to decimal: fraction_to_decimal("2 1/4");// return 2.25 and a function that can convert a decimal to a faction string: decimal_to_fraction(.5); // return "1/2" How can I do this? • How do laziness and I/O work together in Haskell?

  I'm trying to get a deeper understanding of laziness in Haskell. I was imagining the following snippet today: data Image = Image { name :: String, pixels :: String } image :: String -> IO Image image path = Image path <$> readFile path The appeal here is that I could simply create an Image instance and pass it around; if I need the image data it would be read lazily - if not, the time and memory cost of reading the file would be avoided: main = do image <- image "file" putStrLn $ length $ pixels image But is that how it actually works? How is laziness compatible with IO? Will readFile be called regardless of whether I access pixels image or will the runtime leave that thunk unevaluated if I never refer to it? If the image is indeed read lazily, then isn't it possible I/O actions could occur out of order? For example, what if immediately after calling image I delete the file? Now the putStrLn call will find nothing when it tries to read.

I could install httperf by the command sudo apt-get install httperf I thought I should be installing autobench in the same way using apt-get. But the package was not found. • MYSQL - Selecting a specific date range to get "current" popular screensavers.

  Let's say I have a screensaver website. I want to display the CURRENT top 100 screensavers on the front page of the website. What I mean is, "RECENT" top 100 screensavers. What would be an example query to do this? My current one is: SELECT * FROM tbl_screensavers WHERE WEEK(tbl_screensavers.DateAdded) = WEEK('".date("Y-m-d H:i:s",strtotime("-1 week"))."') ORDER BY tbl_screensavers.ViewsCount, tbl_screensavers.DateAdded This will select the most viewed ("tbl_screensavers.ViewsCount") screensavers that were added ("tbl_screensavers.DateAdded") in the last week. However, in some cases there are no screensavers, or less than 100 screensavers, submitted in that week. So, how can I perform a query which would select "RECENT" top 100 screensavers? Hopefully you have an idea of what I'm try to accomplish when I say "RECENT" or "CURRENT" top screensavers. -- aka. the most viewed, recently - not the most viewed, all-time.

• Sqlite: Selecting records spread over total records

  I have a sql / sqlite question. I need to write a query that select some values from a sqlite database table. I always want the maximal returned records to be 20. If the total selected records are more than 20 I need to select 20 records that are spread over the total records. It is also important that I always select the first and last value from the table when sorted on the date. I know how to accomplish this in code but it would be perfect to have a sqlite query that can do the same. The query Im using now is really simple and looks like this: "SELECT value,date,valueid FROM tblvalue WHERE tblvalue.deleted=0 ORDER BY DATE(date)" Hope I explained what I need, thanks for your help!

• JTable filled with database data is not being updated when columns are reordered.

  I have a JTable filled with data of a table of my database (so I used ResultSetTableModel) and using TableRowSorter to sort the rows, as I click in one column of the JTable. The data is displayed in the jTable without problems; But when I sort the JTable by some column table (for example, sorting it by the primary key value), and edit some cell from the sorted jTable, the value changed is the old cell that were in that position before the ordenation of the column. For example: Suppose I have a table with 2 columns - name and age. My table has the following data: c 1 b 2 a 3 when I order i by name in the JTable, it becomes like this a 3 b 2 c 1 if I edit the value "1", after the edition, the table becomes like this a 1 b 2 c 1 It seems that the positions are not being updated in the JTable, and the values are edited considering their original positions.

• Django QuerySet filter + order_by + limit

  So I have a Django app that processes test results, and I'm trying to find the median score for a certain assessment. I would think that this would work: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) median_exam = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score')[median:1] median_score = median_exam.score But it always returns an empty list. I can get the result I want with this: e = Exam.objects.all() total = e.count() median = int(round(total / 2)) exams = Exam.objects.filter(assessment=assessment.id).order_by('score') median_score = median_exam[median].score I would just prefer not to have to query the entire set of exams. I thought about just writing a raw MySQL query that looks something like: SELECT score FROM assess_exam WHERE assessment_id = 5 ORDER BY score LIMIT 690,1 But if possible, I'd like to stay within Django's ORM. Mostly, it's just bothering me that I can't seem to use order_by with a filter and a limit. Any ideas?

  Hi, I am looking for a simple way (UDF?) to establish the similarity between strings. The SOUNDEX and DIFFERENCE function do not seem to do the job. Similarity should be based on number of characters in common (order matters). For example: Spiruroidea sp. AM-2008 and Spiruroidea gen. sp. AM-2008 should be recognised as similar.   Hi, Is it possible to use HQL/ICritera to produce a query with the same semantics as the following SQL query: select table1.A, table2.B, count(*) from table1 left join (select table2.parent_id, table2.B from table2 where table2.C = 'Some value') as table2 on table2.parent_id = table1.id group by table1.A, table2.B order by table1.A In particular, what I'd like is to receive rows (that is, objects) from table1 that have no matching rows in table2. However, I only get the rows from table1 that have matches in table2. Is this the meaning of 'LEFT JOIN' in HQL? And if so, how can I get it to join on a subquery? Tnx.

However what I really want is to execute a file that is installed by a merge module. How do I do this? I can make changes in the merge module, if this helps things.

  I am using Unity with MVC and NHibernate. Unfortunately, our UnitOfWork resides in a different .dll and it doesn't have a default empty .ctor. How I can setup the RegisterType for this Interface in order to pass the two parameters retreived from the web.config? Is it possible?
