    what is a best practice in cases such as this one: try { // do something } catch (SpecificException ex) { Response.Redirect("~/InformUserAboutAn/InternalException/"); } the warning i get is that ex is never used. however all i need here is to inform the user, so i don't have a need for it. do i just do: try { // do something } catch { Response.Redirect("~/InformUserAboutAn/InternalException/"); } somehow i don't like that, seems strange!!? any tips? best practices? what would be the way to handle this. thnx

  • Django Forms: TimeField Validation

    I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. I have a Django form with a TimeField on it. I want to be able to allow times like "10:30AM", but I cannot get it to accept that input format or to use the "%P" format (which has a note attached saying it's a "Proprietary extension", but doesn't say where it comes from). Here's the gist of my form code: calendar_widget = forms.widgets.DateInput(attrs={'class': 'date-pick'}, format='%m/%d/%Y') time_widget = forms.widgets.TimeInput(attrs={'class': 'time-pick'}) valid_time_formats = ['%P', '%H:%M%A', '%H:%M %A', '%H:%M%a', '%H:%M %a'] class EventForm(forms.ModelForm): start_date = forms.DateField(widget=calendar_widget) start_time = forms.TimeField(required=False, widget=time_widget, help_text='ex: 10:30AM', input_formats=valid_time_formats) end_date = forms.DateField(required=False, widget=calendar_widget) end_time = forms.TimeField(required=False, widget=time_widget, help_text='ex: 10:30AM', input_formats=valid_time_formats) description = forms.CharField(widget=forms.Textarea) Any time I submit "10:30AM", I get a validation error. The underlying model has two fields, event_start and event_end, no time fields, so I don't think the problem is in there. What stupid thing am I missing?

  • Event is causing an error, but I can't catch the exception

    A developer has created a custom control in ASP.NET using VB.NET. The custom control uses a repeater. In certain scenarios, the rpt_ItemDataBound event is encountering a data error. My goal is rather than having the user see the yellow screen of death, give the user a friendlier error explaining exactly what the data error is. I figured I would be able to use a Try/Catch block as shown below throw the exception, however, it appears that the event has nowhere to be thrown to and stops executing at the "End Try" line. Any ideas how I can capture the exception in this ASCX control so I can report it to the user?

    I've inherited some C# code that contains about a thousand lines of source that I need to modify, transforming it from this: newDataRow["to_dir"] = comboBox108.Text; To this: assetAttributes.Add("to_dir", comboBox108.Text); The lines occur in various places throughout the application in groups of 40 or 50. Modifying each line by hand in Visual Studio 2008 can be done but it's labor intensive and prone to errors. Is there a Windows utility out there that will let me cut and paste groups of code into it and then run some sort of reg-ex expression to transform the individual lines one-by-one? I'd also be willing to use some sort of VS 2008 add-in that performed the same set of reg-ex operations against a selection of code. Thanks in advance.

One way means writing try/catches in all the action methods even when there is nothing to be done to recover from the error. I'm facing a problem in mapping the Objects from DAO To DTO, No problem in the simple objects.     Hello, is it possible, in Eclipse, to mark certain lines with Shortcuts and be able to quickly jump to those lines? Example: Let's say I have maintenanceHeavyMethod() at line 120 in my class, gameLoop() at line 800 and some listener at line 1460. I'd like to f.ex. press CTRL-SHIFT-1, 2, 3 etc. to mark those positions, and then use f.ex. CTRL-1, 2, 3 to immediately jump to them. I don't like split-screens etc, but I need to jump around when writing. Is there such a feature? I'm using latest Eclipse to write Java-programs.

    I am trying to create a method in which I can exequte mysql UPDATE, DELETE or INSERT query. The method must work when with an INSERT I ask or do not ask the last_insert_id().
