• How can I choose a Webapp UI Design/dev collaborative tool?

  I am working with a team that's building a webapp for internal use in an enterprise. It's basically a workflow app at heart, where there's a single "request". Each request flows through various stages, and at each stage, there's a person or role that is responsible for moving the request to the next stage. "Moving" the request to the next stage might involve adding more data, validating things, gathering input from some external source and correlating it to the data in the request, and so on. The workflow engine has been selected. The UI for the various roles and stakeholders is being designed. We have a distributed group of stakeholders. I'd like to employ a collaborative design/dev effort, where devs can produce and stand-up mockups or even working prototypes, then solicit feedback on those things. In a centralized team this could be done via design review meetings, with everyone gathered round a screen projector. That just is not going to work for us. So what I'd like is an app that can help with this. Any recommendations on apps or how to choose?

• Photoshop alternative with same keyboard shorcuts

  tldr; Is there a program with the same keyboard shortcuts and/or user interface as PS. I know the "photoshop alternative" question has been asked so many times, but I feel this variant is worth the time to ask. I am a web designer and have been using PS daily on a windows or mac machine for about 10 years, but I do most of my development in linux. The only thing that has been keeping me from the full switch to linux is PS. I have tried many alternatives, including GIMP, but I feel the barrier to entry is too high for one reason and one reason only, the keyboard shortcuts. Over the years I have become very adept and quick in the use of PS because of keyboard shortcuts and muscle memory. I realize that many shortcuts can be customized, but many actions are just too different from PS. So my question is what programs are out there that are the closest to PS in keyboard shortcuts and interface. I don't care if I have to do a bunch of customization to get it as close as possible, but I just can't take too much time to learn a completely new workflow. Of course I realize that any software will take time and effort, I just want to make that time/effort as minimal as possible. Thanks in advance for your responses. edit I should tell you the most important features and workflow I use on a daily basis are, Smart objects, linked documents, save for web and devises.

  I am trying to get my URLs in files/id format. I am guessing I should have two Index methods in my controller, one with a parameter and one with not. But I get this error message in browser below.   I want to create Ext.tree.TreePanel component and periodically load content from the external URl. • Asynchronous Html.ImageGetter for setting multiple images in a TextView

  I'm writing an application that takes HTML pages and parses them to display on the screen. Specifically, this application pulls HTML from a message board and lists posts made by users. The problem is that a lot of the content in posts are pictures in <img> tags, so I need to write a Html.ImageGetter to handle the downloading of the images. My textView.setText() method will look like this: myTextView.setText(Html.fromHtml(myText, new ImageGetter() { @Override public Drawable getDrawable(String source) { Drawable d; // Need to async download image here return d; } }, null)); Doing this synchronously is trivial, but is there a suggested way to do this asynchronously so that it doesn't lock up my UI thread? I would also like to eventually build in caching of these images, but I imagine that would be pretty simple once the async downloading was there.

• Extjs: Tree, Selecting node after creating the tree

  I have a simple TreePanel. I would like to select a particular node upon loading it. The nodes are from a remote file (json). The tree is loading as expected. However, the node is not being selected. Firebug shows node as undefined. This perhaps because of the async property. But, I an unable to configure this other wise, or specify the node be selected. Any suggestions welcomed, and thank you.   Hello Experts, Scenario : I am working on LOB application, as in silverlight every call to service is Async so automatically UI is not blocked when the request is processed at server side. Silverlight also supports threading as per my understanding if you are developing LOB application threads are most useful when you need to do some IO operation but as i am not using OOB application it is not possible to access client resource and for all server request it is by default Async. In above scenario is there any usage of Threading or can anyone provide some good example where by using threading we can improve performance. I have tried to search a lot on this topic but everywhere i have identified some simple threading example from which it is very difficult to understand the real benefit. Thanks for help

  Hello! I have an interesting problem when using partial page update in asp.net with scriptmanager and a update panel. My scenario looks like this: I'm using the tab control from the ajax toolkit. I also implemented this control using lazy loading, so that when the page is loaded only the current tab gets loaded all the other tabs don't get rendered, because Im using an UpdatePanel (on a .ascx control) on each of these tabs and when a tab gets selected the updatepanel makes a async postback to load the content for a selected tab. On one of my tabs Im using a combobox control from obout.com, and it doesn't work. Now I know why it doesn't work. It doesn't work because the control is shown via a partial page refresh, but to correctly display the control it has to do some "magic" that is - register some .css and .js includes on the page (in the head I guess)....but because I load this control via async page refresh...it can't do these stuff. What kind of workarround do you suggest? Thanks!

• How to preselect nodes using jsTree jQuery plug-in

  I am using the jsTree jQuery plug-in with its "Checkbox" plug-in and using an async http request to lazy-load each level of the tree. All works great, except that I cannot get the tree to pre-select certain nodes after the first level. I am using the "selected" attribute to provide an array of ID's to preselect. ID's in the top level of the tree are correctly pre-selected. However, ID's in lower levels of the tree are not selected when the level loads. Am I missing something? • NSURLConnection performance

  Hi all, I'm using NSURLConnection for downloading some images in my app currently. Before implementing via this, I implemented it by NSData(dataWithContentOfURL) in NSThread. But I wanted to cancel during downloading images, So I changed it to NSURLConnection. But It happens other problem. Performance was very low after changing. For example, There is at least 5seconds for downloading images at NSThread(NSData async) But, There is more than 2 or 3 times than it at NSURLConnection(async) !! Can I enhance performance ?? How?? (* sorry about my question with NSData(dataWithContentOfFile). correct question is dataWithContentOfURL)

  In this post, asynchronous .js file loading syntax, someone said, "If the async attribute is present, then the script will be executed asynchronously, as soon as it is available." • jQuery ajax callback function not working

  I am using Symfony PHP Framework to create web application, and using symfony Forms to create the HTML forms. I am trying to load the data in Select element using Ajax, for that i am using jQuery's Ajax functions. It is working fine as it sends and gets the response correctly(status as 200), but not calling the Callback function in some browsers such as IE,Chrome and Safari.It works fine in Firefox and Opera. the Code that is not working, $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'form/ajax', async: true, cache: false, dataType : 'json', data: 'id='+ids, success: function(jsonData){ alert("ok go"); } }); the alert "OK Go" is not called in Chrome,IE and Safari But $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'form/ajax', async: true, cache: false, dataType : 'json', data: 'id='+ids, success: alert("ok go"); }); this works, but as per the project i want the JSON data to load in my Select element. is there any thing wrong in the return JSON format or the bug in the jQuery Ajax functions, please help.

However the $scope.$on(...) runs before the bounds have been set so the 'west' : $scope.bounds.southWest.lng, returns an error with an undefined variable. What I want to do is to wait the bounds (southWest and northEast) to have been set and then run the Dajaxice.async.hello(...). So I need something like "wait until bounds are set".

• Passing methods/functions as args in Objective C

  Hello, I am new to Objective C and I am trying to implement an async library which works with callbacks. I need to figure out a way to pass callback methods as args to my async methods so that the callback can be invoked when the task is finished. What is the best way to achieve this in Objective C? In Python, for example I could easily pass a function, but in Objective C it seems selectors are the way to go(?). Can anyone point me to an example from where I can get some ideas? Specifically, I'm trying to understand in which scenario to use each one by listing how each works. I'm a little fuzzy on UpdatePanel vs CallBack (with ViewState): I know UpdatePanel always returns HTML while CallBack can return JSON. Any other major differences? ...and CallBack (without ViewState) vs WebMethod. CallBack goes through most of the Page lifecycle, WebMethod doesn't. Any other major differences? • Asynchronous vs Synchronous vs Threading in an iPhone App

  I'm in the design stage for an app which will utilize a REST web service and sort of have a dilemma in as far as using asynchronous vs synchronous vs threading. Here's the scenario. Say you have three options to drill down into, each one having its own REST-based resource. I can either lazily load each one with a synchronous request, but that'll block the UI and prevent the user from hitting a back navigation button while data is retrieved. This case applies almost anywhere except for when your application requires a login screen. I can't see any reason to use synchronous HTTP requests vs asynchronous because of that reason alone. The only time it makes sense is to have a worker thread make your synchronous request, and notify the main thread when the request is done. This will prevent the block. The question then is bench marking your code and seeing which has more overhead, a threaded synchronous request or an asynchronous request. The problem with asynchronous requests is you need to either setup a smart notification or delegate system as you can have multiple requests for multiple resources happening at any given time. The other problem with them is if I have a class, say a singleton which is handling all of my data, I can't use asynchronous requests in a getter method. Meaning the following won't go: - (NSArray *)users { if(users == nil) users = do_async_request // NO GOOD return users; } whereas the following: - (NSArray *)users { if(users == nil) users == do_sync_request // OK. return users; } You also might have priority. What I mean by priority is if you look at Apple's Mail application on the iPhone, you'll notice they first suck down your entire POP/IMAP tree before making a second request to retrieve the first 2 lines (the default) of your message. I suppose my question to you experts is this. When are you using asynchronous, synchronous, threads -- and when are you using either async/sync in a thread? What kind of delegation system do you have setup to know what to do when a async request completes? Are you prioritizing your async requests? There's a gamut of solutions to this all too common problem. It's simple to hack something out. The problem is, I don't want to hack and I want to have something that's simple and easy to maintain.

• Problem with jQuery.ajax with 'delete' method in ie

  I have a page where the user can edit various content using buttons and selects that trigger ajax calls. In particular, one action causes a url to be called remotely, with some data and a 'put' request, which (as i'm using a restful rails backend) triggers my update action. I also have a delete button which calls the same url but with a 'delete' request. The 'update' ajax call works in all browsers but the 'delete' one doesn't work in IE. So, it fails before it even makes the call. I can't work out why - the 'msg' i get back from the error block is blank. Any ideas anyone? Is this a known problem? I've tested it in ie6 and ie8 and it doesn't work in either. thanks - max EDIT - the solution - thanks to Nick Craver for pointing me in the right direction. Rails (and maybe other frameworks?) has a subterfuge for the unsupported put and delete requests: a post request with the parameter "_method" (note the underscore) set to 'put' or 'delete' will be treated as if the actual request type was that string. So, in my case, i made this change - note the 'data' option': jQuery.ajax({ async:true, data: {"_method":"delete"}, dataType:'script', type:'post', url:"/quizzes/"+quizId+"/quiz_questions/"+quizQuestionId, success: function(msg){ alert("success"); initializeQuizQuestions(); setSelectStatus(quizQuestionId, true); jQuery("tr[id*='quiz_question_"+quizQuestionId+"']").removeClass('selected'); }, error: function(msg){ alert("error:" + msg); } }); } Rails will now treat this as if it were a delete request, preserving the REST system. The reason my PUT example worked was just because in this particular case IE was happy to send a PUT request, but it officially does not support them so it's best to do this for PUT requests as well as DELETE requests.

• aio_write on linux with rtkaio is sometimes long

  I'm using async io on linux with rtkaio library. In my tests everything works perfectly, but, in my real application i see that aio_write which is supposed to return very fast, is very slow. It can take more than 100 milis to write a 128KB to a O_DIRECT padded file. Both my test and the application use same I/O size, i check on the same file system (GFS). I added counting and i see that there are about 50% of async io operations that are short (shorter then 2 milis) and 50% that are long (longer than 2 milis). I also checked that the test and the application both use the same rtkaio library. I'm pretty lost, anyone any ideas where should i look?
