  • How to suppress a MongoDDException when proxy can't find a referenced document

    We are using Symfony2/DoctrineOdm/MongoDB and when we do: if ($doc.referenceOne != null) { ... } and the $doc.referenceOne contains a MongoDbRef that point to a deleted/lost document, the Doctrine Proxy object raises a MongoDBException. It is possible to tell the Proxy return null instead of raising the exception? Detailed Explanation: Our document: class User { /* @MongoDB\ReferenceOne( ... ) */ private $photo; } If $photo contains a MongoDbRef, but the document is lost/deleted, when we do if ($user.photo) { ... } doctrine will raise a MongoDBException: The "Proxies\DocumentPhotoProxy" document with identifier "4fd8b3ef732bafab7b000000" could not be found We want to suppress the exception since our application can handle null values in that variable. (we could simply log that error, while the exception propagate to a 500 page and disrupt our service)

  • Error when connecting to shared Windows Printers

    I'm replacing our Windows 2003 print server with one running on Windows 2008 R2. I have connected and configured all of our printers and can successfully print to them from the server itself. All of the printers are shared and user's have permission to print on all of them. Whenever one of our clients attempts to connect through the shares they receive the following error message: Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000709). Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network. No messages are generated on the client Event Log nor is anything generated on the server. I have reinstalled the drivers as suggested by a few forum posts I came across and it didn't solve the issue. There are twelve different printer drivers and they are all experiencing this issue so I believe it is unrelated to the driver. I have disabled UAC on both the client and server since that has caused so many headaches before, but it too did not solve this problem. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

This JRE (version 7u55) will expire with the release of the next critical patch update scheduled for July 15, 2014. For example, is there a way to add tags to projects, to make them more accessible? What's a good data structure to dump all my files on an internet server for easy access? Presently, my work folder is setup as follows: (1)/work/ (2)/projects (3)/project_a (4)/final (which includes all final documents) (5)/contracts (5)/rfp_rfq (5)/change_orders (5)/communications (logs all emails, faxes, and meeting notes and minutes) (5)/financial (6)/paid (6)/unpaid (5)/reports (4)/old (include all documents that didn't make it into the project_a/final/ (3)/project_b (4) ... same as above ... (2)/references (3)/technical_references (3)/gov_regulations (3)/data_sources (3)/books (3)/topic_based (each area of my expertise has a folder with references in them) (2)/business_contacts (3)/contacts.xls (file contains all my contacts) (2)/banking (3)/banking.xls (contains a list of all paid and unpaid invoices as well as some cool stats) (3)/quicken (to do my taxes and yada yada) (4)/year (2)/education (courses I've taken (3)/webinars (3)/seminars (3)/online_courses (2)/publications (includes the publications I've made (3)/publication_id We're mostly 5 people working together part-time on this thing. Since this is a very structured approach, I find it really difficult to remember what I've done on previous projects and go back and forth easily. What are your suggestions on improving my processes? I'm open to closed and open source software (as long as the price isn't too high). I also want to implement a system where I can save most of the projects online to increase collaboration and efficiency and reduce bandwidth especially on document editing. Imagine emailing a document back and forth 5-10 times a day.

  • Java JRE 1.6.0_65 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

    The latest Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_65 (a.k.a. JRE 6u65-b14) and later updates on the JRE 6 codeline are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 for Windows-based desktop clients. Effects of new support dates on Java upgrades for EBS environments Support dates for the E-Business Suite and Java have changed.  Please review the sections below for more details: What does this mean for Oracle E-Business Suite users? Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JRE 7 for Windows desktop clients? Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JDK 7 for EBS application tier servers? All JRE 6 and 7 releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline, and from JRE 7u10 and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 and JRE 7 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 and 7 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 or JRE 7 releases to your EBS users' desktops. What's new in in this Java release?Java 6 is now available only via My Oracle Support for E-Business Suite users.  You can find links to this release, including Release Notes, documentation, and the actual Java downloads here: All Java SE Downloads on MOS (Note 1439822.1) 32-bit and 64-bit versions certified This certification includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit JRE versions. 32-bit JREs are certified on: Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Service Pack 2 (SP2) Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) 64-bit JREs are certified only on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Worried about the 'mismanaged session cookie' issue? No need to worry -- it's fixed.  To recap: JRE releases 1.6.0_18 through 1.6.0_22 had issues with mismanaging session cookies that affected some users in some circumstances. The fix for those issues was first included in JRE 1.6.0_23. These fixes will carry forward and continue to be fixed in all future JRE releases.  In other words, if you wish to avoid the mismanaged session cookie issue, you should apply any release after JRE 1.6.0_22. Implications of Java 6 End of Public Updates for EBS Users The Support Roadmap for Oracle Java is published here: Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap The latest updates to that page (as of Sept. 19, 2012) state (emphasis added): Java SE 6 End of Public Updates Notice After February 2013, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 6 to its public download sites. Existing Java SE 6 downloads already posted as of February 2013 will remain accessible in the Java Archive on Oracle Technology Network. Developers and end-users are encouraged to update to more recent Java SE versions that remain available for public download. For enterprise customers, who need continued access to critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 6 or older versions, long term support is available through Oracle Java SE Support . What does this mean for Oracle E-Business Suite users? EBS users fall under the category of "enterprise users" above.  Java is an integral part of the Oracle E-Business Suite technology stack, so EBS users will continue to receive Java SE 6 updates from February 2013 to the end of Java SE 6 Extended Support in June 2017. In other words, nothing changes for EBS users after February 2013.  EBS users will continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for Java SE 6 until the end of Java SE 6 Extended Support in June 2017.  How can EBS customers obtain Java 6 updates after the public end-of-life? EBS customers can download Java 6 patches from My Oracle Support.  For a complete list of all Java SE patch numbers, see: All Java SE Downloads on MOS (Note 1439822.1) Will EBS users be forced to upgrade to JRE 7 for Windows desktop clients? This upgrade is highly recommended but remains optional while Java 6 is covered by Extended Support. Updates will be delivered via My Oracle Support, where you can continue to receive critical bug fixes and security fixes as well as general maintenance for JRE 6 desktop clients.  Java 6 is covered by Extended Support until June 2017.  All E-Business Suite customers must upgrade to JRE 7 by June 2017. Coexistence of JRE 6 and JRE 7 on Windows desktops The upgrade to JRE 7 is highly recommended for EBS users, but some users may need to run both JRE 6 and 7 on their Windows desktops for reasons unrelated to the E-Business Suite. Most EBS configurations with IE and Firefox use non-static versioning by default. JRE 7 will be invoked instead of JRE 6 if both are installed on a Windows desktop. For more details, see "Appendix B: Static vs. Non-static Versioning and Set Up Options" in Notes 290807.1 and 393931.1. Applying Updates to JRE 6 and JRE 7 to Windows desktops Auto-update will keep JRE 7 up-to-date for Windows users with JRE 7 installed. Auto-update will only keep JRE 7 up-to-date for Windows users with both JRE 6 and 7 installed.  JRE 6 users are strongly encouraged to apply the latest Critical Patch Updates as soon as possible after each release.   • PowerPoint: print slides - enlarge their size

    In PowerPoint (2007), it is possible to print multiple slides on a paper as a handout. However, there is quite a lot of whitespace in between them and around them. Is there another way to enlarge the slides (I'm using the "6 per page" option)? And I don't mean "Adjust to paper size" (or whatever that's called in English), because the difference is just minimal.

    When I try to print a web page in either IE or Firefox - it just crashes? Any ideas? Printer works with other applications fine - like Word etc. It's only browser related for some strange reason. I am running XP SP3 - the printer is a Canon Laser Shot LBP 1120

  • Take Two: Comparing JVMs on ARM/Linux

    Although the intent of the previous article, entitled Comparing JVMs on ARM/Linux, was to introduce and highlight the availability of the HotSpot server compiler (referred to as c2) for Java SE-Embedded ARM v7,  it seems, based on feedback, that everyone was more interested in the OpenJDK comparisons to Java SE-E.  In fact there were two main concerns: The fact that the previous article compared Java SE-E 7 against OpenJDK 6 might be construed as an unlevel playing field because version 7 is newer and therefore potentially more optimized. That the generic compiler settings chosen to build the OpenJDK implementations did not put those versions in a particularly favorable light. With those considerations in mind, we'll institute the following changes to this version of the benchmarking: In order to help alleviate an additional concern that there is some sort of benchmark bias, we'll use a different suite, called DaCapo.  Funded and supported by many prestigious organizations, DaCapo's aim is to benchmark real world applications.  Further information about DaCapo can be found at http://dacapobench.org. At the suggestion of Xerxes Ranby, who has been a great help through this entire exercise, a newer Linux distribution will be used to assure that the OpenJDK implementations were built with more optimal compiler settings.  The Linux distribution in this instance is Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. Having experienced difficulties getting Ubuntu 11.10 to run on the original D2Plug ARMv7 platform, for these benchmarks, we'll switch to an embedded system that has a supported Ubuntu 11.10 release.  That platform is the Freescale i.MX53 Quick Start Board.  It has an ARMv7 Coretex-A8 processor running at 1GHz with 1GB RAM. We'll limit comparisons to 4 JVM implementations: Java SE-E 7 Update 2 c1 compiler (default) Java SE-E 6 Update 30 (c1 compiler is the only option) OpenJDK 6 IcedTea6 1.11pre 6b23~pre11-0ubuntu1.11.10.2 CACAO build 1.1.0pre2 OpenJDK 6 IcedTea6 1.11pre 6b23~pre11-0ubuntu1.11.10.2 JamVM build-1.6.0-devel Certain OpenJDK implementations were eliminated from this round of testing for the simple reason that their performance was not competitive.  The Java SE 7u2 c2 compiler was also removed because although quite respectable, it did not perform as well as the c1 compilers.  Recall that c2 works optimally in long-lived situations.  Many of these benchmarks completed in a relatively short period of time.  To get a feel for where c2 shines, take a look at the first chart in this blog. The first chart that follows includes performance of all benchmark runs on all platforms.  Later on we'll look more at individual tests.  In all runs, smaller means faster.  The DaCapo aficionado may notice that only 10 of the 14 DaCapo tests for this version were executed.  The reason for this is that these 10 tests represent the only ones successfully completed by all 4 JVMs.  Only the Java SE-E 6u30 could successfully run all of the tests.  Both OpenJDK instances not only failed to complete certain tests, but also experienced VM aborts too. One of the first observations that can be made between Java SE-E 6 and 7 is that, for all intents and purposes, they are on par with regards to performance.  While it is a fact that successive Java SE releases add additional optimizations, it is also true that Java SE 7 introduces additional complexity to the Java platform thus balancing out any potential performance gains at this point.  We are still early into Java SE 7.  We would expect further performance enhancements for Java SE-E 7 in future updates. In comparing Java SE-E to OpenJDK performance, among both OpenJDK VMs, Cacao results are respectable in 4 of the 10 tests.  The charts that follow show the individual results of those four tests.  Both Java SE-E versions do win every test and outperform Cacao in the range of 9% to 55%. For the remaining 6 tests, Java SE-E significantly outperforms Cacao in the range of 114% to 311% So it looks like OpenJDK results are mixed for this round of benchmarks.  In some cases, performance looks to have improved.  But in a majority of instances, OpenJDK still lags behind Java SE-Embedded considerably. Time to put on my asbestos suit.  Let the flames begin...

  • Workflow: Deploy Operating Systems

    The Deploy Operating Systems workflow is a workflow document that we added recently. It shows you how to get operating systems up and running in your environment. It's mostly linear, but it's a bit more complicated than some of the others. It's built around a pair of images. In both images, the left side shows the prerequisites for the whole process. Before you can deploy operating systems, you have to have Ops Center fully installed, with libraries set up and hardware already discovered. Once you've done that preparation, the first image walks you through all of the OS deployment steps. First you discover existing operating systems, then you provision Oracle Solaris 10 or Oracle Solaris 11. If you're not planning on using virtualization, then your deployment is done, and you're directed to the operate workflows. If you are interested in virtualization, though, you go on to the second image: The second image walks you through deploying virtualization, sending you to the Deploying Oracle Solaris 10 Zones, Deploying Oracle Solaris 11 Zones, or Deploying Oracle VM Server for SPARC workflows, depending on what kind of virtualization you're planning on using. Once you've done that, you're ready to go on to the operation workflows.
