  • Adding Street View controls (the two icons just above the +) to a Google Map (v3)

    - by AlexV
It's probably something really simple, but I can't find it in the docs and I can't find a map with it to check it's source... I use version 3 of the API. I guess it's an something to add in myOptions? var latlng = new google.maps.LatLng(-34.397, 150.644); var myOptions = { zoom: 8, center: latlng, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP } map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map_canvas'), myOptions); Currently I only have dragging controls and the zoom pane controls. I would like to have the two Street View controls icons too. If you want full source, I'm using this example as a base (how would you add Street View controls to this example?).

  • Google Map V3 Constants as Variables

    - by Beardy
In the example below I am trying to update the map type depending on the value of the selected option type. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to load the maptype into the google.maps.MapTypeId which is frustrating. I have tried it as a string as well as var gmapsMapType = google.maps.MapTypeId.++maptype; and I feel I am missing something here. HTML <select id="maptype" name="maptype"> <option selected="selected" value="RoadMap">Road Map</option> <option value="Satellite">Satellite</option> <option value="Hybrid">Hybrid</option> <option value="Terrain">Terrain</option> </select> JQUERY var maptype = $('#maptype>option:selected').val().toUpperCase(); var gmapsMapType = google.maps.MapTypeId.+maptype; map.setMapTypeId(gmapsMapType); Help is appreciated.

  • Feedly "Login with Google" system

    - by AR
I'm trying to figure out how Feedly does their login with Google link. Based on the redirect URL it passes I'd think it was a google service, but at the same time, the login page says it's not associated "Note: Google is not affiliated with feedly. Your password will not be shared with the feedly service". Anyone know what exactly powers this? Is it Federated login with some special domain trickery allowing them to upload a site screenshot and description? Or is it something else.

  • Android Google Directions

    - by Georg
Some Questions about Android and Google Directions Service: Is there a native way on Android to use the Directions Service from Google or are there any nice Wrapper Frameworks? I would like to retrieve the time needed to get from A to B and maybe show the route in a table and/or map. As far as I know directions can only be retrieved for "walking" and "driving". Is there a way (maybe not from google) to get this Information also for public transports or "biking" ? Thx a lot for your help!

  • Google Chrome OS

    - by Piet
It’s about time someone took this initiative: Google Chrome OS I especially like the following: Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work. I recently had the ‘pleasure’ witnessing several 60+ yr old friends and family (all respect for everyone in their 2nd or 3rd youth) buying their first pc, taking their first steps using a pc and the net. Have you ever seen the gazillions of little ‘useful’ tools that are installed on a new standard Vista pc or laptop ? This is like learning to drive a new car and being placed in an airplane cockpit. And all the messages one gets about virus/security checks, fingerprint nog being enrolled, trial period expiring (because half those really useful tools come with a trial period), … If I was in their shoes, being confronted with this as a total newbie, I guess I’d just give up pretty soon. As a matter of fact, I actually gave up on Vista on my work-laptop, it was driving me crazy. Thank god I was allowed to install XP. I’m a Linux user at home, and Vista was such a frustrating experience that Windows XP actually felt like breath of fresh air. And what are those people using? Email, browsing…. and maybe writing a little letter now and then or storing their photo’s if they have a digital camera. Actually (side note), I get the impression that hearing about facebook is a major motivator for the digital newbies to finally take the plunge, buy a pc and get on-line. And OK, we’ve seen initiatives like this before, but Google is a brand everyone knows… unlike Ubuntu, Debain or Mandriva. Google = God. If I was Microsoft I’d be wetting my pants knowing Google was about to release their own OS, without a doubt fully optimized to use their own on-line office suit. On the other hand, the old adage ‘no one ever got fired for choosing Microsoft’ still holds a lot of truth. I hope I’ll be able to give it a big thumbs up if a would-be pc-user asks me what kind of pc/OS they should go for in the near future. On the other hand, if I’d do that, I’m pretty sure a couple of weeks later I’d get a call asking how to install this game or photo editing tool they got from one of their Windows using friends… or that nifty photo-printer they just bought. But then, I also get those questions now from newbie Windows users. It takes a couple of years before Newbie pc users understand that some things just don’t work and aren’t worth the time trying to fix them. I’d just wish they’d go back to the shop when something doesn’t work. You also don’t let you mechanic friend try to fix a problem with your brand new car. But that’s another story… Wait and see…

  • Implementing synchronous MediaTypeFormatters in ASP.NET Web API

    - by cibrax
One of main characteristics of MediaTypeFormatter’s in ASP.NET Web API is that they leverage the Task Parallel Library (TPL) for reading or writing an model into an stream. When you derive your class from the base class MediaTypeFormatter, you have to either implement the WriteToStreamAsync or ReadFromStreamAsync methods for writing or reading a model from a stream respectively. These two methods return a Task, which internally does all the serialization work, as it is illustrated bellow. public abstract class MediaTypeFormatter { public virtual Task WriteToStreamAsync(Type type, object value, Stream writeStream, HttpContent content, TransportContext transportContext); public virtual Task<object> ReadFromStreamAsync(Type type, Stream readStream, HttpContent content, IFormatterLogger formatterLogger); }   .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } However, most of the times, serialization is a safe operation that can be done synchronously. In fact, many of the serializer classes you will find in the .NET framework only provide sync methods. So the question is, how you can transform that synchronous work into a Task ?. Creating a new task using the method Task.Factory.StartNew for doing all the serialization work would be probably the typical answer. That would work, as a new task is going to be scheduled. However, that might involve some unnecessary context switches, which are out of our control and might be affect performance on server code specially.   If you take a look at the source code of the MediaTypeFormatters shipped as part of the framework, you will notice that they actually using another pattern, which uses a TaskCompletionSource class. public Task WriteToStreamAsync(Type type, object value, Stream writeStream, HttpContent content, TransportContext transportContext) {   var tsc = new TaskCompletionSource<AsyncVoid>(); tsc.SetResult(default(AsyncVoid));   //Do all the serialization work here synchronously   return tsc.Task; }   /// <summary> /// Used as the T in a "conversion" of a Task into a Task{T} /// </summary> private struct AsyncVoid { } .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } They are basically doing all the serialization work synchronously and using a TaskCompletionSource for returning a task already done. To conclude this post, this is another approach you might want to consider when using serializers that are not compatible with an async model. Update: Henrik Nielsen from the ASP.NET team pointed out the existence of a built-in media type formatter for writing sync formatters. BufferedMediaTypeFormatter http://t.co/FxOfeI5x

  • Google Authorship: can I display:none for link to profile?

    - by RubenGeert
I'd like to have my 'mugshot' in Google's SERPs but I couldn't care less about Google+. I don't really want to link my website to Google+ either. Can I use CSS display:none; on the link leading to my profile and still have authorship, which looks like <a href='https://plus.google.com/111823012258578917399?rel=author' rel='nofollow'>Google</a>? Will the nofollow attribute here spoil things? I don't want to lose 'link juice' on Google+ if I don't have to. Now Google should crawl only the HTML but I'm sure they'll figure out the link is not visible (perhaps it's technically even cloaking. Does anybody have experience with this situation? And do I really have to become (reasonably) active on Google+ in order for authorship to show? This answer suggests I do but I didn't read anything on that in Google's guidelines.

  • Issue with sitemap in GWT

    - by Anusha
I have an e-commerce website www.beyondtime.in, i have been constantly monitoring the google bot crawling on my website and my webmaster account. Lately, i have found two issues that i have not been able to understand and hence want your help. 1.) The Google Bots have been only crawling www.beyondtime.in/telecom.php this URL of my website, when the URL is not even valid. So, kindly help me understand what needs to be done to let Google crawl other pages of the website as well. 2.) The second question is about the Google Webmaster account, where i've submitted my sitmap with 227 URLs, but out of that only 156 have been indexed. Also none of the images of my website have been indexed by Google. So kindly help me with this as well. Thanks

  • Getting number of hits from Google API

    - by drRoflol
I've tried to find a way to do this, but without success. I'm looking for a way to find out how many hits a search gets, and I don't want to do this manually, or with regex searching trough the html code. Surely the Google APIs must have a simple way to do this. Does anyone know of one?

  • Limit for Google calendar SMS notification per day

    - by pit777
What is the limit for Google calendar SMS notification per day? How to detect I reached sms limit? Google write only this: http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=36589 You might have reached the limit for SMS notifications. There is a limit to the number of SMS notifications you can receive each day. This limit shouldn't affect most users, but it's something to keep in mind if you've scheduled a large number of events and are no longer receiving SMS notifications. If instead I use the default tabs functionality, writing out the code things work fine: <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="#tabs-1">Chart</a></li> </ul> <div id="tabs-1"> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load('visualization', '1', {'packages':['annotatedtimeline']}); google.setOnLoadCallback(drawChart); function drawChart() { var data = new google.visualization.DataTable(); data.addColumn('date', 'Date'); data.addColumn('number', 'cloudofinc.com'); data.addColumn('string', 'header'); data.addColumn('string', 'text') data.addColumn('number', 'All Clients'); data.addRows([ [new Date('May 12, 2010'), 2, '2 New Users', '', 3], [new Date('May 13, 2010'), 0, undefined, undefined, 0], [new Date('May 14, 2010'), 0, undefined, undefined, 0], ]); var chart = new google.visualization.AnnotatedTimeLine(document.getElementById('chart_users')); chart.draw(data, { displayAnnotations: false, fill: 10, thickness: 1 }); } </script> <div id='chart_users' style='width: 100%; height: 400px;'></div> </div> </div> But if I use the ajax method for jquery ui tab and point to the partial for the tab, it doesn't work completely. The page renders and once the chart loads, the browser window goes white. However, you can see the tab partial flash just before the chart appears to finish rendering (the chart never actually displays). I have verified that the partial is indeed loading properly without the chart. <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="ajax/tabs-1">Chart</a></li> </ul> </div>

  • Google and Mirror Websites

    - by Roberto Aloi
Which is the best way to manage a website with one or more mirrors so that: Google don't consider it as "dupicated content" The website is correctly indexed No inconsistencies or duplicated information are present in Google Analytics The Google webmaster guidelines in general are respected NOTE: I'm not sure if I should ask this question here or in ServerFault. It looks a bit in the middle between programming and server administration. Let me know if you think ServerFault represent a more appropriate place for this and I'll move it. Thanks.

  • Passing XML markers to Google Map

    - by djmadscribbler
I've been creating a V3 Google map based on this example from Mike Williams http://www.geocodezip.com/v3_MW_example_map3.html I've run into a bit of a problem though. If I have no parameters in my URL then I get the error "id is undefined idmarkers [id.toLowerCase()] = marker;" in Firebug and only one marker will show up. If I have a parameter (?id=105 for example) then all the sidebar links say 105 (or whatever the parameter in the URL was) instead of their respective label as listed in the XML file and a random infowindow will be opened instead of the window for the id in the URL. Here is my javascript: var map = null; var lastmarker = null; // ========== Read paramaters that have been passed in ========== // Before we go looking for the passed parameters, set some defaults // in case there are no parameters var id; var index = -1; // these set the initial center, zoom and maptype for the map // if it is not specified in the query string var lat = 42.194741; var lng = -121.700301; var zoom = 18; var maptype = google.maps.MapTypeId.HYBRID; function MapTypeId2UrlValue(maptype) { var urlValue = 'm'; switch (maptype) { case google.maps.MapTypeId.HYBRID: urlValue = 'h'; break; case google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE: urlValue = 'k'; break; case google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN: urlValue = 't'; break; default: case google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP: urlValue = 'm'; break; } return urlValue; } // If there are any parameters at eh end of the URL, they will be in location.search // looking something like "?marker=3" // skip the first character, we are not interested in the "?" var query = location.search.substring(1); // split the rest at each "&" character to give a list of "argname=value" pairs var pairs = query.split("&"); for (var i = 0; i < pairs.length; i++) { // break each pair at the first "=" to obtain the argname and value var pos = pairs[i].indexOf("="); var argname = pairs[i].substring(0, pos).toLowerCase(); var value = pairs[i].substring(pos + 1).toLowerCase(); // process each possible argname - use unescape() if theres any chance of spaces if (argname == "id") { id = unescape(value); } if (argname == "marker") { index = parseFloat(value); } if (argname == "lat") { lat = parseFloat(value); } if (argname == "lng") { lng = parseFloat(value); } if (argname == "zoom") { zoom = parseInt(value); } if (argname == "type") { // from the v3 documentation 8/24/2010 // HYBRID This map type displays a transparent layer of major streets on satellite images. // ROADMAP This map type displays a normal street map. // SATELLITE This map type displays satellite images. // TERRAIN This map type displays maps with physical features such as terrain and vegetation. if (value == "m") { maptype = google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP; } if (value == "k") { maptype = google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE; } if (value == "h") { maptype = google.maps.MapTypeId.HYBRID; } if (value == "t") { maptype = google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN; } } } // this variable will collect the html which will eventually be placed in the side_bar var side_bar_html = ""; // arrays to hold copies of the markers and html used by the side_bar // because the function closure trick doesnt work there var gmarkers = []; var idmarkers = []; // global "map" variable var map = null; // A function to create the marker and set up the event window function function createMarker(point, icon, label, html) { var contentString = html; var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ position: point, map: map, title: label, icon: icon, zIndex: Math.round(point.lat() * -100000) << 5 }); marker.id = id; marker.index = gmarkers.length; google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function () { lastmarker = new Object; lastmarker.id = marker.id; lastmarker.index = marker.index; infowindow.setContent(contentString); infowindow.open(map, marker); }); // save the info we need to use later for the side_bar gmarkers.push(marker); idmarkers[id.toLowerCase()] = marker; // add a line to the side_bar html side_bar_html += '<a href="javascript:myclick(' + (gmarkers.length - 1) + ')">' + id + '<\/a><br>'; } // This function picks up the click and opens the corresponding info window function myclick(i) { google.maps.event.trigger(gmarkers[i], "click"); } function makeLink() { var mapinfo = "lat=" + map.getCenter().lat().toFixed(6) + "&lng=" + map.getCenter().lng().toFixed(6) + "&zoom=" + map.getZoom() + "&type=" + MapTypeId2UrlValue(map.getMapTypeId()); if (lastmarker) { var a = "/about/map/default.aspx?id=" + lastmarker.id + "&" + mapinfo; var b = "/about/map/default.aspx?marker=" + lastmarker.index + "&" + mapinfo; } else { var a = "/about/map/default.aspx?" + mapinfo; var b = a; } document.getElementById("idlink").innerHTML = '<a href="' + a + '" id=url target=_new>- Link directly to this page by id</a> (id in xml file also entry &quot;name&quot; in sidebar menu)'; document.getElementById("indexlink").innerHTML = '<a href="' + b + '" id=url target=_new>- Link directly to this page by index</a> (position in gmarkers array)'; } function initialize() { // create the map var myOptions = { zoom: zoom, center: new google.maps.LatLng(lat, lng), mapTypeId: maptype, mapTypeControlOptions: { style: google.maps.MapTypeControlStyle.DROPDOWN_MENU }, navigationControl: true, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.HYBRID }; map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); var stylesarray = [ { featureType: "poi", elementType: "labels", stylers: [ { visibility: "off" } ] }, { featureType: "landscape.man_made", elementType: "labels", stylers: [ { visibility: "off" } ] } ]; var options = map.setOptions({ styles: stylesarray }); // Make the link the first time when the page opens makeLink(); // Make the link again whenever the map changes google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'maptypeid_changed', makeLink); for (var i = 0; i < markers.length; i++) { // obtain the attribues of each marker var lat = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lat")); var lng = parseFloat(markers[i].getAttribute("lng")); var point = new google.maps.LatLng(lat, lng); var html = markers[i].getAttribute("html"); var label = markers[i].getAttribute("label"); var icon = markers[i].getAttribute("icon"); // create the marker var marker = createMarker(point, icon, label, html); } // put the assembled side_bar_html contents into the side_bar div document.getElementById("side_bar").innerHTML = side_bar_html; // ========= If a parameter was passed, open the info window ========== if (id) { if (idmarkers[id]) { google.maps.event.trigger(idmarkers[id], "click"); } else { alert("id " + id + " does not match any marker"); } } if (index > -1) { if (index < gmarkers.length) { google.maps.event.trigger(gmarkers[index], "click"); } else { alert("marker " + index + " does not exist"); } } }); } var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow( { size: new google.maps.Size(150, 50) }); google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, "load", initialize); And here is an example of my XML formatting <marker lat="42.196175" lng="-121.699224" html="This is the information about 104" iconimage="/about/map/images/104.png" label="104" />

  • Google Analytics API - Tying Behavior to Specific Dates

    - by DavidS
I am using the API to understand the performance of Adwords ad campaigns. I need to know how to attribute metrics back to the date dimension. For instance, for a given date, if I have 20 clicks, 18 visits, and 3 goal completions, does it mean that: 1) All of these actions happened on the day in question and are otherwise independent (meaning that the 3 goals could have been for people that clicked any time in the past 30 days, not who clicked on that day) 2) The on-site actions are a subset of the click activity on that day (i.e. on that day, 20 people clicked, 18 registered a real visit, and 3 completed a goal) If it is scenario 2, does that mean there is a need to refresh old rows every day? Thanks!
