  What is the best way to create a custom UIView that I can consume in Interface Builder? Create a custom UIView in Interface Builder and inherit from UIView in a code file, then somehow use it in another UIView ala like a control. (How do I do this?) Create a custom UIView in Interface Builder and have a custom UIViewController wire it up. In my main ViewController, place the new view. Basically, I am trying to create a reusable display view and would like a quick way to change it across all my instances with minimal effort.

  I am working on a multilingual web application. I'm wondering how do i design the best user interface that the user can localize data for various languages? for instance, in making a page which its title is different in every lang, do i put a textbox for every one? it's not a suitable way to do(in case of 10 lang, the user has 10 textbox!!! too silly) what is your idea about this? Edit: i have no problem with globalization in my system. in fact, i'm looking for a good way for my interface design which user can enter his data to my forms in various langs. thanks in advance

• Saving Interface Builder Changes when building in Xcode

  I know many of you have experienced the same the scenario, where you are banging your head against the wall wondering what is wrong with your app only to find that you have forgotten to save your Interface Builder changes. Well, this never happens to me, because for some reason Xcode will prompt me to save any changes in Interface Builder whenever I build. A coworker and I are trying to figure out how to change this on his machine, with no success. I must have done something in the very early stages of my iphone development life to configure this. Does anyone know how to link IB with Xcode so that it will prompt to save changes to IB files during a build?

  I program mostly in scala and java, using scalatest in scala and junit for unit testing. I would like to apply the very same tests to several implementations of the same interface/trait. The idea is to verify that the interface contract is enforced and to check Liskov substitution principle. For instance, when testing implementations of lists, tests could include: An instance should be empty, if and only if and only if it has zero size. After calling clear, the size sould be zero. Adding an element in the middle of a list, will increment by one the index of rhs elements. etc. What are the best practices ?

• Outlook MAPI session exception when outlook interface is closed

  I'm developing a email sender that retrieve data from a database, build up a MailItem with the Outlook Interop and send it. My email sender is running by a windows service that is notified everytime there's some data to send. I'm logging on the MAPI session of Outlook without problem and everything seems to work. But... when someone open Outlook interface and then close, my service crash at the first attempt i call a SendAndReceive method, with an exception that report that the session is assigned to another thread. I'm googling around for hours and i'm listening to the application_quit event, raised by the interface closing, trying to logoff and logon again to the application...but i'm still falling in the same error. Where am i wrong?Any suggestion? Thank you in advance

• slsvcutil.exe Proxy and Interfaces

  Is it possible when using slsvcutil.exe to generate a proxy through the command line not to have the proxy file output the Interface in an Asynchronous fashion. For example, if I have a function "foo()" on the serverside in the Interface, when I generate the proxy using Slsvcutil.exe, it makes two functions in the interface definition in the proxy named "BeginFoo()" and "EndFoo()". All I want is "Foo()", I don't need the other two methods. Is this possible? I'm using the proxy with Monotouch which is why I need to use Slsvcutil.exe but don't need the Asynchronous methods. • Autotesting a network interface

  Hi All, I'm developing a software component responsible for testing if a network interface has conectivity with the internet. Think of it as the same test the XBOX360 does to inform the user if it's connected with the Live network (just as an example). So far I figured the autotest would run as this: 1) Test the physical network interface (if the cable is conected, has up/downlink, etc...) 2) Test the logical network (has IP address, has DNS, etc...) 3) Connects to the internet (can access google, for example) 4) ??? 5) Profit! (just kidding...) My question relates to step 3: How can I detect, correctly, if my software has connection with the internet ? Is there any fixed IP address to ping ? The problem is that I don't want to rely solely on google.com (or any other well-known address), as those can change in time, and my component will be embbeded on a mobile device, not easy to update. Any suggestions ?

  I'm reading about the State pattern. I have only just begun, so of course I begin by reading the entire Wikipedia article on it. I noticed that both of the examples in the article have some base abstract class or Java interface for a generic State's methods/functions. Then there are some states which inherit from the base and implement those methods/functions in different ways. Then there's a Context class which has a private member of type State and which, at any time, can be equal to an instance of one of the implementations. That context class also implements the same methods, and passes them onto the current state instance, and then has an additional method to change the state (or depending on design I understand the change of state could be a reaction to one of the implemented methods). Why doesn't this context class specifically "extend" or "implement" the generic State base class/interface?

  I created my own object, PKSurvey. In the interface of the View Controller I can define a pointer to it, then in a method I can alloc it and have an instance. How do I keep the instance beyond the method where it was allocated? I assign values in one method and want to be able to use those values in other methods.   I noted this (it's a java.awt.event class). public abstract class MouseAdapter implements MouseListener, MouseWheelListener, MouseMotionListener { .... } Then you are clearly forced to extend from this adapter public class MouseAdapterImpl extends MouseAdapter {} the class is abstract and implements no methods. Is this a strategy to combine different interfaces into a single "basically interface" ? I assume in java it's not possible to combine different interfaces into a single one without using this approach. In other words, it's not possible to do something like this in java public interface MouseAdapterIface extends MouseListener, MouseWheelListener, MouseMotionListener { } and then eventually public class MouseAdapterImpl implements MouseAdapterIface {} Is my understanding of the point correct ? what about C# ?

  Hi all, I'm currently working on developing a customizable website layout using jQuery, so I can drag, drop, add and remove blocks of content... much like the iGoogle interface. I have my blocks dragging and dropping working with 3 columns of content My question is to do with adding and removing blocks If I use hide(), I can simply hide and show the blocks. If I use remove, I would have to append the list of blocks to load in a new block into a column. I'm not sure which is the best approach to take. I'd be grateful for any advice on best practise, i.e. to hide() or remove() and any other advice on building this kind of interface. Thank, Sam.

  In Delphi you can pass class references around to compare the types of objects, and to instantiate them. Can you do the same with interface references being passed to a COM automation server? For example, you can define a method taking a GUID parameter using the type library editor: function ChildNodesOfType(NodeType: TGUID): IMBNode; safecall; In this function I would like to return automation types that support the interface specified by NodeType, e.g. if Supports(SomeNode, NodeType) then result := SomeNode; But the Supports call always fails, I tried passing in the Guids defined in the type library but none of the different types (Ixxx, Class_xxxx, IId_Ixxxx) seem to work.

  Hello. I'm new to Objective-C, but I am curious about something that I haven't really seen addressed anywhere else. Could anyone tell me what is the difference between a private variable that is declared at the @interface block versus a variable that is declared within the @implementation block outside of the class methods, i.e: @interface Someclass : NSObject { NSString *forExample; } @end vs. @implementation Someclass NSString *anotherExample; -(void)methodsAndSuch {} @end It seems both variables ( forExample, anotherExample ) are equally accessible throughout the class and I can't really find a difference in their behaviour. Is the second form also called an instance variable?

• Hiding an internal interface in a "friend" assembly

  I have two assemblies: A and B. A has InternalsVisibleTo set for B. I would like to make calls from A to get information that can only be known by a type defined in B in a way that keeps things internal. I can do this using an internal interface defined in A and implemented explicitly in B. Assembly A internal interface IHasData { Data GetData(); } class ClassA { DoSomething(IHasData); } Assembly B public abstract class ClassB : IHasData { Data IHasData.GetData() { /** do something internal **/ } } The trouble comes when someone references assembly B and derives from ClassB - they get the error: "The type 'AssemblyA.IHasData' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced" even though that type should be invisible to them. If I look at the public type definition I see what I expect - ClassB with no interfaces implemented. Why do I get this error? All of the implementation is in assembly B. I could use IHasData internally in ClassB and that wouldn't require assembly A to be referenced. Can someone help me understand what is going on?

When I run xjc on my schema I only get a ProjectType.java class, and when the xml actually consist of a single element, this won't parse, because there are no Project.java class/interface to match.

Part of what I want to be able to do with the app involves something along the lines of adding a menu option to the Drive menu interface. For instance, you could be editing a document in drive and browse to File-"My new fancy option." Does anyone know if this is possible? Somebody, who was working on my code before me, created some method and passed Runnable as parameter, more likely: void myMethod(Runnable runnable){ runnable.run(); } Then calling myMethod out of main looks like: public static void main(String args[]) { try { myMethod(new Runnable(){ public void run() { //do something...; }}); } catch (Throwable t) { } } So, to supply parameter to myMethod I need to instantiate object of (in this case anonymous) class implementing Runnable. My question is: is it necessary to use Runnable in this example? Can I use any different interface? I mean I can create new interface with single method i.e. interface MyInterface{ void doThis(); } then change look of myMethod: void myMethod(MyInterface myObject){ myObject.doThis(); } And of course client too: public static void main(String args[]) { try { myMethod(new MyInterface (){ public void doThis() { //do something...; }}); } catch (Throwable t) { } } Or maybe something is about Runnable?!
